Continuing after the end of November

Hi everyone, complete and utter newbie here. According to the site, I am a grand total of 24 hours old!

Sorry if my question has been asked 10000 times before. I promise, I looked for it in all the threads I could think to.

Is the goal to write 50,000+ words in a month, or finish a 50,000+ word novel in a month? Like, what if I reach 50,000 words by the end of November, but haven't finished? Do I still 'win', and just continue in my spare time? Or must the novel finish in order for me to 'win'?

My understanding is that you must write 50,000+ words during the month of November to "win."
