Lines/Characters you hope to use in this year's projects.

A lot of the stories I've started have come from me building around a line/character I liked. Mostly lines, but whatever. Ironically, half the time those lines don't even make it into the plot. XD
Here's a small dialogue piece I want to use this year, whether it be for NaNo, Camp NaNo, or something miscellaneous:
"Why do we let him boss us around, anyway?"
"Hey, if YOU want to stand up to the sadistic French guy, be my guest."

And, of course, the character I've literally just started basing around that dialogue: Professor Jasper Acier Foudroyant, hermit and ex-French professor extraordinare! He's been living alone in his cottage for twenty-five years now, having retired early from his teaching job at a renowned university. About sixty or seventy, perhaps? Has a short temper and usually goes about muttering to himself. Also believes that there are two French phrases that can be applied to any question or statement: "les poisson(s) vivent dans l'eau" and "donne-moi un jus de pamplemousse" (get on a translator site). Loves anagrams. His own name can be arranged to spell Foray Donut.
I really love this dude so far. I totally have to find him a plot.
Anyway, are there any lines or characters you all hope to use this year?

“Never take an important thing seriously. If something is important and you act like it’s important, you will start to think its importance is just an act."
And
"You are going to die! You are GOING TO DIE! Look, he's dead, what did I say?" I like it because it makes me think of what I say when I'm watching horror movies, but I'm want to use it in regard to real life, with two of my MCs watching a fight.

That could turn out to be sooo dark humor, but I like it^^

I've got this last sentence of *something* I am so going to use, either in a fanfic I'm outlining right now, or in a short story, I'm still undecided. But I *will* use it...
"And from a window in the church tower, a man without a face was watching them leave.
She would return.
He would make sure she would."

I have an idea which is running out of control a little because all the minor charatcters want their 15 minutes of fame and some like it in the spotlight so much they refuse to leave again. Just fyi, it's fantasy with Elves, Men and Vampires.
I've just realised I'm in a library with an arsonist. Kindly ask him not to torch anything.

Vampire: Do you want to kill them or should I?

Once in a writing book I read (Pen on Fire) the author said to collect random and funny phrases to use in novels. I currently have a stockpile.
As for characters: Ella May. She's always under five, super cute, and obsessed with either pirates or horses. I used her on an RP forum and *LOVED* her, so she's being recycled as a two-year-old into my latest novel.
Marcus, a Confederate soldier. He was forced to kill his Unionist brother in battle. (Also from an RP forum lol)

"Wait, you think me and Tim..." I started laughing, forgetting my anger.
"What's so funny?!" my husband demanded.
"Tim's gay!"
"Wait, what?" He thought about it. "And here I was thinking he smiled at me because I was such a good customer."

I know this sounds kind of random, but it's just a bit I want to have in one of my stories.

I have a character I want to use. No plot, yet.
Ebony, a mental hospital patient. She has nothing wrong with her. She was just dragged off one day on her way home from school. No clue why, no clue where she is, beyond the name White Pine Asylum. Just that it's not right. She's anger biting, sarcastic and bitter. (You would be too if you lived where she lives) She's stuck having to deal with the other patients/prisoners. They don't have anything wrong with them either.

Re: Lines/Characters you hope to use in this year's projects.

I actually ended up with a weird thing for my next project. I was checking out the NaNo forums and someone talked about a horror story from the perspective of the monster. I thought, "What a novel concept, but how would you do it?" Then I thought, "Oreos . . . mmmm." That was followed by some thoughts that aren't appropriate for this forum and then I started mulling over the idea.

The problem inherent with writing it from the monster's perspective is that invariably, it would come back to making the monster more of a sympathetic character (e.g. King Kong). It would end up losing the "monster" moniker because it becomes just confused or misunderstood or whatnot. So . . . how to have a TRUE MONSTER and write from it's perspective?

I kicked it around for a while and just could not come up with a viable character concept. It always came back to a creature fighting back or misunderstood or something. Then it hit me. I've had a "character" hanging around for years!

Overkill belongs to a race of wolf-like beasts that can become human. Basically the opposite of a werewolf. He has waged war against humanity for years. Tell the story from the first person perspective of one of his new packmates!

The plot is in the process of being developed now! :D

I want so very very badly to make the following scene fit into something in the coming Camp NaNoWriMos. I have a rough idea of the two characters, but I have no plot beyond the witty banter... so it's been sitting in my Snippits since 2008. *sighs*

“Alright, so think about it like this: if you don’t do what I want, I’m going to kill your dog.”
“I don’t have a dog.”
“And by ‘dog’ I mean ‘brother’.”
“Or a brother.”
“Close family members?”
“I’m an orphan.”
“Girlfriend?”
“Boyfriend, and no.”
“Well damn, you’re not making this easy.”
“We could always start dating, then you could kidnap yourself.”
“As tempting as that is… no.”

I think it was just referencing the fact that the person's brain was like jell-o. I'm sure it was supposed to be an insult, but like I said, I have no idea where I pulled this from.
"It was the kind of place that had far too many seagulls and not a sea in sight."

^Not sure what kind of story that will fit into yet
Ya know, in Colorado they have all kinds of "seagulls", but Colorado is completely landlocked. The seagulls live in the garbage dump and feed off of the garbage. Hope this helps!

Are you pulling Perry into this? Cause you could confuse a wombat with a platypus, I think. Hmm, maybe I need to stop writing for a minute and refresh my gray matter witha picture of a wombat.

I'm planning on using a character called Erin that moves to Japan in the Spring of 2010. She is supposed to be a fictional me. But, even though I have only written almost 200 words, I can already tell by where the story is going that she is going to be really unruly and difficult to use. She is supposed to mirror what I have doen here in Japan and how I handled the earthquake in March of last year.

So, here's what I call "Marcus's Story"

The eyes where the thing that bothered me.
As I rested by the campfire, my dead brother's eyes were the things that haunted me.
I thought of "The Tell-Tale Heart", how the eye fueled the murder and the heart haunted. But in this case, the eye filled both roles.
I had shot my brother. My brother. My flesh-and-blood, my best friend, the man who shared my name. Father of two, loving husband, with so much to live for. But I had taken it from him.
The stars above reminded me of that glassy eye. The full moon prodded the memories into my conciousness. And it all filled me with guilt.
Was it murder? Was it a casualty in the war? Should Ibtreat it like I had treated all the other men I killed, with resignation?
