60day/60k -- A Jan+Feb writing challenge!

So, I had this idea --- I realized this coming year will be a leap year and the thought occurred to me, January has 31 days and February will have 29. Exactly 60 days! I'm one of those people who really like nice, round numbers and doing 1k a day seems much easier than 1,667, so why not make it a 'thing'? I'm not one of those people who do well under huge pressure and I was overwhelmed by late-November and called it quits. So I know a bunch of you are already going to do JanNoWriMo, but I hope those of you who write slower like me and are hesitant to undertake another big project would be interested in 60day/60k? One novel or several short stories or two novellas -- whatever you like -- spread over not one but TWO months! I have one person interested, does anyone else want to join? =D

Hm, it does sound interesting! I've been busy and distracted with other things, but I have this novel brewing in my head that I'd like to write and hopefully redeem my failure at NaNo. I might attempt it if I feel particularly inspired. :)

My NaNo book generated so many new ideas while I was writing it that at least one of them needs to be its own story. If that's acceptable, count me in :)

I'd definitely consider doing it! I mean, I already am considering doing JanNoWriMo, but hey, i can do both right? Actually, it's really just a matter of how life's going in January and how much time I have to write haha. But this sounds like a great idea. I have to agree that I like even goals. I basically aimed for 2k a day for NaNo because the 1667 bothered me haha

I'm joining! I have absolutely no motivation to write after NaNoWriMo so I need this kind of push xD Though.. I'll just stretch out my novel to be a 110K novel instead of 100K as planned. Should be do-able, if I throw in a few random scenes ^^

That's exactly what I'm doing :) I didn't realise how much plot my story actually had, so am only halfway thru my novel. Can't wait to get back to my characters - but I think the break we're getting in December is good because I can make sure I finish actually planning out the end of my novel ^_^

This is great, now I can't wait for January to come! Okay so, I just had another idea. =D To help with creativity and busting writing blocks, what if every 10 days or so, a writing challenge is issued to add into your story? Nothing like those 'suddenly, ninjas!' suggestions, but more like --- 'incorporate a prop into a conflict' or 'introduce a sticky situation for your MC and have them get out of it with only their words' --- things that are vague enough that they could be added to any genre story. What do you guys think? Dumb idea? =P

Omg my family is going to MURDER me. I already plan to do script frenzy and BOTH Camp NaNoWriMo's BUT this would be an awesome chance for me to write part two of my novel (kind of sort of accepted that it would be better if my cliffhanger ending was not the ending of the book. But I don't care it is still FINISHED). I could write part two and if I do well MAYBE even work on a book two since I don't know if I would need both months to finish.

I like this. We could have a poll to pick them or everyone can add ideas to a thread and someone can write them on papers and pull them out of a hat. Or someone can randomly pick. But I do like the concept, I am terrible at dares but it turns out fun when I remember to put them in.

I did the same thing.. Hell, I didn't even know what my novel should be about when I started writing on day 10.. And here I am - still missing half of my plot. xD And without the motivation to actually sit down and write for hours... I should be punished for this! I hope it'll all work out for you Bri! And I was planning on doing the June Camp NaNo, but I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to wrangle it due to study being crazy xD That's why I thought I'd definitely do 60 day/60k because I'm not super busy in Jan/Feb :) But heheee, I completely feel your family pain - I haven't told mine about this one yet!! I think I might try to do it secretly, otherwise I will cop so much heat xD

It's actually not the plot itself that is missing xD I've got that figured out and I think it is the best of plots! - It is me writing down the plot and finish(I'm only halfway through the plot) that is missing in the picture xD DRAGONS ROCK! I probably have to change the title though, since stupid americans decided to ruin it by making a movie called 'the girl with the dragontattoo'... Stupid americans.. xD

I will definitely take part! As you can see, I actually joined after November was over, and have been so sad that I never new about NaNo before this! I'm bummed that I missed the official competition, but am ready to try! I have a few (unrefined) ideas for a story, and it would be great to have some encouragement - not to mention a deadline to kick me in the butt! ;) I also really love the idea of some scattered challenges throughout the 60 days; that will definitely keep my creativity metre high! I'm really looking forward to this now!!! :)

Why couldn't the dear americans have titled the movie and book otherwise? The books original title translated from swedish to english is 'Men who hate women', not 'the girl with the dragontattoo'. xD

I think this will be a little easier for you to handle (it's my first year, and I had SO many screw ups) than the 50k words in 30 days. The only real challenge is that this is going to required a full 10k words more.

