Introduce yourself!

I said we'd have to do this again! Anyway, here's a thread to meet up and find out who everyone is!
I'm angrysunbird, aka Duncan, your friendly neighbourhood Municipal Liaison. I've been MLing here for about three years, and have previously written novels in California, England and Sydney. I'm a PhD student at Vic and while I mostly write Sci Fi I have tried my hand at Fantasy, Comedy, Action, and even Romance. The less said about the latter the better really. And along with Travis I'll be helping all of you achieve novelling nirvana!

Zoë here! I've been attempting Nano for several years now, and I'm still yet to do better than four digits of word count. Nevertheless, this year I AM going to reach fifty thousand. I don't know how, but I will do it! And possibly even all on my typewriter, like somebody (was it you, Duncan?) challenged me to.

Hey, I'm Mikkiness, aka Michelle. I'm on a new account for this years NaNo, largely because I was bored of the other one. This will be my second year, and hopefully my second win.

I'm in my final year of college and hoping to go to Vic next year.

For NaNo this year I'm writing a YA novel about Multiplicity (the preferred term for D.I.D./M.P.D.) with probably too much romance considering my usual complete disinterest in reading/writing it. I'm constantly looking for 'resources' *cough cough* I mean, people, to help me with this as a large part of it involves lampshading, twisting, and poking serious holes in common perceptions on the topic (on the subject of which, feel free to pm me with whatever you know (or think you know) about multiples).

Woop! We're back into it!

AJ here, long time offender: to my wife's horror and my perverse glee, this is my 11th Nanowrimo. Interestingly, I'm trying to juggle it with performing in a show (Spamalot! Come and see it!) and finishing my teacher training course this year, so it's always amusing what little challenges we make for ourselves! The down side: I won't be making it to Sunday meetups for the first half of the month due to rehearsals!

Um, no thinking space right now, assignments. Will come up with a firm novel idea over the next fortnight and map the damn thing out... I've finally admitted over the last couple of years that plotting actually does increase my chances of success, dammit.

I'm lexiana, aka Alex, and this is going to be my second year of this crazy, stressful but fantastic month. I managed to finish my last NaNo - it was a hell of a rush, though! - and this year I'm going to tackle the Sci-Fi genre, unless I change my mind... I'm in my second year of Biology at Vic, and so I have a five day disadvantage because of exams, but still, Challenge Accepted.

Like Timone from Lion King says, NaNo is "Stressful yet satisfying!" (oh wait, slimy yet satisfying... nevermind.)

This is my third year participating in NaNoWriMo and hopefully my third year winning it too. It is however my first year doing NaNoWriMo outside of Wellington, New Zealand. So I'm going to be missing you all but still here on the forms, da'lings.

I'm currently living in Manhattan, NYC, so I think I'll be here for November. Or not. We'll see.

Hi, my (pen)name is Charlotte, and I've got a huge dilemma.
I've been eagerly anticipating my first nano for months, but now we're getting close to it, I'm not sure I can do it :( I have 90 days' worth of work to complete by my client deadlines of November 30... I can't seem to communicate to my boss that we're ridiculously under-resourced to deliver on these dates, so short of working long hours seven days a week I don't know how I'm going to get it all out.
I'd still love to take part in nano, but do I need the added pressure on top of my work? Or would it be a welcome distraction/change of pace? Who knows :S
If I don't make it through the November journey with the rest of you, is there a local writing group that meets throughout the year? Murphy's law I'll be back to not having enough work to do from December onwards!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello again, all you fabulous NaNoers!

My name is Lauren, I'm new to all this business with the writing and the stressing and whatnot, but I'm really looking forward to meeting you all. I've never written anything as long as 50 000 words (I feel like I need to put that in bold or something to give it the gravitas it deserves). What I do write is mainly horror-ish and fantasy-ish, though I don't like to put myself in a box too much - hence the 'ishes'.

