Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

Are you seriously behind or haven't even started? I've got some good news for you. YOU CAN STILL MAKE It!

I type about 35 words per minute (slow, I know). For me, I do about 1600 words per hour of writing. By the time I factor in resting time, it's really about 1000 to 1200 per hour. Just for the sake of crunching numbers, let's go with 1000/hour. That means if you haven't started, you need 50 hours of writing to win. Just to be conservative, add about half again, and you get 75 hours. That should give you some resting time. So if you can set aside 75 of the next 96 hours, you can make it, even if you haven't started.

I'm fortunate enough to be (almost) halfway, so I only need 26 hours of actual writing, so with the half again added, I just need 38 hours to be able to complete my goal. Surely I can fit 16 hours of actual writing time into that. (The 16 comes from the actual time spent writing of around 1600/hour.)

Starting Monday, I'll be on Twitter following the hash tag #LMP (for Last Minute Push). If you want some encouragement, Just add that hash tag to your tweet, and I'll send some your way! I also plan on stopping in here and following and/or starting threads by other "last minute pushers". Together, I know we can win!

See you at the finish line!

I just hit 36k... so If I type 1000 an hour, that makes 14 hours of writing. :D
And, I write faster than that, so I can shorten it to 10 hours. Rawr. 2 hours a day, and I still have school. I'm not sure I'll make it, but I can always try. I have a good chance! Plus, I can cheat because I live in a different time zone. So I'll have time to write in the morning before November is officially over for you guys. (I, uh, probably won't do that, only as a last resort...)

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

These are the last 96 hours, aren't they... I intend to be able to say "I wrote 70% of my novel in the last 96 hours" (it sounds slightly more impressive than "I only wrote 15K all month until I finally got down to business in the last four days" ><).

I'm pulling the only all-nighter I can now, because out of these 96 hours, 30 are guaranteed to go to classes, driving, and unavoidable projects (at least it's due the 29th, not the 30th). Never mind sleep!

Thanks for crunching all of those numbers for me! I feel a lot better now that I have concrete numbers to work with!

Go for it , everyone. I'm almost at 39K, but sleepiness has caught up with me tonight (this morning, actually). Time to turn in and get some Z's. I'm optimistic I can jump my total ahead tomorrow like I did today. I got over 7K today, and that's the most I've done in one day so far. It's going to take more of that to win, but I'm up for it. Go to the top and keep churning the keys out there.

You guys can all do it! I finally got caught up on Thanksgiving, but I'm going to push and see if I can finish today. I can write 400 words in a ten minute burst. I break for ten minutes then do it again. If thinking about 1000 words an hour is too much for your brain, see what you can do in 10 or 15 minutes and break it into smaller chunks. That's the only way I can get through November.

I love this thread!! I feel like everywhere I look is just people winning, and I feel so frustrated that it seems like I cannot finish. But I'm actually considering having a day off on Wednesday to use all Tuesday night - and all of Wednesday - to finish. But do you guys know if people have problems validating on the 30th? Because I've heard people say that you should finish as quickly as you can, and I don't want _website issues_ to be the reason for me not winning.

And last - good luck, everybody, and I'll see you on the #LMP hashtag :D

Some people are having problems validating this year and there are always word count discrepancies between word processors and NaNo's count. The good news is that you can test the validator now no matter how many words you have and make sure nothing wonky is going to happen. Find it under "Edit Novel Info" and in red letters choose "I'm ready to validate my novel." Copy and paste your whole novel into the box that pops up and hit submit to see how many words NaNo thinks you have.

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

I'm at 38,485 words so now only 11,515 words to go. Assuming I write about 1000 words per hour (actually I write more than that but I'm giving myself a little leeway) that's only eleven and a half hours of writing left.

My last minute push plan is as follows:
Today: 2pm-6pm, 7pm-8:30pm (+ 5515 words= 44000)
Tomorrow: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=47000)
Wednesday: 7am-8am, 1pm-2pm, 7pm-8pm (+3000 words=50,000 )

I'm actually hoping to exceed those targets, but we shall see. It is possible and I'm going to go for it!

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

I started today with 12,000 words to go. I can set a timer for 20 minutes and get an average of 1000 words in that time. It's all free association and I have a lot of typos to clean up afterward. But...I am positive I can get 6000 words today and 6000 words tomorrow and not have to worry about Wednesday.

