idea's for a cult.

My FMC was raised by a cult after her mother died (Victorian era) . The people who took care of her used her for money as 'an angel' (she was born with feathery shoulder blades and her elbows also have feathers.) Later in her childhood if she disobeyed they would punish her in some way. Her hair has been constantly shaven off (and bleached) since she was a child since the leader of the cult said that the color was evil. (bright red) This is what I have so far, but it would be nice for some idea's as far as the cult goes (I will not use a real one but something realistic would be nice.) :)
Some help I would like:
-Name and rules of the cult
-possible punishments for disobedience. (That may/will scar her)
-Possible treatment she would receive when she behaves?
-escape is something in the near future in her story, Do you think she should take revenge or just run away?

I have a few questions. Did the people in the cult believe she was an angel, or did they just use that as a con to get money from people who did believe it? Did the leaders know she wasn't an angel but pretended she was one to the rest of the cult so they would pay their tithes, because clearly, a messenger/warrior/whatnot of God being in their midst meant they were the "Chosen People" or whatever?

Now, on to your questions. The name of the cult will probably be something pretentiously in-your-face Holier Than Thou, but exactly what it is depends on a few things: What religion (if any) the cult bases its beliefs on, what the goal of the cult's practitioners is, whether the founder/leader believes their own propaganda, how long it's been around (some cultish sects get more pretentious names as they go on), and what the beliefs are. The rules of the cult will probably be very strict, it being a cult, but you can make it easier on yourself by choosing a religion for this cult to have based its beliefs on and making those rules stricter and expanding on them. As for possible punishments, that depends on whether you want physical or emotional scars. The treatment she receives when she behaves can vary wildly, from getting the basics of food and a bed to being pampered and worshiped. And whether she takes revenge or not is up to your character, not me. Although if the cult is powerful enough, she'll end up having to take some kind of action to keep them from trying to capture her again.

anyways to your question: The leaders know that she is not an angel but they tell the followers that she is. mainly indeed for the money they can/do get to see a real angel and for 'holy rights'.
