Females! Things Found In Your Room.

This question is for the gals. I'm writing a scene where my MMC visits my MFC's bedroom for the first time and I want to describe it as being a very non-typical female room. So that begs the question, what does a typical female bedroom look like?

In your room..
..what things are you proud of?
..what are your favorite things?
..what could you not be without?
..what color(s) are on your walls?
..etc?

FYI my MFC is in her early twenties.

Im not sure if I have anything Im proud of in my room, its a pretty typical room.
I like having all the pictures in it, family and friends, and the books everywhere, and the remington rand 1920's typewriter
i could not be without my writing desk, books and pictures
my walls are spunged pink with pink(basically i live in a pink box....i was little when i picked the colors)

In my early 20's I lived in a one room studio apt. The walls were white, except in the bathroom which was pale purple. I was proud of my painting of Louis Pasteur, who ruled over the kitchen. Also of my beautiful cats. Also I was proud of the way I drew little designs in the cat litter with the scoop after cleaning the box. (I think I had a lot of spare time then...) I did not have a TV. I did have a computer and a phone shaped like a frog. I still slept with a teddy bear in my twin bed. My dishes were cobalt blue glass. I had a Civil War reenacting dress in the closet, which also had rubber Halloween bats suspended from its high ceiling year round. I think I had some posters up... Plenty of books... A flowered futon couch hand me down from my parents... A rug with morning glories... Not a lot of money meant not a lot of fancy decoration.

My apologies. I realized that those who commented on how there is no such thing as a "typical" female bedroom are right.

My train of thought when I posted this was that I wanted to create a room for my MFC that was completely "her." In the description I want to say that there are no telling signs of the room belonging to a woman, such as a vanity or stuffed animals - which is why I asked for other "typical" things. Rather, I should have asked for common things to be found in female bedrooms, instead of generalizing.

All that aside, thank you everyone for sharing your rooms with me - I have lots of inspiration to go on now!

My walls are pink. Ugh, I hate that, but it'd be too much work to change it. I have a table covered in books, a nightstand with books, a dresser covered in books, some piles of clothes covered in books, a chest of drawers with (among other things) books and some books on my bookshelf. I have a lot of clutter from when I was a kid. Toys, stuffed animals and whatnot.

I'm not really proud of my room. I don't care about it. It's just a place to put things.

But what's on my walls and what little I'm even vaguely proud of pretty much exactly coincide, except for the miniature Christmas wreath (which is there year-round). I'm not proud of that. But I am proud of the drawing of someone in a sweatshirt looking emo (I did it while watching a play), the old and not so great drawing of one of my original characters (it represents a step forward in my style, but I've gone farther since), the first math problem of any significance I solved all by myself (disproving-- well into my teens-- the strong version of the assertion that "I can't do math")... I also once taped up a paper with goals I wanted to do (be charismatic, learn to understand math, etc.-- not great goals). I never did anything more with that. It didn't give me a good roadmap. But I never took it down. Oh, and some more things on my walls that aren't things I'm proud of would be two ribbons and two (or three?) locks of my hair.

I do usually keep my DS and GBA (and sometimes my PSP) in there when not using them, along with the chargers, and from one of the doors I hung all my DS games.

There are pens, sometimes pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, old diaries, etc.

I suspect my room may actually be non-typical. It will be fun to see the other responses.

Well...I'm artsy so in my room you would see

-Scrap books
-Walls covered in painting and sketching
-Crapload of books
-Hair care products all arranged in order
-Stuffed animals (I am unashamed)
-A TV
-Art kits
-Notebooks galore
-Before people killed them all electronics.

Basically

Put a vanity mirror. A TV nice dresser a pretty bed and then add little quirks that show her style

I am not typical in this regard...but maybe it'll give you some ideas anyway.

A minibass and an acoustic guitar in stands. I can't play guitar, and it's a right-handed guitar besides (I'm lefty), and I have a full-size bass, so both of these lovely instruments get used as hat racks. I hang my fedoras on the tuning keys :) There is a dresser, which has an earring stand on it, but I'm too lazy to put the earrings back in after I wear them, so it's mostly empty and there's a large pile of earrings, tangled necklaces, bracelets, charms, etc. in the little bin underneath and on the dresser's surface. There is also usually a random sock, a ticket to some concert I went to quite awhile ago, a wristband for a hospital lab, a couple marbles with dinosaurs on them, a stub of candle way too short to burn, a voting sticker (though I'm too young to vote), etc.

