Are you seriously behind or haven't even started? I've got some good news for you. YOU CAN STILL MAKE It!
I type about 35 words per minute (slow, I know). For me, I do about 1600 words per hour of writing. By the time I factor in resting time, it's really about 1000 to 1200 per hour. Just for the sake of crunching numbers, let's go with 1000/hour. That means if you haven't started, you need 50 hours of writing to win. Just to be conservative, add about half again, and you get 75 hours. That should give you some resting time. So if you can set aside 75 of the next 96 hours, you can make it, even if you haven't started.
I'm fortunate enough to be (almost) halfway, so I only need 26 hours of actual writing, so with the half again added, I just need 38 hours to be able to complete my goal. Surely I can fit 16 hours of actual writing time into that. (The 16 comes from the actual time spent writing of around 1600/hour.)
Starting Monday, I'll be on Twitter following the hash tag #LMP (for Last Minute Push). If you want some encouragement, Just add that hash tag to your tweet, and I'll send some your way! I also plan on stopping in here and following and/or starting threads by other "last minute pushers". Together, I know we can win!
I went away for the week so have only done about 200 words in the last week! Still got 25k to go! D: I'm so determined to finish but have definitely got that "It aint gonna happen" cloud hanging over me :( Gah! x
that wat happened 2 me last year. i went away for two weeks with thanksgiving in the middle, and we were visiting friends on the east coast (that i had just moved to az from) and i did no writing during that...i lost that year...shockingly...XD
Went away to Berlin for almost a week, and that's on top of being behind all month long. Today I wrote 11K but still need to do a good 8K tomorrow and the next day to make it. Bleh, deadlines...
I tried to get caught up last week after being sick and a familiy crisis, but it didn't happen. I got burned out and had to take a break. Not to be a downer, but my limit is 4,000-5,000 words a day, however, I'm still working on my novel, and I'm determined to finish it even after Nanowrimo's over. So while I may not finish on time, I was finally able to give myself that kick in the pants to finish. So onward to the end! Whether we make 50,000 or not, let's all be a success. And thank you to everyone else posting words of encouragement. It's really appreciated.
I started out thinking I was so ahead I was I had days, I wanted to be done by thanksgiving and then the day after came and the day after and STILL NOT DONE...sighh wriitng like crazy, staying up all night I want to be done and relaz take a chill pill then edit like in a month or so....Ok...I...CAN...DO...THIS!!!!
I just hit 15001 words (yes I know I am miles behind) Just be happy with what you achieve, something is better than nothing. Besides there is always next year :) Now get off the forums and get writing!
I was exhausted at 3,500 words. I had intended to write another installment bringing me up to 8000 words. Now it is 10,000 words a day to do, 20,000 words all told with a surplus. I don't know if I will be able to cope. NB Nanowrimo has been my 'Writing ' [Fiction] period. I really ought to write Short Stories throughout the Year to get myself used to the genre.
I was pretty behind but I wrote for 5 or 6 hours yesterday. I know that doesn't seem like much to others, but it felt like a long time for me, with schoolwork and all that. I got 11,000 words written, and I was on *fire.* It felt incredible, to just be writing my heart out! To all those who may have given up just a bit: don't! You can do it.
I am sick today, so I am just going to pound out the approx. 6 000 words I need to finish. YEAH BUDDY! Then, when I am done, I will go into a vegetative state and hibernate for about a month... or work on the other novel that i kind of left hanging for the month of November! (That's after the "I finished" party, of course)
Hi Shelbino! I'm new at aanowrimo..would you please tell me when and how can we publish the book as I read at the description but didn't actually find any button to do it when I accomplished the novel. Thanks in advance ;))
I think we've all got the idea that 'It is just a draft' Yes, I too need almost a month off before I can even stand to see the thing again. I do believe you can give yourself a 'finish your novel month' any time you wish.
I'll be switching gears in Feb. National Poetry WRITING month, though Poetry Month is in April. 2012 is a leap year so I'll have to do an extra one, but I sure enjoyed it last year. I'm getting positive reviews from friends. I really would suggest a change up in style, whatever.
April of course is Script Frenzy month. Don't know if I'll do it this year. It was brutal last year. But amazingly enough Marvel comics have been putting their scripts and story boards in some of their collections.
I have short essays/memoirs I've been putting off for years. Maybe ---
:) Yeah, in December I'm going to totally start working on all my other stories again... well, not all seven of them, just the one I was writing crazy but stopped for nanowrimo. Anywho, have a great "I finished" party!
I have about 48000 so I'm definitely going to make it, but I am currently in a month long word war with a friend. She's at least 7000 word ahead of me. I doubt that I'll be sleeping until this is all over. -_-
Looks like we are going to have a lot of winners here. Keep on! You are almost there! What's a few thousand words anyway? A thousand here and a thousand there and soon you've really got something. But do take a break every hour, if even to get up to go to the 'litter box' and get more caffeine.
And YES! Major catch-up party! I did 17,000 words TODAY. Thank God for voice-activated software and a hideaway no one could interrupt me! I'm gonna go have a drink now and put my feet up for a day or two. Then it's time to edit! PARTY NOW THOUGH!
I know how you feel, I started over at day 5 with a new idea and, along with a lot of procrastination, it killed me. I haven't been on par since about day 2. But hey, with a lot of word sprints, we can do this(:
Do you have access to Word speech or something like that?
