My Novel

How could I explain to my readers that my charactor is rich and snobby, in the opening paragraph?

Why do you need to explain his personality to your readers that early in the story? Perhaps instead, you could show your readers through his behavior that he's rich and snobby?

Hope this helped!

Show don't tell. Describes her actions, what she wears, how she/he acts in a run down area, how she/he acts in high society.
Basics of that would be:
Rich: gold jewlery
Snobby: basically, "if it ain't designer, it ain't goin' near me"

Is it weird if i've actually known a lot of people in real life from rundown background who still somehow manage to be snobs? Just putting that out there.

I would rather see a poor snob than a rich one. Makes a more interesting story. I mean people automatically assume someone is a snob since they are rich. But for someone on the wrong side of the track to be a snob would be a great character :)

I have a character who is rich and not at all snobby. Another character sees his private school uniform and neatly-groomed appearance and expensive car and assumes he's uppity because of all that. Later, he (and the reader) finds out that he's actually a very nice, caring, down-to-earth person.

So if you want your character to be rich, give him/her expensive things. He/she could show off an expensive car, jewelry, clothes, etc. The snob part could come into play when he/she is talking badly about someone who doesn't have those expensive things. Something like...

"'Hey, Brittany,' Claire said cheerfully. 'Where did you get that outfit? A second-hand store?' Claire's friends snickered as though that had been the most clever line they had ever heard. Claire stared at Brittany, almost daring her to retort, but Brittany, instead, turned and scurried away. A wicked smile spread across Claire's face."

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

"I traded in for the Aventador immediately, of course. There's no point driving the Gallardo when even the new kit on the block can get their hands on one."

Nice :) Thanks, Notkieran

I was also thinking of adding a kind of supernatural theme, as in someone who is watching over my character, protecting her. How would I show this?

Also, what reason could the government have for taking an entire family and their staff, but leave one daughter behind? Maybe even kill the family?

I wouldn't show supernatural in the first bit, although there could be tiny clues- at the very most a near miss, like just avoiding not being hit by a car.

What country is it set in? If it's a fictional country, anything, if it's modern, it depends. You'll have a way harder time with the US or anywhere in Britain than the Dominican or wherever.

Not modern, real.

Well, most of my novels are automatically set in England, because that's where I live, and I don't know the workings of any other country.

I have a rich, snobby character. I show his snobbiness in his insults. He often calls poorer or uglier people "uncivilized", "crude", or "disgusting". He's English, so I hope this helps. My other rich, snobby character is constantly obsessing over her appearance. She's actually very insecure. Characters like this are so fun to write, good luck!

Snobby+Obnoxious=Snobnoxious.

For the rich part, let your reader know that the character is wearing expensive clothes and jewelry.

For the snob part, put them in the very best restaurant, and let the reader see how they treat the server, who's on their first day on the job. :)