The walls are painted black with glow in the dark stars stuck to them. There are some posters for Green Day, the Clash, and Harry Potter stuck above the bed. There's a cardboard dragon model hanging from the ceiling. There are sneakers and boots on the floor, along with the papers I use to stuff the boots so they keep their shape. There are two little ottomans shaped like turtles (one was defective, so the company sent another free), with my sister's beloved teddy bear from when she was little and my beloved doll sitting on them. There's a small trunk pushed up underneath the windowsill and the plant stand, which has a few felt geckos and a handmade felt pony as well as the potted orange and ivy plants. There's a pachinko machine at the end of my bed. It's a loft bed; I sleep on the top, and the bottom usually has an acoustic bass and at least one pile of clean laundry I will eventually get around to putting away. There's a closet mirror in the doorway of my closet, which doesn't actually have a door, oh, and there's a bead curtain in my doorway.

Hope some of that was useful!

So you suffer from bass desires that got you into the viol practice of music? With all that lute, I'd call you a lyre!

I doubt I'm typical, and just moved in October, but I have:
Bed (takes up half the room. it's a small room) with pillows, duvet, fleece blanket, and a couple stuffed animals from my childhood
chair, with pillow on it (and usually some laundry)
writing desk (currently covered in basket of nail polish bottles, hair elastic/brush/etc box, pens, etc)
bureau, with books on it (bookshelves not yet hung), jewelry box, and other random stuff
2 paintings
3 family pictures
wreath with many, many family pictures clipped to it
blank lavender walls that are waiting for things to be hung on them
dark purple curtains
storage cube nightstand with laptop & ipad & lamp
closet, with clothes, boxes to be unpacked, and laundry

My walls are probably not that typical either because they are white (well, that's possibly not uncommon *lol*) but the posters on the are a) Deep Space Nine and b) a photo of Santorini. The rest might be somewhat more typical because there is my computer with monitor, printer and loudspeakers, tons and tons of CDs, books and manga and the space on the shelf between manga and the manga/anime/game figures (no, I'm not an otaku but I just love these things *lol*) is covered in cosmetics (mainly lipstick, eye shadow and nail polish in shades of silver, green and blue) and jewellery (nothing expensive. Most girl from what I know wouldn't have expensive jewellery lying around, only the things they wear every day).

I share my room with my sister, although neither of us use it much anymore since we left for college.

- The half of the walls are light yellow and half are white. We were in the process of painting them all a soft, light colored yellow years ago and never finished. It actually isn't that noticeable though.
- Two bookshelves.
- Large comfy chair next to one bookshelf.
- A number of books stacked on the small coffee table next to the chair.
- A light by the chair
- My sister's drawings and paintings on the wall
- Small, electric piano
- Two antique dressers (my mom likes to collect antiques) where we keep our clothes
- old trunk (my mom again)
- antique clocks - my mom's
- some beanie babies and stuffed animals
- I am into horses so there are horse head bookends, a horse table light, horse carvings, and the like since I seem to keep getting those kinds of things as gifts
- ribbons from horse shows
- My sister keeps a bunch of her lotions and other things on top of the bookshelf by the door because we have a full body mirror on the door
- bunk bed
- glow in the dark stars stuck to the ceiling
- 2.5 gallon fish tank on the bookshelf when I'm home
- A blue carpet. We didn't pick that color and I don't particularly like it but that is just what it was when we got the house.

I'm not really that proud of my room mostly because my sister is messier than me and keeps too much stuff and my mom puts her antiques and other crap in the room. It is too cluttered for my taste. My ideal way to have the room would just be the bed, a dresser, the two bookshelves, the piano, the chair, some of the stuffed animals, and some of the horse stuff.

For reference, I am twenty and my sister is eighteen.

I forgot, we also have a computer in the room next to one of the dressers. I really wouldn't say we have a typical female's room though.

