For all those of you scrambling to reach 50k/finish your novel/write a sequel/edit like mad in the month of December, this is the place for you! Come one, come all to NaNoCember!

Hanabi and I have been posting over in NaNo Ate My Soul for some time now, but we figured we ought to create a place for all of us to come together and share our NaNo-Cember-ing.

All you have to do is set a goal for yourself - WHATEVER you want that goal to be - and post it here! Then keep on coming back, updating everyone on your progress, and give your encouragement to all the others in the same boat. We will be each others cheerleaders, and strive hold each other (and ourselves!) accountable to our goals.

I'll start us off: My goal is to continue at a pace of at least 1667 words per day until my novel is actually finished.
Bonus goal - actually accomplish a complete (if very rough draft) before the 17th, when my friend (who wants a copy to read on vacation) leaves for Christmas break.

So far, I'm on track and I've finished a chapter a day. Resting at about 62200 words total.

What are everyone else's goals? Whatever they are, it's good to have your company! ^_^

~Phoenix

I'm hoping to write another 50k words in December. So far, I'm still keeping to the writing habits that always seem to work so well for me during NaNo time but ones that are too easy to let go of after. I'm sticking to my guns this year. After completing 3 consecutive NaNos, I'd better have at least one finished ms to show for it before I croak!

I should do this... peeps come to tinychat.com/wrimo to join everyone to talk about plot (:

except i'm sort of having national novel ignoring month... ugh

I'd also like to finish my nano novel. My goal is 80k total, probably will be making it about the same length as my first novel which was 82k. I'd like to have it written and edited by the new year!

PhoenixSempai

A good, solid goal! I'm thinking I'll be somewhere around 85k myself by the time I'm done, but I guess I'll find out!

Keep us updated on your progress ^_^

I'm hoping to get 15k words of world building done this month - a little less than 500 words a day. The main reason for this is that I totally failed at creating a habit of writing every day during NaNo, and really want to keep trying.
So 500 words of world building stuff a day. Its an easy goal, but I figure the key to writing every day is not to burn yourself out. And maybe I'll raise it to 1000 words a day in January...

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

That's a good way to start out if you ask me! My next project is going to involve almost a novella's worth of world-building, I'm thinking (I had about 3/4 of it done prior to losing it all in a computer crash...back up your novel, self!!). But as far as I'm concerned, story or world-building, writing is writing.

I know I finally got myself into a habit during Nano, something I've been trying to do forever...and now I can't make myself stop even when I need the rest ><

I think I'll try for about 1,000 words a day for December... although I might not be able to be too consistent, what with finals and things. My novel is really only two-thirds finished! I'd love to finish by the end of the year.

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

I was going to go for 1000/day too until I realized I'd need a draft done halfway through the month. :/ It's a totally reasonable goal though, IMO. Go for it! You can do it!

PumpkinKing97
50001 words so far Winner!

Exactly what I'm planning, though, in the spirit of Nano, I'm behind on that goal already. At least I don't have to feel guilty if I don't make it each day. So it's a day later, who cares? My goal is to be finished the initial draft by Christmas. Printing that thing out to edit will be the best present ever (seriously, I can't wait to edit this thing....).

Hanabi no Enigma

Starting with my 16106 words and continuing into however long it takes, I think at this rate, even WITH Christmas, I can get to 30k by the end of December. I'd need to write 420 words per day to do that, I think. I averaged 536 in November. Should be a breeze. Slow and steady wins the race (in February). I've drawn up a picture of a stats graph and will be drawing my totals. I'll probably have to use Google Docs's word counter, which will bump my wordcount up a bit. Or lower it. I'm not sure. It did both at various points in November.

Just like with NaNo, if I can do more, I will, but I won't hold myself to it. I had been expecting to reach 20k by January 1, so 30k will be better than I thought, but I got farther along right at the end of NaNo than I thought I would. I will finish this novel, which may be over 50k when done and is probably going to be nonstandard in that I'm looking at resolutions to my epic fantasy that involve epic diplomacy rather than epic battles. Ah, what a hero of a main character I have, probably willing to at least listen to Achti's demands instead of drawing her sword. (Seriously, the situation would probably draw Savail, Athima, Jumarazh, Changvraz, Marinan and Xyrylu into a war. Those countries have a combined population of tens of millions. You're not a hero for responding to a petty insult by causing a World War, you're a hero for deciding you'll sacrifice your own honor in favor of letting millions of innocents NOT DIE.)

I LIKE my 16k. I like this better than the crap I wrote the year I won! :D Guess I'm just a turtle after all.

Good to see ya Hanabi! Sounds like things are progressing nicely for you!

And thanks for the helpful links ^_^ So far I'm doing my progress bar by hand, but we'll see how long that lasts before I go totally nuts.

63997 words and still chugging along tonight. I'm absolutely determined to finish this chapter so I'll feel free to work on my Harvard app tomorrow instead of writing.

These are great, Hanabi!!! Thanks so much for the links. Now, all I need is a webpage or a blog to display them on. :D

My goal: Finish this novel, and edit it at least a couple of times before the Createspace offer runs out (I have no idea when that is, but it'll be some time next year)
I'll probably try and write the usual 1667 words per day until I finish, then try and edit a chapter a day. Then again, I usually write long chapters, so maybe it'll be five pages per day. I don't know. Something like that.
And I'm currently sitting on 54,823 words.

Hails.Q

My goal is to finish a first draft of my novel before the new year. I'm aiming for about 85k so taking into account I gave myself a little break on the first my daily goal is 1,167 I might just take it up to 1.2k.

Good lucky everyone! I wish you all the best!