I had severe muscle spasms in my upper back the entire first week. I couldn't even concentrate enough to do warm ups (solitaire)!!! I just babbled along until I hit on a real story buried in there and then I totally switched gears and slid into a whole 'nother story. It helps because my alters are my MC's so they help me out (usually). They were planning a revolt once. I think I talked them out of it. Can't remember. (With DID, that is no surprise.)
I just hit 36k... so If I type 1000 an hour, that makes 14 hours of writing. :D And, I write faster than that, so I can shorten it to 10 hours. Rawr. 2 hours a day, and I still have school. I'm not sure I'll make it, but I can always try. I have a good chance! Plus, I can cheat because I live in a different time zone. So I'll have time to write in the morning before November is officially over for you guys. (I, uh, probably won't do that, only as a last resort...)
These are the last 96 hours, aren't they... I intend to be able to say "I wrote 70% of my novel in the last 96 hours" (it sounds slightly more impressive than "I only wrote 15K all month until I finally got down to business in the last four days" ><).
I'm pulling the only all-nighter I can now, because out of these 96 hours, 30 are guaranteed to go to classes, driving, and unavoidable projects (at least it's due the 29th, not the 30th). Never mind sleep!
Thanks for crunching all of those numbers for me! I feel a lot better now that I have concrete numbers to work with!
Push on through! My first Nano I finished minutes before midnight after writing 14000 words that day. Write in blocks of about 50 min or so, taking regular short breaks, and take the story wherever it wants to go. And it wants to go to 50000!
Go for it , everyone. I'm almost at 39K, but sleepiness has caught up with me tonight (this morning, actually). Time to turn in and get some Z's. I'm optimistic I can jump my total ahead tomorrow like I did today. I got over 7K today, and that's the most I've done in one day so far. It's going to take more of that to win, but I'm up for it. Go to the top and keep churning the keys out there.
You guys can all do it! I finally got caught up on Thanksgiving, but I'm going to push and see if I can finish today. I can write 400 words in a ten minute burst. I break for ten minutes then do it again. If thinking about 1000 words an hour is too much for your brain, see what you can do in 10 or 15 minutes and break it into smaller chunks. That's the only way I can get through November.
I've never had to do a 14K day, but I did do a 13K day last year and have done 10K or more on at least 3 of my 6 previous attempts/wins. I know I can get there. I still have plenty of time. At least I finally reached the "halfway" point ;)
The most I've done is a 10K day...and I absolutely hate my novel. I think if I even attempt this, I'll have to start a new novel. X_X Oh well, 50,000 words is 50,000 words...
I'm cringing as I write at this point. Some of it is so terrible. I still like my story, but it needs a serious overhaul. I can understand the new novel altogether thing, though.
Hey guess what: the great thing about NaNo is that it just gets you writing. If you have to totally revise it all-who cares? You'll still have written a novel, and after that it's all down hill! Good luck, everyone!
I really want to win, but my plot is slowing down, and I still have about 20,000 more words to finish >.< But luckily for me, the 30th is the strike day, so I get a day off school. hopefully I will get my novel finished then.
I love this thread!! I feel like everywhere I look is just people winning, and I feel so frustrated that it seems like I cannot finish. But I'm actually considering having a day off on Wednesday to use all Tuesday night - and all of Wednesday - to finish. But do you guys know if people have problems validating on the 30th? Because I've heard people say that you should finish as quickly as you can, and I don't want _website issues_ to be the reason for me not winning.
And last - good luck, everybody, and I'll see you on the #LMP hashtag :D
Some people are having problems validating this year and there are always word count discrepancies between word processors and NaNo's count. The good news is that you can test the validator now no matter how many words you have and make sure nothing wonky is going to happen. Find it under "Edit Novel Info" and in red letters choose "I'm ready to validate my novel." Copy and paste your whole novel into the box that pops up and hit submit to see how many words NaNo thinks you have.
I totally forgot to reply to you, but THANK YOU, I didn't know that!! And it was a really nice surprise, the validator told me I had about 300 words MORE than Word said. No idea why, but I'm not complaining :) Good luck with the last 1 1/2 day! :)
In twenty minutes I can fairly consitently write 1000 words, but then I need ten minutes off to refresh the creative part of my brain and warm up my fingers because typing makes my fingers cold.
oh my gosh i hear youu...i average like 1000words/25 minutes, but i take a "five" minute break and end up wasting time. If i keep my mind to it though, and sacrifice cold fingers, i can push through to do like 3000 words in an hour..i JUST broke 40000...WE GOT THIS!! :D
I didn't jump ahead as much as I wanted, but given the other activities today and a slight procrastination -- OK, maybe a bigger procrastination -- I had only 2,678 words, but it put me over the 41K, and that is feeling more like I'm going to get to that magic 50K.
I'm ready to plow back in soon, and I wish everyone the energy and drive to get this thing won in the remaining hours.
Woohoo! Had a 5K day yesterday, wrote more on the train, but these are BUSY days (I'm working from 9 AM to 8 PM) I'm holding myself to a minimum of 3K today and tomorrow, and the rest Wednesday.
I'm at 38,485 words so now only 11,515 words to go. Assuming I write about 1000 words per hour (actually I write more than that but I'm giving myself a little leeway) that's only eleven and a half hours of writing left.
My last minute push plan is as follows: Today: 2pm-6pm, 7pm-8:30pm (+ 5515 words= 44000) Tomorrow: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=47000) Wednesday: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=50,000 )
I'm actually hoping to exceed those targets, but we shall see. It is possible and I'm going to go for it!
Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Are you seriously behind or haven't even started? I've got some good news for you. YOU CAN STILL MAKE It!