This year, my plan (oh, yes, I have a plan, it's all handwritten and on my noticeboard as we speak, I'm tweaking it a little now, but I hope it's going to be a good one) is to write a horror-ish tale from two different characters perspectives. So it'll be a first person narrative kind of thing. Plus, I'm doing my masters in information studies (what you do when you want a pay raise in the library world!) part time at Vic, so that should be... mad. Fiddle de-dee, said Lola, what's a bit more stress?

That's so annoying for you - and after you got all excited about Nano too! :( I'd guess that NaNo is meant to be fun, so if I was you, I'd still give it a bash, but it's not worth wigging yourself out entirely over. And you can always have your own fake NaNo in December!

Good luck with all the work :)

Haiii all! I'm Briony, but you can call me Bri. This shall be my... 5th NaNo! Hooray! I'm in Wellington for uni, and the lame thing is that I'll actually be leaving pretty early on during November to go back home for the summer. BUT the town I'm from is so tiny that I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one doing NaNo there. Sooo I'm tagging in with you lot. Plus, I hung out here a bit last year, and know some of your faces... ;)

And this year I'm taking my first dip into writing Sci-fi - meep! I am not a scientist. At all. So, Duncan, be prepared for me to bombard you with questions :D

Have fun Wrimos!

Hi, I'm Steph :)

I'm a third year Laws/Arts student at Vic and this will be my second NaNoWriMo! Like Briony (who consistently forgets that she isn't the only person in our small town doing this!) I'll be leaving Wellington at the beginning of the month, largely to my dismay - but I'm with you in spirit!

I'm currently having a small crisis as to whether to stick with my usual chicklit or venture into the murder mystery that's been floating around in my head for a few months - though I feel that I'm going to need to do a lot of planning with the latter and will have to fit it around working 6 days a week during November! Any thoughts?

Good luck everyone!

I'm Jenny, a recent grad bumming around my parents house and hoping for find a job involving some type of writing. I'm not actually in Wellington at the moment, nor probably will be for years, but you guys are all way cooler than my local writing group with I did NaNo here in the States back in 2009. Thus, this is staying as my home region.

This is my third year, and I'm hoping to win again. I'm also doing original fiction this year, instead of fanfiction as I did for the past two. We'll see how it goes. I can write fanfics more than 50K, but I've never done anything original over 30K. Plus, there's nothing nearly as cool as the Library Bar in the Detroit region. I mean, there is that 24 hour coney island, but I don't want to bring my laptop there.

I have no reason to not have time to write, with no other commitments like work or school. My only hiccup will be travelling down to Christchurch for 5 days during nano to catch up with my family and to go help run the timing at Levels racetrack. I'll be giving it the best I can but hopefully I can stay ahead of myself.

My fiance is the one who introduced me to NaNoWriMo, he is Crystalmyst on here and we will be kicking each others butts to get it done.

19 Days to Nano!!!!!
(Just thought I'd throw that out there! o.e....bwahahaha!!) Sorry, it seems I lost my sanity like the Springbokke lost against Oz. T_T

Hi everyone, I'm known by my penname Claire(short for Clairavance) in the online communities I'm part of. If I meet you in person I'll probably give you my real name, but as it stands, I'm more comfortable hiding behind my penname. Only because I know to run in the opposite direction if a complete stranger comes up to me and says 'hey Claire!'
You know. Just incase someone has it out for me. ;p

This is my third year of doing Nano! Hopefully I'll make it to the 50k this year. We'll see, though, because I have three kids to contend with now. Let's hope the kid-count doesn't go up with every year I do Nano.

I'm planning on spending all my time revising/rewriting a YA Paranormal novel I wrote a few years back. I've been tweaking it here and there but it still has a LOT of work, AND it's not novel-length yet. And with revising, my wordcount is likely to fall then rise, then fall again, then rise again, kinda like when my one year old started walking last year. Well. Actually, he still falls down quite a lot. >.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi! I'm Brat, This will be my fourth nanowrimo. I won it last year, but I was so bad in my first year I appear to have mentally blanked what I tried to write about. Because for the LIFE of me I cannot remember. I'll be returning to the lovely town of Wellytron, newly qualified (hopefully) on the 7th of November.

