Novel Editing Procrastinators Club

Who else is procrastinating to edit their novel?
I know that's what I should be doing right now, but... I am at heart a procrastinator. I probably won't get around to editing until mid-January. *sigh*

Anyone want to join the club?

I was doing this for a while but I find that my inner procrastinatrix can be easily bait-and-switched. As long as there's something I want to do even *less*, I can use the first thing i was procrastinating on to procrastinate on the new thing.

Which is the real reason I've finally started editing. Better to edit than to dwell on stupid boys! My novel is my happy distraction for the moment.

I haven't started yet because I didn't even finish my novel until the middle of December. Last night about 30 minutes past midnight I turned to my friend and said "I just had a horrible realization. I told myself I would start editing after December...And it's not December anymore!" DX Editing is this huge monster staring me in the face waiting to be possessed by my inner editor so they can work together to devour me.

Ha! I'm still typing my novel! Becuase of this lovely thing called school, I was forced to write it all (or most of it) in a notebook, and type it at home, however, I fell behind on my typing, and I am now paying dearly for it. And even better, I lost like 10,000 words! Uggg so that took my typed word count from 35,000 down to 25,000! Yeah! And I hardly ever have time to work on it! Can I join!

I'd even had ideas already what things I definitely have to change. Thing is, I can't do that right now due to my health. /: Also, I have to look up first what to do and blah, you know. Get some knowledge about the whole editing thing.

Also, I don't even know why I should do it. Alright, a lot of people told me they were interested in my novel. Even people I don't know. So I guess the plot itself sparks at least some interest. But I don't know if they meant "I want to read it online but would never waste money on it" or "I would buy it if it was published".
Another problem: Say, if I really spent my time editing and rewriting this thing until it looks like a proper novel ... I still have the problem that I live in a german speaking country but wrote my novel in English. And I don't want to translate it myself since meh, my characters speak English in my head and I tried writing this in German and failed.
/: This gets me down again.

Count me in. I'm all so anxious to get it capital-D Done and slap a query letter on it and start sending it on its way, but I know it needs at least one more good pass, and you know, you only have so many of those in you before you're just burnt out on the whole endeavor, and it's so much easier not to start than it is to start and run out of gas before you finish.
I totally understand this!!!

I really need to actually finish mine before I can really start editing it, but every time I sit down and go "Right, writing time!", I get distracted by something. It's compounded by the fact that all I've got left to write is the big climax (which I am terrified of writing) and then the fallout, which is where the novel ends. I reckon it's a case of maybe another 10/15k, which seems like nothing, but it's been just sitting there for over a month!!

I, sadly, won't ever be joining this club, at least with this novel. Finishing the first draft is the extent of my plans for it. The plot is so terribly flawed (I actually thought I could wing 80,000 words) that the only thing it's good for is practice. However, I have high hopes for my upcoming fantasy novel, so maybe I'll see you all in a few months in this club.

OK, a club I can easily be a member of. I'm still editing my novel which means I do it 2 or 3 times a week. Why? Strangely enough, I'm afraid of publishing it.

Now, don't get me wrong. I won't send this novel to a publisher or even to an agent. I'm considering self-publishing or putting it for free on the Internet. And that's what makes me unable to do what needs to be done.

I had the same problem with another novel I put on the Internet four years ago. It was as much fun as going to the dentist to have all my teeth pulled out.

Writing is great, publishing... well, that's another story.

Me when I first started editing my current project: oh this is gonna be easy, let me draw out a timeline, can't wait to reread my older stuff.

Me a mere 30-odd pages into editing: I hate my characters, why can't I just skip to the sex scenes, good lord I use too many helping verbs, these plot holes make my eyes hurt.

For those looking to procrastinate I suggest a google search of Writer Leopard, English Major Armadillo, and Lit Major Lemur.
