I need some O.O Half of my characters have /something/ to do with the ocean (fisherman, sea gods, shape-shifters...) Anyway, I only have a couple of songs. ("Into the Ocean" by Andy McKee, "Morning Waltz" by Jesse Chui and "A Great Divide" by Dustin O'Halloran)
Post anything that sounds like it could have something to do with the ocean/water, please! If it has lyrics, they don't necessarily need to be about water or the ocean--it just needs to sound "ocean-y".
What sort of ocean feel are you going for? Cheery? Treacherous? Moody?
Anyway, try: The Mariner's Revenge Song - The Decemberists Off To Sea - Resistor (This one's an instrumental) Seasong For The Moominpappa - Ritual The Wild, Wild Sea - Sting
- Rant and Roar - Lukey's Boat - Safe Upon the Shore - The Jolly Butcher (not about the sea, but if you want ocean-y songs, GBC has you back) - The Old Black Rum
- Sailor Eyes by Joel Plaskett
- Desert Island by XTC
- He's a Pirate (in fact, just go nab the songs you like off the PotC soundtracks)
- Paper Airplanes - Buck 65 ft. Jenn Grant
- Jigs: The Dusty Windowsill/The O Keefe's of Dublin
"Jon Barber" by Great Big Sea is about a sailor "Farewell to Tarwathie" I like Judy Collins version "Farewell to Nova Scotia" is about a sailor, there are folk and irish-rock versions of it. I like the Real McKenzie's version. If you like folk, I've always liked "My Johnny was a Shoe-maker" (he joins the navy) There are plenty of shanties out there, like "What do you do with a Drunken Sailor?" I suggest searching it on YouTube, there will be links to others on the side Plus, if you like Irish Rock, the Dropkick Murphy's do a few, like Shipping Up to Boston If you like alternative: Ludo does one called Rotten Town about a former sailor.
Consider The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo soundtracks. And also Surfing USA (not sure who preforms it, I only listen to it on this dancing video game, and it never says the artist).
"Ocean-y" Songs, I guess