Checking in. I am trying to write between 7,500 and 8000 words today to reduce average to get finished.
*Writing for the hell of it*
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Checking in 30,000 words limit breached but need to reduce my average words needed per day to catch up.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
I have written 48000 something words and I am so happy. I am hoping to make it 50k by the deadline:-)
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
good luck also gradyp! This is good, solid, inspirational logic. Thank you, I am only at 16K, but now I have more hope that I'll finish.

Did NOT think I could do 3K tonight, but met my goal and now only 8K to the finish! Somehow I believe my best writing is yet to come with the LMP :)

Woah! You have so many words! Congrats! Did you type all those in November? I bet it's a great novel!
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Looks like we are going to have a lot of winners here. Keep on! You are almost there! What's a few thousand words anyway? A thousand here and a thousand there and soon you've really got something. But do take a break every hour, if even to get up to go to the 'litter box' and get more caffeine.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Done it and won!! I have my strategy flesh out loads of plot ideas!

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
OW! Good luck and take care of that hand. What you need is a friend who is good at typing and taking dictation.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Now there's a thought!
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Hey, I stapled my fingers together a couple of years ago! It wasn't during NaNo...but I feel your pain. Both metaphorically and literally.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
It's very sucky. I can type if I ignore that finger, but it limits the width of my hands, making typing difficult.
And somewhat painful. I got lucky though, it didn't pierce bone so I didn't have to go to the hospital for an IV drip of antibiotics.
Which would have sucked more.

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
I'm planning on writing about 5000 words tomorrow so I can catch up, well I probably won't get to 40000 tonight so more like 7000
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

I love this thread!! I feel like everywhere I look is just people winning, and I feel so frustrated that it seems like I cannot finish. But I'm actually considering having a day off on Wednesday to use all Tuesday night - and all of Wednesday - to finish. But do you guys know if people have problems validating on the 30th? Because I've heard people say that you should finish as quickly as you can, and I don't want _website issues_ to be the reason for me not winning.
And last - good luck, everybody, and I'll see you on the #LMP hashtag :D
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
I've been pushing 5k a day since Thursday, I think I can finish, I KNOW I can finish it!
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
In twenty minutes I can fairly consitently write 1000 words, but then I need ten minutes off to refresh the creative part of my brain and warm up my fingers because typing makes my fingers cold.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
oh my gosh i hear youu...i average like 1000words/25 minutes, but i take a "five" minute break and end up wasting time. If i keep my mind to it though, and sacrifice cold fingers, i can push through to do like 3000 words in an hour..i JUST broke 40000...WE GOT THIS!! :D
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
I didn't jump ahead as much as I wanted, but given the other activities today and a slight procrastination -- OK, maybe a bigger procrastination -- I had only 2,678 words, but it put me over the 41K, and that is feeling more like I'm going to get to that magic 50K.
I'm ready to plow back in soon, and I wish everyone the energy and drive to get this thing won in the remaining hours.
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
Woohoo! Had a 5K day yesterday, wrote more on the train, but these are BUSY days (I'm working from 9 AM to 8 PM) I'm holding myself to a minimum of 3K today and tomorrow, and the rest Wednesday.
Cross your crossables, ladies and gents!
Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less
I'm at 38,485 words so now only 11,515 words to go. Assuming I write about 1000 words per hour (actually I write more than that but I'm giving myself a little leeway) that's only eleven and a half hours of writing left.
My last minute push plan is as follows:
Today: 2pm-6pm, 7pm-8:30pm (+ 5515 words= 44000)
Tomorrow: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=47000)
Wednesday: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=50,000 )
I'm actually hoping to exceed those targets, but we shall see. It is possible and I'm going to go for it!
