thegreatwhitewolf: That's a little more accurate, but yeah, tell the real story!
Oh, fine. It all starts with Lady scribbles, who for some reason decided that what she really needed to do was create a thread where people could come and cry about life, their novel and whatever else was happening.
herLilKB: Were there tissues?
Yes, herLilKB, there were tissues. And hugs. Comfort foods of the 'bring your own and share' variety, or BYOAS for short.
Nym: And do I get a woobie? Please please please please?
Yes, Nym, you get a woobie. For there were woobies, and sing alongs, and parodies. There was craziness and secret handshakes that weren't secret after all. And all of this became NaNoWriMo Tradition (tm)...
*scribbles clears throat*
Yes?
scribbles: You're forgetting the most important part.
Oh yes. See, we have a rule here. No matter what, you're always allowed to cry and get it out. Scream, stomp, bawl... get it out, have a tissue and then get hugged. Because we're supportive like that.
scribbles: ...well, not that that's unimportant, but what I was referring to is even more important than that and you're still forgetting it!
Am I?
scribbles: YES! *she holds up a thing that looks like a spoon, except it's kind of like a fork on the end* This!
...oh yeah, that.

Some FAQs:
WHAT is a spork?
Simply: it's a fork + spoon. :-) Have an extensive look here (Wiki Warning!), complete with a picture of a TITANIUM spork.
WHY a spork?
The combined spoon-fork=spork is a versatile choice of weapon: Three--sometimes more/less-- points at the end offer great satisfication for those inclined to jab-jab-JAB-STAB-POKE! * their annoying writing entities.
Its wide concave surface is perfect for those moments when you take a deep breath, collect your pent up frustrations/anger/etc, and let it rip as you swing the wide part at your literary foes! WHAP! SMACK! FWAP!Inverted, the convex curve is also suitable for scooping or 'herding' the writing entities (or otherwise) where you want them.
And lastly, when holding spork, strong and true and proud, .. it's been reported that somehow-- someway-- people can't resist to smile.
WHAT is a woobie?
/wuob-EE/ From the Greek Woobinus. -noun. Plural: woobies.
Any sort of snuggly something that offers comfort during times of stress. Made famous in the 1983 movie "Mr. Mom" starring Michael Keaton and Teri Gar. Often refers to a blanket that a child cannot part with under any circumstances. [Origin: bee_girl]
WHAT is a postzilla?
Sometimes the Sporky Force is strong, and it moves sporkers to take a little time and effort to sit down and reply to a long list of sporkers before him/her in one massive sporktastic post. Not required, especially when you're trying to beat out a a 1.6K words daily, but many have reported awesome writing vibes and karma for trying it out, at least once ;)
WHAT is the Spork Room Dare?
Simply include the spork (in any manner you deem sporky) in your NaNovel and then share it with the rest of us! Guaranteed to garner much glee and cheering from the sporky masses and instant feel-good writing vibes.
Newbie here. A Spork Thread? Woobies? This place is awesome! You made me go grab my teddy bear (given by a writer friend long ago for comfort) and change her out of her sundress and into her fall sweater. I feel better getting a hug. And... I got my Spork (lime green) out of the kitchen. Hmm, yes, it does make me smile to hold it. Good for whapping the box I've imprisoned my Inner Editor in for November perhaps?
The next day, Anita picked up her spork and dug into her side of cole slaw. “So we went to the designated pool hall. It was exactly as described. So was he. He took one look at the officers and shoved the nearest patron into them and dashed for the exit. The officers outside grabbed him as he came out the door. The still healing scratches on his neck were a DNA match for the material under Wanda’s fingernails. We got him.” She bit into her cole slaw with vicious satisfaction. “What’s the word on the kid and her parents?”
I am, unfortunately, very, very bogged down by work :-( I am still uncertain whether I'll be able to participate in NaNo this year or if I'll be around in the forums, but I wanted to just peek in and say high, and wish everyone well.
Yea! It's finally up. *throws some sporkfetti in the air before passing out at keyboard from exhaustion after waiting so long for the pretty new forums to appear*
Aaaand we're back! It's also 2:30am here. I should probably sleep before I reach the point where I may as well stay up all night, especially given the lack of sleep from this weekend.
I'm expecting to pay many a visit to this thread in the next two weeks, so I'll just settle myself down on a beanbag in the corner for a while. Anyone want cake?