Yes, I definitely think this will be a good way to get used to writing so much, because I really want to try camp in June! And this will also be a good way to get 10k more words in, like you said, but at a slightly easier pace. Now all I need is a way to keep my characters busy enough for two months of adventure! I gotta get to work ;)

This is so cool, by my last count, there are over 25 people wanting to participate -- definitely more than enough! =D I think we should start gathering challenge prompts! Though I am unsure on the best way of compiling them.. If people just started posting them here, the thread will quickly get muddled up with cross conversations and I doubt I am allowed to make a separate thread on the same subject.. People could just PM me their suggestions to keep things nice and tidy, I guess? Oh, and also, that way it will preserve the surprise of the challenges to everyone. Well, except for me. =P But I can live with that. So for prompts, I feel like the only rule would be to make sure they are not genre-specific and could be applied to any story. Otherwise, go crazy! =3

I guess if you don't want to make several threads, you could just make a small forum of your own with InvisionFree or something of that sort? I mean, InvisionFree forums are completely customizable, but you don't need to customize it to be able to use one. You could just make one of those and make as many sections and topics as you'd like. With a small group such as us, it'd be a nice little forum where we'd be able to talk and communicate. Just an idea. :)

I love this idea. I'm going to use it to rewrite my NaNo novel, which I wrote at such a fast pace without any planning, that it really does need a major overhaul. And I definitely couldn't bring myself to work on it all December, but January = new beginnings. Here's to beginning the year right.

I'd love this! Very manageable since I'll /finally/ have a job but that will be alongside my schooling (uni is decidedly boring in, at least it was for the 1st term so far D: ) Plus, I find I have no ideas lately, I developed a raging, horrible hate for both my works half way through November, and I just spend my time glaring at them and all my other ideas as well. I think I need something outside of the fantasy genre.

Oh, I am definitely doing this. It's a lot better than what I originally had in mind, which was 25,000 words during the month of January. xD This provides more time and more words. I already can't wait! :3

I feel that we should keep posting in this thread -- the ideal solution would be opening a new thread or having our own mini-forum but seeing as this is an unofficial Nano, I'm not sure if that is possible or even proper protocol. And these forums are where the most people come together. I fear we may lose that if we moved away from here.

I'd like to join in if I may. Angryman told me about this - but I wasn't going to join as I have a novel written already with 69K, but although it only needs a few things added to it, or adjusted - I feel it's got no hook, nothing all that different about it... compared to book 2 which is just 35,162 words - so about a third to half way through. And I think that book 2 is better written as well, so therefore (if finished) would have more 'publishability' and as that's what I'm aiming for... But I've only just joined here, so I don't know how this place works - for instance I've posted a few things here and there but got only got one reply, (and it was pure fluke I found that) but no notification of that reply - and most of the things I posted to - I've forgotten where they were... So I've no idea how to keep in contact other than staying online forever and keeping the tab open. The other things I'd like to know are: What are 'challenge prompts'? Do I need to upload to the "create your novel" page? Fran

Yeah, I hate that there's nothing letting you know that you've got a reply in the forums too. As for challenge prompts, they're pretty much random dares. If, for example, someone says, "Add a stop sign to a scene," then you have to figure out how you are going to work the stop sign into the scene. How you go about it is up to you: you could be describing the scene in a city, or you could have a character hallucinate street signs in the middle of a desert.

One great thing about these forums, is that you can always find your posts. If you hover over the Forums button at the top, the option to view My Forum Comments shows up and you can click on it. To see if someone responded, go the the right side where it says Re: (title of thread) in red. That'll take you to any responses and also give you the link to go back to that forum and see if anyone else has posted in it. I always forget where I've posted on forums, so this ability is wonderful to me :)

I'm very interested in this! Will all updates be delivered here, or how will we interact with one another for chatting? :) I, in my infinite hilariousness, happened to join this site just tonight, rather than before November. Therein, I'm a newbie. Haha. :D I have an idea in my head, and so It'll at least give me somewhere to start playing around with it. My writings are deviated from my wistful sort of thought-processing, with plenty of alliterations thrown in (often unintentional). I shall write about a short-ways into the future, in which the world has become alarmingly liberal, for better or worse. However, I don't intend for it to become too politically-focused (at least not with my current education of politics!), and instead I believe it will be more about the lives of two men and the various ways the world affects them. I need to flesh it out my thoughts a bit more...