Mine has the bed, no nightstands, a table (not a desk), computer, printer, and boxes. Yea... still moving in from 2 years ago :P

I also have a mini-refrigerator (4' tall) that's unplugged, and used for storage (bought it years ago).

The bedroom also has a wet bar in it. I have a few candles on it, and a hair straightener left out on top of the counter.

Is there even such a thing as a typical girl's room? ;)

In my room (that is, my entire apartment... theres only this one room, plus kitchen and bathroom, both about as large as a broom cupboard -.-), the walls are painted beige, red and orange (yes, I live in a furnace and I like it :) ), with gold-and-orange edging. One wall is covered with bookshelves, another with some cheap Ikea shelves (substitues for a dresser, there's no room for one...). I've got a TV, a DVD player, gaming consoles, lots of DVDs (movies, TV series and concerts), about a dozen dictionaries (1x French, 1x Spanish, 2x English, 1x Gaelic, 2x Finnish, and several German dictionaries for spelling, synonyms, foreign words etc.). There's video games galore, anything from survival horror to strategy - you name it, I have it. I also have an exercise bike which I use far too seldom. On my desk there is my computer, a stoneware jug from Spain with a matching cup, some candles, stray jewelry that didn't make it back into the chest, a CD with French lectures, and some cute plastic flowers my mom gave me because I just can't keep my plants alive...

...

Huh. That's way more stuff than I actually need รด.O

I don't know about anything that I'm proud of but I call tell you what's in it a bit.

My room is super small so my walls are white to make it look bigger. I have a blue radiator and bedding and door though.

On my walls
- NaNoWriMo poster
- Plot Bunny print
- Old birthday card from Nana with the quote "Go confidentially in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined"
- Print of Times Square in black and white with the yellow taxis.
- Small The Dark Knight Rises poster
- Postcards from friends when they've gone on holiday
- Self-taken photograph of John Barrowman and a concert ticket which he signed
- Photograph of me holding a falcon
- Photograph of my sister and I when we were really young playing on a beach together in a gold painted frame.
- Advent calendar (currently...)

On my only shelf is:
- Jack Skellington doll
- Sally doll
- Zero plush
- Digital photograph frame
- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Megazord figure
- "Poet Tree" incense burner

So my room is pretty standard and a bit random, really!

My walls are yellow and I have different random souvenirs and posters and pictures and things on them (ex. a sword from Toledo, Linkin Park concert poster, photos of me and friends, drawing of a walrus, first pair of pointe shoes, etc).

In the corner is a green beanbag with all my laptop wires on it. And the bedding is green. And I'm the girl who has so many stuffed animals they fill the bed and overflow. I have a bookshelf along one of the walls that's filled with books, journals, CDs, and little trinkets I've collected, and more stuffed animals along the top.

I don't know what I'd be most proud of...

I kinda have three rooms: my homestay room in Spain (which I can't decorate much), my dorm room (which I can decorate in non-permanent ways) and my room in my parents' house (which I can do whatever I want, within reason.)

Walls in the homestay room I really like. Three walls are soft yellow, and the fourth is blue with yellow sponge spots (don't know what those are called) that kind of look like clouds in a sky. It's really pretty. I painted my own room a light green, my favorite color. (Actually my favorite color is a bit darker, but that wouldn't work well for a room.)

In my parents' house, I have all my NaNo certificates up. On the corkboard in my homestay place, I have a program for a dance performance I did. My dorm also has a corkboard, and I hung up a letter I got from a client at work thanking me for what I was doing, a thank-you card from the kids I volunteer with, etc. These are my big "pride" things. I also have various postcards in each room, and some useful stuff like bus maps, my class schedule, reminders (pick up milk, you have a meeting today), to-do lists, etc. Both my dorm room and my homestay place have inspirational quotes hung up.

I always have a shelf set aside for tea and a drawer in my desk set aside for snacks. My desk is often by a window, but never facing one, and in both my dorm room and my homestay room I have a corkboard to hang stuff up behind my computer while I'm doing homework.

My dorm room has photos of my friends hung up all over the wall, mostly friends who don't go to school with me. The shelves in my homestay room are lined with cards and letters from home, presents I need to bring back, etc. I also have some posters in each room. Kittens in my parents' house, COEXIST in my dorm room and a women's liberation poster I bought from a street vendor in Morocco in my homestay. (I'm bringing that to my dorm when I leave.) That's one of my favorite things.

