As ever, I am going to be writing fanfiction this year. For YuGiOh.
But I'm in a little bit of a quandry as I normally write Seto/Jou, but this year all I have spinning around my head is a Seto/Anzu - and that's not a pairing I'm really into.
So do I go with what's in my head, or go for the plot I was originally intending to write? I guess I have a couple of weeks to decide. *sigh*
Aha! This is also my third year doing YGO for NaNoWriMo. The first year was a Seto/Jou crossed over with Ranma 1/2, the second time was just a Seto/Jou story with half of it being set in Ancient Egypt and the second half being in the modern day. (I still haven't finished this one. I should get back to it sometime.)
This years, as I said above, is giving me a problem. I'm currently coming down on the side of writing the Seto/Anzu that is actually in my head, but I had originally planned to write Seto/Jou...
Thief King Bakura/Malik/Anzu? LOL, that does sound like crack. Props to you if you can pull it off. ^_^
Nice! :D I'm kind of in love with Anzu/Bakura (or Anzu/Ryou) and my novel this year is just that! Excited to know someone else out there likes the pairing!
That's awesome! I love YGO, I don't write it much but it's definitely one of my fav's to read. Seto/Jou is by far the best though Seto/Anzu is still really good! Good luck on your writing!!!
I'll keep that in mind. I warn you though, they are joined by a rather rotund 40-something bent on raising Hell. (Me.) The fan-on grows from an annual USENET Challenge fan-fiction event where the person running it puts up challenges, the author puts up teams of three (well, four -- the author is part of the team), and tries to solve the challenge.
I'm doing fan fiction again this year myself. I seem to have better luck hitting the 50 k when I do. I'm doing Due South, Meg Thatcher centred fic. Gen with possible het shippy overtones, depending on how the characters behave.
I'll just sit here and go "Wow! Awesome!" at two aspects of your post:
1) That someone out there is *still* writing Due South fanfic - which is epic in and of itself as the last time I peeked into the fandom (on LJ at least) it looked to be sadly dying out and people moving onto new fandoms.
And
2) That icon. I like Meg and thought the actress that played her was really good but CKR had me at "Fraser! Buddy!" and I've never looked back. Ray K was a brilliant character and I love that pic of him in the icon.
So who else completed their fanfiction novel and was tickled at the thoughts of having a physical copy of it via the winner goodies at createspace only to realize they probably won't accept fanfiction at all?
Anyone figure out a way around this? I just want to hold a copy. I don't want to sell it. I just want it for meeeeee...

I looked into it, and the link they have that is supposed to be to 'submission requirements' doesn't talk about content at all. I wonder, since we're just making them for us & not for distribution, if it would be okay. I'd love to have copies of mine, too! Of course, that means I actually have to finish writing the story & type the whole thing up, since it's still not done even w/over 50k words, AND it's all hand-written...
I'm all over this thread. I'm doing Legend of Zelda fic this year, based on the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask mangas. :| I think it's trying to turn into a political mess on me instead of something awesome. :(
Oh, sure. ^_^ I'm basing it off the mangas, which state that A) Link was born to a noble house, who served the king as a knight and that B) Link's father died during a battle to unify Hyrule. So I can assume that Zelda's father is the one that unified Hyrule. Which means all these political alliances are new, shaky and prone to backstabbing. Gannondorf, of course, dabbles in the politics, trying undo the unification so he can march in and take over, since Link has taken off with the Ocarina of Time and the Triforce is out of his reach until Link comes back.
Which he does, seventeen years later, to find that Hyrule's on the brink of civil war again. :D
I read your synopsis, it sounds so cute and interesting! I'm writing a Kingdom Hearts Fanfiction too. I'd love to read your story if you finish it, and we should be writing buddies :) To help each other out on the KH fics!
GUYS, GUYS WE CAN WRITE "FANFICTION" IN OUR OTHER CATEGORY NOW. ISN'T THAT AWESOME!?
I'm excited to be writing fanfiction this year. Really, really excited. I get to revisit one of my all time favorite games, (Digital Devil Saga) and write one of my favorite pairings (Argilla/Jinana) and explore one of the best video game settings known to man. (JUNKYARD! :D)
I am so stoked to be writing it this year; I've been working on my outline, replaying the video game, and all that good stuff! It's going to be an awesome drama-action-romance ride this year. There will be cannibalism, and hindu symbolism, and angst, and angsty hindu cannibalism, and-
*incoherent babbling continues.*
Anyways, I'm excited to be writing with all you fine people!
