I found the name "Doubtfire" in my faithful surnames book. The meaning and sound were perfect for my character! But... apparently it's the name of a nanny(?) in a movie. AND SOMEHOW I've never heard of this movie, but everyone I show the name to has.
So my question is: a college radio station host named DJ Doubtfire. Would the cool rhythm and meaning of the name prevail? Or would it just make him sound like a misplaced biddy?
Make it a running gag! IMO the name is cool, and I've never heard of that movie. Making it a joke/reference everybody gets would be cool. Heck, make him a huge fan of the movie!
To be more precise, it's the name of a character played by Robin Williams in a nanny movie... he's the nanny, Mrs. Doubtfire^^ We get that movie three times every Christmas season over here, and I still don't really know why...
But Lizardhound is right; make it some sort of inside joke or running gag. And I think that DJ Doubtfire sounds cool, anyway.
As much as I love the alliteration, I'm really sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with the others. When I read DJ Doubtfire, it's not like I imagine a DJ/nanny cross-over, but the connotation ruined the name for me. It could be that you write the character well enough it doesn't matter anymore, but it did make me biased toward the character in a negative way.
It's still an actual name. Real people have this name. If we shunned every name that was ever used by another fictional work, we'd have to name all our characters things like X'tchy'blartzlplatz.
When was Robin Williams a DJ in a movie?? I remember that he was Mrs. Doubtfire, but that's it. I say go for it and hang a lampshade on it. It doesn't have to be brought up repeatedly, but acknowledging the existence of a previous character might make it easier. You could even make your DJ could hate his pseudonym; it was forced onto him by the station producer, who was a huge Robin Williams fan or something, and every time he's recognized by his voice he has this violent mental conflict between accepting the positive attention and denying that he has any association with that name.
I'm not sure that movie is as popular as Mrs Doubtfire is, so although that may be an issue, I don't think it's too much of one. I haven't watched it myself anyway. But it's up to the OP to decide whether they keep the name and deal with the relation to Robin Williams or change the name.
Never seen the movie, but I've heard of it. My advice is to see if you can come up with another name that would work just as well, and if not, go with Doubtfire. I find myself sometimes inspired by the oddest things - I once got a character name from a location in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and a place name from someone's handle on the Steam forums.
Nooo... It was the perfect name! Or is it still?

Two strikes against your misplaced biddy: DJ Doubtfire
1. Mrs. Doubtfire was a character in a popular movie by the same name.
2. Mrs. Doubtfire was played by Robin Williams, who also played a DJ in another popular movie.
Some readers may see the name as contrived because of those two associations.

If you're open to suggestions, perhaps you could share the time frame of your story and tell us a little about the character.

Personally, I picture Robin Williams playing Mrs. Doubtfire as a DJ. It's sort of a hilarious picture in my head.

In Good Morning, Vietnam. The plot starts with Robin Williams's character arriving in Saigon to work as a DJ for the Armed Forces Radio Service.

You could have people take the mick out of him all day by calling him Mrs.
