OLL chose to call this section Outside the Box & this forum NaNo Rebels for very good reasons. It's for people all over the world who would like to join with other crazy/wonderful/terrifying writers to write 50K in the 30 days of November--but who will be doing it on their own terms. Marching to the beat of a different drummer. Having it their way.
We did NOT call it The Cheaters Corner, or The Fraud Forum, or the Wannabe Hangout, or... well, we could go on, but, again, you get the picture, right?
The good reason? First of all, we wanted to make this an inclusive event--but we chose the words we used because words are powerful. Using words with provocative, inflammatory connotations is negative. Please keep this in mind & respect the spirit of NaNoWriMo & the folks who use this forum when posting to this forum
I've already started my novel, and I may not get 50,000 words written, but I love the energy of NaNo and when I've done it in the past it's always given me a major push. Go rebels!
Dragon Child are you an official member of the "in charge?" I try to be honest at all times and would lilke to know that if I write a memoir and valadate am I a "sinner". Some here feel that if this forum is allowed it must be ok. Is that true?
Dragonchilde has been a moderator (admin?) for as long as I can remember! I started doing WriMo in 2005 and I think they were "in charge" (with some other folks) back then! Fear not. :)
Oh yes! Finally! A place for me to belong! My novel is truly a NaNo novel. I started it during NaNo 2010 and haven't touched it since November 30, 2010. I'll pick it up again on November 1, 2011! Hopefully this year I'll finish it.
Hullo, rebels! I wrote little snippets of my novel, mostly last year, most of them less than 200 words and I plan to rewrite them all, but as I have actually touched my novel it's technically not from scratch. I'm basically doing NaNo as an excuse to get as much of my novel done as possible before I go to university next year, so.... Anyway, as I have written a little bit I'm joining the rebel ranks :D
To Death_By_Coffee, I just wanted to say, I simply ADORE your photo. It's hilarious. AVPS is one of my favorite things in the world... This really has nothing to do with the forum, so admin. feel free to take this post off. I simply wished to exclaim my admiration of this beautiful picture. Thank you.
Woo hoo! Hello to my fellow Rebels! :-) I have a solid 13,000 words finished of my first novel, and I thought NaNoWriMo would be the firm kick in the butt that I need to get another 50K or so on the page.
Hey, perhaps I fit in with the rebel crowd. I'm Geoffey Wood, in Memphis TN, USA, and my novel, Tale of Two Twitterers is a Vampire-Amish Romantic Comedy-Adventure replete with Social Media & Roller Derby.
I will be releasing a fresh chapter (plus extra bits) each day in the month of November.
Being a newbie, I didn't know how "strict" the enforcement of the "in the month" rule was. I was planning to try and reach 56, 000 words, but that is still not legal. Well then viva rebellion!
Woohoo! A place for me! :D I don't know if I'll post much on the NaNo forums (Because when I'm all NaNo'd up, I'm usually busy writing!) I'm going to be doing a snarky non-fiction book. I managed to finish my story last year but was only using the time to generate ideas for my webcomic. This year I actually want to make a book that I can edit and refine for at least another year. So glad to see other people are also doing non-fiction and other such things!
I have two novels in the works right now. One has nearly 60K words and the other 10K. I'm a newbie so I'm not very clear on the rules. I don't plan on counting my previous words, but there is no way in hell I'm starting another novel.
I'm a rebel!!! Whoot whoot! Since a pictures worth a 1000 words, I'm making a book made up only by pictures! They are gonna tell a story of a different kind. A story without words. :)
I just discovered I'm a rebel and I'm totally embracing it. This is my first NaNoWriMo. I know there's no way I'd reach 50K in one go so I'm working on a non-fiction short piece as well as two short stories. I was just using NaNo as incentive. I wasn't going to validate but now, that I learned that others are doing this, I just might. My word count is a combo of 2 right now, I'll be adding the third later. I can't focus on one work I have to have several going my plot bunnies won't leave me alone, they're tenacious little things. Thanks for giving us a spot and letting us know were not alone.
This is my 5th year participating in NaNoWriMo. I'm putting together a collection of poetry, short stories, journal entries, and more (all written by me), so here I am, rebelling!
Me too! Me too! I have several topics I'm writing as a series of articles, plus my memoir in fictionalized form. I'm here to develop my discipline as a writer. I'm so glad to have found the support! Go, rebels!
I think I may be joining you guys this year. It's my 7th NaNo and I'm extremely busy lately and short on story ideas so far, so I'm thinking I may write a "quarter life memoir." I think it'll be a fun exercise (because the only non-fiction I write at the moment consists of blog posts) and a little bit less stressful (I don't do any planning, so the story is sometimes a bit hard to uncover). But I haven't decided for sure yet!