OMG! Thank you for point that out! I dread the "Other" category, so I just picked "Fantasy" until I read your post. Now I'm officially declaring myself a fanfiction writer. Yay!
Kaysper: This. Is. Amazing. I just want you to know that. DDS is only super amazing wonderful awesome and all. If you ever need a beta reader around January... just sayin'.
Yay, someone else who has played the games! \o/ They are the most wonderful thing ever, I agree!
That'd be really cool if you'd want to read it when it's done; I wouldn't mind sending a copy if it turns out okay. (And, I have this really, really good feeling that it will be an enjoyable project.)
Once the buddy system is up and running again, I could also add you to the friends list, if you'd like!
Ooh, DDS fic! I've had DDS on the brain for months now. Argilla is awesome, and Jinana really deserved more than what she got. Would you mind sending me a copy of the fic once you finish it? :3
I would be happy to! I might want to possibly proof read it and get a few bugs out, but I love knowing there's more people out there who are fans of the game that would like to read it; gives me a ton of motivation to see it all the way through.
This one has been in the planning stages for um... eight years, give or take? And it's finally coming together, massively and splendidly. I may actually have a shot at lasting more than a week this year.
Fortunately for you, you'd lose that bet, as I'm writing ReBoot this year too! Tried it last year and while I got a lot of writing in, I never did finish it up.
I'm definitely excited and rooting for you! Wow, eight years of planning... So much potential! I'm curious as to what it is!
If you ever need a soundboard on anything ReBoot-related, or just want another fan to talk to, or want to get connected to other fans, or WHATEVER (whew), by all means, send me a line! (And this goes to any other ReBoot fans out there!)
(Please excuse my geeking out, I did NOT EXPECT THIS!)
It's an alternate season four, because I want to. Everybody's in it, it's got games and an ending and everything! I'm really excited about it because it's totally finally coming together.
I haven't exactly been planning for an entire eight years; the current version got started a couple of weeks ago, and there was a lot of sitting on the shelf gathering dust before that. I'm having a bit of trouble keeping all the characters busy, though, because it's been so long since I wrote for a cast of more than five.
My official strategy this year is "when stuck, drop a game cube!"
No one expects ReBoot, especially its fans! Haha poor little fandom.
S4 AU, huh? The title alone sounds pretty intriguing! I know how hard it is in a big project like NaNo to keep track of all those damn Mainframers, but it's totally, immensely gratifying when it all ties together and the various plots/characters finally make sense in the big picture. Which could be said of any writing project.
I like your strategy though. Versatile things, Game Cubes...
I'm doing Hetalia this year. Should be pretty exciting since the current news is filled with things I can use as potential backstory {like that Afghanistan allying with India thing.... going to have to re-do the map I've been working on ;-;}. This has been in the planning stage for almost 9 months now, and I can't wait to get started.
I mostly write Hetalia fanfiction, so that's probably what I'm going with this year. I have many crossover ideas, but I don't know if they're long enough...
I'm writing fanfiction for the first time since middle school. Hopefully, this one will be miles better. I'm not planning to write any original characters and everyone will stay as true to the way they were written as I can manage. It's going to be a prequel of sorts from the Harry Potter-verse. I only hope I can do Snape's character justice.
We need to talkkkkk~! I'm going back and forth between what I'm gonna write this year. (either way they are both getting done) One is a YA novel the other is Harry Potter-verse~! :D Mine takes place Mauraders era-trio's era. I'm always so terrfied about writing Snape. XD He's just so hard to capture!
The core of my story is, obviously, about how he went from weird kid to Death Eater. I think I'll be alright handling his relationship with Lily and being an outcast. What I'm worried about is how he's accepted into the Junior Death Eaters Club. I have an idea, but it's not nearly detailed enough yet.
As much as I love YA (reading one now), I am totally biased toward HP fanfic, so I vote for that one. It'd be great to be able to bounce Marauder's era ideas off someone!
I'm not working on it for NaNo (Founder's won out as of.... 5 hours ago) but I'm working on a massive AU trilogy that spans from MWPPs first year through the end of the second war. Yup. Except it's only half AU as all of canon happens.
If I ever get that far, the second fic covers from Halloween 1981 to Dumbledore's death in 1997... all from Snape's POV. Honestly, I'm dreading it.
But I have to get from 1972 - 1981 first. James is so much easier to write...
Honestly? I haven't touched it since last November... I'm only to 1972 or so... At some point I'm just going to have to sit down and force myself to NaNo-style it all the way through or it'll never get done... but the editing.
