K-pop

I started listening to kpop the day after the forum wipe last year - fitting! I'm growing a bit apart from the fandom (music fandom never seemed like my sort of thing, anyway) but I still love kpop itself. I'm big on good vocals and melody and songs that catch my interest instantly, and kpop has always been the easiest genre to find that in I've ever known. I like Super Junior, Big Bang, B2ST, CN Blue, SNSD, G.NA, SISTAR, TRAX, Infinite, FT Island, IU, and After School. There are a lot of groups I've been meaning to check out, but..so much music, so little time. Anyone else like these? Other groups or artists you'd like to recommend? (And out of curiousity, do you consider yourself part of any fanclub?)

Ooooh, I love me some KPop too! I love SNSD, but I also listen to Miss A and Dal Shabet. I have to admit, I like my KPop sugary and sweet sounding. I keep meaning to check out more bands, but I sort of drift between being obsessed with KPop and JPop. I may have to check out some of those bands at some point too!

Right now I'm hooked on Boyfriend, MBLAQ, and TEEN TOP.

I'm a huge fan of K-pop! I listen to a lot of the same stuff as you do (Super Junior, BB, B2ST, CN Blue, SNSD, Infinite, AS). I'm a long-time Shinhwa fan and I would absolutely recommend them. Let's see, who else? BoA, f(x), Brown Eyed Girls, Miss A, Rainbow, MBLAQ, Shinee, 2PM, U-kiss, Block B, K.Will, Younha, 8Eight, V.O.S., M.C. the Max, and on and on the list goes. I guess some of those aren't really "K-pop" per se, but I recommend them all anyway!

Re: K-pop

Yaaaay K-Pop! I am sort of tragically obsessed, according to my sister, though I haven't delved too deeply into it thus far. When I'm writing, I have the odd inability to listen to much English music without getting frustrated, so I outsource to foreign genres as a whole, or just go the classical or trance route.

K-Pop is my favourite, though. My top three artists would have to be SNSD, SHINee, and CN Blue, in that order. *Dying as The Boys is delayed further* :'(

Also a fan of Kara, T-ara, f(x), Super Junior (and their subgroups, especially SuJu-M), and 2NE1. I like songs from practically every other group mentioned here, so I won't list it off. :)

I consider myself a Sone and Shawol, and am hopelessly in love with Taeminnie.
Gotta say, though, 2PM has beautiful men.

...and the post cut off what I was saying. :/

Anyways...I started getting into k-pop 2 years ago, and I've been obsessed ever since. My top 5 groups would have to be Shinhwa, SS501, FT Island, BEAST, and Infinite. I haven't been too largely addicted to girl groups yet, but I've recently started watching SNSD videos and they might be the only girl group where I can name all the members and match them to faces. ^^;

I've been into k-pop for years now; my favourite band is still TVXQ, although of course now JYJ tie with them since the split (Jaejoong will always have my crazy fangirl heart). I usually know what's doing well in the k-pop charts but never what is going on in the English ones. Other favourites would include Sunny Hill, FT Island, MBLAQ, U-KISS and B2ST.

I'm pleased there are so many other fans out there and I know that k-pop will dominate my nano playlist this year.

I'd consider myself a fan as I buy the albums and some merchandise of DBSK and JYJ, but I'm not part of their fan club/cafe.

Cool, a thread about Kpop! I love B2ST and f(x) the most; they're my favorite groups---but I also love Super Junior, SHINee, SNSD, 2NE1, etc. (Mostly SMTown artists). I also happen to like some songs from other groups. Kpop gets me through the day, and helps me through homework too.

It's funny how I used to hate Kpop and thought I would never like it, but now I love it to death and I'm eating my own words, all thanks to Super Junior M.

Whoo! Last year I was introduced to k-pop at the very end of November, so I didn't get a chance to participate in the k-pop talk here in the forums much at all. Anyways, I am now a huge, full-fledged k-pop fan. I'm in love with Super Junior, SHINee, Beast, U-Kiss, and Big Bang, and I really love B1A4, Infinite, Dalmatian, FT Island, CN Blue, and so on. My sister and I are the kind of people that buy as much of our music as we can, and in the last year we've spend almost $200 on k-pop. Egad. But that was us trying to buy all the old stuff and new stuff, so it's slowing down now XD I consider myself an ELF, a Shawol and a B2uty, and maybe a KissMe. But since I find those titles ridiculously lame, I try not to use them ;)

Anyways, if you're a fan (which obviously everyone here is) feel free to message me, because I am tragically low on k-pop friends. Suggestions will come later, I suppose.

