I am sure it it out there, the perfect (and FREE) software to help me lay out where all the rooms, windows, doors, corridors, stairs etc are in my large Country House Hotel.

And to get it to line up with the floor above, so that the stairs are in the same place.

Does anyone know of what I could use, so that I don't have to ask myself, over and over again, if I have too many rooms leading out onto the terrace, which rooms look out over the river, and which towards the front of the house....

If it could do gardens as well, that would be Wonderful!

Here is a 3-d design software for remodeling a home.

I do not own this software and don't know anything about it beyond the announcement. Note that it is not free but half off for some sort of limited time. At least you can use it as a baseline for comparison.

I ended up not needing it so I don't know how well it works, but you could try floorplanner.com

I design floor plans sometimes just for fun (castles! whooo hoooo!) I just use graph paper for mine and draw the second story on the next page, checking back and counting squares to make sure everything lines up.

I use graph paper too to draw floor plans of where my characters live, I draw the main level then get another sheet of graph paper and count the squares to line up the lines and trace exactly where the staircase and elevators are. It's fun!

Consider using Google SketchUp.

You might even be able to find plans for what you want already created.

Thank you all. I don't have graph paper nowadays. I have had a look at Floorplanner, com and at Google Search .... I shall have to try - You have all been brilliantly helpful. Posh country house hotel (and sub-Blenheim posh house) coming up!

You could build the whole thing in Minecraft! The Classic version is free.