The part I wrote for 2009 covers first year... all 54k. But it's literally 5 or 6 massive scenes that (the extent of my limited planning if I do any more then that I lose interest completely) and sentences like:
Quote: "The rest of the term passed swiftly and before James knew it he was getting on the train to go home for Christmas. {two page dinner party} The rest of break and the beginning of the new year passed if possible even quicker and the next thing James knew he was discovering that one of his best friends is, in fact, a werewolf."
That actually makes me feel better because I have no idea how I'm going to get seven years into 50k words. Even if I condense boring days, the significant scenes are going to take up so much space. But I guess that's a good thing for my NaNo word count.
Hahaha Either way I'll be writing the Harry Potter one next month too. So we can still bounce ideas off each other! :D
When it comes to the marauders time I just really need to get a full timeline of what we KNOW happened and when. :/ That might be the hard part, besides capturing Snape's way of speech.
I shall go read it promptly. XD (I've been horribly busy lately, three projects, college mid-terms, surgery and now a sick boyfriend!) but I will read it before NaNo starts! :D
I have some general years, but no months or anything specific. The most specific I can get is the big Snape/Lily/James mudblood confrontation. Everything else is going to be guesswork.
I decided to write fanfiction this year, and not one, but two stories at once. Just in case I got bored with the first one. ;) The second plot came to me suddenly and was too tempting to ignore, so I'm sticking with it.
Anyway, I'm writing rps fanfiction, Super Junior (kpop). I hope at least someone knows what I'm talking about. /o\
I'm excited (and nervous, but mostly excited)! Nice to meet you all ^^
Sure! I'm a Mitang and a Gamer, so I write Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi, with hints of other pairings, like HanChul for example. :D I put the title/short premises at my profile/novel info thingy, but I'm more than glad to talk about it. :D
I just finished outlining the second story and I have no idea what's gotten into me, I never write angst. Especially not with such sunshine as Zhou Mi. ;~~; /cuddles
gyasdkf;djgf oh my gosh, i hunted down your novel summary and i am really really intrigued. ' A' also, you're from poland? (/loves on)
the angst bunny strikes without warning! ;~; actually, i think angst with super-sunshiney characters could be really interesting. like, interpreting their reactions to it and stuff (if that makes sense? omg i cannot english).
oh man i sort of want to pounce you for more info about your story plotline, but only if you want to share it ;~; (/cling)
I'm more of a Heechul fan than a fan of Super Junior as a whole, but I have such a soft spot for Kyuhyun and you're writing Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi and that is just adorable.
I'm not much of a Super Junior fan either, I just love Qmi. And Heechul will be ALL OVER my fics, he's just too much of a snarky bitch to not to use! :D
Still going for X-Files fanfiction (I really ought to drag my behind out of the 90s! I sound so old!), but along with that I also want to try some original fiction.
I think it's not at all old, it's a very fine way to keep... the fandom alive? That was not exactly what I was going for, but I can't explain it better than that.
I might do a fanfic this year, not too sure yet, I've had ideas for some original fantasy stuff floating around. Right now though i have the HUGEST HP plot bunny storming through my brain that is demanding to be written, I'm actually putting research time into the bloody thing to see if I can make it work the way I want to.
I'm writing a YGO fanfic I've pretty much failed at finishing in the last few years. I got to 100k last year before it was even halfway done, oh man. Pairing is Thief King Bakura/Malik/Anzu and it's...hard to explain without diagrams. :D
Final Fantasy XI fanfic here for me this year, my 2nd FFXI fanfic NaNo. It's going to have some light crossover elements from World of Warcraft as well since the two games are surprisingly synergous.
I've decided to only do fanfic once every other year to try and placate my inner "Hey, shouldn't you be writing publishable material?" critic, but after last year's debacle writing noir, I'm grateful to be going back to doing something I know how the hell to do...
Also, SQUEE! at the YGO fanfic writers, I was into that fandom for many years.
I'm writing fanfiction (actually a crossover) for the first time ever. I was with very little time to do worldbuilding of my own this October, and I'm also very excited with my little idea.
Just to have fun, and don't let yourself get too trapped by the box that is canon. It's not like anyone's judging you if you say screw it and completely turn something on its end. In fact, it's widely encouraged. :)
If you're a planner, you might want to create character profiles for canon characters. Yes, they're premade, and yes, you know and love (or hate) them, but it's easy to miss a detail or two in the speed of NaNo or discover that canon left ambiguous a trait that you now desperately need (this is particularly the case if you have a lot of characters, if you're writing about lesser-known or minor canon characters, or if your story is set in the past or future).
