This is the third annual thread to read when you need to get a good, sound butt-kicking during nano. We come here to really inspire each other to get a move on meeting our writing goals. Sometimes, somebody needs just that tad bit of nudging or pushing or chopping or burning... you know torturing! Being tied up with chains and held over the mouth of a giant troll or maybe a giant acid-spitting Mongolian death worm with only their laptop until they meet their word count type of torturing!
Come join us! Get a kicking or do some kicking. Either will be fine. Hehehehe!
Ell-chan...your characters are eager and impatient to meet you! Let them out of your mind so they have room to breathe...and FILL OUT THOSE CHARACTER SHEETS! It's getting a little crowded in there!

Nope... But they're really good for getting to know your characters.. If I counted it in to my wordcount I wouldn't have been able to write them before Nov 1...

Hello fellow tumblr addict! My problem too, I'll sit on tumblr, and picking out my music, then just staring at my phone or facebook and its "Oh, I'll write after I hit the bottom of this page" 20 pages later "Two more pages..."
I desperately need some butt-kicking. My first day was ok, but I've been so busy that I've hardly written a thing since then, and even with the tiny amount I wrote yesterday I had to get up at three am to do homework. Today I have a dress rehearsal, a conference, and an entire Features section newspaper layout to complete. Tomorrow I have an afternoon of rehearsals, an evening performance, and the layout due. Just to make all this more wonderful, I'm taking the SATs saturday, and I have a huge chemistry exam on Monday (who schedules their biggest test for a MONDAY???).
Apart from wanting to vent, the reason I'm saying all this is that I need someone to give me enough of a kick to make me write despite having so much to do. Please help me?
Unless you are physically doing those things, you have time. You are just wasting energy if you let yourself sit around and think "in an hour I have to X" when you could be putting words to paper. And I find that once you start, it's easy to keep going. You can do it!
try and write at least a little whenever you have time. say u have five minutes, challenge urself and see how much u can write in that five minutes. the numbers add up. and bring a notebook with u, if you finish the test early write a scene. if you are not doing anything at dress rehersal write back stage, just dont miss ur cue, that happened to me.
Let me just say that I only have 3622... I think I can make up the lost words, but it's tough! I'm so busy w/ college right now and just aahhhhhh. I'm really excited about NANOWRIMO as this is my first time doing it! I just need the motivation to reach that 50k, it seems so far away right now.
I've definitely hit writer's block, and I can't seem to squeeze out more than 1,000 words a day... which is super bad since I'm 6,000 behind! I need my butt kicked 100%! HELP!
PS: Any suggestions on how to cope with hand cramps? I also work in tech computer support, so my fingers get worn to the bone just during work. Thanks!
Silent as a long-ago-dug grave, a ninja walks in your door suddenly as you are chatting away on this very forum. Somehow, without speaking a word or showing his face, his disproving expression and stance somehow manage to guilt you to your story. He points out several things you've never seen before and somehow implies that you are welcome to introduce him into your story, if necessary.
Somebody kick my butt. I've outlined 12/30 chapters. I'd like to get up to chapter 15 today and I know what I have to do to get there but it's just so haaaard.
*Kicks everyone's butt, including mine* (Ouch! Didn't know my leg could bend that way!)
Having trouble kicking (ha!) that procrastination habit? Try working on your outline, your map, your whatever for FIVE MINUTES. Just FIVE MINUTES, but a real FIVE minutes, not four, not three. Now at the end of that five minutes, do you really want to stop? If so, then stop. Go do something else and try again later. If not, keep going!
And if this doesn't work, at least you have five more minutes worth of material than you did when you started. :)
Ah, the butt-kicking thread is back! I am definitely going to be here throughout November. Especially since I'm not going to be able to write much for the first half of November! (Exams, then a school trip.) But I need some now, too! I'm procrastinating on editing my '10 project. The dream is to have this draft finished before Nov. Someone kick my butt, please!
Oh no! MishMoze, please, please don't do that!!! *oh the horrors*
Actually, I shouldn't need a punishment. For now, at least. I've steadily been editing away. It's still not finished, but it's getting there.
To all you procrastinators that read this, go write 500 words of your outline/backstory/whatever, or spend 5 minutes drawig maps/whatever else it is that artistic writers do!
So, here we are once again. The site might be shiny and new but the dungeons are the same with even more cobwebs, dust, and who knows what creepy crawlies have set up home down there this past year. All torture implements have been checked and found in good working order. Beware slackards! (yesh, spellcheck doesn't like that word but I do)
I have been procrastinating at working on an outline for my nano novels though i tend to want to finish some of them in November besides work on a new Nano novel if i do not finish my Gothno and Scifi ones this month. I definitely need my but kicked to get inspired to write my Nano novel.
So, yeah. I'll do my best to kick people's butts. (Don't expect any mercy, I enjoy this job. >;D)
And I will also likely need someone to kick my butt, because motivation can be a challenge for me. So, don't give me any mercy, kick my butt until I get back to work! :)
i don't outline. i just write. my friend calls me a pantser because of it. but, i let my characters do whatever they feel like doing. if they feel like being vampires half way through the book. then hey why not. and i know my way of writing may sound weird, but if i plan my story out i get bored with it.
I get your point, that it does get boring sometimes if YOU'VE already gone through the whole story, and you no longer feel motivated to share it with anyone else.
Instead of planning out events, plan out important lessons your characters want to learn and important themes you want to put in. Then you'll have more to write about if you ever run out.
I only procrastinate when I have a hidden bottle of vodka. Sadly, I have one. Someone please kick my butt. I'm productive when I can keep off the sauce but...the damn stuff is so cheap and legal. I'll never forget watching Capote for the first time. I thought all through the film that he wrote 'In Cold blood' but there was a bottle in every scene, so if he could do it, so could I. Then the end of the film came and it went to black. Then, before the credits, the words came up that he died of complications due to alcohol. Seems like that is the way it goes for a lot of writers. Trying to avoid that.
I used avoid this thread in past years, but seeing as the past three years I quit around 20K words, I'm pulling on my tactical boots and jumping into the mosh pit of butt kicking!
Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!

Finish that outline, Mushzoom, even if it's just a temporary fix! Do it!
Re: Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!
My main characters don't have names and my entire plot consists of one scene so far. Butt kicking is requested.
Re: Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!
I will literally kick your butt HARD if you don't
Re: Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!
Check out the adoption society forum. Just, you know, don't get sucked in.
Re: Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!
I made the mistake of checking the adoption center when I already had a plot.....now I've got a different one ;~;
I have an outline and a plot I like, but I've still been procrastinating on the actual putting of words to page. thwapping is requested.
Re: Get Your BUTT-KICKING Here!!!
I'll be here in November quite frequently, I think. Oh dear. At least I don't have an outline to get done yet :oP

If you DON'T finish the edited Draft, I will............break your laptop, and you'll have to write NaNo'11 by hand.

Get those maps done... NOWWW. Get those outlines done (if you outline) and if you don't, jog 12 miles while we outline. Heheheheeee.
