I've tried writing this character at different ages all in first person and I'm struggling with authenticity, I guess. She's such a precocious 7 year old in that case. ;D Any thoughts? It's a complicated emotion. I like the clarity of that structure (some writers label the character's name at the beginning of that POV character's chapter to make it very clear). And I like the flexibility and heightened interest which come with alternating. See, for example, Cold Mountain, but there are many other good examples. It's difficult (for me) to do more than two major POV's without confusing the reader (and the writer), although many best-selling authors seem to pull it off without difficulty.
