Have you ever...
Has anyone begun to read their novel, in a rough form, out loud? I just started to do that in the last couple of days, and wow...is it aweful! Thank you Nano for making me avoid contractions to get the word count, but man...I have to fix those!

I actually think I read part of it out loud while actually writing. Must be because I didn't write it in my native language and reading it out loud helps when I'm unsure about how a sentence sounds or if it makes sense at all, and so on.
Then again, I didn't read all of it out loud ... might as well do that while editing. :'D (I still have to get a dicitionary for my OpenOffice or another program that actually shows me incorrect words ... my OpenOffice has quite the lacking dictionary. Abbreviations are always shown as incorrect. It doesn't even know that 'travelling' is written with two 'l' ... *facepalm*)

Just so you know, in the U.S. the correct spelling is "traveling." I think OpenOffice was made in the U.S., so that may be why you're having problems. :)

Lolwhat. I'm still having a hard time with all that different spelled stuff. I'd really love if english words would have one spelling only. I guess I have to look for a british English dictionary for my OpenOffice. Which I already suspected. The thing is, you get taught British English in most european countries. If not all of them. I might as well stick to that.
(Fyi, while we people in Austria speak a slightly different German than people in Germany or Switzerland, the spelling still is the same for every word. Except maybe Zwetschgen, but that's a special case.)
Btw, I bet you guys use things like "could've" while writing ... OpenOffice has no clue about this as well. /: That upsets me a bit.