Since I got through about half of my outline, I'm hoping to do another 50K in Dec, and that could be the first draft done. So I'm aiming to do 1700 - 2000 words a day. Not that I got any done yesterday. I might have to accept that I have to let this cold run its course and then get back to it.

PhoenixSempai

I had to force myself to a couple of 100-500 word days right after Thanksgiving after I hit 50k - trying not to kill my wrist for all of time, here >< I think you are well within your rights to take care of yourself, first. Then you can get back to 2k/day ;)

Sorry to double-post, but I wanted to share that I drew the first day's progress bar. It's ABOVE THE PAR LINE. For the first time since I started this project on November 1.

Funny how awesome that feels.

Rock on, Hanabi! I remember the day after a whole bunch of below-par days that I finally got above the line...it felt awesome, and I never was below it again ^_^ Keep it up!

my goal is a bit more humble, because I want to keep my sanity and not stress like crazy..
I've written 50K on my novel and I'm about halfway through. So my goal will be to finish writing it before the end of March. That ought to be enough time :3 After all, I did write 50.000 words in 20 days and got so stressed out that now I just want to take my time and write whenever I'm inspired ^^'

Any goal is welcome here, and I think pushing forward and writing until you finish (whenever that is) is a perfectly good one! Write away!

annaspargoryan

My goal is to finish the first draft of my book by the end of my summer break (January 23). At this stage I think that will require somewhere around 75,000 words.

Then I'd like to have it edited by the end of March.

the_blue_rose

My goal is to finish my novel. I have about a third left to go and reckon by the end it should be around the 85,000 word mark. My target is to have it finished by Christmas but I am pushing for a December 14th deadline. I want to keep to writing at least 1,667 words a day but more will be better.

I reached 50,000 words Sunday and since then have written about 500 words. So please, please, please kick me in the ass whenever you feel it appropriate.

Once finished I want to put it aside until late January next year. Then sign up for the March edit.

I have three goals for December.

1. Edit and self-publish a collection of ghost stories by the 5th. (If anyone out there desires to be a last minute short story beta reader, please do let me know).

2. Write at least 500 words per day on a novella that is to be finished by the end of the month. I'm 9,000 words in.

3. Do. Not. Touch. The NaNo document until the 9th at the earliest. Begin editing by the 15th at the latest, and have a readable draft by the end of the month.

Good luck, everyone!

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

You're busy O_o

I'd normally be all over the beta offer, but I've got grad aps to finish this week so I'd best keep my focus on those. If you want readers at the end of the month for your novella though, I'd be happy to be of service ^_^

Dani Marchand
120045 words so far Winner!

Thanks! I'll probably have it all cleaned up and maybe even published by then, but late beta readers are good too, since I can release updated ebook versions whenever I want. Good luck with your apps!

I want to finish my novel by the end of the month. Which is hard to figure out in a concrete word count right now, but I am certain that it will be at least 50K, because I am at about the halfway point to that now, and I know my novel isn't half-finished. I would ideally like to hit 80K, just because it's a nice solid number for a novel.

However, I've decided at this point to try an experiment and stop counting my words for the time being. Reason is that I feel like if I don't update every hour, I won't feel like I should slack off or stop for the day once I see a decent word count. I want to keep pounding out the words for as long as I still feel I have it in me at any given session.

I should exert some discipline however, so I will make my goal at least 16 hours of writing per week, and if I can put in the hours, I will give myself a treat at the end of each week in the month. I can write between 800-1000 words per hour usually, 1200 if I really push it, so even if I go slow, I calculate that will give me about 51K of words for the month, on top of the 25K or so I have already, which is almost at the goal of 80K total.

I think I can do this.

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

I switched novels halfway through the month to return to the rewrite of my NaNoWriMo novel from last year (yep, I just broke three of the rules of NaNo at once.) So for that novel, I have about 30K written. My goal is to get to 60K by the end of December. Given that I'm going to have 90% less work to do this month, and it's it should be a lot easier to match that goal. I'm really proud of what I've written so far - it's the first NaNo out of the six that I've done that I'm actually satisfied with, and don't see the need to trash and start completely over - and I want to keep on writing at a slightly slower pace so that I'll have time to not resort to randomness to get me through.

My other goal is to get far enough into this that I'll have a title, which is something I have never, ever had for this project.

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

Titles can be so tricky. I finally got mine in the last week of November while listening to Coldplay on repeat...I'm sure eventually the perfect one will come to you ^_^

This thread is awesome. Last year as soon as I won NaNo, I ditched my novel and never wrote anything for 11 months. Plus I had fantastic non-NaNo plans for this Novemeber, but everything fell through. So I holed up in my room and did NaNo'11. This year too, I've won, but I want to finish the first draft on my novel. I currently have ~56k, and it should be complete at 70k. So I'm gonna go for it this month.

Cheers to all us wordsmiths for a wordy December!

P.S. I know we can do it :)

PhoenixSempai
61162 words so far Winner!

This is exactly what I'm afraid will happen with mine! o_o I'm decently happy with it so far, but even if I wasn't, I'd want to keep going until I finished a draft...I've written a ton of lengthy short stories but I've never finished a novel before, so I'll feel rather accomplished if I can push through til then.

Cheers to you as well! You CAN do it :D

Well, I didn't get very far, but unlike previous "didn't make it" years, I am still interested in the story. So my commitment is to write something ... anything on it, starting today and going through the end of december (daily writing was how I managed to win the NaNo's that I did.).

My goal is to finish the first draft of my novel (I'm about 2/3 done) by New Year's Day. I took a break from writing yesterday (12/1), and it felt very odd. I'd like to keep writing daily, even if it isn't 1700 words/day.

My next goal will be to edit in February, and we'll see from there. I need to get my NaNo novel out of my brain before I can thing about any other writing goals.
