I'm writing a new novel, titled *Meow* about a girl who gets turned into a were-animal. I want there to be multiple were-animals, not just werewolves or were-cats. Like, the main character is going to be a were-fox.
I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for other were-animals, or if anyone thinks I should even create other were-animals then my current ideas? My ideas: Werewolf(Gotta have a few, right?) Were-cat (Includes big cats, like lions, tigers, lynx, bobcats, pumas, etc) Were-fox Were-bear Were-raptors(Doesn't everyone wish they could fly?)
Check out a game called Werewolf: The Apocalypse by Whitewolf. They have a big stack of were-critters. Off the top of my head I remember:
were-bears were-foxes (they were ornery) were-cats (which had different characteristics based on the type of big cat) were-seals (the legendary selkie) were-rats variances on the werewolf based on different K9 species (aka jackals, hyenas, etc.) There was some kind of were-fish too, like a wereoctopus or something . . .
Oh, don't forget going in the other direction too. Animals that turn into people. Dungeons and Dragons called them wolfwere's. My next project will involve wolf-like monsters that can turn into people that hunt down werewolves.
Oops, totally didn't mean to post that other one ....
(Lets try this again, why don't we)
I've been really tempted to go all-animal on this, but I couldn't really think of anything fun to do with the 'nicer' animals, like otters, horses, rodents(minus rats),songbirds, etc. I don't see much use of a monkey during a war, although those might be added in for comedic relief.
As for a platypus, I can totally think of some fun things to do with those(they do have a poisonous spike, which could be useful to me)
And that comment about 'wolfweres'(although badly in need of a more creative title in my opinion) can definitely be used. I think you just gave me my antagonist. (They might have some of the lesser animals, since ym idea is that they are animals tainted with the werewolf blood and its made them go insane. Its much more fun to see an insane 'were-horse' then a sane one!)
Yeah, I've decided to name them "Morphs." Simple, but much less weak-sounding. Or The Mindless. That one might work too, since I've decided they will all be insane.
Were-creatures?

Re: Were-creatures?
Were-alligators (forgot about the crocodillian were-critters)
were-bats
were-platypus (do it . . . I dare you)
Re: Were-creatures?
It might be worth looking into shape shifter myths for ideas. Therianthropy and Shape Shifting Category on Wikipedia are good places to start.
Wererat, Werebear and Werecat are common. Large carnivores seem to be popular.
I'd like to see some werehorses or weredeer

Re: Were-creatures?
Yeah, wolfwere does seem pretty weak. In my project I call them Vargr, named after the Norse word for Warg; the name used for Fenrir and others.
. . . of course Overkill would never let someone ride him . . .
Anywho, one that just popped into my head was a wereboar. Pig snout with big tusks. Creepy looking in my opinion.