I love nice, even numbers too. I think I'm going to do use the challenge to finish my Nano novel though. With the holidays, I wasn't able to do any additional work on it, and it's nowhere near done, and I'd like to have it ready to submit for publishing by the time the 2012 Nano rolls around.

Yup! Any story idea you want to work on is OK! You can continue a previous novel, start a new one, do short stories, whatever! =D Oh, and the challenges are just an extra thing I thought up, to help with creativity and motivation! Basically, I'm trying to collect ideas from everyone for story prompts and I'll randomly draw one every 10 days. The idea is to somehow incorporate whatever the prompt is into your story. So, say the prompt was "an animal knocks over a vase" -- you have to try to add it to the story. Whether you want it to just happen in the background or make it something important to the plot, that's up to you!

I'd like to join in here, sort of last minute :'D My NaNo novel, while 50k words long, probably needs 50k more to be finished, so I think I'll use this challenge to wrap it up, and then write a couple short stories with the characters or something that would help me keep developing them (cause right now they are all kind of hazy and inconsistent, haha). Ah, I'm excited. I really want my novel done, and this sounds like the perfect thing :3 Glad to have others doing it as well; I think the group effort that comes with NaNoWriMo is what helped me the most in getting through the month. A dead line also helped, haha. This is a good, manageable goal to start the new year. Good luck everybody!

Sounds amazing, I'm definitely doing it! I already have an idea, now I'll just have to wait for January to start. I was a bit disappointed that I only had 41,000 at the end of nano (I procrastinated and had 16,000 words to write on the last day. I only got 8,000, but it was pretty epic.) and finished the novel with 50,181 on Christmas day. I want to see if I can actually make a novel as long as 60k, because I'm not very good at writing things that long.

My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts for doing a whole gigantic world with all the neccesary details for climates when the spot I'm using is a tiny piece of the whole, but WHATEVER IT TAKES to make it make sense to me (besides, I only *really* need to do a world map once at least until I find a story that sticks, as whatever general setting I want to put it in I have ULTIMATE ACREAGE to choose from). I just wrote 592 words - it's a sort of outline of a new scene, or possibly an old scene as it's a flashback to what started the whole trouble. Now I just have to figure out a) how to write it, (like whose pov) and b) IF I should write it. After all if it goes at the front of the book, it gives everything away... I agree with Prosaurus. I'm having a hard time even remembering all my characters! (That's probably made worse by the fact that I was having a hard time keeping everything straight even in November, when it was fresh.) Only wrote a couple hundred tonight, but I'll write more tomorrow. It was good though - I rediscovered my characters' powers. xD

It was good though - I rediscovered my characters' powers. xD [/quote] Yes, I also have a hard time remembering who said what about other people, but as I took the holidays to input all my current novels into WriteItNow4 and yWriter5 - I'm finding this helps enormously in finding particular passages with this sort of information in it, I can now look up scenes within a chapter - and the chapter page shows a short description of each scene, making the right ones easy to find. This has worked so well in fact that my word count just went up by: WORD COUNT: 1,292 (but no Mexican stand off - I hope that's okay? It just didn't fit in my book, and anyway I only just saw this challenge thingie - AFTER writing the 1 thou words.) What's really thrilling me is that this new stuff is nothing to do with that 592 word scene outline I did earlier - this is completely, and totally, new stuff!!!!! Yippee! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wonder if I can write any more?

That's fine! The challenges were only for those who were interested anyway, you can pick and choose which ones you want to do when I announce them. But as a note, remember each prompt is for a 10 day period so technically you can put it in anywhere between 1 word and _10,000_ words!

