Blood and Clockwork (interest, sign up and discussion) http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/role-playing-and-communal-story-building/threads/50143 Katherine Jane Hey this is a story idea I’ve had for ages and I’ll probably still write with all the other ongoing stories probably not in the near future but I think the idea might make a passable role-play at least so post if you’d be interested in this :) Basically archways have begun to spring up across the planet, (set in the far, and grim, future) and through these doors people have discovered dead words, no warmth, no water, no life, that sort of thing. However there are what appears to be warehouses were strangely human children with strange mechanisms implanted in their brains, are stored in a state of suspended animation. (And yes there is a reason for all of this but unless people want to know now I’d rather it come out during the course of the role-play.) Now as human scientists have since claimed the clockwork children as they call them, they have discovered that each child possesses an ability utterly unique to them and they seek to use these abilities to further mankind, giving the children no choice in this matter at all. However not all of the clockwork children reached the laboratories and they have spent their lives in the general population, unaware of what they are and as they find out they have a choice, to seek refuge in the laboratories or to live as fugitives, on the run from the government and the scientists. And inside the laboratories a hint of rebellion is stirring as the clockwork children seek to break free of their prisons and seek out the true answers to who and what they are no matter what the consequences. -------- Well if this is something you feel you might be interested in playing then post below :) Character Sheets (If you feel up to playing several characters you can have a maximum of six. Name: Zenobia Age: 22 Role: Clockwork Ability: Life itself, Zenobia can heal others and even sometimes bring them back from the brink of death if she has the inclination which isn’t often. She also has the rather inconvenient situation of flowers growing in her footsteps. Position: Inside the laboratories Appearance: A tall young woman with red hair the colour of lava falling loose to the centre of her back and snake like eyes the shade of dirty green you get on your finger after wearing a copper ring for too long. Black and grey tattoo’s and strange markings go up her otherwise, body, from the feet to the base of the throat, no one knows what these mean and they frighten her but she won’t admit that. Vines grow out from her feet. Personality: Proud, arrogant and not a little ruthless Zenobia is perfectly capable of turning someone else’s life upside down to get what she wants and she’ll only rarely feel guilt. With Zenobia you catch more flies with vinegar than with honey. Background: A clockwork child Zenobia escaped the laboratories for a while as she was protected by one of the scientists who proceeded to raise her. After Zenobia’s adoptive mother was hunted down and killed however Zenobia was chased down and incorporated into the labs. Now she’s become obsessed with the idea of escape and the hunt for immortality, something she fells the clockwork children could potentially have. Terrified of dying and paranoid that the scientists will soon execute her for her rebellious nature Zenobia is the leading force in the rebellion. Other: Due to the aforementioned flowers Zenobia fills her shoes with salt in an effort to stop the flowers from growing. Name: Alexander Kirk (Alex) Age: 17 Role: Clockwork Ability: Controls electricity. Position: Outside the laboratories Appearance: A skinny, pale skinned boy with unruly brown hair and black eyes. He wears messy clothes such as dirty trainers, ripped jeans and tee shirts with slogans. Personality: The joker, Alex cracks jokes at every opportunity, especially when others provoke him. However he is actually very serious and thoughtful underneath although it is easy for Alex to give into his vices and turn to drink. Background: A clockwork child Alex was raised with his twin brother outside the laboratories, having originally slipped the net and even went to school. Throughout his life Alex has been aware of his gift and that of his brothers and has tried to understand and keep them off the radar. Once his brother’s gifts escalate they are forced into life as a fugitive as they seek to gain refuge in the labs under their own terms. Other: None. Name: Amorian Kirk (Mori) Age: 17 Role: Clockwork Ability: Amorian corrupts any living (other than Alex) with a single touch with diffrent effects. Position: Outside the laboratories Appearance: A skinny, pale skinned boy with unruly black hair and black eyes. Lax about his appearance Amorian wears Alex’s clothes although later he ends up covering his skin as much as possible with long sleeved shirts and evening gloves. Personality: Sober and miserable, Amorian is on the brink of depression. Background: A clockwork child Mori was raised with his twin brother outside the laboratories, having originally slipped the net and even went to school. He was kept unaware of his powers by his brother to disastrous consequences and since his girlfriend, Rachel, committed suicide under the influence of his ability he and Alex have been on the run. Other: Has taken it upon himself to protect Atheria Name: Atheria Alcott (Theia) Age: 15 Role: Clockwork Ability: Shape shifting Position: Inside the laboratories Appearance: Small and mouselike Atheria has dark skin and deep brown hair she wears in plats and brown eyes. Personality: Sweet and shy Atheria has been kept separate from people her own age for most of her life and as a result she is naive of many social graces. Background: Atheria has bemused the scientists as there is something different in her blood to the other clockwork children and as such she has been kept