I listen to pretty much everything kpop, sometimes obsessing over that song or another. I'm a fan of few groups (namely ZE:A and Boyfriend) but that doesn't mean I listen only to their music. Tbh, I prefer girlgroups' songs? Easier to listen to or something.

Although now my earcandies are Infinite's Paradise and Super Junior's A-cha. This will change in a few days I bet, when new songs are released. XD

I'm more familiar with J-pop, but I recently got into SNSD! I love their dancing =) I seem to only like a few specific songs of theirs though: Genie, Hoot, Show! Show! Show!, Run Devil Run, and Pop! Pop! Visual Dreams (seriously one of my favorite songs ever!) are my favorites. I think I get turned off by their super super cutesy stuff (cutesy dancing/posing included) and am looking for songs with a more adult/dance beats kind of feel. I also dislike ballads across the board, so that rules out a lot of their other stuff, haha.

I would love some K-pop recommendations that are less sugary than SNSD. But I'm also interested in any groups that have some awesome dance MVs like SNSD!

Lifelong kpop fan here!
There's the typical SNSD ("Genie"... yes.), Infinite, Big Bang (mmm TOP), 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls ("Drunk on Sleep" = amazing), TVXQ ("Bolero," "Love in the Ice," "Why Did I Fall in Love With You?" are SO good!) , SHINee (Key = LOVE), etc., which I mostly enjoy. 2PM is fabulous - "Heartbeat," "Like a Movie," "Tired of Waiting," and "Without U" are a few of my favorites (though I think "Hands Up" was a terrible song). Basically all of Epik High's songs are fabulous, especially "Fallen Blossom," "Pieces of You," "1 Minute 1 Second" and "Umbrella."

I'm also very fond of SG Wannabe (I have all of their albums :D ), VOS, December, 2AM, Davichi, and other ballad groups. Oh, and k-indie! Nell and Toy are great.

Summary of kpop = pretty boys, hot voices, crazily addictive songs and dances.

Thank goodness I found this.

I love K-pop just a few months ago and it's all because of one song that kept repeating in my head. I finally gave up and google the lyric just to find a band that finally dragged me to the K-pop world.

I'm currently listening to MBLAQ, B2ST (BEAST) and 2NE1, haven't try anything else since I'm not really fond of Super Junior and I'm actually more familiar with Jpop and Jrock. Any recommendations?

Re: K-pop

K-pop is a very new thing for me listening wise. And it is entirely the fault of the friend who recently introduced me to Super Junior. The thing is, I'm synesthetic. Now normally, this means that I smell/taste music. And a lot of my music tastes has to do with whether it tastes good or not. But occasionally, I get physical sensation associated with music (one of the most common being basically light tapping feelings associated with the music). What I discovered is that Super Junior pretty consistently does this, but on a level that is pleasant in a "feeling the music" sort of way, as opposed to many of the things that do this where it feels like the music is trying to beat me up. I've been branching out a little bit beyond Super Junior (I have a growing like for SHINee and B1A4, fueled by the same friend).

My favorites are probably Super Junior and the subgroups Super Junior KRY and Super Junior M. To some extent, the seedling of the idea for the novel that I am planning to write this year came out of two Super Junior music videos and the connected taste/smell/sensation associations: "Don't Don" and "U."

I wouldn't be surprised if I end up liking more K-pop as time goes on though, as this is similar to how my fondness for J-pop started, and it took me a while to move beyond the first band that I liked there as well.

Oh. Kim KyuJong's Yesterday is the best of the SS501 solo efforts (personal opinion), but HyunJoong's "Lucky Guy" is good, too.

*trying to remember what's on my playlists...* Oh. U-Kiss's Neverland is entirely too fun, too.

Hey, I have a question for the die hard KPoppers. I'm sorta new/casual on this scene, so I don't know ... why do I keep hearing about "comeback" albums or singles? Like, Kim Hyun Joong (from SS501) has had at least three "comeback" singles in the last two years. Is this a term I'm not familiar with?

(And where the crap can I find Park Jungmin's solo stuff in the US? Gah!)

Re: K-pop

Comeback just means coming out with a new release. They usually have comeback stages on music performance shows to promote their new album until they end promotions. Usually there's a lot of hype for comebacks especially when top artists/groups haven't release anything in a long time and their fans are left waiting for so long. There are some groups that have only released a new album once a year. (SHINee please come back soon T__T)

My original great loves were DBSK though, their pre-split output is some of the most solid k-pop ever imo (I still support both JYJ/DBSK). I also really like Beast, Infinite and Miss A, and I listen a lot to Secret, SHINee, Big Bang, Block B, Rain, F.T Island, 4minute... K-pop is my happy place, basically.
I really love Korean hip-hop too :D Epik High obviously, Dynamic Duo, SAN E, Simon D, Kebee, Eluphant...