Okay, I'm somewhat procrastinating. It's not one purpose; I finally finished cleaning up one of my stories (well, for the most part), and gave my flash-drive to my mother so she can read it. I should have it back by tomorrow though. I fear that my story, despite being 61,000 plus words, is rather a quick read. No, it's not the story I'm working on for the 60 day/ 60k challenge. Now for the good news: the story that I AM working on for this has not just a sequel, but a possible appearance in another story that my sister is working on (don't ask for details though. WAY TOO MUCH INFO NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND IT).

Well, at least you seem to have everything figured out. :] I'm not going to heavily plan this out, and just let the die fall where it may. I think that's much of the fun of this challenge for me, only being set under my own writing restrictions. I don't have to worry about pleasing others. :] Once I have time and am comfortable (I find writing at my desktop to by wholly terrible for my focus), I can generally pump out 1-2k fairly easily. 60k, here I come!

But what's so much better is I've had this lovely idea - well not so much an idea as a realisation. Like: THAT'S why the killer did that! I had the same problem at first. When it asks for your target, type 60000 without commas. For some reason, it will reduce 60,000 to 60, but will accept 60000 without reducing it. To get the ticker to show up in your post, be sure to copy and paste the HTML code (not the other kinds they display). Hope this helps you!

Mine too! I missed this novel dearly, too. I'm so glad I'm doing this!! And so are my MC's. I'm taking a different approach to it as well. Usually I would write it in third person or first person from my FMC. Now I'm doing it first person still, but from the eyes of her little sister. I may be switching to third person, but I like doing it from Star's POV. And I'm almost caught up with today's quota and will be going above!!

Phew! Got the 1st murder scene written. Goodness knows if I'll be able to figure out where to put it, as the story actually starts 16 years after it happened. WOOT. I am SO IN! To be honest, I started my story quite earlier back last year but I never could get the inspiration to write further. For that matter, it's been a story I've envisioned for a long time now (a few years in fact). And no, this is not my last year's NaNoWiMo. I was a bit shy of writing 1000 words today, but I did manage to end up with over 2k words so far. I know I still have a bit more catching up, but at least I'm starting earlier this time around. That and I have more words written down on this tale than my previous work. Good thing I discovered this by just browsing about. :P

Have you tried writing an Evil Speech of Evil? It is a short speech wherein the villain explains the rationalization behind their evil doings. If you've ever seen Leverage or played the first Assassin's Creed game, then you've heard at least one. Again, it's not a monologue... Okay, I guess technically it is. But it's what the villain tells himself (or herself) to explain why they do what they do, not explaining it to another.

Okay, I've decided to leave reading the book - I can't read it, it's upsetting me, but I've read enough to be able to talk about it, so that's good enough. I then went back to my writing, and managed 1,086 - most of which I'll probably have to scrap in editing, as it's mostly a description of how to clean out a student room - from the viewpoint of the student's killer - and NOT EXCITING ENOUGH! It's also based on Newport Uni, not Essex Uni - since I went to Newport, not Essex, despite living in Essex most of my life to date - well, grew up there. Anybody here ever resident at The University of Essex? I'd like to check how that compares with Newport - when clearing out your room before leaving. I mean the killer getting it wrong is one thing, but the author too??? No way!

I have the viewpoints of two characters running at the moment. In one of them, I struggle to reach 1,000 words in a day. In the other, I reckon I could easily do 2,000. So that's not fun.

How is everyone doing so far? Haha, I have been radio silent for the last few days -- busy with work and busy trying to write! I am a few thou behind schedule but it's my weekend now so I figure I can catch up now. =D Has anyone else tried working in the 1st Challenge Prompt? (Reminding you again, yes it's optional, not mandatory) It's on HERE, if anyone missed it! Basically, the prompt was to add a "mexican stand-off" -- figurative or literal -- into the plot. Luckily, it worked out quite well for me! I was struggling(already!) to make something happen and that prompt sent me on an interesting direction to write, which led to a very nice cliffhanger end to my prologue! I'm off to a slow start on this project, but a funny thing happened this weekend. Suddenly, I got inspired about a different project that has been stalled for weeks. I actually wrote two new scenes! With any luck, the inspiration will be contagious. I just added a scene to this project and I have an idea for at least two more scenes. Hmm... I've hit a minor snag in my story. Since the devil's in the details, I'd like to be specific about what sort of firearms my character's are using. Now since my MMC is going to have his shotgun destroyed anyways, I can probably skip that one. But since this story is about his older sister, a SWAT sniper, I'd like to be a bit more specific than .50 caliber sniper rifle or suppressed pistol. I can talk to my dad (or my uncle if I have to) and see what he suggests, but I won't get a chance to ask him until tonight, when I will most likely forget to ask. Insert expletive here. You made me think about what I did for a story. I start the prologue with a character dying. By page 3 or 4, he was officially dead, but just that first line of "Shahryar was dying" was pretty awesome. Now, Shahryar had to bite the big one so that there would be a story, but since I keep hearing about how great of a king he was, I think he's going to have his own short story once I get to the book of short stories.

