But now, let's say in a state where the Death Sentence is still active, would Treason be enough to earn you one of those golden tickets? What if we add Murder in the first degree... x2? If your story is in the US, who is bringing the charges. To my knowledge only the US Code has Treason charges (USC Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 115, Sections 2381 through 2390). Treason offers a sentence of a fine of up to $10,000, and imprisonment for five years to life or the death penalty. As far as murder, the person could be charged federally or under the prevailing state code. What do you need to make your story work?
