Suggest a song for the character above

Similar to the "suggest a song to the above poster" thread, but for specific characters instead of plots/themes.

Leave a description of your character. I'm not talking about their appearance or job or favorite color. Tell us about <strong>one</strong> of your characters' hopes and dreams, their feelings and struggles and motivations.

Then leave one or two songs that you think would resonate with the previous poster's character.

Someone else start?

Re: Suggest a song for the character above

My character is a girl that wanted to go to university, but couldn't because of financial concerns. When she gets a great job as a prestigious royal assistant, she is happy, but she feels that she can't always keep up with them because they have more education and life experience. She is working constantly to keep up this intelligent facade but it's killing her. However, she is a very good and sweet person. She dreams of being able to spend time with her family, with who she is forcibly seperated (it's complicated). She is in charge of a royal princess and loves her charge dearly, and yet also hates her for keeping her away from her family and forcing her to give up her normal life.

And darn it, I can't help anyone with their character's song....

Maybe this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2pH0w-viDs I'm not sure, though. Yours is really difficult, haha. XD Maybe someone else will find something better.

Mine... Hmm... Mine is a boy. He goes to this other world (think Narnia-esque. It's nothing like it really, but close enough) and he fights by his friends' sides, he loses his arm and he falls for his best friend. As he's leaving, he's ripped away, thrown back in time in this other world and stranded. There, he spends most of his time trying to get home while involved in yet another war until he realises he's fallen in love with the king and wants to stay. They grow old, have kids and live happily ever after.

Hmm... maybe this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoVJRzrHb-A Mystical, a little sad, a little strong, seems to fit the dreamlike quality of your synopsis.

Alright now. Mine is a 13-year old boy with medical issues in his lungs that prevent him from doing a lot of things and weigh on his shoulders a lot. He's very quiet, a little shy, reserved, and intelligent. His parents are Slayers (which kill the beasties that need slaying) and since it is his dream to be just like his dad, he tries to find out a way to overcome his sickness. He finds out in the process that it's not caused naturally, but instead by an inherited virus-like quality from both his parents because of their past experiences. (i.e. book one, heh). Anyway, although he's not very social, he loves his little sister and tends to be very protective over her.

Hmm, Karmagrl, got a character for me to give a song to? In the meantime, I'd recommend for Cloud 10's character the song "Into The Light" by Honor By August. Not sure why, it just seems kinda fitting... video for it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq7D5N0-i7A

To describe my character, I must first describe the situation: six ordinary strangers in a subway car suddenly find themselves transported to an alternate universe in which everything follows the rules of an adventure story (e.g., the cooler something is, the more likely it is to work). My character is an 18-year-old girl who is absolutely thrilled that this happened, though she doesn't necessarily want to stay there. She takes charge of the situation, being extremely genre-savvy (i.e. she can manipulate the rules of the typical adventure story to her advantage), and leads the group of strangers despite being the youngest one there (not counting the two-year-old). Got all that? Excellent. Personality-wise, she is rather quirky and exuberant. She likes to charge in without thinking. She likes being in charge, but doesn't necessarily like dealing with all the issues that come with leadership. Not the greatest as far as social skills are concerned, but very good at voicing her opinions. She's also a chronic nicknamer.

Hehehe, I love the idea that the cooler/more insane something is, the more likely it is to work in your adventure world. XD

For you exuberant heroine, I suggest this fun, wacky song: "Just the Way I Am" by Sky Sweetnam http://youtu.be/B34syPV-e5Y

@flyawaybefree - I also have a suggestion for your character: "Angel" by Sarah Maclachlin - http://youtu.be/QhKTPC8c6fA
Yeah, not the most original suggestion, but b/c your MC's separated from her family and home, the singer's loneliness in her "dark, cold hotel room" in "Angel" seems fitting. Also, the line "there's always some reason to feel not good enough" seems to fit with her insecurities on the job. Hope that helps!

As for my character, he's a cantankerous 16-year-old boy wizard in a high-fantasy world, searching for his long-lost father. Growing up basically an orphan as a ward of a prestigious wizard academy, he's got lots of book knowledge and is physically able to take care of himself, being a fairly formidable wizard. But he lacks a lot of emotional maturity and hides his social awkwardness by acting standoffish, leading many of his classmates to believe he's an elitist snob. His only real friend is a vagabond swordswoman, who is an outcast like him, as women practicing martial arts are highly taboo in this society. My MC doesn't care about social gender conventions and recognizes her talent as a swordsman, ultimately offering her a job as his bodyguard as he travels the world in search of his father (wizards are loaded in this world--everyone else is not, so the swordswoman was thrilled to find someone who'd actually give her a steady job--even if her boss is a stubborn, sometimes naive 16-year-old ;-D).

Re: Suggest a song for the character above

My character is a death oracle (can sense the most likely way a person will die) living in turn of the century (2000AD) New Orleans who is cursed with a fated death she can't change. She is pretty upbeat considering she knows she's going to die horribly, witty boardering on sarcastic, and has a tendency of getting into trouble because she knows she won't die until that fateful day. Just because you can't die doesn't mean you can't get hurt or end up hurting someone else inadvertantly. She likes grunge fashion because it's comfortable, she grew up during the 90's, and because she won't feel like weeping everytime her clothes get ruined or bloody. She will go out of her way to save someone from a death, damn the consequences, and has been burned a few times for doing so. She lives in a world where vampires, witches, and wereanimals exist, but unlike the Sooky Stackhouse or Anita Blake worlds, they exist in secret, known only to a select few. Vampires can't feed from her without the risk of going insane, though she isn't sure why.

I saw "grunge" and "90s" and I admit, my first thought was Nirvana. Maybe the song "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peclQi67KS8&amp;ob=av2n" rel="nofollow">Dumb</a>", or <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWmkuH1k7uA&amp;ob=av2e" rel="nofollow">All Apologies</a>"? Such a cliche, lol.

Um. Okay. Let's pick a character (I have like, twenty main characters kill me now). Okay. This character is a witch. She has a twin sister who she struggles to get along with - her sister is louder and brighter and more outgoing then she is. She's recently moved to a new town, and has bumped into an old flame of hers (that her sister also fooled around with, ,of course). She's shy and she's timid and now she's being thrust into this situation where she has to essentially save the world, along with her sister and her old flame and a whole bunch of other people that she doesn't know. She's intelligent but totally lacking in social skills, and she has this real hero complex: "I have to help everyone, I can save everyone". She tries so hard to be tough, bless her, but it's just not her. Hmm. What else? She's got these big green eyes and flowing black hair, I sort of see her as very nymph-like (if that makes sense!). She's a mellow girl, but I think if push came to shove (and her family was in danger, her friends were in danger) she probably would be able to step up to the plate. She just needs an oppurtunity to prove herself.

It's a hard one and i'm not really good in choosing songs for others, but anyway i'm trying to do my best.

The list i came up with;

Monica - Until It's Gone
Birdy - Shelter
Delilah - Go

I hope it's good. ;$

My story is about a whole group of children. But the most important character is Liam. He has one very good friend, her name is Kayce. People see Liam as the standard-hero, but inside he is very insecure. He never let anyone down, and he easily get lost in his own thoughts. Liam is 17, is blonde and is muscular, but not very overdone.
He's always looking for answers and the truth is very important for him, trust and faith to.

My first thought for Liam is Uprising - Muse because of the answers and truth being very important to him.

One of my main characters is a girl who is stuck on a farm in the midwest but dreams of moving to Hollywood and making it as an actress or singer with her boyfriend, but halfway through the novel her boyfriend is drafted and he has to go to war. So the girl has to go herself and try to make it in Hollywood.