I definitely couldn't be without my stuffed bear, Watson. My friend knitted him for me and he's my best friend. In my dorm, I couldn't be without my electric kettle, which allows me to make tea or soup or oatmeal or whatever without leaving the warmth of my room. I also love the radiator in my homestay room, which sadly I cannot bring with me. Hand sanitizer is a must.

I also have a drawer specifically for papers, a place that isn't too obvious to put my medicine, a place to keep money, a shelf for my makeup (which is actually in the bathroom in my homestay room) and usually one spot in my closet for out-of-season clothes just in case of an unseasonable day. All my school supplies must be in easy reach of my desk. PJs go under the pillow, bed is always made. A mirror is a must-have. Basic convenience stuff, not too complicated.

A lot of things from when I was a kid - i.e., unicorns everywhere, as well as a goodly assortment of stuffed animals.
My medals from Forensics, which I am extremely proud of.
A few mediocre drawings by me, as well as some masterful ones done by my friends.
Photos.
A large, maybe 4 feet wide and 3 feet tall, piece of white cardboard with a number of brightly colored sticky notes with snippets about plot or characters scrawled on them.
Notebooks, everywhere.
Clutter.
Clothes all over the floor.
Books.
A music stand.
And not a single writing implement.

I resent the idea of a "typical girl's room." I don't think there is such a thing.

Anyhow, in my room you'll find a mess of things, such as:
-ribbons from horse shows
-Dallas Cowboys football memorabilia (from when they were actually good, dammit!)
-signed posters from various rock bands
-a ridiculous amount of photographs of me and my horse
-a ridiculous amount of books
-clothes... everywhere
-hay. Heh, it comes home with me from the barn... there's hay all over my house.
-assortments of various equine products, brushes, hoofpicks, a few bits, a halter, several pairs of horseshoes, a handful of horse treats, showsheen, half a bridle, a broken stirrup leather, a stud-kit (for studs on horseshoes, not... stallion studs), vet wrap, half a bottle of iodine, leather cleaner, two ziplock bags full of grain, a pair of spurs, and a bunch of other random horse things.
-notebooks and loose-leaf paper that is never quite where it belongs
-videogames and movies all over the place
-my bed and desk, which are always covered with so much crap I can barely use them for their intended purposes
-pens, everywhere
-a collection of hunting knives
-two pocket watches and a broken clock
-and a bunch of random trinkets

My walls are neon pink and neon green, and when I say neon I mean neon. My brother hasn't been able to go into my room since I painted it because the colors give him headaches. They're my cross-country colors.

Yeah, I began to realize after reading through people's responses that really isn't such a thing as a "typical girl's room." I wish there were an edit button.

My train of thought before posting was that I wanted my MFC to have a room that doesn't have the obvious tells of belonging to a woman. So I tried to brainstorm about what those tells were, and couldn't come up with anything besides: vanity, and stuffed animals.

Now I realize what I really wanted to know was what sort of unique, maybe even quirky things people had in their rooms, and on their walls. (You know, aside from the usual bed and closet) Like, someone mentioned a 1920's typewriter, and another mentioned a Spanish stoneware jug. Exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you to everyone who has replied, I definitely have some inspiration for my mfc's room now! :D

..what things are you proud of?
The pictures on the walls that I drew! And the walls, because I painted them myself, and the window because I fixed that up myself as well. So basically everything I made myself, I guess!

..what are your favorite things?
My books - I have over 200 books in my room, in two bookshelves and stacked on top of my other furniture. My art supplies. My computer. My katana, which stands beside my bed, ready for action just in case. And the fairy lights I strung up and use more than my proper lights because they give such a cool mood to the place!

..what could you not be without?
Uh, most of it. Mostly all my art stuff, my computer, my notebooks. Well, and my bed, I guess that's important.

..what color(s) are on your walls?
Mostly white, but... okay, it's upstairs, so the roof is slanted, and so two of the walls are only up to about my waist before they slant into ceiling. Those two walls are purple. And the carpet is a greyish-beige kind of colour, not that you can see much of it.

