would you like to die in my zombie apocalypse?

IMPORTANT READ THIS BEFORE POSTING IN HERE

So, here is the deal - In my zombie apocalypse the Government has shut down all communications going into and out of a quarantine zone that consists of a large part of Southern California. The details that they are releasing are not exactly that informative, or truthful, and the people in the quarantine zone have no way to contact loved ones and let them know what's going on, or even if they are alive.

Enter my main character Isaac, who has discovered some unsettling truths about the epidemic and is trying to recount his story before giving in to the disease. He is basically leaving behind a chronicle about the real events addressed to whoever manages to find it.

At the end of the narrative he includes a list he has been compiling of people who have died along the way, so that at the very least their families can have some sort of closure. He includes what few facts he knows about them - name, age, how they died (if he knows, some of these will be bodies he comes across)

This stems from a story I heard once about a soldier in WWII (I think) who was a POW and kept a list of all the POWs that died so that their families could know for sure. He kept this list rolled up in a toothpaste tube, which my MC won't do but I thought it was cool.

Anyway, I thought this would be a cool way to include my friends in my book when/if it gets published and let them have some fun with it. I only have twenty some odd names though, and I figure after all my MC has been through I need at least 80 to make it believable, and since the writers on this forum have been so helpful to me I figured I'd open it up to the NaNoWriMo crowd. Of course by replying you are giving me consent to use your name without financial compensation... but you will have your name in a book that may or may not be published lol

So, if you want just leave your name, age (optional) and how you went down (also optional). You should read my synopsis to get a feel for my apocalypse since it is a little different, but here are a few things you will need to know about this world.

The zombies aren't zombies. The disease actually derives from a cure to a devastating virus. The treatment gives the body the ability to revert cells and reformat them to fight the disease naturally. This allows it to destroy the virus but begins working better than anticipated. Those who got the treatment become completely self healing to the point of regenerating tissue or even bone almost instantly. Their physical abilities increase as well. This is a bad summary of it but basically they also start going nuts, and no one knows why. So now they are faster, stronger, and self healing, and become bent on violence.

Most can't talk or reason, but some retain abilities that have been ingrained into their instincts e.g some soldiers can still use weapons or fight somewhat strategically. The zombies become known as the Haunted because of part of the turning process where they begin to suffer from pervasive nightmares and hallucinations about their regrets or fears. This process of them going mad becomes known as the Call. The process basically goes nightmares- physical abilities and healing- hallucinations-self mutilation to no avail- crazy go nuts. A very small percentage retain the ability to talk and even reason, although it is a mad reasoning, and they become known as talkers. The Haunted still have the same main weakness of zombies though, kill the brain and you stop the healing ability, so headshots are still lethal.

This takes place in So Cal.

When L.A goes all to crap supplies become the new currency and anywhere with plentiful supplies (Wal-Mart, Costco, ect.) becomes controlled. The inner city is mostly controlled by the same gangs it was before. The outskirts are more diverse with crazy survivalists ex military types, and rednecks being the most prevalent. The freeways out of the city are controlled by biker gangs who charge for a safe escort out. The fees for supplies or escort are more supplies, basically if you need guns you pay with food, if you need food you pay with guns, and if you need both you are screwed.

Other groups you may encounter are the researchers who set up facilities to distribute the cure for the original virus. When the Haunted show up they retreat into their facilities with military protection and shoot anyone who approaches whether they are Haunted or not. There is also a group of Christians my M.C meets who are headed by the twin brother of one of the biker gangs leaders. This groups makes trips into the city to gather supplies and distributes them to the different churches in the area where survivors Christian and non Christian alike are holed up. They also collect those who can't afford to pay the bikers and pay for them. That person then pays off their debt by helping the group distribute their supplies and then they can either leave or join the group. These are the main groups that my MC encounters but of course there would be a very wide range of different groups that form, so feel free to have fun with it.

The Haunted are ultra aggressive (think Reavers) but are not driven by hunger, just violence, so basically no brain eating.

And finally posting in here in no way guarantees you will make the list, and I reserve the power to make alterations to your death as I see fit, and again I will not be paying you for this, or promising any free books or any kind of compensation... because I am poor lol

Died trying to get his family (wife and 2 boys) out of the city. Looters (biker gang, whoever you feel will work) killed him while he tried to keep them away from his family. He didn't know if his family made it out or not as he was finally shot after being beaten.

Awesome! Thanks for kicking this off. I like the death, both brutal and noble. I think my MC will mention that he came across your body and amazingly you were still alive, and your dying words were "Did they make it? My family, did they...." Dead.lol I can't do it with every one but I guess if a few had dying words too, that would be alright. I like this, it is like writing an incredibly short story. A micro story consisting of only the death scene!

I will have planned to lock myself up and sit it all out. Unfortunately, knowing myself, I will forget to lock the back door, and when I settle down with a nice book I will get so consumed by the story that I won't notice the raging non-zombie horde until it is too late. Well, screw my inability to pay attention. But at least I will die with one of my favourite books in my hands...

You will be found still clutching your book then. What would you like the title to be? Feel free to make it one of yours, I don't mind giving a fellow writer some free pub... assuming anyone reads my story lol. Guess I should go write that last chapter I have been avoiding lol Does anyone else find the last 3000 or so words take seemingly as much effort as all the words that proceeded them?

It probably wouldn't be that interesting, but I imagine I'd be a senseless gang shooting. It'd probably be something random like they wanted my shoes or something. Either that, or somehow got caught up in a type of shoot out or raid of some sort, got in the way, and just ended up being a casualty.

Thank you very much, I definitely still need names. With my friends that have lent their names, plus you three, I know have 24 names. Like I said, I would like to get in the neighborhood of eighty, but fifty or sixty would probably be enough if that's all I could get. I honestly expected more of my facebook friends to join in, but I guess they're to busy with farmville or something lol

If it's possible, I think I would die from turning--it would react with one of the many medications in my system (I would laugh if it was the sleeping pill), go wrong, and my cells would just keep multiplying responding to injuries that weren't there. So I would probably look like a big blob of fleshy matter.
If that doesn't work, I'd shoot myself in the head if I had to kill my mom because she turned.
Alternatively, I'd be the idiot trying to rob a Wal-Mart in the chaos and get shot.

I just came up with three ways I could die in a zombie apocalypse without even trying. I think that's a bad sign.

I have been trying to picture the cell multiplying death in my head. I am getting a mixture of two movie death scenes in my head. "Big trouble in Little China" and "Total Recall." I hope other people know what I'm referencing because it is a super hilarious mental picture.

I'll probably get into a gang shoot-out, thinking that I know JUST what to do (because I'm dumb that way) instead of getting the heck out of there. But, really, you can have my killed in any way you like. As an Irish Dancer it might also be a fun idea to have me trampled to death by a St Patrick's Day parade on the stampede.

Death: Hmmm... You can use your imagination, but keep in mind that I'm next to impossible to sneak up on, so as long as I wasn't taken by surprise, I'm cool with whatever. (I'm convinced that if I survive the initial outbreak, which is more dumb luck than anything, I'd be a great lookout) I'm physically very weak, so I can easily be overpowered in a fight.