Okay, give me a song for Leroy. Twentysomething former chess prodigy who snapped as a teenager just after winning a worldwide championship match against an opponent in his fifties. His DNA was stolen at that match by a Russian cloning syndicate, in order to make thousands of brilliant replicants. He's now a recluse who is brought out of hiding to help with a war on the Russian Federation and its supposed cloning-related "human rights violations" and develops an overprotective brother-sister relationship with my 16-year-old MC, Hannah. He might be a little unstable, but he's still brilliant and one step ahead of you.

Or maybe <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53ojlwGT2XA" rel="nofollow">A Different Complexion by Collapse Under The Empire</a>. Y'know. If instrumentals are your thing. If not, this shuffled through my iTunes recently and your description kind of reminded me of it? <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZcsnlMvLwE" rel="nofollow">In The Shadows by the Rasmus</a>? (: (And I love your username-- Los Campesinos!? ♥)

So I've been looking for ages and I can't find something that truly grabs the sort of playful amorality of my supporting character, a certain Puck. He ruins my MC's life systematically, but only to get her to follow her 'destiny.' He tries his best to be helpful within parameters but really can't help himself when it comes to tricking my MC, constantly making jokes at her expense, and leading her astray?

(Shakespeare really puts it best, though I'm working more from folklore than from A Midsummer Night's Dream:
"that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call'd Robin Goodfellow: are not you he
That frights the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern
And bootless make the breathless housewife churn;
And sometime make the drink to bear no barm;
Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck,
You do their work, and they shall have good luck:
Are not you he?")

I really don't know which novel I'm going to be writing, so let's go with Mekhora. He's a prince who doesn't want to go to war, so he seeks out a witch to help him. She listens to him and turns him into a woman so he can join a nunnery.

Mekhora is a bit of a coward, which spirals with his self-loathing because he doesn't fit in, and his older male relatives overshadow him by being good at all the "manly" activities. Mekhora prefers taking care of his younger siblings, and is more nurturing than creative, so he doesn't feel he is really that good at anything. He is also jealous of the witch's magical talent, though he knows he shouldn't because magic is a woman's art. Closer to the end of the novel, he faces his fears of dying and using his nurturing talents help out on the battlefield as a nurse. And that's all I have for him so far.

Max is stubborn, dependable, brave and outspoken. An only child of parents who really only paid attention when she reached an academic achievement, she learnt early on in her teenage years that she was the only one she could depend on. At 23, she lives on her own, has a history of partying [drugs &amp; alcohol], playing video games until sunrise and holding down a well paying but horrible work enviroment job at a local movie theatre. Her friends are her life, and she would do anything for them. Alright, onto Brentilyr. Brentilyr is a 250-year-old mountain-dwelling elf (See a slight mixture of Legolas and the night elves from World of Warcraft) with the body of a twenty-something. He's loud and unrefined, with a peppering of brash and impertinent. But on the flip side, he can be thoughtful, gentle, and kind. He just doesn't want to be. In my story, he wields the element of 'ice', so he is rather cold. No pun intended.

For some reason I am really thinking of 'One' by Apocalyptica. It kind of has all those elements. Plus strings, so what better for a mountain-dwelling elf?

Okay, my character is a desperately boring accountant who is stuck in a strange place far away from home (he doesn't have a name yet haha). He just really longs to be back home in his routine, with his slightly crazy girlfriend and his boring job. But a part of him is thrilled, secretly, for the possibility of adventure.

Let's see what you've got for me. My character is wandering throughout time and space in a near future of the earth, he wanders, if he stops or if he isn't careful, his destiny will get him, and he is trying to fight against that destiny, using really complicated timetravel that varies each time he uses it, and from person to person that uses it. Have at it, fellas!

My character is your average teenage girl but during a history project she discovers her family's dark Nazi past. She spends the rest of the story trying to come to grips with the fact that her great grandfather was a Nazi, even though she has vague loving memories of him from when she was younger. She eventually ends up visiting Germany and traveling to Kaliningrad Oblast to visit where her family originally came from. She begins questioning who she is and what she stands for before coming to grips with her family's past but still loving her heritage and who she is.

Janine is sixteen and all that goes with it. She's snarky, crass, and over-confident when it comes to sex. After all, how many girls her age can boast that they get to knock boots with a hot college boy? It all goes south when her beau realizes he could get in trouble with the law, her too-perfect step-sister moves in, and her father gets religion and goes on a crusade to rid the world of teen sex. Christian is a boy who thinks very little of the world (worlds, in this case). His people are hunted and forced into deadly work protecting who they hate the most or worse, killed on the spot. He practically killed his parents by accident when he caused the raging fire that burnt down his house. He's rebelling against the people who hunt his people down for their blood, along with his two best friends. But he can't help but feel more alone then ever, since his parents died. He stumbles upon a girl who is basically the enemy, and his goal is to sway her away from the safety of her home into rebellion. Amidst this all happening, he's beginning to lose faith in what little he had to begin with. Add a little snark, a little bit of saving the world and a little bit of controlling fire with his mind and you've got Christian.

It's not 100% lyrics-wise, but I think the sentiment is the same. I haven't listened to it in awhile and was meaning to, so that's good, too. :3

Aubrey is a seventeen year old thrust into a world of fighting, racism and rebellion. His entire family was murdered at different points by the government, who despises magic users and their supporters. He wants to have vengeance on the ones who left him all alone, but he's also afraid of fighting. He's uncertain. He's lonely. He's guilty about the things he's had to do to survive, and above all, he really wants the approval of his mentor. He wants the man who has become like his father to be proud of him.

Wow. Yours sounds very much like mine, replace the approval thing with loneliness and guilt, and magic with genetical powers and you've got my story xD

The song I thought of is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ov6Upl3vLU Just that Aubrey seems like he doesn't want to fight, but he'll do a lot to survive.

For my character, now I ain't saying she's a gold digger, but Laloj is ambitious. She intends to marry a high-born lord, as it's the only way she can improve her station. She really wants to be the Madame of a House and perhaps gain even more power by advising her future husband in all political and military escapades. To prepare, she pays special attention to her appearance and spends a lot of time in the Weaver's Guild, studying the tapestries of historical events. She is more self-centered than focused on others, but she is not selfish, and is willing to help others in non-direct ways. And that's what I've got for her right now.

Hmmm... I think 'Keep Yourself Alive' by Queen. Maybe 'Big Spender'. This one has been performed by a ton of people, so take your pick. XD It's hard to pin down just one for her.

Nicholas is the heir to the throne of an unstable kingdom. His father continually taxes the people in order to fund his personal projects. Nicholas is very aware of what his father is doing and knows that this isn't the way to run a kingdom, but he doesn't think that he can do any better. Despite years of being groomed for the throne, the young man lacks the confidence that a successful ruler needs. He is very soft spoken and would rather stay out of the lime light. He is very proper, even in private settings and is always questioning everything, even himself.

Tough one. Um, maybe "My Mind is a Box" by Pretty Balanced? http://youtu.be/apADvKKMrb0

I'm having trouble pinning down one character. He comes from an aquatic race. (A race that has more than two genders, but "he" is the pronoun I'm sticking with.) The characters find him near the coast while looking for an entirely different character. It turns out he was living with the character romantically but, shortly before they arrived, the antagonists made it there first and murdered the aforementioned character. He seems rather well adjusted despite the fact and ultimately tags along. He has a very que sera, sera attitude about life. Very New Agey and likely to see the positive in anything - to the point where it grates on the nerves of some of those around him.

