So, I was thinking the other day, after NaNo I'm probably going to need a creative outlet that isn't writing for at least a few days after November, and one of the first things that came to my mind was drawing. Now, I am not very good at drawing, but before NaNo I was enjoying spending a little bit of time trying to improve on it.
The problem I keep running into, is the more of a perfectionist I am on a drawing, the less likely I am to ever finish a drawing. I can spend ages trying to make a teeny, tiny little section look the way I want it to. The problem with this is that I do more erasing than drawing, and while I'm now a master at erasing, my drawing still needs more work. I mean, I've improved on it a lot, but don't want to stop trying here.
So, between that and the fact that I love NaNo style challenges, I've decided to try this challenge. Now, while I sort of came up with the idea myself (and entirely because of the NaNoing plot bunnies dancing madly in my head), I'm sure a Google search would prove that somewhere out there there's a site for this sort of challenge. But, I'm posting this here because I know that if anyone would be interested in joining me, it would be my group of lovably, crazy writers here.
I currently don't have any hard and fast rules set out. I was thinking about taking whatever I draw on Day 1, I'll redraw on Day 100, to see if I've improved any. If you care to join me, you can draw whatever you want, be it anime/manga-style or realism, fanart or original. Heck, you can choose to do little paintings or oekaki or photoshop collages instead. I'm pretty flexible. Basically, if it's something you want to improve on, I say go for it. Also, if there's a day when you just can't draw, I'm cool with making two in a day or extending the challenge to day 101 or something, because come finals week, I know I'll probably need it.
I don't have any set date for it at the moment. I mainly just want to see if there's interest. I was going to go ahead and start December 1, but then I realized I will probably be sound asleep all day, so that wouldn't work. Also, I haven't figured out where the best place to post everything would be. I thought about DA or creating a blog for it or something, but I'm open to suggestions.
I'm not expecting to suddenly get drastically better at drawing, I'm mainly just wanting to get into the habit of drawing more regularly and not being such a perfectionist. So, anyone feeling just crazy enough to join me?
I, in my opinion, am a total failure at drawing. I'd still participate, though, because drawing is something I really like. My drawings would mostly be fanart, I think, with some studies of my own characters. In manga-esque style because my tries at realism were kind of horrifying. :3
This idea really makes me wish my printer/scanner wasn't dead! If I had a means of getting my work uploaded I'd love to join this. I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself; I don't go nuts with the eraser but I do need to darn well hurry up and finish things instead of taking forever over them.
Question: could I do this challenge in the medium of salt? It's an interesting medium that I've wanted to try for a while, and this would give me plenty of practice with it.
I'm in. I need to work on my drawing as well. I'm not too bad, but I still need practice. And it gives me an excuse to buy a brand spanking new sketchbook that my son is not allowed to turn into his drawing pad.
Brindabelle - Got a digital camera? That's how I do it, since I sadly do not having a working scanner. Not great quality, but you get the idea anyway *drools over scanners*
If the artwork- and stretching it out to include painting, collage, mixed media as well as drawings were in the form of artist trading cards or art postcards- maybe we could have a real life swap. If there's interest and people follow through....
I hadn't even thought of Flickr! I've never had an account there. Can you create groups and stuff? I've always kind of thought of it as for photos, the thought of posting sketches there never even occurred to me, lol. XD
*Really wishes there was an edit button* I would love to start today! Since I sort of hit the Thanksgiving/NaNo craziness, I sort of dropped the ball with this one, so I'm not sure how many people would actually be able to start today. :/
If you really, want to start today though, I'm perfectly willling to start today -- even if that means that I stretch my own to like 115 days or something to accomodate when other people start. XD
I'm way to excited for this, lol. I'm already offerring to draw as many pictures as I have 1k words for November.
I would love to join! I need to start something to distance myself from my NaNo Novel for a bit and jump start my portfolio. This should give me some sketches to work off of!
Okay, sorry guys, I got kind of swept away into the last week of NaNo and holiday craziness and then sort of lost the thread and had to try and find it, lol.
I'm so glad to see so many people interested in this!!! I didn't expect this many! :D
Is there any particular date that you want to all start? I was thinking December 15th, but that may be a little bit too soon and plus with the holidays and finals, it might get a little crazy (but crazy's a good thing right?).
Any one else have any ideas/preferences on where to post stuff (for those of you who can)?

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
...I think this is actually a really good idea. I would totally join you on this.
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'd be up for it. I've been just starting out trying to teach myself how to draw and could use the peer pressure to practice.

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
Haha, I feel the same way! i'm probably going to be doing fanart of some kind or another two, so no worries, lol. XD
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
The best I could draw is a sword. Sorry.

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
How do you do it in salt? That sounds very interesting!
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I've never heard of salt, but I am totally open to letting you all create whatever it is you want to create, so go for it! :D
(And what is salt?)
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I think they mean like...table salt. Salt. It's not a brand or anything. :)
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
lol, okay thanks. I was just wondering if it was some specific technique or something. XD
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post anything, but I'll be drawing with you in spirit, anyway.

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I have a scanner finally. Whee. Not really an artist, but I did want to make a comic eventually. If I did participate, it'd be a page a day.
Downside is I suck at editing the pages. I have huge paper, so one page would take 3 scans.

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
That would be interesting. I hadn't even thought of anything like that. Maybe we could if there's enough interest.
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'm in, though it's highly unlikely anyone would see my work. No scanners and stuff.
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
This sounds like a great idea! 100 days starting December 1st? Maybe we could post them somewhere where other people doing this can see them?
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
And I see that you already suggested posting them somewhere *smacks forehead*
Perhaps flickr has something that we could use?

Moving to NaNo Artisans
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'm in, I've sketches to finish anyway.
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
Sure, I'm awful but I can try. Maybe not every day, but I'll try.
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'm in! This is a great idea!

Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I'm probably crazy for saying this, but I'd love to join in! Whether I make it or not is another matter entirely... Anyway, I'm with you!
Re: 100 Sketches, 100 Days
I could do stick people but that's about it. Nonetheless, awesome idea!
