Hi! I've been around the boards for a few years now, but I mostly lurk. My name is Catherine, I'm a 16 year old Junior in high school.
I just got finished with a semester of Newspaper class and I'm desperately going to miss it, so I had an idea to start an internet magazine of sorts and I knew that Nano was the best place to find those willing to be a part of it!
My basic idea: An internet magazine hosted on Tumblr. I would use blogspot, but blogspot is outdated. Tumblr is what all the cool kids are using now. :p It would hopefully have its grand opening on Febuary 1st. The content would be written by teenagers, for teenagers, about anything the writers felt like writing. There wouldn't be monthly or weekly issues, but a continuous stream of articles daily. Photographers welcomed too.
I'll put more details in the next post to keep them a reasonable length.
Who I'm looking for: -A managing editor. The managing editor's job would be to take care of the magazine while I'm away. He or she would also have the password to the Tumblr account and would help post articles. They would also write articles.
-Copy Editor: The copy editor's job would be to edit all of the articles submitted for error. This is a lofty task, so there could be co-copy editors if needed.
Writers!
We would have a news section, opinion section, photography section, short story/poetry section, and whatever else is suggested.
I'm willing to have up to 20 writers. If you're interested, post and we'll talk!
What I'm really looking to make is the magazine I can never find; something relavent to my life, something that deals with the issues that I and others my age are really going through, instead of the angsty, irrelavent magazines aimed at teenagers that can be found in book stores.
I'd be interested in writing, and possibly copy editing if needed. I'm not totally sure how much time I'll have to do copy editing, but it's a possibility.
Hmm...Glad I was curious and clicked on this! I will most diffidently be interested in writing some stuff for this...Of course though all legal matters will have to be handled through my attorney...Oh just kidding I don't even have one of those [14 teen here] but just put my name and whatever on it. Anyways enough cheesy jokes I will be willing to do some writing and maybe a little editing if needed [Not my strongest suit but I'll give it a shot]. I'll be pressing the refresh button waiting for a reply ;]
Hmm, a very interesting concept. I'm extremely willing to help out with copyedits and maybe the occasional article- whether my schedule will allow it is a different matter altogether. *is a high school senior just finished with scholarships*
I would be interested in writing. Though news section doesn't sound like something I could do - I live in Germany, so most of the news I watch are focussed on Europe.
Wow! I'm glad I'm getting such a good response. You're all welcome to join. Christina Huling, would you be interested in being the main copy editor? If so, you can "hire" others to help you.
I'm not really sure what else to say... does anyone have any questions?
Any name ideas? Once we get a name we can all agree on, I can make the blog and we can get started.
Also, if everyone would write a little bit about themselves so we can all get properly introduced, that would be nice. :)
I'm Catherine, as I said before. 16. My favorite book series is Harry Potter (original, I know) and I love Howl's Moving Castle. I'm currently in IB French class. I have one dog, Daisy, who is my plump little sausage, and one cat, Rose, who hates me.
I'd be interested in writing, it sounds fun. I don't have any ideas for names though. I'm Lauren, and I'm 15. I like most fantasy books, but stay away from sci-fi,(it depends. I am not an alien person) I like anime and all that jazz, and love art, drawing and music. I play French Horn and Trombone in band, and I'm currently stressing about finals next week.(Freshman._.)
Hmmm...do you have an idea for a more specified theme? That might help with coming up for a title.
As for me, my name is Elle, I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I'm getting certified in Graphic Communications which is how I got into photography. I'm in love with Harry Potter, fanfiction, and extremely loud Alternative music. I have a younger brother named Liam, sand a German Shepard named Dakota.
I'm Christina, and I'm 15 and in tenth grade. I've got no pets unless I count my older brother ;). My favorite book is The Legend of Holly Claus by Brittany Ryan. I love NCIS, NCIS: LA, Unforgettable, Bones, and The Mentalist. I read an outlandish amount of fantasy, mysteries, and just about anything. I'm in Mock Trial and Speech and I'm a complete and utter geek :D.