..etc?
It's quite zombie-proof! It doesn't have a proper door, but a TRAP door in the middle of the floor, and the stairs leading up are more like a ladder really. The stairs are fitted but not attached, so you could kick them down with enough effort. Then I figure I could pile furniture on the door, and they'd never get it open. And to defend myself, I have the katana, and there's a bow and some arrows standing beside the wardrobe as well so I could shoot them through the window.

Not that I put a lot of thought into this.

I don't have a TV or a dresser or anything like that. I do have a mirror though. There's a doll's house in one corner, which I got for my 6th birthday (I think). And I have a load of decorative things, lots of dreamcatchers hanging in various places, a wind chime, seashells, little souvenirs from Paris and Amsterdam, pretty things like that. And lots of mess on the ground. I think that's pretty much it!

Hmm I think most of the things posted so far fall under "individual taste", but here are some things I not only have, but pretty much all of the gals I know (to some degree or another) have as well:

-Pillows...fact is, most gals like pillows. Maybe that's just me though...

-Jewelry of some form.

-If you have recently gotten a gift from Tiffany's, Coach, ect. you will usually see the box/wrapper/bad/slash item proudly displayed. My best friend has slowly amassed this corner chalk full of her expensive boxes, I don't think she will ever get rid of them.

-Bras, lets face it, like guys our stuff ends up everywhere. Mine hang on a coat rack, I know, I'm weird.

-Photos

-Sentimental items

-Magazines, (Cosmo, InStyle, Glamour) almost every girl has her stash even if she denies reading that sort of thing.

-Odd bits of makeup

I have my stuff spread out over a whole apartment now, but here's what was in my room when I was still living with my mum:

In your room..
..what things are you proud of?
- the bookcase I built from scratch, all by myself
- come to think of it, my desk too - also built that myself
- group pictures from the meetings with a group of online friends

..what are your favorite things?
- one transparent plastic bin under my bed containing an axe, two sickles and the rusty remains of three WW2 pistols we found buried in the garden
- all four Hogwarts house banners hanging on my walls, hand-painted on silk scarves
- the lamp my dad carved out of a hollow tree trunk
- a picture frame with a cute picture of my younger brothers. Well, picture frame... you know when you cut a large branch off a tree, the bark grows over the cut? Someone cut off that circle of bark, and I turned it into a picture frame

..what could you not be without?
- bookcases (there were four of them)
- my houseplants (I had several dozen crammed into a room of about 3x4 m)
- mosquito net around the bed, because I love sleeping with the window open

I really missed having a hammock in my room, but there was just no room for it.

..what color(s) are on your walls?
two green, two yellow.

..etc? Well, the nececessary furniture - bed (a little higher than normal, for extra storage space), desk and chair, bookcases. And a makeshift sofa made out of a guest matress and a sheepskin. Nomirror. No makeup. I still don't even own such things.

Strapless Red Satin

I/my family has moved nine times in the past two and a half years, so I had to cut down on clutter and threw away almost everything decorative, except for my Hufflepuff banner. My dorm room has a lot more personality, but the posters on my side were all given to me by my roommate.

Alice Majella
50041 words so far Winner!

..what things are you proud of?
The fact that my room has a ceiling, which it didn't for about six months this year.
A piano on one wall, which seems to impress visitors.

..what are your favorite things?
I think I get too used to my room to have 'favourite' things in it...

..what could you not be without?
Computer - although that's often a laptop which is somewhere around the house.
Piano, violin and guitar, most of which reside in my room most of the time.
A huge store of notebooks, which lives in one of the cupboards.
Bookshelf with everything from the Bible to Little Women to A Complete Guide to Middle Earth.
Music collection (sheet music, enough to cover the whole top of the piano, plus extra cupboards)

..what color(s) are on your walls?
Pale purple, and recently painted.

..etc?
My room is usually a complete mess, which I'm not particularly proud of. Also, as an example, right now there's a mattress on the middle of my floor, because my best friend slept over about a week ago and I haven't picked it up yet. There's also a lot of stuff lying around such as clothes, bags (handbags, backpacks etc.), books and also nailpolish, moisturiser etc. I never wear nailpolish, or use moisturiser, so I think these things just sort of appear because they know they should be in a teenage girl's bedroom. (I'm 18, by the way.)