Writers like me, who have problems with dialogue, might also want to construct a file of canon quotes, a few characteristic ones for each lead; that way, if you're wondering if X would say something, you can instantly refer to your file and get an idea of his speaking style. That's much faster than searching through the book/series/game every time you need to check something.
Hope one of these suggestions helps, and good luck!
Advice from someone who has been writing fanfic for over ten years, I say...just go. Raquelin's right, don't get too trapped by the Canon Box. I have a saying that I've heard and then fell in love with and have taken to heart: "Canon is a Guidebook, not the friggin' Bible". Though "friggin'" is something much more vulgar in the actual saying, but anyway....
Location...why am I in this handbasket and is it getting hot?

Don't let the world building trap you and don't let the canon trap you. Remember to keep the personalities true to the characters because that is what counts in any fiction I've seen. And if you try to go OOC for a canon character, make sure that it makes sense to your world. One of my favorite crack stories has a gutter-talking Sephiroth and a hyper very gay Cloud. It works even if they are not like that in the original story because the world they were put in works.
I'm writing a Glee fanfiction. It's an AU set in a modern fantasy setting, which is based on the Cecilia Ahern novel There's No Place Like Here. It's not exactly a crossover because I'm not using any of Ahern's characters. It's a Klaine story, because that's what I write, but with a full cast too. I hate it when writers (all writers, not just fanfiction writers) forget that the MCs have other friends too.
I kind of feel like the black sheep of the fanfiction community here. There are tons of people writing Glee fanfic, but I've never found anyone on here. So ... speak up, if I'm not alone?
I wanted to write a Glee fanfic for NaNoWriMo this year, but my Notebook of Ideas and Characters was somehow forgotten in my move to college. It's hard to write when all the info I've gathered is TWO STATES OVER.
It wasn't going to really involve the main characters of Glee, though. It was going to be about the tech crew that is responsible for all the lighting/sound/etc. stuff. It was going to involve the rival tech crews of Vocal Adrenaline and The Warblers and...I'm rambling. Sorry, that plot bunny likes to steal my brain and run away with it. >_>
...Anyway, I've never read There's No Place Like Here, but it sounds really interesting. I'd love to see how New Directions acts in a fantasy environment. Good luck! :D
I've made it so that reading There's No Place Like Here isn't necessary. I figure a lot of people won't have read it, so I'm going through all the world-building in the novel. I couldn't stop myself from clarifying and expanding some parts of the world while I was at it. I'm actually thinking of changing the setting to a different town than the one where the book took place as well because I've changed an awful lot already.
Your idea sounds really cool. I normally don't read fics with a lot of OCs, but I'd make an exception for something like that. I think a lot of people would. I was part of stage crew for my school's show choir, and we had as much of a bond as New Directions. A rivalry would be fun to read about! Stage crew has so many awesome options for spying and sabotage.
I don't suppose you have a fall break coming up when you could go two states over and get your notebooks?
I am also writing a Glee fanfiction mainly revolving around KLAINE as they are my one true love. But Santana and Rachel will also be heavily involved. It's going to be a future fic in NYC, post-college.
Cutest avatar award! Even if you're not writing it this year, continue to freak out with us! Knowing we have a potential reader is some good motivation, and it's always nice to make new friends.
Good luck on your novel. Helena is one of the characters whose backstory I always wanted more of.
I actually flat out refuse to write Glee... I have story ideas... no plots (figures)... but I know that I wouldn't be able to do any of the characters justice. So I'm avoiding it for as long as possible. Probably not the best solution, but there you have it.
In the mean time I'll just scream at RIB and hope we get more to the Blaine transfer story-line than "I missed you" *eyeroll*
I haven't written anything Glee yet, I feel the same way about doing the characters justice, I read a fic once, it was Faberry I think, but every single character sounded EXACTLY like themselves, so much so that I was internally reading the dialouge in their voices...so yeah, I know that I am not able to do that! I absolutely adore reading the fanfiction though!
More Klainers! Yay! Sometimes characters are elusive like that. I'm that way with Supernatural. I love that show, but I cannot make Sam and Dean sound even remotely like themselves, so I let it go and just enjoy other people's stories. I actually cringe when some Glee characters make an appearance in my fics, but they're needed so I do my best. I remember reading some MWPP stories that left out Peter because the writer couldn't do him justice, and it threw off the whole story, so I make it a point not to shy away from characters who should be there. But it is scary when some of them show up.
I'm thinking of doing a Klaine fic, too. I just need a plot I can make work over 50k. Glad to know I'm not the only one doing it, though. Yours sounds so interesting - I can't wait to read if you do finish. :)
Thank you. I'm confident that I will finish, and I'll post. I hope you'll be one of my readers!