Last year I wrote about God sending a slightly hopeless angel to play for the All Blacks during the World Cup. Now that Stephen Donald has been picked I think we need the angel more than ever!

Ahem. because of my longstanding obsession with angelic things, this year i'm going to be writing a slightly more serious angel related novel, about an angel, a girl, a boy in a dress, and the search for the missing archangel Michael. Greyhound busses will be involved. Weekly weird news will be lampooned.

This year my goal is to get 50,000 typed words, because I can't afford a typist, and I gave myself carpal tunnel last year handwriting the entire thing.

Yea, I will try and focus on my writing again when work settles down which may mean a fake nano in December :) But there's still nothing quite like doing it with the support of thousands of fellow nanoers putting themselves through the same stresses. I had a practice run finishing off an old piece during Augusts' Campnano - there's nothing quite like a sprint or two to get the words out!

Thanks for the luck :) Finally managed to convince my boss today we need to bring in a contractor to help me - it's still going to be a big assignment either way, but this way I may actually survive the month ;)

Awesome :) I'll have to see if I can meet up with you at some point. I made the decision a few months back that I need to start getting serious about my writing, or I can no longer identify myself as a (hobby) writer, and I'm sure meeting regularly with a group would help that :)
How long do your meetings normally go for? (I.e. would you still be around after I'm finished work, or would you be long gone) Is it a big group? What do you do?

The Former Weapon of Mass Novelisation

Hello! I'm Christine!

I've been around for four years of this now, looking forward to this like usual except wait *KERSMASH* Exams to the 14th!? You have got to be kidding me!

So yes, in the past I have been a little bit crazy. I'm not going to get into that. This year I'm probably going to be lucky if I reach 50,000, if I am being perfectly honest. Do I have a plan? Well... yes and no. There has been a story spinning around in my brain like a cracked record of really terrible eighties music. Of course in my usual fantasy genre, even though I can never seem to make my stories end. I'm thinking of writing backwards this year. Well, write each chapter in reverse order. hguone tsaf siht ekil etirw nac I erus ton m'I. I'm not set on the idea yet. Usually I have a much stronger feeling for my characters, and that has yet to click, but there's still 19 days... or 33 if I'm good and wait till that last exam.

On the sad news front: probably not making it down to Wellington before December this year! I've been accepted for the Disney International Program (Ask me about it some time, or better read here http://kiwidisney.blogspot.com/ ) so before I head off in January I'm gonna spend some time with my university friends up here in Auckland and save up some more money.

But I'm sure I'll make it onto here while I'm procrastinating from those pesky exams. Drop me a buddy request whenever that starts working, I'm pretty friendly when I'm not grumpy ^_^

Re: Introduce yourself!

We tend to finish up on Thursdays around 6-6:30 (that's when the cafe closes), and Sundays... I'm not actually sure. I tend to leave around 5, but there's usually still a few people there when I leave, it's basically just drop in, drop out until everyone leaves so it kind of depends on numbers/schedules. But I imagine we should still be there when you finish.
It can be a fairly large group, we average 5-10 on Sundays, and maybe 10-15 on Thursdays, just depending on what we're all doing.
A mix of writing and talking, more talking than writing lately, but I think that's at least partly because no one really writes in the lead up to NaNo. We started meeting up during write ins last NaNo, and just kind of kept going, I think we're planning to just absorb the write ins and boost our numbers for next year.

Oh, and because I was talking to someone else about this a few weeks ago, there is no charge or donations, but since we meet in cafes its polite to buy something.

Hi all, I'm Isabel.

