This is my first time doing this sort of thing and i was wondering if this is a possible thing for a novle and im not quite sure what i mean by possible becuse i already have four short stories down.
Has it been done that there is a book of a collection of short stories in one book by only one author? the sort of books like that i have seen were by many authors.
I suppose im asking if this has been done before and if its accepted.
I'm doing the same thing. I have a main character and each story will be an event or adventure in her life. They'll basically be fictionalized accounts of things that have happened in my life, during the past two years or so.
Mini stories by one person. Yes. I'm writing amusing essays from life. So, guess this is my genre. Have no clue about the possibilities of publication... but I am having a blast.
I've been researching for my story and I found several little stories that could fit in the same "universe" but cannot be included in the main story (for several reasons). So my initial though was to put them on my website as "appetizers" or whatever.

It's certainly possible (and qualifies for nanowrimo), but I've heard that short story collections are quite hard to publish until you're somewhat famous. However, if you tie it tightly together, it may be marketable as a "novel in short stories."
For example, like itsonlymemories above, if you have the same set of characters, and some or all of them grow over the course of the set of stories, it's tied together pretty snugly.
More loosely, you could have sci fi or fantasy stories all set in the same universe, like Finniemc above.
Similarly, you can invent a small town and people it with short stories that intersect here and there.
Many posibilities, but unless it could pretty much pass as a novel, it'll be a hard sell to agents and publishers. If you don't care about agents and publishers, go for it with reckless abandon. :) Or go for it anyway, and sell it to a publisher after you've sold a couple other books. :)
I love writing mini stories. I'm not doing it this year but I hope my novel next year will be based primarily off of stories that all involve one of my favorite characters. I love exploring his life. It's so fun, I think in some ways you can get connected with a character on a more personal level when you do a bunch of mini-stories with them.
Er, there's a lot of collections of short stories by the same author. Frequently, they're printed sometime after the stories have already been published, separately, in magazines and whatnot.

Re: Mini stories all by one person
I immediately thought of the Canterbury Tales. It's a collection of stories from one narrator.