I'm not saying those 12,000 words will make a good story. I'm not saying the whole 50,000 words will make a good story. But NaNo is for getting it down and if I can save the story later in edits.

When I won NANOWRIMO four years ago (the only time I won), I finished it in about 14 days. So, knowing that I'm only about 12k behind doesn't sound so bad with three days left. I think the most I wrote in a day that year was about 7k. I plan on sitting down to write multiple times today and not stopping until I write at least 1k a session.

Good luck everyone!

I would love to see some winners on this thread soon.

Er...... next year? Don't worry, I'm not winning this year. My advice? Do the novel whenever you get a chance. For me, November tends to be the busiest month of the year, and so my novel lacks. My goal is to write the story when I actually have a wee bit of time on my hands. Still in one month, but in a different month.... like March. March is an easy month. Or the summer. Either way, still try to get a novel done in a month, but don't feel like it *has* to be November. NaNoWriMo is more like guidelines than actual rules.

I had a whole weekend of no opportunities to write in the middle of the month and have ben scrambling to catch up ever since. I've always been a slow writer when it comes to fiction (maybe 600 words a day) so writing even 1700 words in a day, plus the catchup I am now doing, is a massive challenge for me. I have plot material for once; it's just a matter of getting it out on paper (or word processor, as it were). I'll be in classes from noon to 8 p.m. tomorrow, so today is going to be my last day of hurricane writing. I've had my eye on NanoWriMo for a few years now, and it's turned out to be a blast.

This month has been insane for me as well, but I am happy to say I finally pushed it on through and made it. I had such a dip in creativity about half way through the month that I nearly gave up in tears. This isn't the 75k I had started out wanting to achieve, but I met another goal as well as stubbornly pursued several dreams.

Keep going folks! I think I will use the last couple days trying for my original goal. This thread made me realize it is not quitting time yet.

Everyone, don't forget to check NANOWRIMO's word counter! It might be different than the one you're using. You don't want to plan on a certain number of words when you really need a lot more (I think someone said they lost more than 1000... Personally, I think I only lost about 100).

Good luck to you all!

The problem is that I know my story is going to end before 50K, so that might have been why I lost steam. So instead my goal is just to finish the story, and then at least I'll feel like a winner!

I'm pushing for 10,000 today, despite my current average per day being around 6,200 to get done on time, My primary goal is to reach the 50,000. Now for my bigger dillema, the novel won't nearly be done by then. I'm guessing it will be a revision and another 10-20K words before I even feel like the story has rounded out. We'll see what happens after I do the post mortem analysis to see how much needs to go and how much needs to stay in order to build a cohesive and intelligent story.

I decided to do my entire novel in a week, so that's 7000 words per day, which i did for the first day. I'm now only at 34,000 having written almost 8K today

Luckily I have wednesday off because of the stike, which gives me 17 hours of writing time, which should hake up for the 2.5 hours i have tomorrow

I started out so well too... I was WAAY ahead, but my estimate of how long I would need to recover from major surgery was pitifully low. Now I'm trying to make a final push.

I've written 3938 so far today. It's been hard to get any in with a 15 month old running around and driving me nuts by getting into everything! I've still got 22707 to go, but I'm determined to get it done! I figure I can try to pull some all nighters while he's sleeping. I'm going to be so exhausted, but it'll be worth it!

I'm in, y'all! Wanted to hit 40k today (started at 27,5k this morning), do 5k tomorrow and then another 5k the day after. I'm writing a bit slower than I hoped (need to do some research every once in a while, which tends to slow me down), but I'm confident that I'll make it. I'm going to try not to sleep before i hit 40k, though I'm already kind of sleep deprived and I've got school tomorrow...

Good luck to everybody who's doing that LMP with everybody else in this thread.

If I didn't have a paper due tomorrow and a take-home exam due on the first...

Still gonna attempt it though! I might just need to pull a couple all-nighters in a row, and crash as soon as I hand in my exam on Thursday... That should be interesting, considering I've never managed to successfully pull off an all-nighter.

Would also help if my novel didn't hit a brick wall today...