During the day I go to work and write factual stuff. In my own time I write YA Fiction ... and Degrassi fanfiction.

This will be my second year doing NaNo. Last year I was worried about meeting the word cout, so I was super-organised, and I passed 50,000 on day 14 ... this year the past few months have been so busy I haven't had time to think about NaNo, and it's now nearly here - I've decided to completely pants it. No planning or anything, I'll just start writing on Nov 1 and see what characters come to play.

Like Keri/Cinnamonquill, I moved away from Welly and will be doing Nano in Adelaide this year. I haven't met any of the Adelaide wrimos yet, but I'm sure it'll be good. I have great memories of last year - meeting for write-ins at Joe's (sp?) cafe and the library. I'll miss everyone this year. So I just wanted to say hi and good luck. Some of you are still my Nanobuddies but I haven't checked if that's still saved on the website, so please feel free to add me if not, as it would be great to see how you're doing. :-)

Hi, I'm Nicole, in my first year at Vic and first year at attempting this madness.
I'm a little apprehensive about Nanowrimo, because 50,000 words in a month sounds like rather alot for someone who has never written more than a few thousand...but we all have to start somewhere right? I have a few ideas, but dont want to commit to any of them just yet, so I guess I'm in for a last minute plotting panic. Eeek. That doesnt really sound like a recipe for a win, but I'm trying not to psych myself out too soon!
I'm looking forward to meeting some Wellington Nanoers. I've heard great things about you :D

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hey Nicole, like quite a few others I'd only written a few thousand words before last year's Nano, and I hadn't plotted much either. You can make most of it up during Nano and I think the main thing is to keep writing no matter what. It's maybe good if your plot/characters have a bit of mileage, but equally there's nothing to stop you changing to something new whenever you want. Even if it's the most banal scene ever, or all your characters turn into mangoes and fly to another galaxy for no good reason, just keep writing and something interesting always comes. You'll discover ideas you never knew you had, and discover ideas lurking in hidden depths of your brain. I'm sure most people will tell you if you just keep writing that's the main thing, and I found the forums and the write-ins (especially the write-ins!) really supportive and helpful for that. So build yourself up, don't psych yourself out, that's just no good! :-) And good luck, enjoy it! :-)

Hi, I'm Anna. This is my third Nano. I'm in Dunedin for the moment while my exams are on, but then I might be back in Welly. Depends on where I get a job this year.

This year my novel is about the after-effects of war, using my three lectures of psych and anything else I can use from my degree. It doesn't really have a genre as yet, and it's entirely possible that it still won't have a genre at the end of November. Course I may change the plot entirely, but since I'm starting a week late, I hope not.

I am actually more of an Economist then a writer, and I am not sure how this will go, but I have had this idea for a story for ages and I have never done anything about it, so I will use Nano as a motivation tool.

I am currently looking for work which I will hopefully get before November starts, so if I don't make it to the 50k mark I don't care, I just want to get together a rough draft of my novel.

Hello there!

I'm Sylvia, and i'm in my last year of high school. I have no plan (nor is there ever going to be one, i'm afraid), and no real time to do this in, but what the hell. I think the aftershock of my exams will be enough to numb my disappointment if i fail. Not that that's going to happen. Last year it did, and so this year i have learned something. Hopefully.
So in amongst study, work, exams, band rehearsals, violin practise and... Well, let's just say a LOT of other commitments, I am going to with any luck churn out something that will probably, in the spirit of all the postmodern novels i've been reading lately, not make much (any) sense. Because I think my brain deserves some time in which it doesn't have to be coherent :)

Happy writing to you all!

There is one that grew out of NaNoWriMo last year (still going strong).

It's called Inkslingers.

We have a group on facebook (which I use), and a tumblr page (which I haven't got around to using yet - sorry Duncan!)

Anyway, as Mikkiness put it, we can be found 2pm Thursday in Clarke's Cafe (Wellington Central Library building), and 2pm Sunday at Joe's Garage.