I'm not a member of any fanclubs atm, and I'm not super involved in fandom, but I do try to keep up with it when I have the time, on livejournal, tumblr and in some forums :3

I used to be absolutely obsessed with kpop but now I just like listening to it.
Currently, my four husbands (only Korean) include Kyuhyun from SJ, Doojoon from B2ST, Kim Soohyun (not k-pop but the korean entertainment industry) from Dream High, and Junhyung from B2ST. I adore 2NE1 and Yurisangja, amd yurisangja's song "May I Love You" makes me want to cry, every time.
I had an SG-WANNABE phase in '07, and a Kim Jong Gook stage in '07, Lee-ru phrase... and I could go on and on about how my boyband obsessions went from g.o.d.-&gt;super junior-&gt;dbsk-&gt;super junior-&gt;ss501-&gt;big bang-&gt;2pm-&gt;b2st hohoho/

I used to be major into kpop, but I'm much, much less into it now. Instead, I listen to more underground and hip-hop artists like Nell, 10cm, Verbal Jint, and recently, Epik High and Tablo. Also love Alex from Clazziquai, Leessang, Hwayobi, and so many others. :) My first kpop group was F.T.Island (You're Beautiful, anyone?), and I still love them so much. Hong ki's voice is beautiful and so emotionally-taught! Oh, and project group Clover! They're great :)

I also like 2NE1, Girls Generation (shocker to like both, right?) and SuJu. They're all pretty good, though, but those are my favorites. But I'm mostly a Showol &lt;3

Re: K-pop

Either one is correct. When a singer is done promoting a single/album and goes into a hiatus and then returns with something new, that's a comeback. The singer could have just come back from Japan, for example, after promoting their music for a while at that country and being away from music shows in Korea too.

In addition to comeback stages, there's also goodbye stages on TV shows too. And there's rookie stages and there's hero stages on MNet's M-Countdown, haha.

It was such a good drama. :) Lee Seung-gi's other drama, Shining Inheritance, was really good too. Speaking of Lee Seung-gi, his new album just came out! You should go listen to it!

Map the Soul is seriously such a great song. Epik High is always good on repeat.

As for favorite bands... I love love love Super Junior most of all, but DBSK, f(x), Brown Eyed Girls, 2NE1, and U-Kiss are also very near to my heart. Terenewen is a huge fan of SNSD, too.

Re: K-pop

I love K-pop. I've been listening to it for as long as I can remember. The first group I listened to was H.O.T. Then, I got into Brown Eyes, UN, and BoA. I also listened to many OSTs from different dramas; my favorites being the ones from My Girl. Afterwards though, I got into other music for a few years and returned to K-pop 3 years ago (still listening to it in the present). I'm a fan of many groups (Brown Eyes, UN, DBSK, JYJ, Suju, 2ne1, Big Bang, f(x), SHINee, SNSD, Wonder Girls, T-ara, Kara, Supernova, Ss501, FT Island, CN Blue, BEAST, BEG, U-KISS, MBLAQ, 2PM, 2AM, Miss A, December, Epik High, etc.) but my current top favorite, as of now, is SHINee. I love their songs, and each member is so lovable in their own ways. Of the newer groups from last year, The BOSS and Infinite were the ones who caught my attention. This year though, Boyfriend caught my attention. Their songs are quite catchy. :) For the female artists, BoA is my favorite. I really admire her. For groups, my tops would be 2ne1, f(x), T-ara, and Miss A.

I also like listening to C-pop, HK-pop, and J-pop. :D

Hey all! I'm hireadd's co-author and GOD DO I LOVE KPOP. I have so many writing playlists full of kpop now. It's fantastic for being productive or just grooving out, and it always puts me in a good mood. :DD

My favorite groups are Super Junior, SHINee, SNSD (...yeahhh I'm an SM-bias...), Simon D, Brown-Eyed Girls... I have a huge soft spot for B1A4, and I'm really looking forward to AA's debut this week! :DD It will probably distract me from my novel...

...luckily I'm writing a romance novel about Kpop. :PP

YAY k-pop thread. XD

I've just managed a five-year dream (in part, at least) - I was at the JYJ concert in Spain on the weekend. I still can't believe it. *_* TVXQ/JYJ are my favourites! (Probably forever. This being five and a half years of obsession by now and still showing no signs of diminishing... ^^;)

I need to branch out and listen to more - I've not been paying attention much the past year. Do any of you have any reccomendations for things which have come out recently?

