Okay, so I got the go ahead from Dragonchilde to try and separate the fanfiction thread a little bit to make it easier for everyone to find their posts. :D

So feel free to go ahead and discuss your anime/manga related fics here!!! If you're writing a crossover that involves an anime/manga and another type of fandom (i.e. books, movies, etc.), feel free to post about it here as well (or in the other thread it goes with) :)

I just thought that this might separate it just enough that it's easier to keep conversations going and for finding the fanfics that interest you.

Best of luck on your fics!

Yay! A special place for us!
I'm doing a Katekyo Hitman Reborn fanfic again this year. I just love it sooooo much.
It's based more on the anime than the manga, simply because I own the entire series and am watching it right now for... INSPIRATION!!! (and to get the characters in my head)
It's set a few years after the end of the anime, and is focused around a couple of new types of rings. (NOT new flames, just new rings)
It will be Xanxus/(F)OC, because Xanxus is a sexy beast, and I'll probably slash a bunch of the guys together because I'm a huge pervert.... Hibari/Yamamoto anyone?
Anyway, the plot is still pretty holey, but I''m wotking on it...

I'm actually writing a Hetalia fanfiction and I'm extremely excited about it!
It's a UkUS because I'm just that obsessed with my homecountry and my favourite country getting together ^^
Completely an AU that needed to be written and what better time than to write it during NaNoWriMo? =]

Oh, I'm writing a Hetalia fanfic, too! I'm super ready for it. Mine is a UKUS/USUK one, too, because they're what I affectionately call "my boys" and I love them together to no end.

It made me really happy and excited to see I wasn't the only one with this pairing in mind. I don't know why, exactly, it just really did. xD

Sign me up for Hetalia, too, haha! I've noticed quite a few writers in the fandom preparing for November, so I decided to give it a go with my own AU, which also happens to be USUK (although, this alternate universe focuses more on Alfred and Arthur's friendship as young teenagers rather than romance). :'D I'm another Hetalia fanfic writer, and shockingly enough I'm not writing slash even though I /adore/ all the other fanfic snippets I've seen so far!

For me, it's just a simple human AU in which Belarus and Elizaveta are roommates in their university years, and their daily shenanigans involving lots of alcohol, a few baked cakes and various romantic adventures (excluding Russia who despite his dear sister's attempt to bond, keeps changing his phone number).

Writing it out here actually makes me wonder if this is going to work out after all fffff.

Kahlan the Dream Spirit
15034 words so far

I have the utmost confidence in you! And I love that Russia keeps changing his phone number.

I probably would've done slash, but I couldn't find anything to use that would seem natural in the pacing instead of just tossed in there by a yaoi fangirl. (Well, there is this ONE bit that's actually historically accurate, but I'm having troubles with that alone and it kind of needs to be in there, haha.) Thanks to all the research I had to do last month (and that I'm still having to do; ffff), I now realize why people all tend to write AUs.

merubear
28705 words so far

O-oh why thank you! <3

I know how you feel about the pacing, and to be honest a big part of me not writing slash is because I've never experienced a situation in which people come out and what happens after that, so I don't want to portray anything that might be offensive, fffff. And oh god, historical research lkdfjgn ide. Good luck to the both of us though!

I'm doing Fruits Basket and about ready to pop in anxiety to get started. It's YukixTohru (My personal favorite pairing) and also a turnaround for Akito as far as her personality.

Akito is annoyed with how much the rest of his Zodiac seem so enamoured with Tohru and how they all seem to love her so much (this is beacuse she's normal and accepts them anyway even though they're strange and dysfunctional *giggle*) and is detirmined not to have them love her more than him. Knowing he can't save them all, however, he decides to at least gain one of them back for himself. One night, he goes to Shigure's house and demands that Yuki returns to the main house with him. Tohru seeing his fear and knowing that going with Akito would utterly ruin Yuki, volunteers to go instead. The other Sohma are incapable of stopping it from happening when Akito accepts. The following day Tohru is locked in away in the dark room at the main house and subjected to Akito's whim, her only hope of ever leaving being if Akito decides to release her.

Meanwhile, it becomese Yuki's mission to get her away from Akito in any way he can, no matter what it takes. (Fluff ensues of course.)

Angsty, fluffy, and a little violent. My cup of hot chocolate, right there.

Yuugiou writer here!

Writing two fics, since I'm prone to boredom.

One is a slice-of-life AU BakuMali/Thiefshipping fic that involves the various shenanigans that occur after the two drunkenly hook-up on Bakura's birhday. And his seemingly hopeless quest to pay Ryou, his landlord, his months overdue rent.

