I already miss the old Afghanistan thread, and it's always nice to enjoy a bit of camaraderie, so I'm restarting the thread we had going.
To recap: I'm a Marine in RC(SW), and this is my first actual attempt at NaNoWriMo. I had planned to do it last year, but being in garrison tends to be busier than being in-country for my Occupational Specialty, and too many distractions and other commitments came up.
This time around I've got two other people joining me here, a fellow Marine and a former active duty Marine who's now a civilian working with us. Hopefully the three of us will keep each other accountable in our daily writing.
So, share what you’re able to about who you are, where you are, and any other details about your novel, your plans, and your experiences with NaNoWriMo.
I'm in Afghanistan (and started a "say hi" thread in the Elsewhere : Middle East forum). I have one writing buddy who I see at work via chat, but none I know on the same base. Hoping to stumble across someone before Nov 1.
I wrote from Afghanistan last year. It was a challenge, but it is do-able. One tip - try to get done a few days early. It took me trying on three different days to get uploaded and counted - due to rockets, blackouts, and so on.
Great I thought I was the only one in Afghanistan doing this. I'm in the Army in RC-S. I've recruited about 4 other soldiers to attempt Nanowrimo with me this year. This is my first year also. Good luck to you and all and stay safe.
Hey all of you in Afghanistan! Hope things are going well with you. I was a Wrimo last year in Afghanistan and I know how tough it can be over there. Got my support and good luck on your novels!

Re: Writing In Afghanistan
I'm writing from Iraq. I know it's gonna get tough near the end of November because of my unit's redeployment but I'm gonna try and keep up with it.
Re: Writing In Afghanistan
I'm in AFG also... up north Mazer-e-Sharif...
Hey Rachel ;-)
First time Nano-er also (I guess that's a case of beer!), Can't wait to get started!
Re: Writing In Afghanistan
My sister just got back from that neck of the woods (or lack of woods) working with some NGOs. Good luck with your NaNo!