Re: K-pop

Oh man. K-pop is probably the biggest part of my music library (and that's saying something because I have a hell of a lot of rock, punk, metal, classical, and EDM).

Tablo and Epik High will always be my number one loves in K-pop (I don't care that they're technically hip hop). Also a big fan of:

-Yoon Mi Rae (Tasha). Check out Get It In in both Korean and English. That girl... I just love her.
-BEAST/B2ST. B2UTIES REPRESENT~
-SNSD. Really only because of REXR's remix of their 2010 songs
-SHINee. I just... Onew was my second love in K-pop after Tablo.
-U-KISS. Neverland and Binguel Binguel make me happy &gt;.&gt;
-Brown-Eyed Girls. Ga In is my lady crush and her Sixth Sense/Abracadabra/Irreversible are love.
-TVXQ/DBSK. Kinda a given.
-2NE1. Bom Park is my favorite and I enjoyed her solo song Don't Cry (even though the sad lyrics don't match the pumpin' beat)
-CNBlue. Just getting into them, but love 'em already.

And there's more but yeah. I love a lot of groups. &gt;.&gt;

OBSESSED with Brown Eyed Girls' <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSKRffDyWog" rel="nofollow">new song</a>.

The MV story is pretty great too. The main character tries to drown her blind sister after finding out that she is in love with her husband. The blind girl was trying to put on makeup to impress her sister's husband, which causes the sister to lash out and drag her to the bathtub. You could think about this on a deeper level and view the blind girl and the sister as the same person - someone explains it pretty well in a comment on the video:

"In my opinion, the little sister and the older sister are the same person. The little sister is like the innocence and true feelings of the older sister. Whereas, the older sister's thick make up is like her outside self and pride and things like that. Deep inside, she still loves this man, but because he might have done something wrong that's why she can't forgive him. However, her true feelings "inner self/little sister" keep running to him, and she gets mad because she want to forget him."

Man, and the lyrics are so good. Obsessed. And I thought this was going to be some kind of advertising song for a cleansing cream brand or something.

At least with SuJu I don't feel like such a pedo noona. =__= SuJu is currently losing to TVXQ though, because I absolutely adore TONE and KYHD.

Recent entries on to my playlist: U-Kiss, LeeSsang, The BOSS (Biteul Biteul has been stuck in my head for freakin' MONTHS!), and Sentimental Scenery &lt;-- so good.

K-Pop is, in fact, forming the entire landscape for this years NaNo, so I consider having it on repeat as "subject research".

There's a link :) Its interesting that I found this group through an online manhwa called 'Song of Cloud'. I will link the original page for you. Scroll through the chapters and you can hear some really good music.

Original Language Link: NOTE the songs on this site only play in Internet Explorer (or my firefox is just K-challenged)
http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=63454&amp;no=40&amp;weekday=

And the translation site here:
http://www.webtoonlive.com/

I got into J-rock first and I will always &lt;3 Miyavi (saw him in concert twice yaay) and you cant look j-rock and not stumble on to K-pop. I like Super Junior, DBSK, Big Bang/2NE1 (Lollipop so good) just to name the favorites.

And then there's BBAN but there's not much about them.

Usually ballad songs from drama OSTs are good too. I know SISTAR is pretty popular and all but I just love love Hyorin's voice here.

Kan Mi Youn's "Paparazzi" is pretty good too.

I know you mentioned them above, but Girls' Generation/SNSD's new album is REALLY good.

[/quote]

If you like J-Pop, you should check out Buono! and Berryz Koubou. They're both really good. GG/SNSD's Japanese album was really good, especially "BAD GIRL" and "You-aholic."

Okay, guys, I just listened to most of the new Wonder Girls album on YouTube and it's pretty much fantastic. The only song that I dislike is the song they're promoting, 'Be My Baby.' 'Be My Baby' sounds almost too similar to Miss A's music, but the rest of the album is great. I've been listening to <a href rel="nofollow">'Stop!'</a> and <a href rel="nofollow">'Sweet Dreams'</a> while writing. They're so good!

