I live out in the country, so I have satellite internet - which means I have a small download allowance before my internet goes super-slow for a day. Also, if I write at home, I get interrupted by my mom or my pets. So I've gone to several different places to write on better wifi connections:
the library (public library or the school one)
Panera
between classes backstage in the music & drama department (there's a class going on on the other side of the curtain, so I type quietly)
Hy-Vee (they have a quiet little seating area ... and sushi)
I write while sitting in a tree or my old swing set from when I was young. I also love to type while sitting in my closet or in my dog's crate... hey it's productive!
I used to read and write in trees all the time! Then my dad banded me from it when I got my first lap top. There's not too many trees where I am now anyway.
It's not exactly a weird place, but my favorite place to write is the coffee shop in my town. I like being surrounded by people talking, coffee beans roasting, and their xm radio station. I tend to focus better there than when I'm at home on the couch.
I went to a spanish immersion camp last weekend. I was hastily trying to write so I wouldn't be woefully behind when I got back the entire time, especially during siestas (which is like nap time after lunch in Spain. I think we need one of those in America.) and meal times... A little NaNoing with your churros, anyone?
I don't know about weird, but I did a lot of traveling throughout Europe, and I wrote in the square in Stockholm, overlooking the ocean at Cinque Terre, Italy, and in a bar in Krakow, Poland. As it turns out, those aren't very productive places to write...
I am bound and determined to go write in a movie theater while a movie is playing. I'm writing on my iPad2 with a stylus--easy to see in the dark, easy to use. I figure if I sit in the back row during a matinee I won't distract anybody....
We have a recliner on the patio that has a view of all the other houses that I like to go sit in and write when I want complete silence or concentration.
When I get the chance, I have two times this Nano, I like to write at the beach. I live in Malibu, when its sunny I like to sit in the sand and listen to the ocean while writing. Although sand in the pants is a cruel reality.
My MC sits in a closet at one point, so I've been dragging pillows and blankets into my closet and that's working great. A place I'd like to try writing in is the woods. I figure if I bring something to sit on, it'll provide some good inspiration.
Ahah.. I've done that. I stayed at this inn hotel with a HUGE closet, like the size of my bed. Let's just say I got some great thriller moments written in there.
Thanks to you, I am currently in my closet right now. It's actually pretty awesome, except my closet has a blanket/shower curtain for a door, so it feels like I made a fort or something. And a dress is in my eye.
I should get a ton of writing in here! 8D thanks you so much!
Well my MC never really sits in a closet, but occasionally when everybody else goes to bed I sit in the back of my closet with my laptop and write till one in the morning and I can't keep my eyes open. I seem to work best when nobody else is around(or even awake). The woods would be an awesome place to write! (Except that it snowed and it's freezing outside...)
I once spent an entire day sitting in the closet to write and I have found the woods are a great place for inspiration. Sometimes I get a little paranoid about the coyotes though; we have some coyote problems around here. I usually just write at the computer, even though all the aforementioned locations sound so much more fun.
Yeah, I live right beside a forest (it's my backyard) and I would write there but I am paranoid about coyotes and scorpions and... a lot of stuff in there. *shivers* :)
Update on the gym... The spinning studio is a GREAT place for [noteobok] writing! Something about keeping my body in motion is great to convince my muse I'm not focused on him. Also, a darkened studio when the sun went down after 4:00, with trains going past the window and some good tunes in my ear helped me get out 1,000 words of an action sequence. So much easier to write your character running when your own legs are moving!
Also, the sauna makes a great place to write, though I wouldn't recommend it if you only write on electronic devices.
For notebook writing, my favourite place so far has been laying on my kitchen floor. :) It's nice and cool and the farthest place in the house from Dad's snoring.
I wrote at a rehearsal for a musical this one time. It was a scene my friend and I weren't needed for, so we stepped out of the room and did a word war. I also write in the car sometimes if someone else is driving. My laptop gets pretty cold in this weather, though. Mine aren't that weird, but it's quite fun to write wherever you go.
Hehe, you definitely shouldn't be shot... I myself wrote in between my cousin's wedding and reception. But hey, we were in Hawaii, and the after-party ended up being at a little bar on the beach. It was inspiring!
The weirdest place for me to write will be writing my novels. Or notes to plan to write my new novels in classes i go to. Or before tutoring happens in the morning.
Mine is probably in a cardboard box fort, with lots of blankets and pillows inside. I don't have the excuse of a young child for building it. I'm just immature enough to think it's incredibly fun, and that has led to several scenes of my darling FMC building forts with her friends.
Fort! i have three days...shuld make a fort, anyways the wierdest places i wrote.. 1.sitting on top of my dresser 2.sitting underneath my chair 3.sitting on in the computer chair (that has a apple comuter on the desk) with my laptop(although thats more ironic the wierd) 4. lying in the middle of the hallway 5. social studies class (when im supposd to be writting a YCJA essay)
I would love to write in a fort, and may in fact try it sometime. But for now I'm stuck at a computer that is not a laptop. So If I want to write anywhere other than the computer room in my house, I must use a notebook.
I've found that the best place in my house for writing is at the edge of the kitchen, where it turns into the dining room, on the floor leaning up against the counter-bar-thing. I often have to battle my cat for this spot, since she likes it as well.
A group of us went to Disneyland and wrote in various locations within the park as well as at the Grand Californian Hotel. That was fun and interesting.
Weirdest places you've gone to write
I might try camping out on a spin bike at the gym during the off-hours. Can they revoke your gym membership for reasons of artistic insanity?
Though I did squeeze in a few notebook pages on the mat while waiting for yoga class to start.
Where are the weirdest places you've written in (or want to write in)?