If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, I'd be happy to trade PMs. I'm one of those people who can see a leaf blowing on the wind and make a novel out of it. Good luck with your plot!
After an internal battle, resolved when I realized that my last two original novels weren't even in the same plane of reality as any hint of agents or editors, I have resigned myself to writing the Sailor Moon S alternate universe fic that has been chewing on my brain for a few months.
I have not yet figured out how to break the news to my parents.
I've never done fanfic for NaNo before, so I'm not sure how it'll differ from the original novel; I'd assume, though, that it constrains the insanity a bit. (For instance, if you're writing a Harry Potter prequel, it is bad form to hit Lily and James with a lorry.) Then again, I'm doing an AU, in which more or less anything goes, since there's no canon to say that my heroines must all be alive and intact at the finish line...
I do have some curiosity in seeing what kind of fanfic was created during NaNo. It must take an iron strength for not to go completely out of the rails, and the strength of an alien material of some sort not to go AU.
:Ahem: I've done fanfiction every year I've done NaNo, because I'm a hobbyist and not a dedicated writer, and I tend to dislike my OCs. It can be challenging, depending on where you're going. One year, I wrote an FMA AU where Al was never sealed in the armor. I had more freedom to stretch out because of how vastly different everything was. The next year, I wrote a post-series FMA story where Ed outlines 12 years of living in a premature Nazi Germany. (The Nazis got ahold of 'magic' through opening the Gate and took over in 192... 6? 7? Basically, the Pustch didn't fail as much as it had in real life, so they took over sooner, and Ed was a British spy, so he was entangled in everything going on.) That fic was challenging for the research it took, but again, I wasn't too terribly constrained by canon.
This year, however, I don't even know what the hell I'm doing. I picked up a political mess and poked it with a stick. :(
For the second year I'm going with a Naruto Fanfic. I wanted to do an original this year but I just couldn't get all my research and outlining done in time. And even though there is still time I just don't want to force it. So! This year I'm going with a fanfic that I've been thinking about doing for a while. In fact it's so persistent that I haven't been able to work on any other fanfictions (including one that I've already been writing and have posted that isn't finished) and my originals. So I need to get this thing out of the way and what better time then NANOWRIMO!
Yay for you! I will be continuing to work on my Naruto ff as I'm doing my actual original fic for nanowrimo. Wish I could do the fanfic, but I'm already well into it. good luck!
Also writing Naruto fanfic. Doing it as a Rebel, though, as the first 50k words have already been written, but damn it, I have story to tell, and I'm going to tell it! 50000 words HO!
Last year I did an original story-line, but, this year I'm going to be doing a 'Batman' fanfiction. ...and I say 'Batman', because, Batman isn't really in it that much, I guess it's more of a Batverse sort of thing. Main canon character is going to be Jason Todd because he needs more attention. 8I ....good attention....*kicks DC Reboot away*
Anyway, yeah. I'm still trying to figure some kinks out of the plot and crap, but, I have a half a month to finish up with that. I'll be finishing the updates on my novel info after I get home from classes tonight.
Anyone ELSE writing Bat-related things? I want to know!
Jason Todd! One of the most under-loved characters, I definitely wish he got better press and more fans!
I'm definitely writing something Bat-related... Not sure WHAT, but definitely Bat-related! I'm torn between two crossover AU ideas at the moment, placing Batman characters in other universes (either Puella Magi Madoka Magica or World of Darkness, specifically Changeling: The Lost), but either way most of the focus is definitely going to be on the Rogues Gallery, because villains need love too! ;)
(Love, she says, as she plots stories that will put her favorite characters through the emotional wringer...)
I won't lie, I have NO IDEA what those other universes are. >xD;; And YES. Villains need their own form of love and...attention and all that fluffy jazz (sure).
And emotional wringer is the best way for an author to show s/he cares... of course, it's also signing your death certificate, should any of the characters find you. .... *shifty eyes* ...but I digress.
Well, Madoka Magica is an anime that's pretty much a deconstruction of the magical girl genre (making everything darker, sadder, more dangerous, and more emotionally traumatizing), and Changeling is a tabletop game that deals with characters that have been warped into something other than human due to being abducted and owned by monstrous True Fae. Writing a story based on the first would, surprisingly, involve a lot more character death and be much more hopeless-feeling than the second. :|a
I do know, though, that if I go with Madoka Magica AU I'm going to get to play around some with Jason Todd, myself, and that DOES seem like a lot of fun. Trying to get him to go from Robin to the Red Hood in personality is pretty neat when events don't play out the same...
Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks doing terrible things to characters is the best sign of love there is. ;)
I'm doing a 'Batman' novel as well. It's from Harley Quinn's point of view and so far has only written the word 'Batman' once and 'Bat' referring to Batman specifically once. Of course I'm only 4130 words in. lol
Hi, everyone! I'm new to the fanfiction bandwagon, as this is my third NaNo and I've previously stuck to original fiction. Not that I'm new to fanfiction: I've been writing it since I was thirteen.
This year I'm writing a very, very long story for YuGiOh that I've been planning out (literally) since January (the outline eventually got so long I had to split it into four separate documents so I could read it with ease). I tend to stay on the sidelines for actual pairings, just out of personal preference (though a lot of my fandom friends are open and proud shippers, so nothing against pairing stories in the least), and focus almost strictly on friendship and family relationships. My story is crazy complicated, but it focused on Yami and Yuugi (wow, big surprise), along with a fairly major subplot of what happens when Pegasus decides, post-canon, to adopt.
Yeah. Non-YuGiOh fans are now twitching their eyes at me in bafflement... (heck, even fans might be XD).
So glad to see all of you here! Regardless of your fandom of choice, this is gonna be so much fun.

Re: Fanfiction Writers!
*sigh*
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Ugh - clicked reply instead of scrolling to the bottom. D'OH!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
!!!! Sorry, I saw the words 'fanfiction' and 'YGO' and squealed a bit. :D I'm doing a YGO fic for the third year in a row this November!
Also, love for Seto/Anzu and Seto/Jou. My novel has Thief King Bakura/Malik/Anzu in it, so, uh, I dabble in the crack. |D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!

Thief King Bakura/Malik/Anzu? LOL, that does sound like crack. Props to you if you can pull it off. ^_^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Nice! :D I'm kind of in love with Anzu/Bakura (or Anzu/Ryou) and my novel this year is just that! Excited to know someone else out there likes the pairing!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
If you run out of ideas, I would like to request a fanfic about why Kaiba is on that broomstick! That pic is awesome! :D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Ah, thank you. *blushes*
Now you've got me wondering just why he would be on that broomstick (apart from the posing up in Sims 2 of course...)
Hehe... I shall have to think about it. ^_^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
That's awesome! I love YGO, I don't write it much but it's definitely one of my fav's to read. Seto/Jou is by far the best though Seto/Anzu is still really good! Good luck on your writing!!!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
YGO fanfic writers unite!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
A second try at the Challenge of the Kaleido Stars thing I did last year.
Good news: Got to 50,000 and won!
Bad news: The momentum completely left the playing field at that instant!!
So trying it again.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I might want to read this if you post it. Kaleido Star is one of my favorite animes ever.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm doing fan fiction again this year myself. I seem to have better luck hitting the 50 k when I do. I'm doing Due South, Meg Thatcher centred fic. Gen with possible het shippy overtones, depending on how the characters behave.
Hmmnn...I gots to find me an avatar/icon...
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm all over this thread. I'm doing Legend of Zelda fic this year, based on the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask mangas. :| I think it's trying to turn into a political mess on me instead of something awesome. :(
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh cool a Zelda fanfiction ^_^ if you don't mind sharing what's it about?
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh wow that sounds really cool ^_^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Thank you! ^_^ It's difficult playing a political story. :( I'm bad at politics. So this is going to be an interesting exercise in writing for me.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Thumbs up for LOZ.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I wanted to wait until someone else posted in the thread so that I didn't kill the thread before it started.
I am going to take a whack at Kingdom Hearts 'fic again. And for the first time, I'm coming in with nothing but the vaguest of vague ideas.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oo! Cool Kingdom Hearts! What type of Fanfiction is it going to be?
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re:
OMG! Thank you for point that out! I dread the "Other" category, so I just picked "Fantasy" until I read your post. Now I'm officially declaring myself a fanfiction writer. Yay!
Re:
I love the ability to officially call myself a fanfic writer.
I just picked "romance" or "other" in the other years.
Re:
Kaysper: This. Is. Amazing. I just want you to know that. DDS is only super amazing wonderful awesome and all. If you ever need a beta reader around January... just sayin'.
yaaaaaay!
Re: yaaaaaay!