So excited! This is my first NaNo and I am doing a 50,000 word freewrite! I'll let it turn into whatever it wants to turn into :) Nice to meet all you other rebels out there.
That's what I'm doing too! Once I realized that I could still participate, in this "rebels" category, I decided to stay in. Before that, I was wishing I'd never signed up, since the only writings I have done are journals, for the past (ahem...) 20+ years or so. I've never written fiction; in fact, I've always thought writing a novel was somewhat of a miraculous feat!
Being a journal lover myself, i think that makes you incredibly qualified in putting words together! Good luck. I'm a rebel too, writing a journaling-how to playbook for writers.
Good luck on your first NaNo!- freewriting and letting it turn into whatever it wants is a great way to free what lies inside. This is sort of what I plan too- I have a bit of a story line but some days I will just freewrite- whatever comes out. Best wishes :)
Hello, the usual rebel here (although I onlycall myself a rebel on the forrums, heh.) I always do first-draft WIPs during nano because I write 300k stories soooooo an extra 50k works for me!
Although technically last year it was a fresh draft and I wasn't a ~rebel~ but eh. Why fix something that ain't broken?
Hello Rebels... I'm Kaidee (as you could probably piece together from my username...) and I am half joining your ranks for this year, my second adventure with NaNoWriMo. Last year I found out about NaNoWriMo like three days before it was supposed to start, so I took a drabble I wrote (100 words of pure fiction) and expanded it mightily to meet the 50k words challenge that is NaNo. Unfortunately, I never actually finished said NaNoNovel, as I got pneumonia in December and I am a terrible patient, buttttt I'm finishing that novel this year. I plan to take it from 56.609 words (my current count) to just over 100,000 and to write a book of poetry alongside it, with its own total of 50,000 words. Too much? Probably. Will I try it anyway? Yup.
Hello! I think I belong here too. I am writing a series and have a multitude of characters who have been vying for my attention. Since I can't decide on one idea in particular, I'm considering writing a collection of short stories. This may change before November 1 but for now, I'm here.
Hello all, I'll also be joining the ranks of the rebellious. I'm working on my second novel in my current series and I've actually started on it a little, I'm bumping my aspiring total to 60,000 words before the end of november to compensate a bit . Very much looking forward to checking in during the month for tips and chats. Roll on the challenge!!
I'm going to officially join the ranks. For the past few years, I've started several novels over the course of the month... only to get bored 5K words into them and move on to the next one... and cycle through them all month. Now last year, I kept it down to 3, but still. They weren't related, so that's that.
Hello, fellow rebels! I have the greatest difficulty in finishing anything in one wrimo, so I am going to be redoing something I started in Camp. I probably won't be using any of the material I wrote--at least, not in its present form--but there might be some rewriting involved, not to mention all the free/preliminary writing I will be doing to get a feel for things. At least I'm not completely cheating...one of my nano novels is a rework, but my other nano novel will be a new effort. But that makes a total of 100k words, which is definitely going to be crazy.
I'm not actually sure what Rebeleous and Feindish things I will be doing for this Nano, but since I've been an un-official rebel for the last two Nanos and the two Camp Nanos I'm pretty sure I'll end up being one.
So it's lovely to meet you all and I hope to get to know you better in the coming month :D
I'm using NaNo to finish a piece that I started after I finished last year's NaNo, my goal is just to add 50,000 words to whatever I've got as of midnight on November 1st and I'm already working on the piece now. I didn't want to wait for November to get started.
Hey :) This is my first one, what a rebel being a rebel on my first time :P At the moment I'm planning on writing about my life, but I may change my mind before november!
Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.

Good to be back! Hello, other Rebels!
Re: Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.
Hello other Rebels! I'm excited to be joining the ranks!
Re: Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.
This is my 5th year of NaNo. I've won 4 times with fiction, but this year I'm going to be doing non-fiction. So, here I am to join the Rebels!
Re: Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.
Great track record! You're my model Nano'er. What are you writing this month?

There's a small chance I'll be finishing a previous year's failed Nano instead of starting a new one. If so, hello fellow Rebels!
If I end up doing traditional Nano after all, well, good luck to you and viva la revolucion! :)
Re: Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.
This is my 9th year in Nanowrimo and my 1st rebel attempt and also my first non fiction book attempt.
Greetings Fellow Rebels!
Re: Welcome to Rebellion! You are NOT a cheater.
Considering a rebel attempt this year, should be interesting if I do go that route! Glad I'm not alone!