When it comes down to it though, he really just lives in the now. He might be quick to move on after something bad happens, but while it is going on he is quick to take action and is fiercely protective

Helene, a first glance, comes off as shy and uncertain of herself, but as she gets an opportunity to get her bearings she is much more comfortable in her skin. She has a quiet fury, that echoes the cliche of 'still waters running deep' but it can be unleashed. She's insanely protective of her clients and people who seek her out for assistance. She was brought to a town to help it come out of it's shroud of Evil, and a lot rests on her. However, she acts as though she is on her own, and forgets to ask for help.

Alexandria lives a double life. Her friends (what few of them she has) know her as Xandry. Her clients know her as Ria. Xandry was born in the upper class and has a twin brother, Alexander. Their parents used them to experiment biological enhancements, and Xandry got the better end of the deal. She's good at practically everything, while Alexander is completely crippled. At age 14 Xandry left home and started slumming it. 2 years later she got her brother set up in a round the clock care unit. Where is she getting the money? By forging documents for whoever needs it, this world depends on college degrees and being able to pay for medical procedures, so people can easily be in desperate need. She preys upon this need, but she's sickened by it. She's 27 now, and as soon as she has enough money to pay for all the procedures for her brother to be fixed she's going to turn herself in. In the meantime, she's falling in love with the lead detective on her case without even knowing who he is, and vise versa.

Oddly, I'm reminded of the song Every Planet We Reach is Dead by the Gorillaz. Not sure the ambience fits your situation, but as it is... maybe you think so?

Elodie is a witch with one, single, loyal best friend to her name. She has to watch over her family in her mother's absence, and that doesn't just mean her two younger sisters that she has no will to raise, but also the whole extended family that it is a witch's duty to protect. It doesn't help that her mother barely showed her what to do and how to do it before leaving with her new husband on some unexplained joyride that had lasted more than two years already. All of this is aside from the fact that some religious madman is hunting her down because he thinks she'd make a perfect human sacrifice in some insane, unfounded ritual that will apparently make him into a god. It's religious nonsense that even the priests don't believe in, but this fanatic will do anything to get his hands on her. Elodie is a lot of things. She's a witch, yes, and she's a friend, and a surrogate mother, but mostly she's just afraid.

Ferran Ramses has been the ruler of the desert city Bal Hadar for two years following the death of his father. He has never had to fend for himself and grew up without confidence as his father was always there to hold his hand and second-guess his choices. As such, he has made a terrible ruler. And now a thief has stolen not only the royal crown, but his heart. "What would my father do?" loops endlessly in the back of his mind, tormenting him, keeping him from seeking out his true happiness. He wants to leave everything behind in the name of love, but can't seem to break free from his father's looming shadow.

Alright. Here's Mr. Veyth.

Mr. Veyth is the second in command to an enormous tribe of amphibians and reptile hosts (hosts are people who have the soul of another creature and can change into said creature). His whole life he has had to grow up in a forest without leaving, and never saw the real world until he was much older, when a poison dart frog host came to him and asked him to be second in command; when he explained what was going on, Veyth was excited. The dart frog wanted everyone to know of their existence, as they were 'wiped off the face of the earth' centuries ago. He's tired of living such a lonely, sad life, and with his bright and happy personality, will gladly help overthrow the (kind) Government.

I have to day the Mr. Veyth sounds like Vox Populi by 30 seconds to Mars (Time to go to war!)

And here is my character Sesso

Sesso is a boy who's Mother and Father never really loved him much. They were actually about ready to send him to the local Mafia to pay for their debts to the Mafia, so Sesso decided to run away. Since then he has not spoken a single word, however he loves to write. He can commonly be found with a pencil and paper writing down random stories or things that have happened to him during that day. His most prized posession is a journal that was given to him by a special someone (don't wanna give it away spoilers for my story ^.^) and he would attack anyone who touched it without his permission. While he is distant to most people as you get to know him and you gain his trust he will do anything for you, if some one were to hit his friend he would react like he had been hit, and not give avenging himself, or his friend, until he was forcibly dragged away.

Sesso's song pops out to me as "Anything For You" by Ludo. It's kind of a 'writer's world' sort of song, with a fictitious sort of air about it? I don't know? But it's also a love song (or I guess you could interpret it as a platonic friendship song) about, as the title suggests, how you would do anything for someone and the lengths you would go to to make them happy and impress them. :&gt;

OK HERE'S MINE AAH

Brent Smith is a painfully boring, closed-off, lazy, nihilistic sort of guy. Anything past getting out of bed is a stretch for him. He has kind of communist-esque views on life (Why should he have to pay just to have food and a roof over his head? 'Basic human rights' according to him!) and as such, he's unemployed and ready to get kicked out of his apartment.
He's a college dropout (his parents don't know) and clinically depressed (somewhere deep down he knows it, but he refuses to admit it). He hates everything but cats and coffee and the rest of the world hates him, or so he thinks.

Later in the story a bunch of crazy stuff happens and he winds up being the polar opposite to my power-bent antagonist and blah blah blah here is your bird spirit and your weird electric-but-not powers have fun!! But that's not really relevant?

@austere aveneue, I'd suggest Zzyzx Rd. by Stone Sour.

My fourteen-year-old character has just been sent to boarding school for the first time in his life. His parents are CEOs with no time for him or his little brother and sister, who are also at boarding school. He's got to take care of his siblings, he feels socially awkward at a new school and needs to find a way to show the orchestra teacher that even though he's only been playing for four years, he's actually quite good at the violin. He also has a bit of a crush on the concert master of the school orchestra.

@roo.bear: Let Go by Frou Frou. Don't ask me why, but I think it really would fit for your novel. :)

As for my character...*sighs* Okay, it's fanfiction, but I'll give it a shot.

Padme: Padawan to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Has a generally good working relationship with him, though they both grieve the death of Qui-Gon Jinn, who was a father figure to both of them. Suffering the pressure and the frustration of being the prophesized "Chosen One" who will "bring balance to the Force", and at times wishes the Council would simply be quiet about it -- she's willing to do her duty nonetheless, if only because she has no choice in the matter. Generally a sweet, mellow, gentle, compassionate young woman, but also incredibly headstrong, and not afraid of saying what she thinks. Her main goal in the story is to find out who tried to kill her friend, Sabe -- but she doesn't expect to find out about the Clone Army and the threat of the Sith. If anything, she's shocked. Her other goal is to investigate the strange dreams that she's having about Sidious' apprentice -- an apprentice he raised in secret in order to combat the Chosen One. She dreams most of all of making Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon proud -- but has a constant niggling fear deep down inside that no matter what she does, she'll never quite be good enough.

Mine's also a fanfiction. For Katekyo Hitman Reborn! the anime/manga. &gt;:
Hmm...secondary character. okay. It's set in the late seventeen hundreds.
Enzo Cavallone is the first boss of the large Cavallone mafia family. He is gentle and kind but very strong in and of himself, and extremely responsible. He is sympathetic and has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and is very soulful, though at times clumsy. He is sincere and very earnest. He is in love with the aloof, clever Alaude, a high-ranking member of the allied Vongola family. At first Alaude rejects the affection, but begins to accept it, and almost once surrenders to making love before suddenly walking off. After something happens to a relative whom Alaude very much cares for, though, Alaude returns and they become an item (though it's a whole lot more melancholy than it seems). However, someone else in the Vongola family also loves Alaude and is slowly gaining affection to the point of rivalry. Poor Enzo.
...Last note: Alaude's a man.

Alex Steward is a 16 year old that is bored by the grey life of the city, trapped in the routine. When he is transported to a magical world, he will think that he has found his chance to be happy, and to be a Hero. Sadly, he will soon learn that not everything magic is nice, and that he is still the same boy that he was in the city, and that beign a Hero has much more to it than having powerful magic, or wanting very much to be good. True Heros have to make choices, even when its hard.