The other is BakuBaku/Tendershipping, and also AU, but much darker. In it, Bakura is a struggling writer who churns out cheap prose everyday in Ryou's bakery and coffee-shop. But when Bakura begins his work on his magnum opus, a dark tale of a cursed thief in ancient Egypt, he begins to have surreal dreams involving the young man. Yet, the horrors he sees soon refuse to stay just dreams...

Despite these summaries, I'm winging the plot, fufufu~

@CaseyAzalea: haha, thanks!! It's going to be so tough trying to give it a happy ending though. Most Tendershipping I write is so depressing, an since it's AU I want to try to end it on a happy note, if not at least bittersweet.

I'm already giving too many of the characters horrific endings. ( ;´Д`)

Strike Witches! I'm writing fifty years after the anime timeline, with a set of my own characters backed up by the elderly original cast. I absolutely adore SW, it's like this ridiculous perfect moe-storm of WW2 military chic, oversized guns, magical girls, mimi, yuri, unashamed fanservice...♥ ♥ ♥

*Ahem*.

I don't write much fanfic, and this is definitely the most ambitious project I've gone for. I've written a little Gurren Lagann (to give Viral the happy ending he deserved - I never liked that he gets ignored when they hand out the epilogues) and Black Lagoon (to find out what Rock and Revi's kids would look like). Guess I just like time-skips. Oh, and I sort of count my previous year's NaNo as fanfic, too. "What if Hamlet was a yuri boarding-school drama?" It was somewhere between MariMite and Utena, and great fun to write. Plus when everyone died at the end, it was Shakespeare's fault, not mine. Guilt free, baby!

This time around, I've got a loose plot sorted, I'm working on a scene list, need to write up a couple more supporting characters. Then I just need to assign underwear to my new witches and I'm set. : D

I'll be doing a sequel to a Digimon Fan Fiction I just completed earlier this month.. It takes place in season two with the main focus on Takeru and Patamon. The main villain Digimon is an OC as he was in the first part of this Fan Fiction and I have a couple other OC's in it as well that some appeared in the first part while others will now just be showing up though they where mentioned in the first part..

Basically it's about Takeru believing the evil Digimon that was attacking him was completely defeated in the first part. He goes back to his (almost) normal life only to find out not only has the evil Digimon resurfaced in a new form, but this time he is a lot more dangerous and unlike last time he won't hesitate to use any of Takeru's friends in order to get what he wants which is to kill Takeru and erase Patamon forever. The main trouble I am having with the second part is figuring out where the evil Digimon came from...

I think this is such a great idea. It's better to have three or four smaller threads, because you can (and will) spend a lot of time sifting through comments to find someone who's writing fan fiction for your favorite fandoms.

At the very last minute, I've decided to write a Sailor Moon fan fiction. The details are kind of sketchy right now, as I've only started outlining this week. (Okay, I started outlining about an hour ago. I'm taking a short break.) Basically, though, Mamoru learns his parents survived the car crash that supposedly made him an orphan, and his parents are still alive and well; his dad is a yakuza boss and his mother is the daughter of a higher-up yakuza boss. (It's possible her father is the oyabun, or *the* head boss, and perhaps her husband is expected to take his place. Again, I'm working on the details.) I'm still learning as much as I can about the yakuza, but I'm certain that sons are expected to follow in their fathers' footsteps, whereas the only woman who has any kind of status in the yakuza is the oyabun's wife. But when the car crash occurred, Mamoru's parents saw it as a way they could give him a life he deserved. A life that gave him choices, even if it meant being an orphan, rather than a life where he had to keep many secrets and be looked down upon by society.

Granted, in real life, that probably would not happen. Members of the yakuza are very devoted to their clans, although I *have* read a couple of accounts where the men asked to leave the yakuza because of the shame it brought their families. But this story is supposed to be about what parents will do to give their children the best lives as possible, and quote/unquote abandoning Mamoru was the hardest thing his parents ever did.

Seconding dusk_nightshade here; I'd read that.

I'm also writing Sailor Moon fanfic this year; originally I was planning to write original fiction, but the idea sank fangs into my brain and wouldn't leave. So here I am.

I've mentioned this a few times in other threads, but to give a more reasonable summary, it's a third-season AU based partially on the idea (brought up and abandoned a few times in the anime) of dimensional travel, not to mention the third season's persistent technobabble. The majority of the novel takes place in an alternate dimension, mostly parallel to the canonical timeline, in which the Sailor Senshi are fictional characters and magical girl teams are far more common--apparently a law of Conservation of Fuku applies. Among these magical girl teams is the Witches 5.

I imagine Sailor Moon veterans can see where this is going from here.