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

My tip: make it small goals at a time. For example, I'm writing in yEdit, which allows me to set how many words I want to write, so I insert the number of words I currently have, and there's a little option with "add 250 more to goal", "add 500 words to goal". If I do that, I will soon be seeing a minus in front of my goal, and that's a great encouragement, because in 250 word chunks, it just seems easier. Big numbers scare the hell out of me (as did my math teacher *shudders*)

Small, easily achievable goals, and before you even notice, you'll have written at least a couple of thousand extra words you did not even plan. So if your brain works like mine, this might just be the path to take :)

That makes it a Literary novel, not to be confused with the literary novels (please note the lower case l). Now on the other hand there are genre novels that can include humorous and extremely long segues into decriptions of moldy cheese and fantasy inducing brownies that caused the power hungry moguls to try and take over the world and corner the moldy cheese and divine brownie market for themselves...hold on that wasn't humor it was mystery/thriller/adventure...what the heck its all words. Now if I would just stay off the forums maybe I would get to the end, but their so addicting. 8)

I got behind during Thanksgiving, but I'm almost caught up!

I think the best thing to do is set multiple small goals, like write 500 words in one session. I like to reward myself when I reach my goals (like surfing the web or listening to my favorite songs for inspiration), which helps me push through when writing tougher scenes or stuck with writer's block.

Another thing that helps me is to skip writing the boring scenes and jump ahead to the fun stuff. It's amazing when you get lost in the story and realize later that you wrote 1500 words in less than an hour.

Good luck to you all, and don't give up now! You can all do it!

I tried to get caught up last week after being sick and a familiy crisis, but it didn't happen. I got burned out and had to take a break. Not to be a downer, but my limit is 4,000-5,000 words a day, however, I'm still working on my novel, and I'm determined to finish it even after Nanowrimo's over. So while I may not finish on time, I was finally able to give myself that kick in the pants to finish. So onward to the end! Whether we make 50,000 or not, let's all be a success. And thank you to everyone else posting words of encouragement. It's really appreciated.

As of this post I still have 21k to go before I can have a shiny purple Winner's bar. I thankfully have tomorrow off, it's currently 1.30am in the UK and I want another 2k before I sleep. I can leave 2-3k for Wednesday, but I don't finish work til 7pm so I need to write 14k tomorrow. I know it can be done, I just have to turn on Freedom and writeordie like mad ALL day and not procrastinate.

Good luck to everyone!
(with my late nights, I'm alternating coffee/tea with juice/squash and hot/cold mini meals about every hour to keep me as awake as possible. It's working pretty well so far, much better than trying to get all the coffee in the world to do anything bar make me fall asleep)

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

Actually, I do understand. Out of seven NaNos, I'm about to win only my second. The difference: For my two wins, I did as I was told and tried a new project, not the one that's been bugging me for twenty years.

I'd suggest two things to unblock your writing: First, forget about publication in the short turn. Write for fun. If you can't write for fun, I'd say you shouldn't be writing.

Second, start something new. Even now, at the end of NaNo. Go into the dares thread. The adopt-a-plot thread. Any of those may jog your muse free of the chains you've put around it, and get you writing.

Forget this book, at least for now. Definitely forget about publication until you've managed to write a book or two just for fun. Writing a book is something you learn to do by writing a book. Very few authors have their first books published, and most of those who do eventually get them published probably shouldn't have indulged themselves.

I've been where you are -- I was there for almost twenty years. I wrote diddly squat in those twenty years. It was only when I decided to start new projects, and to write for fun, that the words actually started coming out.

And as for me, at the beginning of the month I made one promise to myself: That every day, no matter what, I would write at least fifteen minutes per day. I kept my promise, and even though I behind for most of the month (I only caught up yesterday), I was never so far behind that I despaired of ever winning.

Anyone can do fifteen minutes per day, by hand, smoke signal, on computer, whatever. I've had an insane month, with two concerts, four orchestra rehearsals plus two dress rehearsals, on the planning teams for two huge church events, preaching two Sundays, minor surgery -- and all that's in addition to my regular schedule! Fifteen minutes at a time, and I breezed through the month.

And when November's over, I'm going to keep going, writing at least fifteen minutes per day. Friends of mine who make a living writing novels tell me that's the single most important habit they've developed, the one and only reason they can make their living doing what they do.

I know we've only got a couple of days left, but you won't add words to your novel by moaning and groaning that no-one understands, and you won't add words to your novel sorting your CDs and trying to choose the right mood music, and you won't add words to your novel by talking about what's going to happen next.

