Thinking up titles is my weakness...

...and subject lines in forums.
Well, I joined a little late it looks like, but thats ok - after reading many of the posts I'm getting a real feel for what NaNo is about and I'll be prepared for next November. I like to write mysteries and horror and I have notes for quite a few projects and I'm about half way through the first draft of my first novel.

I hope to meet other people who share my interests and understand why writing is so important to me!

I've had some success with creating titles for people. Maybe I can help you. Let me know if you're interested.

I can completely sympathise!

I either come up with what I think is a cool title but with no plot, or a good plot and no title! I write a regular blog and people always comment that they enjoy the writing, but then the title of the post is an unimaginative "Train Journey Part I" or something like that!

In previous novels I've written I've found that the title doesn't come until the end of the writing process, or at least the first draft.

Howdy,

It's funny just what can inspire us and to what degree. I'm new here and when I signed up, I had an idea for one book and that was it. After spending much more time than I should have in the Adoption area (http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/adoption-society) , I came out with the chapter names for my first book and the names of the other two parts of the trilogy. It grew so much (giggity) just with the Adopt-a-Title forum. I didn't really know where the middle of my book was going, but I found so many amazing suggestions for titles. I started thinking of my characters and whammo...it just started clicking into place.
My point was that other people's ideas, especially when they put them out there specifically for other people to use, really is an amazingly productive process.

Just my two cents worth!

My title was ??? until randomly I forced myself to create one. I don't know if it's a good one, but I like it!
Also I would never write a title before writing/planning a large part of the story, I find it better to name it retroactively.

Usually, to come up with a title, I write out my plot and stuff, and look for keywords. Then I mess around with those.*

*Note: I've never actually done this for anything I've written… only for things other people have written. :P

I swear the title is the hardest part...except maybe the beginning.
Regardless, my sister is the brains on both accounts. I seriously can never think of one I like! I'm actually suffering from that problem right now on the book I'm going to write when November comes.