Slytherins are awesome. See, we have so many gorgeous and useful qualities. I raised $1000 for UNICEF at the end of October - just at my school and around my neighborhood - by using my subtly aggressive Slytherin coercion.
See? We don't always use ambition for our own gain...
Wow! Crazy new thread design! *hides* I'm kind of scared by it...
So hello everyone! I think I said at one point in the old Spork Room that I wasn't going to be doing NaNo, but I've changed my mind. I have a novel that needs rewriting - I wrote the first five chapters or so, then my sister read it, and I decided to rework the ENTIRE THING, from the beginning. I've rewritten the first chapter but am going to redo that as well. So it's not even NaNo rebelling, it's just writing a novel with the same characters.
Anyhoo, I'm going to be doing that. Won't be working at my usual speed (wasn't it 193,000 last year or something stupid?) but I reckon I'll get 50k if I take it steady. Sooo. Wish me luck!
Spork thread, I have missed you. Hi guys! Last year you miraculously remembered me from the year before that - still don't know how that happened - so maybe there are a couple of people around who still will. I used to be VespertineAlice (waits for teensy little bells to ring in the deep dark recesses of your minds). But even if no one does I'm happy to be here :D *settles down on huge, possibly alive armchair*
I miss my home region. I'm sure that my new city's WriMos are all sorts of wonderful, but they're not MINE. Plus, I'm in class twenty-five hours a week, and homework takes up about the same. I actually do need to sleep and eat sometimes- I have NO idea where I'm going to find time for writing.
Oh, I know the feeling! School five days a week, three ballet classes, five orchestras / bands (including one on Saturday mornings immediately after my early ballet class), homework, mock exams coming up (so revision), church, and trying to have something vaguely like a social life......
The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!

SPORK ON!
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
i love your icon
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
I'm not sure whether I'll be able to do it either, though I've got my fingers crossed that I'll manage. Sigh. Major exams in November is no fun.

Yeah! The site is all new and shiny! ::scribbles name on wall:: How is everyone doing? :D
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
I come bearing chocolate!
*adds a selection of chocolate plot bunnies, chocolate sporks, and just plain chocolate to the table*
*collapses into a large, comfy recliner*
Aah, I'm just going to relax here for a while. It's been a stressful month.

Anyone want cake?
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
I'll take cake from a fellow Nerdfighter any day.
Do I detect a hint of Pumpkin Juice?
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Now I just need to find my spork from last year. I come bearing... pie, mmm, pie.
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Mmm, pie. And cake. And chocolate. Now I'm hungry, is it lunchtime yet?
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
I love you guys.
And it's great to be back, and in a much more mentally stable area than last year.
WOO!
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Also it's always nice to meet a fellow Slytherin! *waves over all the food*
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Hello my awesome lovely Sporkers. It is I your resident Dark Lord xD
PS. I missed you all xD
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Slytherins? Slytherin Pride ftw! I bring Chocolate Frogs. =)
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Nooooo. Ravenclaw forever.
#RavenclawPride
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
I'll sneak down and get some firewhiskey then! Ravenclaws are invited... if they bring cookies.
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Obviously cookies. *passes cookies* And custard creams.
If they're hexed, it's entirely not my fault. Gryffindors keep breaking into our common room.
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Gryffindors... *sighs* though they're quite funny when out of their minds of Firewhiskey.
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
*polite cough* Are Hufflepuffs invited if we bring cake?
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
And what about us Ravenpuffs? :3 I mean, I've brought brownies, so...
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
*sets box of ginger cookies wrapped in blue & bronze tissue on table*
Point me at the coffee, please =)
Re: The NaNoWriMo Spork Thread!
Pottermore (aka official) Gryffindor Pride (though previously I believed I was a Slytherpuff)

By the way, guys, do you happen to know if we can have post signatures this year? I can't find the setting, and no one's got one.