I think... it's kind of a stretch, but I think you might like Cruel, by St. Vincent (the music video is on YouTube). It's about this family with no mother that kidnaps this woman and makes her be their mother. She kind of develops Stockholm Syndrome and wants to do what they ask of her, but she just can't, so they end up killing her. And there's this one part that goes: "You were the one waving flags in the air so they would see you", which makes me think of your character, because she kind of wanted this life she was thrust into, like she might have secretly romanticized it and also wanted a family. But in the end, it was harder than her fantasies led her to expect, and it's dangerous to romanticize any kind of life. I feel like it's darker than your story, but that's just what it made me think of.

My character is a 20-year-old, a junior in college, who is desperately trying to find what she wants to do with her life, and wants a degree but doesn't quite know why. What she doesn't realize is that you don't have to be confined to one career, and that college isn't for everyone. So in the meantime, she's experiencing some serious existential angst, and questioning where she fits in and how she's going to survive her own future.

First song that popped into my head was "She's Hearing Voices" by Bloc Party. http://youtu.be/uDXlyfu0C0s

I don't know how accurate it would be for that character, but the indecision she has makes me think of this song and how lost the person is in it.

Kalle is an extremely curious seventeen year old Swede living on a rather wealthy estate. A package comes to his family one day supposedly from an older brother he never knew he had, and he wants nothing more than to know what this means for him and his family. He never knew his own mother, and he's very skeptical of his own growing feelings for his tutor-turned best friend, who is also male. Through the course of this story, he will find our his true origins and find the courage to lead his family out from the secrets and lies that stand to destroy it.

The second story I'm planning for the last half of November stars a young woman who is as of now unnamed.

She lived in the city, had a job and an apartment, was generally enjoying being young and successful. Then she lost her job and was forced to move back in with her parents in the small town of her birth. It's a monumental blow to her self esteem and her identity, but she finds some semblance of peace reconnecting with the local priest with whom she was close as a girl. Now that she is older, however, those close friendly feelings turn into something more, and when he has to reject her advances on the grounds that it goes against his vows (though he actually does love her), it's the final straw. She gives herself over to deepest despair, and that's when the demon finds her...

Your story sounds very neat, by the way. (:

Okay, um, my character is a sweet, naive, and kind of just dumb girl who moves to the big city and somehow makes a name for herself in the indie theatre scene. She's met a man she adores and has been living with him for almost a year when he tells her he's going to relocate for his job, and he wants her more than anything to come with him, but he knows she won't -- she has too much going for her here, finally. (Wow, this kind of became about him. Maybe a song for the couple?)

For Owena, how about "Manifest Destiny" by Zola Jesus? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6kmqMSiFRM

Okay, how about a song for a guy who's a little insecure and always wears Doc Martens to make him a little taller. He can never stop fidgeting, so he's always either playing the piano or knitting, whichever is more convenient. He's lonely and feels trapped in his dorm room but is too shy to go meet anyone in the common room or at pub night, and he's madly in love with someone whom he has no chance with. (It's always like that, isn't it. :p)

This guy is reminding me of me when I was in college. Shy, always in my dorm, but yearning for more. My favorite album during that time was Half-Life by Tears in X-ray Eyes. Apparently they're not very well-known because I can't find any of the songs I want to suggest to you on youtube. Some of their songs are on their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/tearsinxrayeyes), including "Love Me for Five Minutes", which is my favorite. They appear to be on iTunes, though. "Nature's Valentines" and "Half-Life" were the other two songs I was going to suggest.

But I'm also feeling like "The Dumbing Down of Love" by Frou Frou would be a good match, and definitely easier to get ahold of.

He's malicious, sick, twisted. Truly evil. Last night, he murdered a child in my story, simply out of spite to teach my MC a lesson for not "minding his own business". But he's manipulative, charming, and oozes raw sex. My MC is repelled and drawn to him at the same time. I, myself, drift between thinking he's the coolest badass and hating him so much that I don't want to write him.

"Sadistic sociopath" makes me think of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcZNxfz4yaM" rel="nofollow">This Devil's Workday - Modest Mouse</a>. I think the wild creatures thing sort of fits with the feel of the song, too, but that could just be me.

My MC: Ezekiel Balfour Chalson. Son of a psychic; raised by his mother - his father left before he was born. He's charming but in a genuine way, not a sleazy way; he adores people and he adores making people laugh or clap even more; he's confident, but not arrogant. He's a theater major who has a habit of singing in public. Zeke's mostly an optimist - the silly one, the jester. He keeps up a sunny disposition and tries to focus the best in people. When his father is introduced to his life, it's shown that there's more to him than just the sunshine and smiling. He buries negative feelings deep, deep down and refuses to talk about them or deal with them. He carries a lot of resentment, for his father in particular. He's weaker than he makes himself out to be, but he puts on a good show so that no one will notice.

Antoine, a French (non-sparkling) vampire living in London in 1940. Smug and secretive. He is a good liar. He drinks human blood without any moral qualms by rationalizing that he needs it to survive. Really, he just gets a high off of snuffing out human life, like his own humanity was snatched from him.
Based on the year (1940), I wondered about Sing, Sing, Sing (Benny Goodman) -- the song gets really dark and wild with the drumming -- like the thrill a vampire might get from snuffing out human life!

My main character: Olivia, 14 years old, a selective mute. She has a very active mind and imagination, but shares it with no one, living in a pretty private world. She has no friends and a dysfunctional family. She likes writing to release her thoughts. She lives in a small town in Oregon. Time period is now.

@rainmom- For some reason I feel like something by Regina Spektor would be nice, maybe Eet or Fidelity. Just because her music has such an imaginative feel, and both would fit someone who seems like she cuts herself off from the world. If she ends up with a love interest, Fidelity especially.

My FMC: Adalee White, snarky superhero girl. Can't remember her past, product of an experiment in a supersoldier program. She's in her early twenties, and is holding off getting together with her love interest because she has a hard time trusting people. She lives alone and is currently on the run from the government with a bunch of other superheroes. She's unsentimental, tends towards violence more than diplomacy, and is not very feminine.

Mmm, he reminds me of 'Rainbow Veins' by Owl City, 'Too Weird Too Normal' by 42 Eternal, and maybe 'Marching Bands Of Manhattan' by Death Cab For Cutie. That last one sort of refers to affection for a specific person but I feel it could easily be expanded to mean the world. And the whole 'hermit in my own head' might fit?
I know that's three but I couldn't seem to find one that fit exactly, so there's a few. /analyzing this way too much

Uhm, Benjamin Wraith. Very idealistic and lawful good, and going through a lot of conflict because the government is corrupt and he thinks it should be by the people, for the people, and so on. Waiting on a girl who has relationship issues. He likes most people and persists in believe the best of them even when he's proven wrong. He's generally a bit insecure because he feels like he's not good enough to be the hero he should be.

My suggestion would be "Someone Else's Arms," by Mae. It's got a lot of conflict and waiting on someone to help him make decisions, plus Mae is a beautiful rock/acoustic band to listen to. c: If you ever get a chance, you should totally listen to their CD, "The Everglow." I think it might help your story out a lot!

Hrmm. Let's see- Mikael Tiraboschi. He's a good kid, but he doesn't always act like it. He's terrified of a lot of things and he's the kind you know that throws sarcasm out to hide his emotions or kill the silence. Mikael has to grow up from always being scared and letting others tell him what to do, to being a leader and making the hard decisions all on his own, in order to save the world. Ffffffffffff good luck, guys.

@chromadestino Hmmm...maybe No Roads Left by Linkin Park or What We Don't Know by Linkin Park?