Kaolinite's head explodes; hilarity and violence ensue; sabotage runs rampant; lessons about friendship and teamwork are ignored; Magical Girl cliches are parodied poorly; CEOs team up with evil gods to drain the universe of creativity; Sailor V is incarnated in the body of a very surprised cosplayer; magical girlhood is isolated and sold in disposable syringes; Inventor's Block is suffered from, indirectly causing bystanders to suffer; and time travel is shown to be a very bad idea.

All of this proves, I suspect, that Sailor Moon--in defiance of my efforts to write a serious, dark AU in which the Death Busters make some hard choices--naturally tends toward the extremely silly. (Or perhaps that's just me. I'm not sure which possibility I'd prefer.)

I'm also writing YuGiOh this year. Well... again. I usually write puppyshipping, but this year I'm doing azureshipping because it got into my head and won't let go.

My basic plot is that Kaiba is upset that he can't win a duel against Yugi even without the help of the Pharaoh so he decides to win the girl that Yugi is pining over instead. He doesn't intend to get so involved himself, but things never turn out the way you expect. (Also, there is a reason I don't tend to write het and it shows up in this story... but it's in my head so I'll have to go with it.)

The story probably won't be that good and I'll probably never post it anywhere, but at least it will be out of my system. :/

I'll work on a couple of fanfics I wanna bring to an end, especially some Fullmetal Alchemist ones.
Last year it all started out innocently with just one FMA-fanfic that I intended to be about Light Novel-length, and all of a sudden (or rather: after extended research in the local library's alchemy and physics-department ) there was a second and after that even a third fanfic that now form a somewhat loose trilogy, though I intend all of them to remain standalones at the same time. I don't know what's gotten into me to do this, but hey, I like a challenge.

Three other fanfics are for Saiyuki (an old idea I really need to get out of my head now), Bleach (an intermission piece before the time skip) and ao no exorcist (because I can't help myself.)

So ya, it's gonna be bloody.

I've been juggling possibilities of what I could possibly write for this year, and I've decided on a plot bunny that's been in my mind ever since reading a Fate/Stay Night story by Third Fang (author of Yet Again with a little Extra Help) titled "From Fake Dreams" and "Four Swords," by Deviate's Fish.

It's a Fate/Stay Night fanfic centering on the petite swordswoman, Arturia Pendragon, more popularly known as Saber. The concept behind both stories I've referenced comes into play here: the "Revelation of all 3 Scenarios through dreams" in From Fake Dreams, and the "Summoning of a different Saber" in Four Swords.

Simply put, Saber is once more summoned into the 5th Holy Grail War, but other timelines have already finished their events of the war, returning the Heroic Spirit's soul to the Throne of Heroes with her memories, but due to a slight slip in the cosmos or an unknown factor somehow causing a glitch in the timelines to converge for just a moment (a moment that can go on forever when it's outside the Axis of Time), a fourth scenario opened up and Saber had been gifted with the memories of her counterparts from the first 3 scenarios. She'll have the memories of Saber from the Fate scenario, feeling the unmistakable love she has of Shirou. She'll have the memories of Saber from the Unlimited Blade Works scenario, reeling in disgust and humiliation at what Caster had done to her during her captivity. She'll have the memories of Alter Saber from the Heaven's Feel scenario, feeling remorse and self-hatred at the injustice the darkness had made her do.

I already have a fitting title for this. "Servant SABER: Fate, Blade, and Heaven."

And while I know that Fate/Stay Night should be considered in the video game section, I believe it's more fitting that it's included here. I was exposed to FSN from the anime first before the visual novel, then the movie (which was a rushed summation of the UBW scenario, imo). I'd be lying if I said the Fate/Zero anime had no involvement for my willingness to write this fanfiction story.

Well, it's already November 1st in my part of the world, so it's better I get to writing my daily quota up before going to sleep.

Good luck to everyone else!

P.S.

Any other writers out there going for an FSN story for NaNoWriMo?

Teikku
62249 words so far Winner!

Oooooh Fate/Stay Night, love. We (I & SO) just started Fate/zero, seen the first two episodes. I haven't read the visual novel, played the game or seen the movie, so I'm a bit off on what you're going to write. But sounds really interesting, never the less!

JamJackEvo
11074 words so far

The visual novel is a very insightful experience for someone who has watched the anime. If I were to compare the two, I'd say the anime didn't give the visual novel justice when adapting the storyline (mixing tidbits from the Unlimited Blade Works scenario, too, which just added background info that could be ignored). There were many points missed and explanations that were rushed due to time restraints. It's a common problem for many anime adaptations.