However! This will - temporarily at least - hault in November, because we are all NaNoWriMo people. When November starts, we anticipate stopping all Inkslinger congregations and meeting under the auspices of NaNoWriMo instead.

This year, I will be continuing the story of my previous year's NaNo, because 50k words only got me 1/3 of the way through my plot.

In the mean time, in between working at the central library, I have been polishing my first NaNo - with help from members of the Wellington Inklsingers group. Not all of them have joined the forum yet, but since they are all pretty committed NaNoers, they will.

Hi, I'm Cassie. Yes, I chose my username when I was going through a major Death Cab phase. No, I'm not ashamed. They're a good band!

Anyway, I'm 19 and studying politics and English at Vic. I attempted NaNo last year but didn't get very far, probably because I was in Auckland. I want to do it this year because my exams finish at the end of October, so there is no excuse really. Not sure of what I'll write about yet, I'm still in the brainstorming process but there are some fledgling ideas so here's hoping!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hullo! I'm a third year student at Vic. This will be my inaugural NaNo year - the first year I've been able to since I first heard about it back in 2005. This is big!

I have vague ideas and plots bouncing around in my head. In short, everyone wakes up with the ability to will their thoughts/dreams/imaginings into reality, with varying degrees of success. Aside from the inevitable havoc this would cause, there is a source to it and it's not particularly pleasant.

In theory I'd be able to string a plan together before November, because I am super excited that I have the chance to write NaNo this year. :) Keen to meet you all - seems like a fairly active group around here!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello! I'm Leah!

I'm just in the process of moving up to Wellington, and will arrive on the 30th of October, right before NaNo kicks off! This is my first NaNo ever, and I'm super excited about it. I completed my history honours dissertation this year, which was a beast at 15,000 words, so I'm completely and entirely daunted at the prospect of 50,000. I've also finished my Law degree now, so I'll be starting work two weeks after NaNo.. welp! Ah... but I'm sure it will be awesome! :)

I have no idea what I'm going to write about, but perhaps some sort of detective/science/linguistic romance with clues of awesome things and badly thought out characters. I've never written this much fiction before haha :)

Looking forward to kicking off the fabulous month of November with you all!

Hi I'm emjay (real name aimee). 8th year doing nano and hopefully my 2nd win. Its awesome, exams r all done by the end of next week and apparantly work is dead slow so other than the gym and applying for jobs (i now hate interviewing with an insane passion) i'm all free for writing.

Currently I have no plan and not really planning until after exams stress is over but i generally write what I call, quite emphatically, Pre-Twilight Vampire Romance. The fact that vampire stories became so overwhelming since twilight just pisses me off...

In fact, most of the time i just rewrite the 1 story but its a rewrite from scratch... I may do part two of my 2009 nano (which i finished the 50 thousand words by january this year....oops)

Hey y'all. I'm Fiona, and I'm a third year (well, until my exams finish on the 1st of November) BA student at Vic. This'll be my third Nano and, with luck, my second win. I intend not to write 17,000 words in two days this year. We shall see. The plan is to write some sort of epic fantasy novel, with quests and prophecies and things, but I may revert to Merlin fanfic if it goes badly.

Hi all,
I'm Cath, and this is going to be my first NaNoWriMo experience. I signed up a few years ago but never actually had the gumption to follow through and start writing!

