permanent facial scars from gunfire; urban crossfire

I need expert help on the following:

A hallmark of Mexico's narco wars are gunfights at traffic intersections. I need the driver to be killed and the front-seat passenger to suffer permanent burn scars on the left side of said passenger's face. I have in mind a scarred left cheek and missing eyelashes/eyebrows on an eye that can still see beneath its scarred but working lid while the right side of the face remains unscathed.

I think you need to be more specific on what you want help on.

What do you deed to make your story work?

Drive shot with specially made 12gauge rounds using thermite/magnesium/something.

Oh. You need to know what kind of weapons?

I suggest any kind of gangbanger firearm, followed by a molotov cocktail for fun and profit.

For higher-ups, highly decorated 1911-pattern pistols in 38 super is something of a status symbol, other than that it's a healthy mix of whatever they can buy on the black market or steal from the millitary/police

Who is your passenger? Random civilian? Drug Lord? Gang Banger?

One idea is that the passenger in the car lets off a long string from an automatic weapon. The barrels get very hot very quickly (one person was able to cook bacon wrapped on a machine gun barrel with 150 rounds) and if his face gets pressed into the barrel that's 2nd/3rd degree burns easily.

White phosphorus grenades are rather unplesant when used on soft targets

It could be done as a punishment, the rival gang deliberatly branding your character to make a point, or just pressing his face into the still-hot engine block.