Oooh, please do add me! And keep me posted on your progress, 'kay? My NaNo is original, but it's also f/f so maybe we can encourage each other =3
Re:
Ooh, DDS fic! I've had DDS on the brain for months now. Argilla is awesome, and Jinana really deserved more than what she got. Would you mind sending me a copy of the fic once you finish it? :3
Re:
I would be happy to! I might want to possibly proof read it and get a few bugs out, but I love knowing there's more people out there who are fans of the game that would like to read it; gives me a ton of motivation to see it all the way through.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I bet nobody else is doing ReBoot!
This one has been in the planning stages for um... eight years, give or take? And it's finally coming together, massively and splendidly. I may actually have a shot at lasting more than a week this year.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
FIEOWJFKLDS. REBOOT. I love you strictly for writing for this much forgotten fandom. God, I miss ReBoot.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I've not written for it, but I really love ReBoot. One of my favorite animated series!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
!!! A fellow ReBoot fan!
(I clearly can't have enough exclamation marks!)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
No WAY! aldjsdkjkf;;!! *flail* 8D YAY!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Heh, I'm pretty proud of that title. I think it came out of watching way too much Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh wow, Reboot. There's a show I haven't seen in forever. *_* I missed it. (Ah, Toonami. Them's the days, them's the days.)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Heh, I go all the way back to when it was first on ABC. Saturday morning cartoons... THOSE were truly the days. :)
(It's also out on DVD now, FINALLY.)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Awesome! I'd almost forgotten how awesome that show is.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Yeeeah, political/historical Hetalia love~ ^^
Best of luck to you!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
You have Jonas Armstrong as your profile picture. >>----> We are Robin Hood! <----<
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Cool. I'm doing Hetalia/Titanic crossover or Hetalia/CSI. More into Hetalia/Titanic though xD
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I mostly write Hetalia fanfiction, so that's probably what I'm going with this year. I have many crossover ideas, but I don't know if they're long enough...
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh my gosh, I want to read this. <3 Historical Hetalia the best.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I sometimes write fanfiction during the lean months until November, so all I have to say is good luck, crazy fan ficcers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I wish you luck!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Woooow, that's a lot. Good luck to you!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Seriously.
Most of my editing is adding more scenes...
And nobody wants to read it so.....
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
That actually makes me feel better because I have no idea how I'm going to get seven years into 50k words. Even if I condense boring days, the significant scenes are going to take up so much space. But I guess that's a good thing for my NaNo word count.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
lol well.... *takes deep breath then realizes this really isn't the best place to talk about my headcanons*
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
sent you a NaNo mail... probably a better spot for this conversation...
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I shall go read it promptly. XD (I've been horribly busy lately, three projects, college mid-terms, surgery and now a sick boyfriend!) but I will read it before NaNo starts! :D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I have some general years, but no months or anything specific. The most specific I can get is the big Snape/Lily/James mudblood confrontation. Everything else is going to be guesswork.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Hi guys!
Nice to meet you all ^^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
kfasfk;dkg i know this reply is 10 hours late, but i know what you're talking about and i'm really interested! would you care to share any details? :>
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
ajdhkshd hi!!!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
gyasdkf;djgf oh my gosh, i hunted down your novel summary and i am really really intrigued.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
nanomailed you
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
aw nano forum, why did you eat half of my reply? Anyways... XD I don't mind, thus I nanomailed you!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
SUPER. JUNIOR.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Ah, the forum ate my reply too! (;~;) In any case... I'mma go listen to "No Other" about a million more times now~ XD
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
No Other is so cute. ;DDD I think I will listen to A-Cha while writing some of the more... cheerful parts, this song is my jam, haha.
Also- yay for more kpop fans!!! ^__^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Gargouabvaodfrugbrgv good luck!
I'm more of a Heechul fan than a fan of Super Junior as a whole, but I have such a soft spot for Kyuhyun and you're writing Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi and that is just adorable.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
/squee/ Thank you!!!
I'm not much of a Super Junior fan either, I just love Qmi. And Heechul will be ALL OVER my fics, he's just too much of a snarky bitch to not to use! :D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
OMG me too!!!! I'm writing one too! How's yours going? I'm up to about 10 000 :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Still going for X-Files fanfiction (I really ought to drag my behind out of the 90s! I sound so old!), but along with that I also want to try some original fiction.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I think it's not at all old, it's a very fine way to keep... the fandom alive? That was not exactly what I was going for, but I can't explain it better than that.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I dont think anyone should drag their butt out of the 90's and away from XFiles fic! ... Or I am showing my age too. LOL.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I wrote X-Files fic last year for NaNo! And I'm still plugging away at it. 170,000+ words to date.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
*phew* I thought I was the only one! ^_^
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
don't feel bad. my story this year is based on kolchak: the night stalker, which is from the 70s. (& a major inspiration for the xfiles.)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
OMG Night Stalker fic! *sends you flowers* I'm definitely in line for that.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
My fandom is from the 90's, too. :D Gundam Wing, 1995. <3
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm doing a HP fanfic too. This one, I'm sure has been done, but I'm doing it anyway. JK's characters, my storyline. :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm writing a YGO fanfic I've pretty much failed at finishing in the last few years. I got to 100k last year before it was even halfway done, oh man. Pairing is Thief King Bakura/Malik/Anzu and it's...hard to explain without diagrams. :D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Hi fellow fanfic writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm writing fanfiction (actually a crossover) for the first time ever. I was with very little time to do worldbuilding of my own this October, and I'm also very excited with my little idea.