Not to mention the plot twists in each scenario. Saber's true identity in Fate. Archer's true identity in Unlimited Blade Works. Sakura's true identity (and origins, which has already been alluded to in the Fate/Zero anime's 1st episode) in Heaven's Feel. They spice up the FSN story every time. Now armed with all three events from the 3 scenarios, Saber is not about to let things go as they are.

I may be writing a psychological Pokémon fanfic I've been wanting to write for over a decade. I'm still debating, though! I've wanted to write this forever and my original ideas are all pretty vague. My first four NaNoWriMo experiences I did original fanfiction, but I've always considered writing this instead.

Do you guys find it embarrassing to admit that you're writing fanfiction for NaNo? I have nothing against fanfiction, it's what got me seriously into writing in the first place, but I do feel like saying I'm writing a Pokémon fanfic kind of delegitimizes me as a writer. Even though this fanfic happens to be very serious and actually pretty messed-up.

Ahhh, I have less than nine hours to decide! Time to whip out the old sketchbook and start mapping out my various ideas and seeing what I think.

I'm leaning towards this fanfic, though, just because I already love it and I've wanted to get it out for so long.

kat716

I don't have any problem at all admitting I write fanfics. I've read fanfics out there there are better than some of the "real" books I own.
I think in some ways it's actually more intimidating/difficult to work in someone else's universe, and portray their characters accurately.
I usually write semi-AUs, so I have a mix of canon and original characters. That way, I can write my main character from scratch. (I know some people hate reading these stories, and I say to you... :P...)
In the end, fanfiction is still writing.

Amaritage
50339 words so far Winner!

I don't because for one I realize that writing fanfiction is just practice for me until I am comfortable enough with writing to try and tackle my original work. It also gives me time to add things to the world that I am creating while at the same time gives me the ability to practice and hone my writing skills because before I started writing FanFiction I did a LOT of stupid things when it came to writing. Not to mention the errors within it spelling and otherwise.

Like kat716 said it is more intimidating/difficult to write in someone's else's universe because in your own work you don't have to worry about angry fan girls or fan boys attacking you throw comments and other ways. In other ways it also makes it easier because you only have to mainly focus on telling the story you don't really have to worry about making your own characters if you don't want to and the world is already there for you all you have to do is change it slightly to fix your story. Of course there is always the fact that you can change the world upside down and start fresh but hey at least you can pick up some of the pieces of the floor and use them xD

PacificPikachu

Thanks, both of you! I have no problem writing fanfiction, or telling people I write fanfiction, but for some reason when it comes to NaNo I get a bit shyer about it. I'm not sure why! I guess I just don't want to be seen as immature or silly, but ultimately it doesn't matter. That said, I've written original pieces four years in a row, and I think it owe it to myself to finally write this story I've been dying to write for so many years. Might as well write something I adore, right? I know I'll have a great time working on it and be proud to have finished it.

I agree that fanfiction can be better than many published books, and that it can be more challenging in some ways. I've read some truly incredible fanfiction in my days!

shuriken7
50028 words so far Winner!

I agree with what the other two in front of me said. I love writing fanfiction because it's flexible and you can get good feedback about your style, as well. Since the fandom shares the same characters, people know if you aren't doing well because the characterization will be all wonky. I hadn't written for years and this year I decided I would. I picked up fandom and started to write. It's been great and has really gotten me back in the mood and the discipline (since I try to write at least once a week now). It is getting me geared up to write my own stuff and knowing that my style isn't terrible. I have improved a great deal as a writer because of fanfiction.

No way fanfics delegitimise you as a writer. If you think about it, there are lots of published fanfics. Pride and Prejudice with Zombies. The rewrite of the Wizard of Oz that eventually led to the musical Wicked. Too many parodies to count.

Besides, if people thought I was delegitimised in some way for producing (for example) masterpieces like Digital Skitty's Pedestal, CorianderWryters' Revelations: A Cynic's View of Pokemon and even Pokemon Revolution I would just be like screw you I'm onto something winning here, and I can easily apply this to original fiction.

I'm going to write Tiger&Bunny fan fiction. Before this I've done two ficlets (FMA & FFVII), so I'm quite anxious and a bit excited. And for the past 4 years I've written in my mother tongue (Finnish), but this year I switched to English, so I'm excited. And terrified. Mostly terrified.

It's AU, and I don't know exactly what will happen. I have scribbled something that resembles a plot. And a lot of small things. Yikes. I also wanted to add Noire to the title, but the working name isn't quite what I want, since the place and timeline are different. I have imagined Sternbild based in Chicago rather than in New York. I hope I'll come up with a better title soon. Anyway, Kotetsu is a retired detective working as a private investigator, and he get's a job, to find a woman. Bunny is.. I know what, but if I told you it would spoil the story. Plus I don't know yet how to bring him into the story.
