Writing Schedules

I find very often that I have the inclination to write, but I simply do not have the time. I did not finish my writing at the end of November, and I really have to continue, but I have to find something that works for me. I've read of all of these schedule ideas and motivational techniques online, but I am having issues sticking to it. Is there anyone who has some sort of set in stone schedule that they follow that really works well for them?
Thanks!

I usually write in the evening before I go to bed. Sometimes I get distracted by the internet and the games that I play on the internet, but I usually just turn off the wireless function and keep writing. Also, sometimes while I am doing stuff that doesn't require a lot of thought I think about the story that I am writing and whatever I come up with I write it down as soon as I can. I usually have a notebook handy at all times so that when I think of a great addition or an action scene, I can just quickly jot it down and add it my story later.

Well. How about every time you find yourself starting to Google search stuff about writing, just open your document instead and write for a few minutes instead of reading about writing. It's funny to think how much time I have spent thinking about writing and reading about writing and talking about writing and how comparatively little I have spent writing. That ratio just needs to get turned around. :)

The only thing that I can say works for me is writing at night. However, this only works because I have no job and no place I need to be during the day. If I did, I have no idea when I would be able to write. Writing at night gives me the advantage of not getting interrupted by outside forces.

Can you try getting up half an hour earlier in the mornings? I find the mornings work best for me, but of course it depends on what time you're already getting up in the mornings.
I'm a student and really don't have anywhere to be most mornings so I've started getting up at six to write. So far I've had varying degrees of success.
Alternatively, could you set aside half an hour in the evenings to write? Or go to bed half an hour later? You've really got to keep experimenting to find out what works best for you.
Maybe you just need more outside motivation to keep writing? You could join in the 60k/60days thread for Feb/March so you have another reason to try and stick to a schedule.

I also found this very helpful:

It's impossible for me to find time. I can only find about 15 minutes to type up some story stuff on 750words.com

And even then it's impossible. Why oh why did we have to move?

I've been struggling with this myself and have found that getting out of the house/office seems to help more than a set time. I write in my car at lunch during the work week, or at the coffee shop during our Saturday write-ins, but very rarely at home.

I'm not sure why I don't write at home, but I'm in the process of creating a writing desk that's as appealing as I can make it—once that's finished if I'm still not writing at home I may have to give up and just open a line of credit with the coffee house. :P *sighs*

I've been trying to figure out how to get up early so I can write then (I've got a thread with loads of suggestions/tips from folks over in The Year of Doing Big, Fun, Scary Things Together forum), but so far that's been a wash as well.

Ah well, at least there's no time limit for learning these skills! ;)

I'm a nocturnal writer. That's about the most accurate schedule I will ever follow^^
If it's dark outside, I write. If not, well, good luck making me work on my stories...

Strangely, when I'm visiting my parents, I'm much better at sticking to specific writing times. Probably correlates with the fact that if I don't, my mum starts nagging me about how I don't write but play video games with my brother instead... *coughs* Causing me to go in teenager mode: "But they are sooo cool, and I just don't want to write right nooow!"

I know exactly how you feel! I am having the worst time getting into a good routine again. The last time I did well, I was going to the library on days off or before and after work. I work retail so my schedule is all over the place. I didn't have a set time of day to write, but I would figure out each week and just forced myself to go. After doing it for a week or so, it became habit and I didn't have to force myself anymore. It is hard right now that I have full-time work and school so when I have free-time, I have to decide if I should be doing school work or writing! I definitely think having a special place to write helps. I would go to the same couple of tables at the library.

I know for me, getting out of my house is the only way I actually get something done. Is there anyone near you that you could meet up with? I have been meeting with one of the girls from my area who also did Nano and it is nice to have someone expecting you. We meet at a local coffee shop. It's only 1 day a week but it has been helping.

I don't really have a routine . . . I normally try to fit in as much writing as possible, so that means hours a day, but it also depends on what I'm doing. If we have to something else, (like grocery shopping) I go into a depressed state in which writing could only please me xD

I Have a time log. It's not a schedule, when I start writing i enter the time, when i finish I enter that time and what I got accomplished. Seeing what I have done already helps motivate me to continue. where a schedule is too constricting for me

Another night writer here. I find it hard to write in the hustle and bustle of the day, but when everyone in my family has gone to sleep and I have no homework to be done or other chores, I'm free to write.

Thank you all so much for your tips! The lack of time in addition to the lack of inclination and discipline is just killing me, but I will certainly try all of your tips!
