So a little over a year ago, a post on the Adopt a Plot really caught my eye, and I've been working on it ever since. It focuses around a secret society at a high class private school. The FMC, Kat, wakes up in the middle of the night to discover her roommate dead, and she soon discovers that her roommate was involved in a secret society called the Queen's Court. There are members from the school, and an number of members who are alumni, including a cop and other local figures.

Now, obviously, they are secret for a reason, and they have a reason for covering up the death of Kat's roommate, but after a year, I still haven't figured out what that reason is. What could they possibly be up to that they keep their existence completely under the radar? I'm not really interested in anything supernatural, so I don't know what secret they could be hiding that after the roommate's death, Kat is forced to take her place. Any suggestions?

Hmm... I'll try to throw some ideas around. I'm having some trouble because I'm imagining an all-women's college sorority kind of setting, and my ideas are trekking onto world domination territory, lol.

Maybe the Queen's Court is running the city by blackmailing all the important people, so that the whole city is eating out of the palms of their hands? This may be how they continue to secure such impressive funding for their school. Maybe they do some good things with all these finances, like donate to children's hospitals or clean up local parks, but this is just a "we're lovely people!" cover-up. In reality, their blackmailing and forced political connections open up pretty much EVERY high-power job to the Queen's Court. It may be a rumor that Queen's Court members are so brilliant that NO company will ever say no to them. They're Elite Thinkers.

Umm... Or maybe it's a cult? And they've got some radical new outlook on the world, and what kind of people deserve to be in it. Since they're a highly funded private school, maybe there's a medical angle to this, where the cult is developing some kind of vaccine that to unknowingly give people who are "threats" to their secret society, so that it looks like they died of natural causes...? And maybe they've got some kind of crazy counter-culture rituals that they would want to keep secret? H'oh boy, this one's just getting weird...

Maybe, with the medical angle, the members of the Queen's Court really ARE brilliant? They're developing new medicine that could change the world, but the side-effects of their research are so risky that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) refuses to let them bring the new vaccines into human trials? Queens Court wants to be responsible for a medical revolution and they're positive they have a brilliant idea... but they need to keep all their research a secret so no one steals their data and ideas, but ALSO because they're applying the vaccine to people in secret and several people have already died?

Okay, last crazy conspiracy theory I can think of...

Maybe your secret society is focused on stealing all the great ideas of the world? Very, very bright students attend this private school and Queens Court is dedicated to secretly stealing their research and turning it into their own? Maybe, like the first idea, Queens Court members ALWAYS get on the fast-track to high-power jobs because they're all apparently geniuses, but they're really stealing the inventions and theories from other brilliant students and covering it up somehow, and quieted the victims down in a very illegal way, so they can become the future leaders of the world?

Okayyy, that's all I can think of. O__o;; Sorry it was so long winded...