Hurg. I realized I had not done enough research for what I wanted to do, so rather than start writing I've been surrounded by a bunch of online papers and ebooks. I did make a fabulous map back in December. Does that count? If all my setting stuff counts that'll make a couple thousand words. I'm also trying something different by plotting ahead from start to finish (doing some minor plotting-ahead in nano saved me from nasty blocks). But! I still feel inspired by all of you. Keep at it! To borrow an expression from the Koreans: wrimos FIGHTING! (can we do this again next year by extending it to march 1st? >>)

Hrmm, well that's an iffy question, but to be fair to everyone, I feel the word count should be towards stuff written in Jan/Feb. But I would also definitely count any worldbuilding notes, plot outlines, etc, that have been (newly) written too!

Ten days in, and I have about 1,500 words. Oh yeah, and did I mention I'm considering starting over? Oh well, I'm not giving up ^^ Last November I wrote 20k in three days, so I know I can just do a ultra-catch-up towards the end up of February. And I've still got 50 more days to go! Hey, if I wrote 20k every three days for 50 days, I would have 333,000 words! :D

I decided I'm going to do a rewrite. I'm going through, salvaging the good parts (the parts that were written at the beginning, before I listened and just wrote things down for the sake of getting it down - it's just not for me. It is completely blocking my creativity now). I did learn a lot about my characters during Nano, so at least that helped, and I'm going to stick to my outline, but the prose needs to be rewritten almost completely over. I am finding my interest returning!

Ugh. I got to stop working on my stories so late at night. But my word count is up. By 200 words... Word Count: 1610 I'll get this finished at some point. On a completely different note (E flat), how have people worked the Mexican standoff into their stories? I did it by having one character tell her brother that, due to his poor aim, he would not survive a Mexican standoff.

I've been writing my story by hand and it is definitely helping. I won't know what my current word count is until I type it out on my computer. It's a fairy tale, I think. My unmarried, pregnant FMC has run away with a stolen pocket watch. She fled into the forest to avoid the main road on her way to the big city. Right now, I'm writing about her adventures in the forest. Soon she will stumble upon an old woman's cottage. After that, I'll type it up and update my word count.

Don't worry: the Feb+Mar challenge IS 60 days: 29 days in Feb + 31 days in March = 60 days. The Jan+Feb writers get the long month first. The Feb+Mar writers get the long month last which might turn out to be an advantage. :)

I'm in. I guess I have been since 1/1, just in an independent sort of way. I reached 50k on November 21, but didn't validate or consider myself a 'winner' because my 'novel' was mostly story bible, despite all my planning. I set it aside until January 1, when I commenced with the fleshing out. Now, I have 16k-plus words, and this Jan-Feb thing is sounding pretty cool. Can I play? Word Count: 16,357

didn't do any writing yesterday! (again...) also I've been feeling less than confident about all things written. 'no publisher will ever want my work, my writing is garbage, it's nothing but horrible cliched drek, life has no meaning, blah blah blah' then my husband reminded me of some chocolates I'd bought for nanowrimo and had totally forgotten about which was sorta like being a Bond villain and finding out that your henchmen have already put him in an elaborate death trap while you had no idea the british government was on to you.