You add words to your novel by sitting down and typing words, fifteen or thirty minutes at a time.

Go you!

This is very true! I was definitely on a Last Minute Push this holiday weekend! I started out the weekend 19,000 words behind! Now i'm a whole 20 words ahead! Honestly, guys, if you really want to do it, do it. It's rough, I know, but this guy is right. You just got to do it! It helped me just to add fun twists in here and there to keep yourself interested. If you're bored with your novel, change it! It works!

I agree. I had a preconceived concept, but I really didn't have a set plot. I wrote for fun, and plan to revise it into submission for publication, rather than trying to tie myself down with too many restrictions. That has made all the difference. I imagine I might modify my tactics the next time, but fewer restrictions definitely aid in construction.

Successfully caught up and won before the deadline. :3 I found that the pressure of knowing I was behind combined with the pressure of knowing that I had work the next two days and wouldn't have time to write gave me a great deal of motivation to get all 9000 words done on my one day off.

NB Nanowrimo has been my 'Writing ' [Fiction] period. I really ought to write Short Stories throughout the Year to get myself used to the genre.

If you don't like the the idea of letting your novel loose on the internet, even for a moment, you can always scramble it first. There are instructions on how at http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/faq/how-nanowrimo-works. I haven't tried it myself (still a long way off being ready to validate).

I went back at it late last night and...

Lost all the words I'd written. :(

It was only something like 1400 though, and it probably helped me to get a good night's sleep, because if I'd add them, I would have kept going past midnight. As it is, I'm up and ready to write. As soon as my son's safely at work, I'm going for the win!

Congrats to those who have made big strides at catching up in the last two days! You rock!

Just breached 31K yesterday, but I told myself on Sunday if I really put my mind to it, the universe would find a way to let me finish it.

Today, my dad has school-Extra 6-8 hours to work on Nano
Tomorrow, practice is cancelled, extra 6-8 hours on Nano

So just put your mind to it and you can get it done.

I did it. I had to play 'catch-up' over the last few days to get within reach. The most I wrote in any one day was 6.5+K. I am amazed that I could write that many words. Previously, the longest story I have ever written was about 3K. I really did not know if I could do it. The trick for me was that I got so involved in my characters and what they were up to that the words flew onto the pages. Keep going guys - if little me can do it, I just know you can too!

I bid all the other late runners good luck!

My writing excuses:
1. I didn't take the novelizing seriously this year - I came for the forums. ;-) Next year, I might do a word count of my forum posts!
2. Got too many irons in the fire - singing with TWO choirs for Christmas concerts, family, sorting out my health insurance (apparently my policy didn't meet the new US Govt. mandates, [REDACTED] Congress!) and health issues (my carpal tunnel is acting up, had hell from it last December.)
3. Tried to write during a Thanksgiving trip, but thfe roadsea wweere trtoo dangth bumnpy !

I'm going to try my little heart out...

So far behind but I just did the math as I got ready for school
I only have 6 hours to write today because of class.
But I have almost all of tomorrow. I know it sounds crazy...but I might go for it.
35964 words left/23 hrs to write= 1566 words per hour/60= 26 words a minute.

I type about 45 words a minute but I can get up to 55 words if I don't go back to correct mistakes (so hard!) I think I can still do this! My math says if I can type 45 words a minute I'll only need 13 hours to finish. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

Here's to not procrastinating next year!

I did think I could finish, and still think I can. but my laptop had given up and so I won't be able to validate and I won't be able to continue chapters that need finishing as I can't remember where I'm up to! But still, I reckon I can get the extra 10K done just by writing more than I planned to for certain scenes. More phatic talk and modfiers.

made the silly mistake of dating a new guy friend this month. Silly me. Still have 30,000 words to go -16 hours at work! guess I deserve it, every year I done it before this one, I accomplished my goal early, I was in need of a hard month. and yet, I'm in the forums hahaha. I might have to sleep on my keyboard tonight :-)

That's exactly where I am. I won the last two years and I am refusing to give up this year. All of these people keep telling me that it's okay if I don't win because I still got X-number thousand words written that I would not have done otherwise. This is true, but if I don't hit my 50k, I'm going to be pissed.