This seems awesome and I'd totally be a writer/photographer. A note on the copy-editor idea: after they edit the writing (especially if its short story/poetry) they should probably send the new copy to the writer, because sometimes people purposefully have unstructured sentences(or at least I do this). That way you won't get writers all up in arms about anyone "messing up their vision" or anything like that.
Moving on: Hi, I'm Adeline, 16, Junior. I'm one of those super artsy-fartsy folk that does just about anything that has to do with expression and stuff. I don't read as much as I'd like to, but I tend to read more fantasy books although my favorites are usually realistic fiction (the Great Gatsby) or historical fiction (The Book Thief) which probably has more to do with the fact that those authors both write with great imagery and I love me some imagery. I love music, I listen to it for at least an hour a day if not more. I am always looking for more. I tend to listen to a mix of folk, soft rock, alternative and acoustic, with jazzy hints thrown in.
I see what you mean with copy editing. Our articles and opinion pieces should obviously be grammatically correct, but in fiction rules can bend. I'm fine with fragments, and I actually use them all the time, but fair warning: I may go postal on semicolons and dangling participles and comma splices and lay vs. lie and whom. But I can see when perfect sentence construction yields its importance to dramatics and flow. Poetry is also different. I write (mostly terrible) poetry and I get that poetry sometimes sacrifices grammar for art. Poems should stay as they are except for typos.
This just turned from a general response to a specific method of grammar-sorting. How does it sound?

I think for poetry and even short stories because I tamper with my sentence structure all the time in those, maybe there should be recommendations for how to do the grammar but not actual changes. Oh I suck at commas so that's good for me personally (you know they never actually taught us how to use the comma correctly in school..). I strive to have more proper use of commas but I often use fragments and sometimes (I don't really know why) I just decide not to capitalize the beginning of a sentence if it's poetry on purpose, you are warned.
Yeah, I usually turn automatic capitalization off when I type poetry, too. I like the idea of checking everything with the writer except the final typo check.
I'm pretty open to the theme. I want this to be able to appeal to all kinds of teenagers. I think if each of the writers adds their own personality and interests, we'll be able to cover a wide range.
Hey. So I REALLY don't have time to take on another project right now, but this looks like fun, so...
I'm on my schools paper as the managing editor of the online section. I've also done copy-editing and real editing, so I have experience with all three sides of print and online editing, so if you need one of those positions filled, I could probably do it. I also have experience with the writing and photojournalism side of things, but I really don't know how much time I have. This looks like a fun project though, so...
:) I'm Helen, 17. I'm American, but I listen to kpop and a tiny bit of jpop (Korean and Japanese pop). My readings gotten slow recently, but I like fantasy and scifi for the majority of my reading - that's also what I write. I hang out with writers a lot, and have picked up some tips as well, so hopefully that will come in handy.
Are you all open to the idea of someone posting not to regularly? Because this seems like a /lot/ of fun, so I do want to join in. But I'm already on my own blog, participating in a collaborative one, and now I want to take up this. xD
I'd love to join you guys, if you'd have me, that is.
I can probably make posts twice a month, and erm. Yeah. I'm not too into the loop, seeing as I live in Asia. And I'll be going under a pen-name, if I join. -points to username-

German Folk, Symphonic Metal, Death Metal (at least that's what a classmate called it...), J-Pop, K-Pop, Soundtracks. I'm also really nerdy and fangirl a lot, mostly about novels and shows.

I can totally do copy-editing for you; I'm pretty much obsessive about that kind of thing. I'd like to do some writing, too.

This seems like it could be a pretty cool idea. I'd be interested in doing the photography.

Hmmm, I'll have to get back to you on some names. They'll probably come to me at about 2am and wake me up...
I could also do some writing, for news or opinion if needed.
One title that just popped into my head: The Nook.
Don't ask why, please, for I really don't have an answer.