Any advice from veteran fanfic-writers?
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Just to have fun, and don't let yourself get too trapped by the box that is canon. It's not like anyone's judging you if you say screw it and completely turn something on its end. In fact, it's widely encouraged. :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
That's all the advice I've got.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh God, I wish I could quote correctly the Black Pearl's thing with "They are more guidelines than actual rules anyway" right now XD
Thank you all for the advice! I'll smack that Canon Box with a hammer, then.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
It's my first year doing NaNo, and since I've been writing fanfiction for a while now, I decided to go with that. :)
Since the last book in the trilogy isn't coming out till next August, I've decided to write a sequel to 'The Power of Six'.
Coming up with a title that fit the naming scheme of the series was hard, but I found it at last; 'The Rise of Nine'. 8D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
KLAINE.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
NaNo forum, Y U kill my post. ;_;
Good luck! :D
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
KLAINE! Is about right. :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Hi friend! I was alone until yesterday :)
I am also writing a Glee fanfiction mainly revolving around KLAINE as they are my one true love. But Santana and Rachel will also be heavily involved. It's going to be a future fic in NYC, post-college.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Hi friend! I love reading future fics, especially when some of New Directions are still good friends (or frenemies, in some cases). Good luck!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Glee!!! KLAINE!! I'm not writing Glee, but it's all I've been reading for months!
I may have freaked out a little when I saw this post. :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Cutest avatar award! Even if you're not writing it this year, continue to freak out with us! Knowing we have a potential reader is some good motivation, and it's always nice to make new friends.
Good luck on your novel. Helena is one of the characters whose backstory I always wanted more of.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Squee! Fellow Klaine fans!!!!
Ah, this is too exciting!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I think part of my problem is that I don't know anybody even remotely like any of them so I don't have a real example to base them on.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm thinking of doing a Klaine fic, too. I just need a plot I can make work over 50k. Glad to know I'm not the only one doing it, though. Yours sounds so interesting - I can't wait to read if you do finish. :)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Thank you. I'm confident that I will finish, and I'll post. I hope you'll be one of my readers!
If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, I'd be happy to trade PMs. I'm one of those people who can see a leaf blowing on the wind and make a novel out of it. Good luck with your plot!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'll definitely be reading! :D
And thanks, I may just take you up on that. I'm still brainstorming, haha.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
That seems to be my cue to blow up Tokyo.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I vote for blown-up Tokyo, for what that matters.
I do have some curiosity in seeing what kind of fanfic was created during NaNo. It must take an iron strength for not to go completely out of the rails, and the strength of an alien material of some sort not to go AU.
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Blow up Tokyo!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Sounds interesting; Sailor Moon S is my favourite season. Good luck with it!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Good to hear that somebody else will be doing Sailor Moon fanfictiion!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm writing Naruto, too! YAY other Naruto fanficcers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Yay for you and naruto!!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Yay for you! I will be continuing to work on my Naruto ff as I'm doing my actual original fic for nanowrimo. Wish I could do the fanfic, but I'm already well into it. good luck!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Naruto for me too! I failed miserably last year, hope I can actually finish my story this year.,...
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Also writing Naruto fanfic. Doing it as a Rebel, though, as the first 50k words have already been written, but damn it, I have story to tell, and I'm going to tell it!
50000 words HO!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Awesome! A Rebel and doing Naruto fanfic! Yay!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
*waves*!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Seriously!
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks doing terrible things to characters is the best sign of love there is. ;)
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
I'm doing a 'Batman' novel as well. It's from Harley Quinn's point of view and so far has only written the word 'Batman' once and 'Bat' referring to Batman specifically once. Of course I'm only 4130 words in. lol
Re: Fanfiction Writers!
Oh my WOW! There are other YuGiOh writers here!
Oh, I'm so happy...
Happy writing!!
Lauren