separate her entire life and monitored. If they use magic willingly then there are bad consequences to go along with good and if they don’t then the magic is sometimes something they can’t handle or control. For example, you might be able to talk to spirits and gain required information but it would cause you pain to do so and might actually damage your health and weaken you each time. Lesser magic is good to and using less powerful abilities means you have fewer nasty side effects. And I know I really shouldn’t add another one but I’ve sort of just realised if somehow all other scenarios fail she might be needed, besides I’ll probably need her to interact with the twins at some point. Name: Rebecca Kirk Age: 55 Role: Head Scientist Ability: None Position: Both (yes I know) Appearance: A tall kindly looking middle aged woman with messy dark salt and pepper hair and dark eyes. She tries to make an effort sometimes but is nearly always rushed and so the overall effect is messy nonetheless. Personality: Genuinely pleasant and motherly Rebecca sees the clockworks as her own children and she does what she can to make life brighter for them although even her influence has limits. Background: Rebecca discovered the other worlds before anyway one else when she was five years old and she managed to keep them secret for ten years during which time she learned as much as she could about them through less painful ways than experimentation meaning she probably knows more about the children and the actual worlds than anyone else alive although this is a secret of course. She managed to rescue two of the clockwork children, twin boys, from the scientists and managed to pass them of has her sons (Alex and Amorian) risking the wrath of her family. Rebecca has kept them save over the years and she has tried to do the same for the others as she has clawed her way to the top of the laboratories through pure obsession. Other: Yes she is basically a shortcut to finding out all the secrets of the clockwork children and the worlds which you can decide to take if you want to but even if anyone decides to take it you still have to find her out. And ordinary humans are good to since they could be allies to one side or the other. She can’t read minds or literally control you, but she can basically make you thoroughly convinced you need to do what she says, and she can also attack someone’s mind and torture it. Position: Inside labs Appearance: About 5’7” with a somewhat curvy figure, slightly tanner skin. Curly brown hair that’s only a little darker than her skin and hangs a little past her shoulders, usually styled perfectly. Wears very elegant, stylish clothing, usually low heels. Perfect nails, perfect make-up, flawless skin. Probably of Asian descent, with tilted, but sort of large brown eyes. Fine, delicate features, with a narrow face. Has a very good posture and holds herself very regally. Personality: Sugary sweet on the surface, super friendly and charismatic and likeable. A bit high-maintenance, with a very feminine personality, and an attitude like she’s in charge. She expects people to listen to her, and she expects to get her way. She has zero empathy for other people, and can be rather cruel and vindictive, but rarely lets anyone see that side of her unless she knows she has them wrapped around her finger. Time moves differently in the other world and they have all gone now, it’s just an empty wasteland although it might not always be so, a twist for later. Also Contemptus I’m sorry to say this, I had thought it would just be Amorian this applied to but with the nature of De’s power I guess it’s for her as well now. They are physically bared from the other world unless something happens in that world first which I'll make clear at the time. Basically there are these ‘Shadows’ or ghosts living in the forest which only their priestess is allowed to enter since the ghosts supposedly eat human children (they don’t, I’m not that bloodthirsty). The shadows were those clockwork children who did not mange to escape the human scientists, and they take it out on the human population of the world who came through with the clockworks to prevent the ghosts. Maybe in this case they could come through to save the children since Sacha and Poppy are going on a rampage, or an assassination attempt for Amorian or Zenobia wouldn’t go amiss since Amorian's ability will makes Zenobia dangerously insane, turning her into a powerfully destructive force aided by Ulric...however this couldn’t really be allowed to succeed otherwise the entire planet would die since I’m relying on Zenobia’s ability to make the world habitable. Charlie and Chase are trying to break Melanie and Caspar out of the lab while Rene and Clara are trying to convince Sacha and Poppy that they are students and that they want to help out around the lab. There are these shadow-y ghost things that are clockworks from the future that died in the labs. They're floating around in this time and could cause some problems. The nice scientists are outside aiding the children who are still free since they can’t go back into the labs whilst Sacha and Poppy have taken over control of the labs and are experimenting on the captured children. Meanwhile people are beginning to appear from the other world. At the moment the two main settings are the labs and Kirk’s house. She’s my character and the head scientist who was only in the job really for the welfare of the children. The clockwork children were in suspended animation in the other world. Most of them were woken up by the scientists although a few were rescued before they came on the scene, allowing them to slip through the net. So anyway if you start out in the labs its fine and you're able to move around within limits. After the world was set on its course for growth the characters could go pretty much whenever they liked, other than the scientists of course who physically cannot get through the archways.