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

So in the closing minutes of Day 29 I have just missed my self-imposed target of 30,000 words :( I can't complain too much. I have almost doubled my word count in the last 24 hours. However, 20,000 words is going to be a steep target to reach in less than 24 hours, particularly with other commitments on my time. I hope my lunch meeting doesn't notice me yawning as there is no way that I have time for sleep between now and then. I can see that I am going to be a happy bundle of stress at the last ditch write in tomorrow night.

Must stop writing words that aren't part of the count - next year I'm going to write about someone struggling to complete NaNo so that outbursts like this can be included. :)

Yesterday i wrote a woppin' 11,000 words and that brought my average to 14,000 words i had to do per day to finish (i only have 2 days, like you). I know i can finish. I had 10,000 words on Sunday and there is nothing stopping me from the 50 grand. Do what i do, 1)forget about everything else and just write 2) wake up extra early before work/school to write 3)Just write once again 4)stop lurking around NaNoWriMo's website and get to writing! and if you are staying up until 4 o'clock tonight, i can promise you that you are not alone...

For anyone needing inspirational music, I firmly believe that http://youtu.be/HZEmxby8g8A should be the NaNoWriMo anthem.

I think I have been though all the phases in this last month, although unfortunately the main one has been Charlie Brown mode. I'm currently in full on Lucy mode (27, 28, 29...)

Yeah . . . .You're probably I'm like slowest typer in my house XD I type like 10-20 words a minutes XD and I create word goals of like 2,000 words a day XDI set my expectations WAY too high I can barley accomplish typing for a 5 mins XD (it turns into a session of me sitting there for 2 hours that's the only way I got the word count I have think of what I could do if did that everyday XD)

Yeah I'lll probably end up typing something new for fun to make myself sit down and write (something I have and Unbelieveably hard time doing O_o)

Thanks though XD will take advice soon

It's very sucky. I can type if I ignore that finger, but it limits the width of my hands, making typing difficult.

And somewhat painful. I got lucky though, it didn't pierce bone so I didn't have to go to the hospital for an IV drip of antibiotics.

Which would have sucked more.

I am approaching 25k tonight and I hate what I wrote, but not wholly. I think instead of a novel its more a set of vignettes. It will need a huge overhaul in order to get a good plot out of it. It all looked so good in the outline, what a shocking thing to see that the puzzle doesn't fit when I put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). This is the most I have ever wrote in a single month and I am not going to make it to 50k in the next 20+ hours, but I am proud of what I did accomplish. Congrats everyone! I am not winning, but I am leaving with a door prize.
¡that is the attitude! congratulations winner, winn i our own challenges is better....

I will try for 40k tonight and I can scorunge together another ten thousand tomorrow, using snippets and character descriptions and ideas and stuff like that that I didn't add before, if it comes down to it.
Five days ago I was hovering around 18,000 words. I've written four thousand in the past three hours.

I'm attempting to do 20,000 in 21 hours. Eeek! I think I can do it--it's my fifth NaNo, and I've never lost yet, sometimes pulling 30K words out of thin air over the course of two days. I don't know why I've procrastinated every year except last year. Maybe I'm an adrenaline junkie.

Good luck to us all!

I thought I'd be able to write heaps in the last few days but then other things came up. I wish I could spend tonight, writing away til midnight, I'm sure I could reach at least 30 000 that way, which for me would feel just as good as a win at this point. Unfortunately I have to leave soon to play in a musical on the other side of town from where I live. It takes an hour to drive there, an hour to drive home and the musical finishes at 11 pm. Alas, there is always next year. And I will definitely finish this novel so there is always that. :)

I lost alot of time last night doing stupid stuff and I still have 23,767 words left to type! I have to get ready for work from 8:30 - 6:30 EST(mostly likely WILL be stuck there that long!) Plus, I am typing on one of the worst laptops in the world - I'll be typing and then suddenly the typing line-thingy will go up in a totally random spot and type somewhere else and I can't get a word down very quickly. It keeps happening at random! If anyone know a fix for that, help me out! :)

But, anyway, I'm not going to give up! I'm going to try to get something down on my lunch break and maybe even stay late on my work computer. Tonight, I'm gonna give it my all - no dilly-dallying, no procrastinating (anymore), no nothing. It ain't over until 11:59:59PM! :)

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

I was sick all last week and didn't get any writing done for several days. Add to that a massive case of indecision about how to lead up to the climactic battle scene, and I had a huge writer's block constructed.

My brother helped cure it.