My character in Gideon Vesper. She's a thirteen-year-old who slips into a coma after a car crash. She enters a dream world, and becomes apprenticed to a warrior named Freyja, who's much more than she appears to be. Gideon has a somewhat uncanny fascination with the strange and the paranormal. What she really wants is to escape from reality, which she feels is clipping her wings - thus, the dream world. She's blunt and won't hesitate to get into a fight. She tends be very selfish at times and doesn't think much of authority. Gideon tries to be polite, but her attempts usually fail. She can also be rather hotheaded at times, and rushes into things without thinking it through. She's not afraid to die, and embraces life and death. She believes in deciding your fate for yourself. However, inside she's just a scared and confused girl, who's been thrust into events far beyond her control. She tries to keep up a strong front, but sometimes she 'crashes and burns', so to speak.

I have, questionable taste 8'D So I kind of want to give you like a mini-list, and maybe I'll end up helping you with one of these?

Celebrity Skin- Hole, Bjork- Army of Me, What I've Done- Linkin' Park, Eve6- Rescue ?

My character's name is Justice, strictly Justice. She is a personification of the 8th Virtue;however, for most of the story she has no Virtue like powers or influence, so she is able to watch the interaction of Sins, Virtues, Saints and Divinities, like a human would, dealing with doubt and a judgmental mind. She's consistently conflicted from what she is being told and what she is seeing, attempting to restrict herself from seeing what is very obvious, and once accepting it spiraling in the wrong direction momentarily bitter and angry, only to come out on top with a feeling of awareness and knowing. Now self obliged to retain order in her chaotic world.

I feel like I cannot find something to exactly capture your character's personality, but "Eet" by Regina Spektor comes to mind. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMEpaVL_WsU&amp;ob=av2e]

Shepherd Caldera. He goes by Shep, but it doesn't really matter. Nobody talks to him anyway.
He lives a lonely life, alone in an apartment with his father who he rarely sees and rarely socializes with. Having little to no one to talk to, he retains a rather quiet and observant disposition. He watches the world around him, judging humankind as a whole based on the goods and bads he sees in people on the streets. He is an all-around pessimist about his own life, but steers far clear from depression. He tends to daydream every now and then about a better life or better things that he could have. The only joy he finds is in little things; he likes to believe that he goes about doing things in a "slightly more fun way than they were meant to be".

@Toxicjinx Well, the best song I could think of was:
"Those Who Remain" from Shadow of the Colossus.
It is a fantastic song, and its shifts from a depressing tone to an epic one, and then to a lower tone with the bells seem to represent your character quite well from my point of view, and it sounds like a really deep character. You deserve my congratulations if you manage to pull her off :D

My character's name is Wyvern, the founder of a powerful industry, focused in the art of instrumentation. He has found a new kind of metallic material, which has interesting bending properties. However, he is planning to use it to create flying, razor-sharp object, specialized in assault missions. He is planning to use them to terrorize the city for fun, and to eliminate the competition. The creation of these lethal object is secret, however, and no one is able to trace their origins to him. He evades all suspicions by pretending to be a wise, kind, innocent man.
Wyvern is a cunning and smart villain who is the main antagonist of my story, and only reveals himself as such in the very end of the novel, when he has already taken control of the city.

My Character's original name is Aalina though she changes it with each new life she takes on. An extended (very, very extended) lifespan as an unwilling vampire's familiar as left her bitter, spiteful, or at times apathetic towards other living beings. She's not brave; she's had opportunities to kill the vampire but was too afraid to take them and fail and face retribution, so instead she keeps running, trying intstead to just stay away. She has actively worked for the "dark side," and is pretty morally grey. She's strict and doesn't often socialize with people.

Um, if you need anything else, just reply saying so. I've never done anything like this before. D|

@xLookinGlass: For some reason, I thought of "Necessary Evil" by the Dresden Dolls - I guess the bitterness and cynicism? And then a kind of silly choice, "Abra Cadaver" by the Hives. I'm not sure if either of those really work.

Tony Malhotra is a loser. He's passive and fairly suggestible (in his defense, it's a job requirement), and he watches a lot of tv (or the future's equivalent to it). He has a long-running crush on a friend to which he has yet to admit. He literally rents his body for work (cyberpunk, yeah), and he would keep on drifting vaguely through life if a cult didn't choose him for a messiah. Yes, he would be played by Michael Cera despite the fact that he's half Indian.

The song "Idiot Box" by the Aquabats popped into my head once you mentioned he watches a lot of TV, though it could still work in a broader perspective in saying that he's 'diseased' by all the TV and 'mind-melting' stuff he's subjected himself to. As for a more serious suggestion (because the Aquabats are never too serious)... For how he's lost in life, I thought of the song "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum. I hope these work. c:

This young woman, Deonne Stevens, is a pretty extraverted person, loves music and arts, and is open to new experiences--though she does like to play it smart and have at least a small idea of what she's getting into. She's tough, confident, cheerful, and is kind of sassy too (I refuse to make her a stereotypical Sassy Black Woman). Being the oldest of five kids, she's used to being the big sister, role model, and protector, even for her roommate (the FMC). However, by the time she really enters the story, she finds that her roommate has gotten herself in way deep, but still standing pretty strong. She still wants to help her friend and protect her, but is torn with letting her stand on her own.

Perhaps this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL2ZwXj1tXM&amp;ob=av3n

My character... Lets see.
His name is Zack, and he's been dead for over two-hundred years. He died at the age of eighteen, due to a life-long illness. His entire life, he was believed to have died as an infant, and kept in the attic, because his parents were embarrassed by his condition.
Naturally, Zack is shy, even as ghost. He doesn't like to talk much, and spends most of his ghost-life in the attic, where he died, because that is where he feels most comfortable. He once dreamed of freedom, life in a different country, or town, even. After his death, he only dreamed of escaping his house, but found that he couldn't.
His spirit is generally angry, or sad. He rarely smiles, and has a distaste for any sort of mess. He also has grudge, for lack of a better word, against his parents, who died long ago, and doesn't take too well to being told what to do.

Not really sure if that explains him well. (Could have just said he was a pissed off spirit, who likes to make the lives of anyone who lives in his house difficult.)

siouxsie and the banshees - rhapsody?

my character is the 'captain' of a group of young delinquents, who are generally very non-aggressive; they're just misfits in a very competitive society, and they're living by their own rule. he's bipolar and quite religious, not because he really believes in any god, but because religion is the one "constant" thing in his life (he was raised catholic and the traditions comfort him).

his lover/fiancée went a bit brainwashed-insane a few months ago and brutally murdered a politician, then vanished into thin air, leaving my character a bit broken. he's slowly starting to get over it after convincing himself that his (ex-)lover is probably dead and anyway gone for good - when he finds out his lover is actually in charge of another 'gang', which is a lot more radical and violent.

the body count begins to rise, yet my mc can't stop loving the antagonist, desperately trying to make excuses for the killings so that forgiving would't be against his (quite strong) morals. the antagonist loves him as well, but has slided off the slippery slope a long ago, and calling him dangerously unstable would be an understatement. even despite the antagonist's direct attempts to kill his lover, the main character still goes back to him in the end (and probably gets eventually killed).

