I have been working on this novel for a couple of years, though it has sort of become stagnant, as I had put it aside last November to work on another novel idea for my first NaNo. Now, i'm tempted to bring it back out and restart it, maybe even re-writing it for NaNo 2012. However, my main issue for stopping is that I've created an antagonist that might be too strong. My story centres around a freshmen psychic who is just opening up about her skills. She meets the local Ghost Hunting group and accidentally releases an evil Native American Trickster god from it's prison. So I'm trying to figure out how to defeat this spirit. It's a shapeshifter who feeds on chaos and human blood. As it has been awaken after centuries of imprisonment it is confused and angry that his land now holds a university on it, basically he wants revenge but he needs to replenish himself in order to extract it. My psychic becomes the focus of it's attention as she has the most spiritual strength he requires. At first I thought of using her as bait, brining the spirit back to it's imprisonment grounds where they would attempt to use the same spell/chant to imprison it as it had been down in the past. Maybe even using the psychic's gift to open a doorway to the other realm where the evil spirit get's pulled in. Does that sound reasonable? Does anyone have any other ways or suggestions on how my group could end the Spirit's murderous rampage? Christianity has exorcisms, Buddhism has fire pujas, there are all kinds of practices for getting rid of unwanted spirits. I do have one catholic ghost hunter, a i have an occult ghost hunter and i even have a Native American Shaman-in training in the group as well. (i wanted to make it as diverse as I can.) I thought Native American tricksters tended to be more, well, tricksters than evil. Blue And Orange Morality at worst. I didn't think they had evil ones. I'm not an expert at all, though a quick Wiki search suggests that tricksters tended to be heroes as much as villains. I'm thinking it doesn't have to be a trickster, but just an evil spirit in general. Angry and vengeful enough to try get ride of all the people on it's land.
