We've got a busy schedule of events coming up to keep you entertained and motivated! Some times and places may change, but I'll do my best to keep you up to date and pin down everything soon.
Kick off Party - Will be on the Sunday before Nanowrimo. We've tentatively chosen Meow Cafe in the centre of town as a large, friendly and funky location, I just need to clear it with them 100% but they seem happy enough.
Weekly Weekday Write-ins will be at Clark's Cafe in Wellington Central Library from 2 till about 6. Feel the motivation of tonnes of books!
Weekly Weekend Write-in will be at 2 on Sundays, probably at Meow Cafe. If Meow closes early then the action moves to Joe's Garage near Te Papa.
We'll also be having Weekly Evening Write-ins on Wednesdays at the Southern Cross for those of you that would like some alcoholic inspiration. Time to be decided.
Anything else you need/want? Any question? Discuss below!
Where we get together and write! They're lots of fun - you get to meet weird people, get words written, pose knotty questions like 'What should I name my planet?' and get answers like 'Bob!' or 'The Illustrious Realm of the Fungus Whales', get into writing races, drink coffee, design alien animals, drink more coffee ...
Whenever I come back to NZ, you'll have to show me this "Meow" place. It sounds like there are going to be lots of write-ins in Wellington for NaNo. Awesome! I'll be cheering you guys on from the forums and the Ink Slingers facebook group.
It looks like there might be an early kick-off party in NYC, so I'll have the chance to meet people here before I leave. I'm going to be doing NaNo in one country for one half of the month and here for the other half. Should be interesting.
For those who aren't familiar with NaNoWriMo, holding a 'Night of Writing Dangerously' is simply a writing party in November where everyone brings their laptops - and possibly other stuff like stimulants or booze.
Since we didn't have one last year (or the year before that) I'm declaring one at my place. It's fairly central.
Booze, chemical writing aids and applicable medication are fine (and indeed expected). However, legal and prescription meds. only please, as I do not have defibrillator, and the police are stubbornly difficult to bribe.
Please bring 'a plate' - or a bottle.
Rowan
NOTE : this event is posted on Facebook, for additional details, please contact me as "Dilettante Too" on Facebook - or talk to me during our meet-ups (my icon should give you some idea of whom you need to talk to).
Yeah, there's a lot of reduced functionality in these forums - there used to be a function where new posts that you hadn't already read were highlighted somehow. That seems to have gone with the upgrade. Though the loading times are better.
Yes, I would definitely like to see that function reintroduced to save scrolling through old posts. Also the "new post" flag on the front page seems to flag threads with old posts and miss some with new ones... Or is that just me?
It's to be expected really. They were push for the deadline and probably started having to cut some features out to make the release time. Expect them to be done soon(ish. Very ish), but possibly marked as semi-low priority, so perhaps after all the big pages like Writing Buddies etc etc. (I'm a programmer and this has JUST happened at our work. Migrating to Ruby, pushed for dead line, chopped tons out, made it run, went to sleep for 40-50 hours)
Hey was looking to finf the "night" event on FB, no luck? I have work til 10.30 but seeing as how this is my 1st time doing something like this I would be fully keen to stop by on my way home..!
It doesn't seem clear which event you are refering to. I've put the "Night of Writing Dangerously" down as a facebook event (I titled the post here as such, but the formatting titles is terrible), but Duncan\Angrysunbird has not done so for regular wednesdays, likely because facebook events are not great for multiple meetings.
Anyway, If you are talking about the Night of Writing Dangerously, there isn't much more info on facebook, than there is here - except some pictures and a few directions to my place. You don't need to join there to turn up - you're doing NaNo so you're automatically welcome, and turning up at 10.30pm would not be a problem. Searching for "Inkslingers" facebook group is another way. (I'm one of the admin so I will join you up, if Duncan/angrysunbird or Fiona/wayoffbase don't beat me to it)
I see Duncan's already answered regarding regular late-night wednesdays, so one of us should have answered your query.
NaNoWriMo events!

Re: NaNoWriMo events!
What part of town is Meow Cafe in? Cuba Street?
((We have so many cafes in this city I can not be expected to know where they all are))
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
Meow is in an alley across the road from the McDonalds on Manners. Behind the DOC building.
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
Alrighty, I'll have a look for it the next time I am in that part of town (which might even be tomorrow).

Re: NaNoWriMo events!

Re: NaNoWriMo events!
I'll probably be able to drop in for a Week day event unfortunatly I'm up in Masterton during the weekends so won't be able to make weekend events.
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
Okay and might be able to go to the Weeknight one too
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
Ahhhh, I wanna come to all of them!!! Sadly I have work from 8:30-5:30, so I can only come to the evenings and the weekends.
Sadpanda is sad :(
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
I may appear at a few Weekly Write Ins at the central library this week, dependent on whether I've come up with a solid story plan.
:)
Re: NaNoWriMo events!
We should definitely have a picnic lunch on some sunny weekend. Since we actually have nice weather coming up!