Lost (Club Mix) - Sunlounger ft Zara

Okay...how about another character then.
Daemon is a very tricky devil. He is passionate but his morals are very few. He was an aristocrat and fell in love with another aristocrat who had the same rebellious thoughts he did, but this woman--Elena--was much gentler. She was like a ray of sunshine anywhere she went. She got him to join the Vongola family, a vigilante Robin Hood-esque group, and introduced him to Alaude, who immediately caught his eye. He was torn between two loves, the sweet, generous Elena and the aloof, imperturbable Alaude, also brought into the family by Elena, who is Alaude's cousin. The Vongola grew and then the boss stopped trying to get stronger in order to keep peace; Daemon railed against this, saying they'd be brought down. Soon enough, the base was attacked and Elena was killed soon after turning down Daemon's proposal because she knew that he also loved Alaude. Daemon, thinking that Alaude would be angry at him for not keeping her safe and guilty over it, kept his distance awhile until Alaude takes a lover--the boss of an allied family--and eventually is unable to stay away. While he's really dedicated he's actually entirely unscrupulous and so, to force the boss of the Vongola to become strong, kills another allied family's boss who is very close to Giotto. So...
I use "Merry of the Blood" by D'espairsRay for him already but I need something fresh!

Jack Bloom is a failing actor plagued with neuroses. He's struggling to gain some sort of recognition from the world, but the universe seems to be conspiring against his attempts to break into the film industry. He is jealous of his sister, Emily, a renowned author, as well as his actor friends, who consistently achieve more fame than he does. He has a very mordant and sardonic wit that he views the world through, and all of his chapters contain his humorous asides about the world. He is very self-deprecating, and doesn't appreciate himself much. He is a romantic at heart, and wants very much just to be loved as he loves others.

Thomas is the son of a rich movie director and young model/actress. He was sent away to boarding school to keep him out of the way of their messy, high profile divorce.
"Self Machine" by I Blame Coco is something I found that could fit. Basically, it's about a lonely robot--the robot n this case being your character who tries to be emotionally cold. I hope this suits. c:

(Let's see if somebody actually gives me a song this time.)
Oiserdi is an unusual person. Physically, he looks extreme and creepy, but he's very much like a lonely puppy dog. He is extremely extraverted and yet has no understanding of other people's emotions, easily confused by people who suddenly break out into strong emotion. Simplistic, he tends to think either people are on the same level with him (they rarely are) or that they are idiotics (only sometimes the case). He has a firm belief in justice since it's part of his job to carry it out, yet he will let his boredom or anger get in the way of seeing it out impartially. He has a firm love of games, since he rarely plays them, and this next game (what the story's about) is his biggest. However, with his growing attachment to the FMC, he finds himself regretting that he's let things get out of hand.

Eddie Tuppence was born to noble family in the 17th century in England just before the English Civil War. He has an advanced power that allows him to age at a slower rate (he currently looks 73 despite being over 400 years old) and that heals any unnatural (non-aging or fundamental processes of the human body) harm. He has an overdeveloped sense of humor to compensate for his experiences over the last 400 years and to balance out his relationship with an immortal who he has shared the last 300 years with.

Gahhh DX I'm sorry if my reccomendatiosn are lame I'm kind of terrible at this, but I'm going to give it a go!
A lot of the Repo! The Genetic Opera songs, although super plot specific seem like they would have the tone you could possibly be going for. Another could be Dangerous by the Parlotones, Hell by the Squirel Nut Zippers, they have a very fun feel, kind of matching with his sense of humor. Iuno! Just trying. Sorry if I totally missed the mark.

Wow. Like almost ALL of the reccomendations I got were like super amazing and I TOTALLY put them on my playlist for my Nanoing, I figured I'd list under another character to keep things fresh &lt;3

My characters name is Pride, Sin Pride to be more specific she is the entity in it's whole entirity of Vainty. A servant to a court of Divinie individuals she runs about the human world causing chaos where ever she goes. She is super confidant, obviously, but very accomplished and does in fact have bragging rights. She's also the most mature out of the Sins, understanding the Virtue's tourtured nature, and understanding that there is a fair balanace required in good and evil, and NOT one over powering the other. She also has a romance with Humility, her oppisite Virtue (partially because she loves to talk about herself and Humility hates to talk about himself so they can talk about her for as long as she wants /isshot)

I'm thinking "Everybody Loves Me" by OneRepublic. There's another one on the edge of my mind, but I can't remember what it is atm.

My character, John, is an average sort of guy. He has rusty blonde hair with that intentionally messy style about it, brown eyes, and hipster glasses. He generally wears plaid button down shirts and jeans. He's a reporter, vegan, and very loyal. He can never leave someone in a sticky situation unless he's certain they're going to be okay. Once he gets involved in an issue, he needs to see it through to its resolution. He has a bitter ex-girlfriend named Chloe who's not particularly in touch with her emotions and who tries to cover up fear or insecurity with bitter sarcasm and snarkiness. I haven't decided why they split up yet. I plan to have John be one of those 'average joe has hand in saving the world' types after I make the entire US government disappear and the nation descends into chaos. There may or may not be aliens/extraterrestrial forces behind the disappearance.

She is slowly succumbing to Stockholm syndrome under the captivity of an alien/paranormal creature.

This might be a bit off, not sure, but "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones
And of course "Hopelessly Devoted to You" from Grease comes to mind for the Stockholm syndrome.

My male protagonist, Dominik, is the sixteen-year-old Crown Prince of the German Empire during an alternate history Steampunk WWI. He is decidedly avoiding the war through the guise of an air pirate lord. He could care less about the state of the empire and really doesn't wan to be in the global spotlight. His character has a bit of a <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HeelFaceRevolvingDoor" rel="nofollow">face heel revolving door</a>; he starts out kind and a bit naive, but the the murder of his father sends him on a dark path until he is brought back by a good slap of reasoning from the female protagonist. He eventually finds himself sucked into the war by a force more powerful than angsty teenage princes, which lands him in an even more stressful situation: the only way to stop his murderous cousin and, in turn, the war, is to team up with five other crazy teenagers.

Alright, Xelsain, I'm sorry to do this... but for some reason as soon as I read your post I could NOT get away from this song. It just fits too perfectly. Or I think it does. Either way, I can't even get a good read on a second choice, so for you I give you 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance.

My character is "Black" Jack Reach. He's big, and he does what he thinks he should. Don't agree with him? Too damn bad, because he's going to do it anyway. The nickname is from a seedy past spent in low rent gambling halls and poker tables. A fellow player was drunk and came up with it, and despite the fact that Jack committed some fair amount of bodily harm to the poor offender, the nickname stuck within his social circle. He's not good, he's not evil, he's just a regular dude with a very dark past and a lot of scars- emotionally and physically.

My character is named Dee. She is hard working, and around the age of twenty. Dee strives to protect her little brother, Blake, and her country from the war, and she leads one side. However, she barely sleeps due to the pressure of the war. She can heal, and is overall very generous. At times she can be strict and irritable, but she puts everyone she loves before herself. Especially Blake, she is hard on her teenage brother, but she would give her life to protect him.

@ Emelyasunny: Dee made me think of "Burn Out Brighter" by Anberlin. She sounds very selfless; the line "The more I give, the more I see, this life's not about me" reminds me of her.

My character's called Corvus. He's young and curious, widely regarded as a brilliant chemist. He has been thrust into a position of power that he doesn't care for and doesn't believe he deserves; his head is far away, scanning the universe for answers and longing for his "home". Still, he's very friendly and commits (almost too much) to all the responsibilities given to him. He lives for his younger sister, who embodies the innocence he's managed to keep. Because of his love for her, he thinks that the world around her must be a utopia, and will do anything to keep her pure. In keeping her safe from everything, however, his sense of justice causes him to make rash, unfair, and sometimes violent decisions. When he's not figuring things out fast enough, he's prone to mental breakdown and reverts to childish refusal. He suffers from violent flashbacks and deals with them by concocting his own (extremely strong) drugs when he just can't take it anymore. Keeping things balanced and in perspective is not something he can handle.

