Since you guys have been so helpful to me in the past, I decided this would be the best place for my query. I've been working out an idea for my urban fantasy series where basically one of my character is imprisoned in a dungeon.
Now the guy's talented when it comes to making potions so his plan is that he's going to make a potion similiar to what Juliet took in Romeo and Juliet. If he's successful, he'll fall into a deep, death-like hiberation for the next twenty four hours. If he screws up the formula, he could die in his sleep or give himself mild lethargy.
His biggest problem is getting the ingrediants he needs for the potion. Luckily, he's friendly with the guy who brings his food and can have things smuggled in. The issue is, how exactly is the guy going to smuggle things in? Before he's able to enter the 'dungeon', he's subject to a metal detector and a mild pat down. So smuggling a pack of mushrooms under his shirt's a bit of a no-go. And swallowing things ala a drug mule...probably won't work too well. Too much of a mess. ;)
And I'm trying to brainstorm items that could be used in the potion. Basically, what the potion does is it slows down his body's functions enough so that he's basically "frozen" in a death like state. So far, I'm imagining there could be a hint of wintersweet and white cedar in the mix. Anything else y'all might suggest would be awesome.
Maybe there's some mould growing on the walls, and he notices that insects that land on it fall off and then wake up after a few moments. That sort of thing.
That could maybe work, just not sure what he'd derive from the mold. Maybe he could use something in it to help dilute some of the more dangerous ingrediants effects.... I mean, the poor guy is forced to result to the loo water for the potion after all.
Maybe the belladonna and the aconite are hidden in the potion maker's food? Just a thought when you mentioned disguising it... The biggest issue is that my guy wouldn't want to damage the ingrediants by having them be mixed with other things but desperate times do call for desperate measures.

Cyanide can be derived from apple seeds and peach pits... but it would probably take a lot, and some amount of refining.
Aconite or belladonna could be smuggled in disguised as something else... They could be spices or greens or whatever.
The plant route seems easiest, anyway.

Ooh! Thanks!

Thanks again!

Now this is a fairly blatant bump but...eh...
