What Music Makes You Think of Soaring Through the Air?

I'm looking for music that makes you feel like you're flying - or songs about flying! Except I'd like it to have lyrics in English! :)

So what music makes you feel like a bird with wind whipping through your hair?

Fantasy Film Music! That's the way to go on flying sequences.
Test Flight from How to Train Your Dragon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJBpLQrBJXM
Flying Vessell from Stardust http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv-0TDYrCOA&feature=related
The White Tree from Return of the King http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5NJ2_yNSxE
Sky Ferry from The Golden Compass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StQPeslnNtw
Buckbeak's Flight from Prisoner of Azkaban http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR9kT8PL6ZA
Sky Battle from Deathly Hallows: Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGKUSgFNlbg
Dragon Flight from Deathly Hallows: Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzEvXoGF2D4

I'd also try Wake Up by Arcade Fire, Air by Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra, Fly Me Away by Goldfrapp and Empire Ants by Gorillaz. There's also a link to a 100-best list on a-this website; http://goldendome.org/music/default.htm

"Colors/Dance" by George Winston.
"Flying" by Cait Agus Sean.
"Quanta Qualia" by Hayley Westenra, very light and airy and delicate.

"Free as a Bird" by the Beatles, of course...
"Perfect Weather to Fly" by Elbow is good, too.
"Memorial" by Explosions in the Sky is instrumental, but feels utterly weightless.

Get Up - Superchick (about trying to fly so it can be said they got there eventually...)

"Defying Gravity" has already been mentioned but I would like to add you might want to look up the version from Kerry Ellis's "Wicked in Rock" album if you wanna try something more fast paced.

Oh and maybe "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson like with the lyrics
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly,
I'll do what it take 'till I touch the sky.

Hope this helps!

Soaring from Kiki's Delivery Service. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qimpuoH0d2k

Black Bird maybe Beatles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5CUHHGlQg0) or Sarah McLachlan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3VrggQW7tk) (I like hers a lot more, but its because I heard it so often so young)

And Loquat's 'Swingset Chain' has this one part in the middle that always has be thinking of flying and floating. The rest of it is sort of light/floaty in sounding to me so I always sort of see the events described from a point a little above the scene, so almost like flying... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51G24IVfcaI

"Dark Chest of Wonders" by Nightwish

Oh! How could I forget--the entire "Treasure Planet" soundtrack gives you a fantastic sense of flight and soaring:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT4d2ayw7eU

And my earlier suggestions were:

"Running Up That Hill" cover by Within Temptation (fly! Soar! Feel that freedom!!)
"Take My Hands" from the Escaflowne Movie OST (instrumental - feel that cold wind rushing against your face~)
"Dark Chest of Wonders" by Nightwish (the chorus just picks you up and hurtles you across a brilliant, blue, cloud-strewn sky XD)
"Fly Away From Here" by Aerosmith (soaring in a sunset sky)

Re: What Music Makes You Think of Soaring Through the Air?

Most of the 'flying feeling' music I have is in other languages. Not being able to understand the lyrics adds to the feeling for me.
(The two most prominent if anyone's interested are "Storywriter" by Supercar and "Cloud Age Symphony" by Shuntaro Okino)

Instrumental of "Cloud Age Symphony" by Shuntaro Okino.
"Wanderlust" by Abney Park, coupled with a Steampunk vibe.

Joe Hisaishi Instrumentals:
From the Porco Rosso:
"The Wind of Time - When a Human can be a Human"
"Mammaiuto"
"Ushinawareta Tama - Lost Spirit"
"Doom - Cloud Trap"
"Madness - Flight" which also has an amazing version on Harp and Viola de Gamba

"The Dragon Boy" from Spirited Away gives me this feeling, might be the only one though.
The beginning of "To the Lake of Stars" and "Love of War" from Howl's Moving Castle.

The new Florence and the Machine album - Shake It Out in particular. I can imagine spinning through the clouds and swooping down to chase helicopters to that song.

Seconding Treasure Planet forever, especially "To the Spaceport" and "The Launch". Actually, pretty much anything by James Newton Howard.

If it's fast flight, Real Gone by Sheryl Crow is the first thing I think of. I'm writing a non-NaNo Fantasy novel and the dragon the main character is bonded to flies fast. So yeah that's my recommendation.
If it's songs that mention flying, then "Heaven Knows" by Rise Against... it's not really about flying, but it uses it as a clever and well-described metaphor.
Thank you! Rise Against makes everyone feel AMAZING!!!

Internet, I am disappointed. No mention of the classic "I Believe I can Fly"? For shame.

So, yeah. It's a song that helps me, other than Owl City, which has been mentioned.