Re: K-pop

I'm really super obsessed with Super Junior (I'm listening to Mr. Simple while writing this :D), not that I've never been, but ever since their comeback...nonstop listening. So, yes, I am listening to it while writing my story, which I'm not making much progress with. Anyways, I also really like 2PM and 2AM. Recently, I've been listening to some more girl groups (I've already been listening to 2NE1 and two songs from Girls' Generation) like f(x), Miss A, Girl's Day, and KARA. Oh yeah, Big Bang...I'm waiting for a comeback from them, so I've kind of set them aside for now, but I still love them. Okay, I used to listen to SHINee but for some reason, I just stopped. Also, recently, I've listened to a lot of Beast and some U-Kiss. And I like B1A4 too...
Teen Top and Infinite....meh.
Honestly, honestly, honestly, I don't really like TVXQ. I think it's because I watched one of their MVs and they all looked and sounded bad. The only song I like from them is Mirotic and that's an old song. Also, I don't think I like U-Know Yunho. I'm trying to like them, but I think it'll be a while until I fully...like them.
I don't know...like I'm Korean and I don't like all these Korean groups. I feel like a lot of K-pop fans like ALL of the groups, which I don't know if it's true or not but it's only from what I've seen.
Yay...I'm glad I found this thread.. :)

I love Kpop with an unhealthy passion. SHINee, Super Junior, Beast, Infinite, Big Bang, U-Kiss, old TVXQ, JYJ, 2NE1, Kara, some SNSD, CN Blue, FT Island, f(x), G-Dragon, MBLAQ, Rain, Wonder Girls, Brown Eyed Girls... should I go on?

My husband doesn't understand why I like it so much, especially because until I heard SNSD's 'Oh!" and it stuck in my head for a month and a half, I was a super-hardcore metal fan. I still like it, but my Kpop sees much, much more use on my mp3 player.

I knew there had to be other k-pop fans here! I'm a huge CN Blue fan and they're my undisputed #1, but I like songs from a bunch of groups, mostly boy groups - especially Big Bang, Super Junior (including M and KRY), TRAX... Love love love Heechul's solo work. And GD&amp;TOP of course. Not a big fan of girl groups. I tend to go for songs not groups though so I'll try everything once. Maybe not k-pop as such, but I'm listening to Epik High right now and they're fascinating...

Anyway nice to see I'm not the only one listening to k-pop while writing! It turns out Super Junior is kinda excellent as background music for writing alien-human fight scenes... Who knew. Good luck with your writing everyone.

Then youtube had SHINee on the suggested music list and I have to say, even though SuJu are the better dancers, SHINee can definitely hold their own. They are my favorite of the two, which has absolutely nothing to do with my insane crush on Jonghyun. Nope, nothing at all.

I like Fiction by B2ST. B1A4 is a new group, consisting of teen boys; they're not terrible.
I love Big Bang. I wish I was in Korea for their YG Family Concert....
I used to like SHINee, but they don't really do anything anymore.

But you haven't listened to Big Bang, do listen. And give a listen to B2ST and B1A4 because they're not terrible. If I think of more, then I'll tell you but I can't of any more off the top of my head.

I love Big Bang too, especially T.O.P. His latest haircut is so sexy, love it!!!
I kind of like B1A4. The way I remember the difference between all the new boy bands that are coming out is by certain members in each of them. Like B1A4, they have the guy with long hair and glasses. That is literally the only way (please don't take offense &gt;_&lt;)
But I like Eunhyuk, I didn't realize he was such a good dancer until I saw the really sweet video that had all of them singing about one girl and confessing their love for her. (Goodness gracious, I cannot remember the name of it.)
But B2ST is really good too. I really like "I Like You the Best" and "V.I.U" Both of those songs have really good beats.

T.O.P is my favorite Big Bang member ever! But Daesung is the funniest dude in the group. He never fails to make me laugh.
None taken. I know what you mean...my friends are like that too :D
Really? I don't think I've watched this....I wish I knew... But yeah, he's amazing. On variety programs, when Super Junior is on it, he's always the one to dance. I was surprised when he changed his hair color, but blonde surprisingly suits him somewhat. Usually, I don't like it when my favorite idol group members change their hair color, but I like Eunhyuk's.
OH. I Like You the Best, I haven't listened to that in a while.
And another one: TVXQ. Mirotic and Keep Your Head Down are two songs that I really like. I didn't really like them at first, but they're slowly growing on me.

Anyone still around who is interested in being email pals/writing buddies?

I'm 28 and I love Super Junior (Yesung, Kyuhyun, and Sungmin Y U SO ADORABLE?), 2ne1, GD &amp; TOP, B1A4 (my new guilty pleasure) and f(x). I'm slowly getting in to Shinee, Big Bang, Girls Generation, and TVXQ/DBSK/JYJ as well. And maybe EXO, if SM ever debuts them. XD