Nobody's making it illegal for you to start over if you want to, but don't give up on the old one just because you've run out of faith in it. There's a famous quote out there that says, "The first draft of anything is shit." Yes, what you're writing now sucks. Same with me. And everyone else here. Embrace it. Embrace the suck. Whether you keep going or start over, you need to develop the toughness to write shit every single day just like you brush your teeth, and feel proud of it. Then someday, it'll be time for rewriting and revising, which some people say is even harder.

Oh, I'm behind also, but I'm writing. I'm managing about 600 words a day. Oh, I have reasons. Can't only write a few hours at night when the generator is on. Diesel is expensive so we shut it off at 10 or 11 and before I start writing I have to do a few chores, like cooking, washing clothes or turning on the dishwasher. Then I have to count the time I spend eating and bathing. Forgot to mention that we turn the generator on at 4:30 pm. My son says to go the all fashion way: pen & paper. And I do. Sometimes I write a little during the day with a pen and type at night. Other times I spend time going through these threads which have helped to motivate me to write. Although I'm not spending time on my novel, I'm writing poetry and essays, genres I love writing. So...thank you folks for being there!

I'm... not behind, shockingly. I've had a major burst of inspiration over the last few days, and I've gotten a lot of writing done. More then that, I think I just finished the book. It's only the first in a series - probably a duology - but it's the first book I've ever finished, and I think I'm in shock. Has anyone else gotten that feeling, where you get to a certain point in the story and something just tells you that this is where the book has to end? And has anyone else felt completely in shock after actually ending it?

Congratulations on finishing your book, that's an amazing achievement!! I haven't finished mine yet, but I do have that sense that I know where it is going to end and I can imagine the finished product for the first time so I am really excited by that. Well done! :)

I've finally got my laptop plugged in at my grandmother's house and charging, but I won't be able to write much tonight, I'm afraid. Well, I've had plenty of time to work on my reading and an idea for my story's sequel.

Well, I've got power at my house again (WOOHOO!!!), so I can start writing again. The ONLY good thing about not having power is that I got a chance to catch up on my reading and work on ideas for the sequel to the story I'm writing now.

Hmm... I think I'm about to lose words on my word count. I kind of put something in my story to make things a little too predictable, so I'm going to need to backtrack a little so I can edit it. I know I shouldn't be doing any editing so early on, but I think that it's going to help make the story better in the long run.

Wait, what? It's February already? ...Oh. It's February. D'oh. So I got about 13k written in January, which is far below my usual level. This is mostly because I've been neglecting my writing, rather than because I'm a slow writer, though there's that too. It wouldn't be a big problem normally, but since I'm doing Milwordy, it's a huge problem. I've got to write over 100k this month to catch up. Awesome. Sauce. X-) I could just keep writing at my regular NaNo pace and see how much I get at the end of the year (which was my original intention), but I secretly hope I'll reach a million and finish at least one novel too. :-) Why is it that it's so much easier to waste words on forum posts about writing than on actual productive writing itself?

How's everyone doing? I seem to have hit a hot spot for idea flow... If you're feeling blocked, skip to another point in your story, then work backwards. Sounds weird, but it CAN aid the inspiration.

I've come to a really intense part of my story and I've slowed down to only a couple hundred words of prose a day (since I spend so much time journaling about it and getting in-the-zone before I'm actually ready to write it) but I'm still forging ahead bit by bit. I'm not counting my journaling words toward my wordcount goal. I would be in better shape if I did, because I have a ton of it, but if I did count those, I'd never write any actual story. I'd wind up with a pile of journals and no novel. On the other hand, I'm pretty happy with the 200-odd words of story I manage to end up with after a couple hours of labor every evening.

Okay, everyone, I decided I'm going to call it quits on the writing challenge. I'm not saying I'm done writing, far from it. However, I realize that my writing style goes from long stretches of writing followed by long stretches of, uh, not writing (in this case, that would be reading). I will check in, though, and see how everyone else is doing, and give encouragement and suggestions as needed. And I will definitely keep my eye out for the challenge prompts (they are too tasty to resist).

I've not posted my progress for such a long time, & I feel like I'm so-oooo far behind, but looking at the ticker thingie and working out the difference between that and what I have now, and I've written an extra 11,126, so that now I'm up to (in total) 45,126 So, take the 34,162 I started this challenge with away from that and it's 10,964 words so far in this challenge.