I work full time, am currently training 9-10 hours a week for triathlon, I play netball and I volunteer for some work-related stuff once a week. I also love to cook healthy food. It's hard fitting everything in as it is, but I've thought about doing NaNoWriMo so many times, and there never will be a perfect time to do it! So here goes. Plus it seems like all of us here have very full lives, so why couldn't I squeeze something more in, just like all of you are! :)

I have no plot, just a vague idea. About to head to the library and do some research/planning to hopefully come up with something a bit more firm than a vague idea. :)

This is my second attempt, the last one was a failure despite all the use a talking cactus hallucination fillers and flashback tangents. This time I decided to attempt something easy and went for scifi, and as usual my characters wrangled my plot from me a twisted it into something confusing, sometimes creepy and full of hallucinations that may not actually be hallucinations. Also there will be floating in sky islands, and flying fungi whales and clones and pirates and ghosts. Its gunna be fun.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hey all! I'm Alice and this will be my first Nano and quite frankly I'm freaking out about it. I have never written so many words before, and I actually haven't written a story in years. However that's a big part of why I'm doing this, as I love writing and I really want to force myself to get back into it.

I'm third year Design at Massey and luckily will be finished up by the end of this week. I have no idea what I'll be writing about, a few silly ideas are flying around my head at the moment but no plan is set. This also worries me! :P

I'm really keen to meet everyone though, however I'm at Armageddon at the time of the kick off but will be at the other events/meets! :D

Heya Jamie... I couldn't believe it when I read when you're at Massey! I work in the library on the Wellington campus, so I may have even kicked the photocopiers back into action for you... small town huh?

Good luck with your honours stuff, I hope that it's not been too exhausting for you! And I'm sure that I'll see you either in the library or at one of the Nano events.

I'm cottreau, aka Travis Cottreau, one of Wellington's ML's. I am SO looking forward to Nano this year. Can't wait for the meet-ups and to meet all the new people taking part.

I will hopefully see many of you on Sunday at the kick off at Meow!

Talk soon.

Greetings fellow NaNo-ers! My name is Tim, and I'm a nerd-a-holic. :L

I've attempted NaNo four times in a row now, and this year will finally be the year I'll succeed! (Oh dear god please let it be so)
I've previously been in shakey Christchurch until the beginning of March when I moved up here and eventually got a full time job doing iPhone programming, so this year will be a real challenge, but with a whole month's worth of planning under my belt, I'm bound to succeed!
Plus, having a region where there's more than just three other people at the meets really helps, lol.
Can't wait to join in with you all as much as possible and to make some friends to tackle this year's word challenge and beyond!

(Also, just FYI, Courtzie (The pink haired one) is my fiance :3)

Hi all, I'm Jess.

I'm actually an Upper Hutt resident but should hopefully make it in to town to meet up with people at some stage.
I'm a Secondary School teacher so I have a lot going on next month with senior exams starting, junior exams, marking exams and essays, not to mention the dreaded report writing (the absolute worst part of the job). November will be manic but I am trying to set an example for my students so they will hopefully keep me on track. I have managed to get some of my Year 9 and 10 boys excited and participating as well so that should help.

Last year I failed completely but I have planned and sketched out this years novel as well as setting aside this weekend for research into the facts I'm not sure about yet so it won't be so tough for me to stay on track.

You don't happen to be the person I met at Armageddon once (years ago) that writes comics do you? I'm talking 2008 here though haha!

Yeah I am really hoping to come on Sunday to Meow. Trying to convince a friend to go with me though as I'm rather shy at such events! We've also still got Exhibition set up to organise too unfortunately, so it depends on how much we've managed to get done on that by Sunday.

Another Upper Huttite here (is that what we are? I've never worked it out), this is my first go at NaNo. I've never written anything at all longer than about 5000 words, and I'm bloody hopeless at just writing instead of fussing over every little thing and getting caught up because I can't phrase something the way I want. I figured NaNo seemed like a perfect fit for me.

I don't like my chances of getting anywhere near the target and I'm not likely to be at any of the meet ups, but hi everyone anyway.

I'm Sonja,

Lived in Wellington almost all of my life, currently (and essentially always in the past) in the company of several cats.
I've written before, but never for any specific purpose; nor towards a goal of the sheer magnitude that is nano - I don't think the realisation of enormous difficulty has quite sunk in...
I have a small series of high school exams in the coming couple of weeks, but to be honest I'm not that worried about them, and after they're over I'll be free to pursue novelling to my heart's content.
As above, probably will not be at the meet-ups - being vaguely apprehensive of new people (as nice as you all seem), unless I can persuade my fellow friend (who does not appear to have made herself known as yet) to attend also.