At first, Mekhora is fussy, a bit high-strung and a little cowardly, but after he joins a nunnery and befriends other girls, he starts feeling like he belongs and he embraces his caring, nurturing side by joining the war - as a nurse.

Seems like Daniel is awakening to find that he needs to take control of his own life or always find himself pushed forward.

For some reason I sought out a slow song, as I envisioned a scene in a movie with Daniel sitting on a bench somewhere thinking things through, with music softly playing over the pictures.
I found this one: "My Fault, Your Mistake" by Lex Land (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnBhCck4odc), which deals with just this - someone breaking away from her parents.

My character is Eric Winter. He's a mid-twenties bartender from downtown Toronto, CA, that has just been thrust into a world of mythology and fantastical beings when he discovers he is possessed by the spirit of an ancient warrior dedicated to fighting evil.

Now Eric has just had about the worst day of his life, almost getting himself killed by something from out of a nightmare with people being gobbled up and torn to pieces around him by things that by any rights should not be real. In spite of this he has pulled through, and now tries not to think too hard on what he has seen or experienced, as he sits in the dimly lit room of his small bachelors pad with his head in his hands, exhausted and thoroughly beat-up.

I am curious what kind of music would fit him in such a situation.

Okay, meet Julian. He's dead. When he was alive, he had numerous problems. When he was six, his mother was killed in front of him in a home invasion; that kind of screwed up. He became a pyromaniac, and was put in prison twice for arson. After he got out the second time, he decided to pull his life together and enrolled in community college. Soon after, he met the love of his life, a guy named Avery. He and Avery and his best friend of like fifteen years moved into an apartment together, which Julian "accidently" set on fire. He died in the fire. So...I guess this song would be depressing. xD

Meet Ian Feldman. He's fifteen, a DJ in his spare time, a super cool dude all of the time (At least, in his mind). Despite his cool, "I don't care about anything" exterior, he hides some inner insecurities and turmoil. He loves techno music, so bonus if his theme has an electronic feel to it. She doesn't voice her own dreams and hopes very often, even though they exist and they mostly do not involve her sister or her father. Inwardly, she longs to break away from them and the tiny town they live in, but she feels bound by a kind of "duty" to her late mother, in the form of caring for her family and being there for them. Raquel is also the kind of person who stifles everything bad that's ever happened to her or her sister, and tries to pretend like it didn't happen, even though it's obviously causing turmoil.

@ Gilly Bean-I think Ian would like "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her" by Simon &amp; Garfunkel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8ijIWH8EiY&amp;feature=fvsr It doesn't have an electronic feel at all, but it really describes the feeling of being in love with an amazing person (even if their name isn't Emily.)

Raquel DeLacy is a senior in high school who lost her mother in 9/11. She is trying desperately to keep her fractured family together. In a sense, she has to be the "mother" to both her younger sister and her father. Raquel is intensely loyal and somewhat of a doormat. I think of Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson when I read that. Though "Nobody's Home" by Avril works too.
My final answer though, to go less mainstream, is "Swan Song" by Within Temptation.

My character is named Kazuya Saito. He's foul-mouthed, quick to act violent and not exactly cuddly. At age 17 he's pretty jaded about people and only gets along with people who he can fight with and who fight back. In reality though he's broken inside; the death of his parents in a huge fire and separation from his beloved big sister has caused him to become guarded and caused him to react to everything with violence and anger. He is starting to open up to the female detective Tsukkuyomi, who might be as broken though she copes differently, but the recent murder of his sister, and being one of the ones to find the body, has caused him to become even more angry than before. His ability to be rational might be at stake.

This isn't my main character, but rather a favorite RP character; Rikyu Minami (copied and pasted from my RP application)

Rikyu’s kind of a delinquent. Likes to prank and mess with his school’s technology (including the emergency fire showers in the girl’s bathroom), but never does anything absolutely despicable. He’s a nice guy underneath though. He lost his sister Kai who was pretty much everything to him when he was younger. But instead of becoming emotionless and a sad sack like many others, he decided to live out his life to the fullest like she would have wanted. He usually wears black headphones (for an unknown reason), but they’re not always on his head. He is sometimes (more often than not) caught up in fights, so for this reason he wears fingerless gloves with short brass knuckle spikes. His fighting style emphasizes the saying "A good offense is the best defense."

For some reason, I'm thinking "Loser" by Beck. Or maybe "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett?

This character, let's call him Jack, is an FBI agent, and a goofy, cheerful guy on the surface. He's very good at investigative work, and is cunning and creative. But he has a dark secret which would get him in trouble if anyone knew about it, and would likely lead him to be persecuted.
...Later on in the story, he murders someone, leading the MCs to think he's in league with the villain... but he has an agenda of his own, and winds up helping them. He escapes justice for his own crimes, however, and disappears until the very end of the book—when there is a, WHAM, SHOCKING revelation about his motives!

What comes to mind are actually two songs.
"Black Velvet" by Crystal Bowersox/Lots of others
"Back to Black" by Amy Whinehouse

My female MC is named Lydia. She was kidnapped at the age 4 and was able to escape at 20. The guys who had kidnapped her got a not guilty plea or whatever you call it. During this time she fell head over heels in love with the cop who was working her case. While she and the cop were planning things like what they'd name there kids, marrige, etc. she got kidnapped again by the same men. Now almost 20 years after her second kidnap she gets found by her fiancee cop and his team. During this time she had 6 kids and was abused sexually, physically, and emotionally. She now suffers from Stockhold Syndrome. (where they believe that everything is there fault and that they deserve what their captors do them)

"There's mending for my soul, an ending to this fear
Forgiveness for a man who was stronger
I was just a little girl, but I can't go back."

My character's name is Orianna. She's the third of 12 sisters, and is almost painfully shy. She never says anything bad about anyone, but can be swayed (i.e. manipulated) very easily. She loves her family and is very innocent and naive.

Ooo this is a tough one but I am going to give it a try.

The closest song I can think of is Original of the Species, by U2 which I could see as something someone might sing to said girl by her father or father figure, perhaps to make her feel better

My Character:

Aspen: A fifteen year old lesbian Lilin (succubus) with curly brown hair. She is kind, confident, passionate about everything she does and loves those around her without abandon. She will stand up to bullies, but is moved to tears if someone she loves is in pain. A nurturer and free spirit. :)

Sorry, I can't help it. I watched Glee today, and the only song that I can think of is their cover of "I Kissed a Girl." (I've never heard the original song, but the cover was amazing.)

Not a NaNo, but here's the character of my main novel, a high fantasy:

Fifteen year old Becca is fiery and bold, doesn't really care too much for authority. She's an orphan, a peasant (yes, cliche, I know), and she joins a rebellion that's fighting against Equally-Cliched Evil Tyrannical Government.
She's been through rough times, but she's not closed-off or anything. She's pretty verbal about how she feels. All Becca wants is to keep her family and friends safe, and to get revenge.
The book also has lots of sword-fighting, war, and the like. So action-songs are appreciated. Thanks!

Adam Cowley is a middle-aged, amateur detective who really just fails at everything he does. He has occasional moments of brilliance but for the most part he is inept at his job. He is like a bulldog, though, and hangs on by his teeth to whatever he does even if it takes forever to do it with all of the mistakes. Later, at the end, he discovers the horrible dark side within himself.

The first thing that came to mind is Papa Don't preach by Madonna

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkxqxWgEEz4&amp;ob=av2e

and because I love it, Glee version

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkxqxWgEEz4&amp;ob=av2e

While it isn't HER parents who hate her and are upset (well I don't know, you didn't say how they felt) I think the message of the song pretty well suits how I would imagine her feeling. And if you aren't familiar with Glee, the girl signing in the video is 14/15 and pregnant, her parents kicked her out and she went from being a popular cheerleader to getting made fun of by almost everyone, so I think it kind of fits.