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I often write under my bed actually. Its the place I get the most done. I set a goal for myself and then I hit it before I let myself leave.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
REALLY? During week one, at a write in, I decided to write under my bed as an 'unusual place.' I still haven't done it yet, but you inspire me!
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I write while sitting in a tree or my old swing set from when I was young. I also love to type while sitting in my closet or in my dog's crate... hey it's productive!
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Wow, I would love to write in a tree! I wish I lived in a place where there were more climb-friendly trees, now...
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I used to read and write in trees all the time! Then my dad banded me from it when I got my first lap top. There's not too many trees where I am now anyway.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Aw, that's too bad. Although, I can totally see the reasoning behind not wanting a laptop in a tree... I'm clumsy enough on the ground! XD

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I want to write on top of Arthur's Seat which is an extinct volcano. The weirdest place I've written in would be the school cafeteria.

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I'm commenting from my new favorite writing place- the bathtub. Blankets? Check. Pillow? Check. Hot chocolate? Check. Good to go!
Other places I like to write: in a tree (when it's nice outside), on the roof, under my bed...yeah. :)
I like your gym idea. :D
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
The bathtub sounds like an awesome place to write, and I'm off to try it.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I've established a nice little writing perch on the counter top next to our barbecue. I'll often sit there during the rare occasions we get rain.

Okay, this is really random and off-topic, but I am in love with your icon.
One of my favorite movies. <3

In bed and, in a closet, and I would love to write on a roof :D
I have also written at a wedding reception *shot*
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
In 2009, I found myself writing at my great uncle's wake. I'm not sure which is worse. XD
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Lol I'm not sure which one is worse either. I was very tempted to write during the wedding but I knew that I would get mean looks for that xD
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
That's what the reception's for! Booze and word counts!
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
haha why thank you it's nice to know that I'm not alone on this, but yes when inspiration strikes people need to understand that we must write :D
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Weirdest place for me would be my maths class, and my youth group meetings. The closet sounds good though...
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Haha I do that too! I've gotten alot of plot kinks worked out in math, and a bunch of random cool stuff which pops into my head.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I wrote in a blanket fort last year. The thing took up my entire bedroom and it was pretty awesome.
Also, A+ icon!

Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
Psych outpatients reception. Was last year. Surprisingly inspiring place to be.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I wrote some of my scene between patients in the operating room.....
While labeled bad-ass for it, I may have gotten in trouble by the CIC when he found out I was not commenting on pt procedure.
woops.
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
I would love to write in a fort, and may in fact try it sometime. But for now I'm stuck at a computer that is not a laptop. So If I want to write anywhere other than the computer room in my house, I must use a notebook.
Closets sound like such a good idea, though....
Re: Weirdest places you've gone to write
You could build a fort over top of your desk.
