I'm 70 pages in on my novel, and I've written it in the first person point of view of my MC.
My problem is I've had a change of heart, and I want to write from another character's point of view. But I'm already 70 pages in. Would it throw off the tempo of my novel if I start a chapter from another character's point of view?
Possible solutions: I could not write a lengthy chapter from the other character's point of view, but instead, maybe kind of pause the novel and provide some sort of memoir or passage from the character...
Should I do it or should I just keep writing my novel from this one character?
I've switched POV's in the middle of a novel before, but it was because my characters split up and I needed to show what happened to all of them, instead of just what happened to the FMC. I went from first person to third person and rotated between the characters until they met back up.
I guess it depends on how badly you want to switch POV's, and how well a memoir/passage would work. I think I would probably switch to the other character and start telling the story that way with a short note to myself in case I forget what I did, and then see if I want to continue like that. If I do, I finish the novel in that point of view and when I start the second draft, I would change the first 70 pages to that POV. If I don't like it that way, I'd just switch back and once again switch everything over to one or the other during a second draft.
You can definitely make it work with a new voice so far in. I would just try it out, and see how well it flows. Then if you think it doesn't work, you could always divide your novel into parts, and have 'part one' as the first 70 pages, 'part two' as the new character's voice, and maybe 'part three' as alternating voices. But that's just one suggestion.
I think that is actually what I'm doing! I'm having my FMC as the main voice, but I'm actually going to add voices, just not make them as lengthy as 70 pages, so the novel is still focused on the FMC, rather than the other characters' perspectives I'm adding.
I hope that won't take away from the novel, and I hate to do it so far in, but hopefully, when I write more, it'll all make more sense.
What would YOU do if you were me?

That makes sense! I just didnt know if it would throw off the novel since it was kind of already started from one character's point of view.