:)

My character is Rory, she is fifteen years old from Egypt but living in the US. She is extremely smart, serious, and a bit shy until you get to know her. She was injured in an explosion when she was five, doctors said she would be lucky to walk again, she runs everyday now. She is fairly skilled in curses and also is learning divination, both traditional crafts for her people. She lost her brother in the explosion that injured her (and her mother). She believes strongly in her goddess Bast and as a loveable 30 pound cat name Raja. :-)

An experienced soldier in the Tiparian military, gifted with reflexes almost as quick as those of a Zarigaso (a species of intelligent hunter alien that composes most of the planet's population). Like most Tiparians, her mindset is distrustful of those of other nations. She hides it to be diplomatic, but she really does have an inflated opinion of herself.

While decorated for her service, Cielhord has received scorn for refusing to undergo the risky process of psionic conditioning, unlike most of her other human colleagues. Psionic enhancement increases reflexes and grants immense powers, but within 30 Earth years, mental degradation turns the enhancee into a mindless weapon. Her father was one of only a few unaffected by the mental degradation, and he considers her an idiot for turning it down, thinking her vulnerable on the battlefield without it.

Of course, Alva doesn't consider herself vulnerable at all. She holds no extra hatred for the Zarigaso, but considers them impossible to understand by humans, so she doesn't try. She does hate her father, a high-ranking general, for inspiring Tiparia with a cultish nationalism that makes their soldiers willing to do anything they're ordered to do, even to the point of suicide attacks. She believes her father to enjoy watching his soldiers die, and considers her commander, Colonel Cromwell, to be her real father, as she confides in him in a way she feels she can't with anyone else.

Cielhord fights because she feels safer on the front lines, facing the action, than staying at home and not knowing how the war is going. That knowledge gives her peace and drives her forwards, and no matter how bad the situation, she considers being kept in the dark to be worse than seeing the carnage in front of her. She dreams of a time beyond war, but only when she's feeling reflective instead of cynical. For now, she sees no end to it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFBzZfxkWUg "This Is War" by 30 Seconds To Mars (that video isn't the full song, but there's better versions in the sidebar. I just like this version, lol)

Joy is really hurt and closed off after losing her whole family to the werewolf attack that turned her and being imprisoned after her turning. She seems to be all rage and anger and stubbornness. She's never met someone she won't be belligerent to and she's too much for most people to handle. She only has a couple of friends but inside there's still a scared, hurt little girl who just wants to be saved and loved and will never quite get there. (Basically, she lives the Broken Bird trope.) She looks <a href="http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Alexandra+Daddario+Evening+Italian+Fashion+AOHIYoPPpUul.jpg" rel="nofollow">like</a> <a href="http://www.vybzmagazine.com/wp-content/gallery/Alexandra-Daddario-Sexy-Dress-Hugs-Her-Curves-In-NYC/Alexandra-Daddario-Sexy-Dress-Hugs-Her-Curves-In-NYC-02.jpg" rel="nofollow">this</a> and is a cage fighter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9glvh2dyNo&amp;feature=related "This Love, This Hate" by HU! The chorus of that song came to me for some reason! And I haven't listened to that song in /ages/ I don't know why it made me think of your character. :O And I think of "The Lonely" by Christina Perri http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO4e4nCYBEo Hope either of these are good. :)

Sawyer is young and naive, but entirely too wise at the exact same time. In my mind "Paradise" by Coldplay describes her awesomely. She is the only one who can save an entire magical realm with the help of her friends and her mother has passed and she has a crush on her new best friend and she is almost positive he'll never like her back. She's scared/hurting/insecure but at the same time she fights and displays strength... She's a very girly girl, but she's not by any means a damsel in distress.

@RobWeb13 I agree whole-heartedly with Paradise - Coldplay. It totally fits. If i had to suggest another song.. hmm... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TVramXDRqQ (All You Wanted - Michelle Branch) comes to mind.

Jaycee is scared and cowardly, and completely aware of the fact that she is, by far, the weakest out of her friends. She doesn't specifically like to be told what to do, but prefers it to making her own choices, because she knows her own decisions aren't very honorable ones. Throughout the story, she comes to learn an assassin is her brother, and her parents get murdered, and she becomes, not brave, but very reckless and volatile. She's convinced that she's bad because her brother is, and strugglies with the idea that she's capable of everything he is. She starts to turn violent and bitter and even though she desperately wants to be good and happy, she feels compelled to seek revenge and decides it's her fate to be like her brother.

Brenna is tough on the outside, very independent and unforgiving. Her mother committed suicide when she was a toddler, and her dad became an alcoholic after her death, abusing Brenna as well. She sees both her parents as cowards and refuses to feel any sympathy for them. She lives by her own rules, has a firm belief that the only good Fae is a dead Fae, and ends up very confused when she ends up working with a group of Fae or part-Fae creatures to bind the Tithe, a contract made every seven years to keep the Dark Fae from harming humans. She ends up, very reluctantly, falling for Aedhan, a former prince of the Light Fae, and tries her damnedest to stop it from happening. Underneath it all, she's more vulnerable than she's willing to admit. Aedhan can see it, and that bothers her to no end.

Going Under, by Evanescence, maybe? It relates a lot to being vulnerable on the inside, in my opinion.

Celeste is the main character in my story, and she lost her mother in a car crash when she was eight, not even knowing who her father was. She's very reluctant, a trouble-maker, but on the inside she cares a lot about the people around her, and she can go soft in the right moments. She begins in the story as weak, but as she climbs in experience she becomes a good fighter, strong, and with a very snappy attitude. The only she cares about is her flock, Dylan and Daniel, and getting her two original friends, Fletcher and Owen, back from the Institute. Celeste, despite her name, is a lot more boyish and powerful than she seems.

Hmm..."O Death" comes to mind.

Travis Malone was brought up by an abusive excuse for a father, along with his little sister Gemmy. When they were in their preteen years, their father eventually threw them out after a shouting match/beating between Gemmy and their father. Travis had intervened. Personality-wise, Travis tends to be friendly and outgoing...social and talkative. Sometimes, though, he'll remember the treatment he'd gotten from his father, particularly being called useless. That tends to drive him to immense anger, as does anyone that dares to hurt his friend Spencer.

My MMC is a hitman with Antisocial Personality Disorder. He has a very ugly history - he was abused as a child, was diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder as a child, was a bully, had sex with his sister, and was guilty of war crimes. He's a rich boy, and gets away with pretty much everything. Of course, he ends up having an off-day on the job and ends up thinking with his dick, and almost gets shot. He ends up indebted to the singer he tried to kill and the two end up falling for each other - she falls for him in that she's legit attracted to him and feels free, and he's attracted only to the possibility of controlling a woman so beautiful, smart and independent. He finds her to be a challenge and a welcome change from the other women he's screwed around with before.

Muse- Stockholme Syndrome? I am actually rather stumped here.

My MC is a twelve-year-old girl. She's always known she's different- she can put her mind in the internet, and control it from the inside rather than the outside. She kind of has a reputation for being a trouble maker, and can be rather stuck up as well; not everyone can control the internet, after all.
In reality, she's a very nice person, she's just misunderstood. Everyone thinks she's a geek for loving the Internet so much, when in reality she's a Micromancer, a very rare type of sorcerer. She's also the type of girl you can trust; until you anger her, that is. She acts mainly for herself, though if it's for a friend, it's worth it. She won't save a bunch of strangers, though, if she can more easily save herself.
The best part about her: SHE'S A NOVELIST. AND A POET. :D I just had to throw that one in. It kinda suits her, too.
