What would be a scary message to find written on a fogged up mirror after you get out of the shower?
It has to be something that would let someone know that there was something ghosty lurking in their house, but I think "hello" or "I'm watching you" is too obvious. I need something more sinister >:D
How about instead of a message, there's a imprint of a face on it, the ghosts face that is. Or just a handprint or whatever :P I don't see any reasons for ghosts to write anything (how could they, they're ghosts) unless your ghosts are able to do physical things (like writing on a mirror) :P
Haha. Oh dear, that would actually be quite scary to see on a mirror.
In most cases I would tend to agree with you. Why would they need (or want) to write messages? But this isn't actually a ghost, more of a supernatural entity with ghost-like qualities, and he is definitely able to interact with the physical world.
Hehe, I see! And indeed, I'd pee myself (right after a shower, what a waste) if I came out and saw a face- or palmprint on the mirror!
How old is your ghost? Maybe you could spice it up with a Latin or old English phrase? Or any kinda language that fit with your ghostly entity :P Maybe a line from a known ghost poem (Edgar A. Poe comes to mind) that will make sense for the ghost to write?
I agree that "hello" and "I'm watching you" are boring :P
I'd totally go for the hand print idea if I wasn't already using that for my other MC's spooky encounter. Don't want to be too repetitive, you know? xD
Technically, it/he's only a few years old. The tricky bit is that it/he's something like a thought form, created from a story that someone came up with on the internet, but it/he works as though he is several hundred years old as per the legend of its/his origin. The Latin idea might actually work, I'll definitely be looking into that :)

"Nice ass" is where my mind went first... now I think if the person lived alone and was single the idea of "I love you" being written on the mirror would be rather weird also... I think I'm caught on that because I've been writing so many misguided versions of "love" or other obsessions recently.
I like the hand print idea! We did something sort of similar in a horror movie I did once. Only it was that a guy thought he heard something, turned around, nothing there. Then he looked down and inches away from him was a muddy footprint. Only it was pretty obviously not a human foot, it was clawed and elongated and just looked plain evil.
Unless your character has a very long mirror, you'd better go with a short and sweet calling card. Depending on what the entity's mentality is, it could be a simple warning, or an affectionate comment on her. As other people have mentioned, mixing Latin in there would work quite well.
Ideas for this would be ...
Warning: "Trying my patience." "X days left."
"Affectionate": "Lovely, aren't you?" / "Aren't you lovely?" "Welcome home."
I thought this was kinda fun and somewhat relevant . . .
About 4 years ago, my daughter, my two sons and I were sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner. It was flat out NASTY outside. Barely above freezing, wind gusting at 40 mph, spitting freezing rain; just creepy, miserable weather. To top it all off, there was a legend in our neighborhood that the house we lived in was the sight of a suicide wherein a teenage girl hanged herself from the big tree in the back yard.
Well, my daughter was watching the freezing rain slamming against the screen of the window and mentioned, "Wow, it's really nasty out there. You don't think that girl has come back have you?"
I looked at the window and squinted, "You know, I hadn't thought about it, but it almost looks like there's writing on the window."
"Oh Dad!" she pushed me playfully.
I pointed at the window again, "No, really. Here looks like an H and that there looks like an E . . ."
Entranced by the letters that were appearing in the window, she studied them closely and whispered, "Heeelllll . . .
Slapping her hands over her mouth, her eyes exploded to size of serving plates and she whipped around, "Oh my God, Dad!" she gasped.
I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Never before or since have I managed to pull off a prank that well!
or you could have the person be home alone there mom is gone or there dad anyways, they take a shower, the mirror is fogged up and when they step out, they see blood on the floor, and on the mirror it says, "mommies home"
* The title of the song he/she was singing while showering.
* Or possibly the message comes on as the mirror unfogs. You know, you step out of the shower, open the door/window or switch on the A/C to defog the mirror, and casually start doing your hair and stuff. And the message just appears as the fog on the mirror goes away.
Scary messages?

"Nice legs"
Sorry, I'm very tired xD

Or how about a simple "boo!" ? ^^.
Re: Scary messages?
"My dear! Never let anyone tell you to be ashamed of your figure!"
That's what the voice of the dead sea captain says in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," after she has climbed into bed for the night. ;)

Re: Scary messages?
Maybe a Latin version of "Death Gazes upon you" or something would work?
Glad I could somewhat help you, at least :P

Re: Scary messages?
My ghost leaves her name written on the wall, or 1933, the year she died.
Re: Scary messages?
I like the idea of something written in Latin, maybe "get out," or "no escape."
Or here's something different. Maybe paw prints, like a wolf or a dog, or cloven hoof prints.
Re: Scary messages?
How about a smiley face? [shudders]
Re: Scary messages?
"Mummy?" or "Are you my Mummy?"
(For the Doctor Who fans out there) ;-)
Re: Scary messages?
DON'T BLINK.
Re: Scary messages?
And don't forget to count the shadows!
Re: Scary messages?
I GOT IT! I GOT IT!
Have your character sing in the shower and then forget the next words. When they get out, the next line of lyrics is written on the mirror! O_O

Something along those lines, maybe?
Re: Scary messages?
Is your character female? If so, maybe she could accidentally cut her leg shaving, and when she gets out the word "blood" is written on the mirror.

Re: Scary messages?
AHAHAHA! *looks around* I mean, erm...
I don't know whether to laugh out loud or give Dad a big schmock upside the head! =)
Re: Scary messages?
"I know"
"Sweet dreams"
"I'm home"
"Don't ever be alone"
"You'll never be alone again"
"It makes my mouth water every time I think about how I want to dice up your little fingers and eat them!"
That's all I got.
Re: Scary messages?
"I'm right behind you"
Creepy, right?
Re: Scary messages?
I got It!
"Lovely Home you have."
"Look under your bed."
and if its like a cabinet mirror, were the medicine is...
"I wouldn't open this if i were you...."
Re: Scary messages?

"mommies home"
or
"daddies home"
Re: Scary messages?
Maybe if there was like a thumping noise down the hall, and on the mirror it says "That wasn't me" or something.
Re: Scary messages?
I would totally freak out if "Nice shower?" was written on the mirror when I got out.
(And I'd probably go kill my sis, since she has an annoying habit of coming into the bathroom and saying that while I'm in the shower....)
Others:
"You're getting warmer."
"(Insert character's name, or someone really close to the character)"
"Welcome to Hell."
"See you soon."
