Hi everyone, congrads to those who finished and those who are extending into December. I have attempted to start editing, though I find myself adding instead. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but at some point I'm going to need to go back and rewrite the whole draft. Or perhaps restructure and rewrite.
I've had a look at the "now what" advice page. Some seems a lot more relevant to novels than to non-fiction, which is what I've been working on. For instance, I do not have any characters I'm going to need to cut no matter how much I love them. Some of the advice could be "translated" - for instance the advice to consider editing like building a house - you have material, now go back and create a foundation, build a structure more or less from scratch.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on editing that is specific to non-fiction?
non fiction poetry? non fiction how to? non fiction history? non fiction autobiography? non fiction essay collection?
- "next steps" could vary dramatically but will all generally require stepping back and * assessing "What do I have?" * identifying "Where do I think I want to go?" and then * determining "what do I have to do to get from here to there?"
I wrote not-a-novel, now what?