Sadly, I did something similar in one of my stories already. ;) It started out as a conversation between two characters discussing pirates versus ninjas, which turned into a discussion about how tough an oni demon is, which turned into a discussion about beer (don't ask). It was at the beer point that two other characters walked in, afraid to ask what exactly they were talking about.

I did it! Well, it's not exactly a "confusing" conversation, but it's kinda like that.... One of my characters, a couple chapters ago, said something pretty downright awful to another character, and now she's trying to apologize, but she's not very good at apologizing. So she's putting a lot more on the line than she's comfortable with and it still pretty much sounds like cr*p, and she kinda realizes that. The other character is not exactly acting like he accepts the apology (such as it is) but he turns to the window and confesses this deep personal dilemma that he's under, and she had no idea, but it's the kind of thing she could be expected to be very judgemental about. So suddenly it's like okay, are you about to prove yourself a liar as well as completely unable to apologize, or are we actually going to have a conversation about this? And it turned into this really subtexted moment that I was pretty darn happy with. Also the scene was like 1600 words altogether, and I really needed that. I am so behind!

Kind of sounds like the awkward honeymoon that I had a couple of my characters go through. I don't remember how many words that gave me, but quite a lot. And, even though most of it was filler (i.e. not planned), it was a lot of fun to write.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Okay, so I haven't finished reading Snuff yet, but I was just listening to my mp3 player, and got psyched up to do some writing. I bounced back over to another story I'm writing, but hey, words are words. And while I only got in 538 words, that brings me up to 4972. And while writing, I discovered that one of my characters is NOT a morning person. And one of the characters that only showed up for a little bit earlier in the story has made a reappearance. "Brother Jean, it's good to see you again. And you brought coffee. Smart."

I've been doing most of my writing by hand. I was keeping up with the typing in January, but I haven't typed much of anything since then. Estimating by number of pages (more accurate for me than you might think, I've been doing this a while) ... I'm at about... (shuffle, shuffle) ... roughly... (calculator) 45,400. Not too bad. Not as much of it is actual progress on my actual novel as I would have hoped though. Must focus.

What I meant to say, was, yeah I got busy on the weekend and I try not to lurk in the forums if I haven't got my 1k yet. Not that you made me go "puff." Although if it seems like a recurring problem for you, you may try to stop assimilating people. I hear that makes it harder for folks to make forum comments, when that happens.

So, I only got in 216 words tonight, but that brings me over 5,000 words. Yeah, it took me 2 months to write over 5,000 words. I did much better last year at this time. Anyhow, I'm now at 5188 words. I'm considering doing something stupid, and just turn this into an all-nighter...

Ok, got out the calculator and so far my total word count for Jan+Feb is... *drum roll* 35,330 words. Gosh, that's disappointing.

Not really, it's more than 35k more than you had at the start of the year. And it's more than twice the length of the longest draft I ever had before (... three, and a half, four?) months ago. Just keep working at it!

Well, I got in 1058 words in tonight, so that brings me up to 6246. By the way, it's really hard to write a police debriefing while listening to Whiskey In Mind by Christian Kane (not familiar with the song? Look it up. It's good!)

Okay, in one story I wrote 13 words, had to jump ship to a different story, and I was able to write 587 words, so I'm now at 6858. Sadly, I believe this is going to be my total for the Jan+Feb challenge. Still, I will keep on writing, even if my word count from January doesn't count for the Feb+Mar challenge. And I have a feeling I'm going to see quite a few of you there...

Well, I've just written the last few words of fiction (the only words I've been counting, otherwise what with blogs and such it would've been much more!) that I will be writing in February, so it's time to announce my total so far. Since January 1st, I have started and completed one novel, and started the next in the series which is making good progress. And on these novels, I have written - *drumroll* 102,990 words. Ta dah!

Finally word count is a slightly disappointing 42,066 words. Oh well. At least I regained interest in a story that has given me trouble for at least a year and I have no intention of stopping.

Congratulations everyone, whether you 'won' or not! However many words you wrote, whether it was 1 or 10,000, it's still better than writing nothing. You're all winners in my book. Personally, I'm doing the Feb + Mar challenge, but that doesn't mean I can't post here. So...*cheers*