Hi!

I'm Esme. I'm terrible at introductions. If you were at the kick-off you may have seen me - I had Play-Doh. I will bring more in future since apparently I'm not the only person over 3 who likes it.

Um um um. My novel idea changed completely last night, which is nice but frightening. I'll be at as many meet-ups as I can and will also be posting the times and places I'll be novelling around town throughout the month if you want to come join.

This is my third or maybe fourth year trying NaNo and it will be my first year finishing it. Just wait and see.

Um um um. That's it, I think. Toodles!

This is my 2nd NaNo attempt after giving up around the 8000 word mark (of a pile of crap) last year. The demands of a newborn baby made for a pretty good excuse. This year he's just over one, and in a pretty good routine, so it's up to me really to pull myself together and churn out 50,000 turgid words ...

I have a vague plot in mind, and if it all turns pear-shaped, then I'll just release the zombies ...

Good luck to you all and have fun.
Cheers.

I've done NaNiWriMo twice in the past, putting my honours in English Literature to some use, and I'm looking forward to doing so again this year. I know filibyte, Ruptunex, and Ghettomould in real life and can vouch for them all being super swell people.

Probably planning to write terrible science fiction this year, possibly on purpose. A friend of mine has a father that self published a book about space-travelling ferrets, so I might try and top that. ;)

Good luck to all and I hope you all enjoy the ride!

Hi! I'm UnarmouredOwl or Rowan if you perfer. I'm a philosophy/classics major at Victoria Uni with a minor in English Studies. This is my first NaNoWriMo and my main goal is to reach 50k and write a story that I would like to read. The novel I am attempting will be the first I've ever written and I'm always up for criticisms and feedback on my work, so don't be afraid to approach me!
I know I'm not the only one of my friends from Wellington doing this, so I hope they stop by to say hello in this thread too!

Hello! I'm Nikki. I the stupid one who decided to do NaNo last night and I'm still a student in college. :D I'm flying no plot, no character, no nothing and it's great fun at the moment! This is my ... third NaNo, I guess? November last year and JulNo/CampNaNo earlier this year. I have never completed but I feel this may be it this time round. I couldn't stand the thought of not being in on the fun so I made a last minute decision last night. XD

The title of my novel is 'The Mysterious Adventures of Charlotte Amira and The Hole' and I have absolutely no idea where it's going. But YA, somewhere.

I'm hoping to pop by to a write-in sometime at least, if not only to grab a sticker or two. XD Good luck to everyone!

Hi there

My name's Grace, and this is my first NaNoWriMo. I decided to attempt it whilst working full time, completing several last minute uni assignments and studying for two exams - hello my fellow Massey students :) - which is nuts but I haven't had much time to write lately because life keeps getting in the way so I've decided to attempt it regardless of the really bad timing. It will be a real challenge to get it done but I'm hoping it will give the creative juices a good boost and I'm used to late nights attempting to up word counts so hopefully I can put all those hours of practice to good use.

Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone,

I'm Cushla and I'm doing this for the first time. Really looking forward to it! My aims are simple: high word count, don't care about the quality, chase the story, can edit it for beauty and sense later. I usually write short stories and poems, so this will really stretch my writing endurance muscles!

Hi,
My name's Zahra, I'm a newbie this year. I've never finished a novel before, so hopefully this will work as a good incentive. I'm 15 so I'm still in College and I've got exams next week which I really should be studying for... but of course, writing is my top priority...
Anyway, good luck everyone!

Can't remember if I remembered to put anything here this year or not... Darryn (aka D') here. I've been NaNoing since 2002, always with success, just not always 50'000 words worth of success. I often find I miss a lot of the social niceties of November due to spending that time writing instead, but I'll do my utmost to make my presence known this year.
Interestingly, I'm trying to juggle it with performing in a show (Spamalot! Come and see it!)