Monday afternoon, he lit a fire in the fireplace without first opening the flue, and the smoke filling the house forced me to run away for a couple of hours. I took my laptop and sore throat to my church, where I hunkered down in the library and proceeded to knock out a few thousand words.

That got the mojo going again, and I churned out a whopping 10,003 words yesterday. So, that leaves me with the battle scene and loose ends to tie up, and only 4,537 words required to do so. I should have it done by supper time. :)

Keep going, my fellow procrastinators. You can beat this thing. :)

I think we've all got the idea that 'It is just a draft' Yes, I too need almost a month off before I can even stand to see the thing again. I do believe you can give yourself a 'finish your novel month' any time you wish.

I'll be switching gears in Feb. National Poetry WRITING month, though Poetry Month is in April. 2012 is a leap year so I'll have to do an extra one, but I sure enjoyed it last year. I'm getting positive reviews from friends. I really would suggest a change up in style, whatever.

April of course is Script Frenzy month. Don't know if I'll do it this year. It was brutal last year. But amazingly enough Marvel comics have been putting their scripts and story boards in some of their collections.

I have short essays/memoirs I've been putting off for years. Maybe ---

Do you have access to Word speech or something like that?

I had severe muscle spasms in my upper back the entire first week. I couldn't even concentrate enough to do warm ups (solitaire)!!!
I just babbled along until I hit on a real story buried in there and then I totally switched gears and slid into a whole 'nother story. It helps because my alters are my MC's so they help me out (usually). They were planning a revolt once. I think I talked them out of it. Can't remember. (With DID, that is no surprise.)

Looks like we are going to have a lot of winners here. Keep on! You are almost there! What's a few thousand words anyway? A thousand here and a thousand there and soon you've really got something. But do take a break every hour, if even to get up to go to the 'litter box' and get more caffeine.

In my time zone I have about 14 hours left to go. I want to win so bad this year! I have never won before. I can write about 2000/hour if I really concentrate, and even if I didn't have to be at work for at least 7 of those hours, I would still come up short. Although my actual count is a little bit higher than my bar because I wrote until I collapsed last night and haven't updated it yet. :\ Anyone think I should still try?

I've just made it! Feel so relieved and proud of myself. Not a bad achievement since I only wrote on 16 days out of 30. I'm pretty impressed with myself for managing to complete Nano despite being really lazy and doing nothing for half the month. Just think of what I could have done if I'd written every single day! Oh well, maybe that shall be my goal for next time!

Congratulations to everyone who has won so far, and good luck to those still writing. Remember it's not too late to win, so just keep ploughing on and it will be so worth it in the end. Even if you don't get to 50k, knowing that you've written way more than usual (and more than most people ever will in a month) feels great, and hopefully even if you didn't get far you will have some good ideas and material to work into a future novel.

Thanks to all you guys on the forums for your help and support, it was a blast!

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

On Sunday I was at almost 13k words. I've been in a funk for pretty much this whole month and have gotten next to nothing done. It took me nearly doubling my words to get to (nearly) 13k.

So on Monday I churned out 4,088 words. On Tuesday I pumped out a good 8,979. And today I have written 12,009 words total. And I still have four more sets of 3k words to go before midnight. That's roughly 12k more words I have to write before the end of the day. That's more than I have ever written in a single day at any point in my entire life.

I have nine and a half hours left, minus that dentist appointment later today.

Yup. Still trying. =)

Re: Catching up and winning in 96 hours or less

There are two things that I find just completely AWESOME about this "little' thread I started...

1.) All the lovely purple bars. They look absolutely beautiful! And if yours is full but blue (or if you DID get the 50K, but not verified in time), check with your regional ML. There may still be a way to get one of those beautiful purple bars for yourself.

2) And the BEST thing about the thread? All the support and encouragement shared. One of the most motivating things for me for the past 5 years has been encouraging others to reach for the win. I didn't do it as much this year, and I could tell by the way I struggled throughout the month to find time to write. Encouraging others to reach the goal is a fantastic way to get there yourself.

See you again next year as we gather at the starting line to start the writing marathon to the 50K finish line again!

Thank you for the encouragement & starting this thread!
I wrote almost half my novel in the last three days, gave up at 43k for two hours in the final night, and then cried and laughed with pure joy and disbelief when I passed 50k. What an amazing thing we have all done!
Congrats to all of you :)
