Okay, in the good old days a charge of Treason would get you the death penalty.

But now, let's say in a state where the Death Sentence is still active, would Treason be enough to earn you one of those golden tickets?

What if we add Murder in the first degree... x2? Is that worth the death sentence? (You may have seen this in the refernce desk. I thought that i would bring it up to the actual Mystery lovers as well.)

It depends on where the treason and murder took place. If your story is in the US, who is bringing the charges.

To my knowledge only the US Code has Treason charges (USC Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 115, Sections 2381 through 2390). Treason offers a sentence of a fine of up to $10,000, and imprisonment for five years to life or the death penalty.

As far as murder, the person could be charged federally or under the prevailing state code.

What do you need to make your story work?

I iknd of want the death sentense to at least just be an option, because I want the main character to have this one line as he's talking to the victims father.