The down side: I won't be making it to Sunday meetups for the first half of the month due to rehearsals!
Co-incidentally I am also involved in this show, and can full-heartedly and with total unashamed bias recommend that if there's one writing break you take this month, it's to come and see this. It's pants-wettingly funny. Tickets can be found at iticket.co.nz

That's all for now. Keep up the good work everyone!

Hey! I'm here in spirit this year!
I'm living over in London, partly because I am still being haunted by those bloody necrophile ducks I was given at a Wellington meetup back in 09. I'm 'that girl with the caffeine tattoo'.
I seem to be writing dystopian fantasy again. It is bleak and dreary this time because I'm in a bleak and dreary country rather than sat in the Welly sun outside Memphis Belle drinking the best coffee in the world...damn I miss their coffee.

Hey everyone,
This is my second Nano after completing it (just) in 09. I spent the last two days pretty much writing non stop to make it. This year I'm already off to a good start but I have realised that my novel will not get to 50,000 words so it looks like I'm writing two. At the moment the second one will be set in Wellington.
Good Luck!!

Perhaps a little late, but what the heck. I'm Andrew, aka Icarus or IcarusForde or any variation of those. I've just finished my first year of university at Victoria, studying psychology and media, so I'm sticking around till the end of my hostel term and heading out of Wellington halfway through November... But it's still home, so this is my region!

First NaNoWriMo, so we'll see how this goes... I'm generally a bit of a prolific reader than a writer, but I have written before and edited a few books, so perhaps I'll have to set aside the printed books and highlighters and actually write one of my own for a change. Here goes!

Ello, ello.

I'm a bad, naughty NaNoer, haven't put myself forward for the online meet and greet or the in-the-flesh one until now, But here I am on Introduce Yourself and will be joining the gang at Meow one of these days.
I had just started a demanding contract. Doing it or die this year! But I still don't know what I'm writing about. I badly need a copy of Chris Baty's 'No Plot, no Problem".

And what a pity this introduction doesn't count for tonight's words!

Look forward to meeting you all.

Whoa, sorry it's taken so long to reply! Urm... I don't think that I was your Armageddon person, as I wasn't writing comix (or much of anything) in the dark old days of 2008.

Still, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone (eventually, although my stupid life seems to be taking over my novel writing time a bit at the moment, the ghastly thing, plus I'm majorly at the stage where I'm bored as hell with my characters, plot, settings and pretty much everything except sticking post-it notes with rude words on my forehead), so I'm sure that we'll run into each other eventually.... :)

Hope your exhibition set up went well, I'm going up to see it all this week - it's always so great to see the final work after watching y'all slog away at it all year.

Oh I see. I wonder who it was that I met. My memory is like a sieve, so I can't recall the name of the person I met unfortunately.

Yes my schedule has been rather hectic too. What with exhibition, moving out of a flat, organising storage...etc etc. I was hoping to come to the Sunday Meow event tomorrow but my little brother texted me saying he was up from Dunedin and wanted to play board games with us tomorrow! Ah, filial duties!

Ah well, there is always next week I suppose. :)

If you're bored with your story, perhaps you could introduce a radical change: Dusk till Dawn style. It's Nano after all, an excuse if ever there was one to go a little insane haha.

Damn, that's a good idea. Not so much for the story, I made a promise to myself not to write about goddamn vampires, but just to watch that movie again. Heehee... Tarantino. He's such a funny little bastard.

You totally win on the hectic front. I hate moving house, it fully sucks. But the family stuff sounds fun, hope you have a nice time playing board games! It's not going to be the weather for board games tomorrow (or so I hear, but this is Wellington after all, so it could all change in a heartbeat). What about coming to the Southern Cross on Wednesday?
