For the most part, we're going to assume you're adults here, so that we don't need to hand-hold you through everything. This is not an all-ages forum. With that said:

  1. No explicit sexual content permitted - as per the Terms and Conditions, we can't have sexual content anywhere on the site. Referring to it is fine, it may not be described. While this is not an all-ages forum, and therefore you don't have to watch your language, we must remind you that explicit content is best kept elsewhere; If you'd like to continue something, please take it off of the forums. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you see content that you feel violates this rule, PLEASE, please report it. We can't take action on it if you don't report it. Telling non-moderators doesn't help, and doesn't change anything. Please report questionable content (use the Request for Review option of the report menu if you're not sure.)

I need YOUR help keeping this forum free of sexual content.

Please fade to black before any sex occurs; even using non-explicit words is out of bounds.

ALL posts must abide by our Terms and Conditions and Codes of Conduct. Please report violations using the "report" button at the bottom of the offending post/comment. All reports are private, and viewable only by staff.

  2. You NO LONGER have to restart threads at 500 posts! This means you can keep on trucking. This may be changed in the future, but the 500 comment limit was a "feature" of Drupal, and we're on Ruby on Rails now, baby! So post away, and no need to fool with versions or thread numbers. If you do start new threads, they'll be close and referred BACK to the old one (backwards, huh?)

Roleplaying threads will not be deleted until the Big Site Wipe prior to each NaNo season, so if you want to keep archives of these, you are responsible for doing so yourself. We won't be responsible for any content lost, or be able to guarantee you access to it those archives, since they are often shut down for site performance reasons, or may be not be posted in a timely manner.

  3. Do not attempt to exclude other posters. This is a public forum, and if you're after a private conversation or roleplay with only certain other people, then I suggest finding a more private forum for your needs. With that said, posts intended to disrupt the flow of a roleplay may be reported to the moderators (trolling isn't permitted.)

This does not guarantee you the right to be responded to.

  4. Respect your fellow roleplayers/writers. It's not polite to take control of someone else's character without their permission. If they have posted guidelines for their roleplay threads, please respect them. If you don't like their guidelines... start a thread of your own! There is no limit to how many you may start, participate in, or whatever. Please note, that moderators will not be responsible for making sure people stick to the rules of individual threads. That's up to you.

Ask before jumping into an established roleplay. Some of these storylines have been going on for a long time, and it's rude to just jump in without asking, because you may disrupt a plot. The best way to do this is either find the chat thread, or PM someone who is actively participating in the thread. Just because someone can't be deliberately excluded doesn't mean that it's polite to just jump in willy nilly. I think you'll find that the majority of people here are welcoming, and love fresh blood. They just want to work you in. :)

  5. Only roleplays or shared worlds may be posted here, or their corresponding chat threads. Other threads should go to a more appropriate forum.

Do not advertise for other websites (even if they're roleplaying forums) here. We have the marketing and self promotion forum for that.

DC or anyone with an answer:

Is there somewhere we can go to get our old settings back or learn how this works? I used to have all new posts at the top but now some appear at the top and others at the bottom and for RP purposes that can get VERY confusing. Is there a way to fix it so that we can have all posts appear in the proper order at the top of the page like before?

Also, is it just me, or is the edit feature completely gone now once something is posted?

All of these questions are answered in Tech Help. :) We're not quite done with development yet. More is coming!

Just to ditto Star really - the option for 'Flat List' post displaying (and quantity preference) back would be awesome! I can see that the customise forums option will be coming soon, will this come under that when it gets up and running?

And the edit function back for posts. It's something of an o.0 to be lacking!
(incidentally, have all our nanomails from last year been lost permanently, I logged in and they were all gone :( after reading that it should only be those over a year old that get deleted).

I do want to add though that the crossover to Rails has seemed pretty smooth from a users pov - I didn't come across the site being down or it being really slow like last year! Congrats guys! :D

(Nanomail is not gone... they got waitlisted in favor of geting the new site launched last night.)

*sheepishly goes off to read the tech help*

Thanks so much for responding though. I know it must be an enormous task for you all! You're doing a fab job as always :)

*raises hand* Question!

Okay, so I'm not sure if I've got this down... we make a discussion/chat thread for the RP with rules and character forms and the like first, then when we've enough people to play we start the RP itself, right? *hopelessly confused, sorry* We didn't have the discussion threads over on the YWP, we just spammed parenthesis...

Senom299:

Yep, that's right. It keeps things more organized--we still spam parentheses, but its good to have a spot for our out of context conversations.

Happy RPing! And welcome.

I know we no longer need to start a new thread when we hit 500 posts, but is there a recommended maximum number at all for a thread before a new one is necessary (beyond for navigation reasons in terms of number of pages to go through perhaps)?

Hiya Doc Hilda! All Roleplaying threads remain open for the life of the Roleplay :) Any new thread started will be locked with a link directing users back to the original thread.

There will be no creating of new threads for an already in-play, existing Roleplay! Huzzah!

Anyone starting a new roleplay obviously will be making a new thread, but none of the current roleplays will have new threads :)

Hope that helps

I iz confoozed: do we HAVE to set up a thread to define the terms (Marquis of Queensbury rules and all that), or can we just jump in with a new thread for the role-play? (sorry, never done this before).

It's not required, but it's standard operating procedure around here. Having the separate thread keeps everything organized, and its easier to find character descriptions, etc. Also doesn't clog up the story with OOC conversations.
Have a good time RPing 'round here! We're a friendly bunch.

Tell me how NaNo rp works. Surely message board rp doesn't count as a novel... Is there rp that goes on here outside of November when we aren't pushed to write against a deadline and have time to devote to a character?

alannathelioness

the RPs continue until the forum wipe, which happens about a month before NaNo starts. So yes, RP happen outside of November, most of them you can join anytime.

So, can we include "seeking RP partners" threads for those of us who don't prefer group RPs? Or is this only "group RP only" forum?

andreeacarmen

The answer is yes you can include "seeking RP partners" threads. There were plenty of these so far.
