AU High Discussion thread

The Discussion and Character Thread associated with the AU High Roleplay. A shocker I know given the thread title.

Anyway, first off some ground rules.

1) As a thread on the Nano site you are expected to abide by the wider forum rules. The most likely one to get broken given the characters we're dealing with (i.e horny teenagers) is probably the sexual content one. There's nothing wrong with your characters having such relationships, but if things do start heading in that direction you will be required to fade to black and then carry on with whatever you like in PMs.

2) There is a very convenient and lovely 'Leave of Absence' thread now stickied in the forum. If you are going to be away from the RP for a couple of days if would be awesome if you could leave us a heads up in there. Even more awesome would be if you could leave a heads up in this post or in an OOC comment in the main thread, just so the people you're mostly interacting with will find it.

3) Nothing is currently off limits as far as RP content goes, but there are a couple of things that require some sort of warning in the post's subject/title thing if your post features them. Currently this is just motor accidents (especially involving trees) and pill induced overdoses. If there is anything you would be really upset to come across in the course of posting, let me know and I'll make sure it's added to the list of things requiring warnings. I will also try to let you know via PMs whether something of that nature has appeared in the main thread. Details of who has requested what will not be shared unless the person chooses to do it themselves.

4) Drama limitations! A slightly controversial one perhaps, but one I'm thinking is necessary due to some incredible OOC confusion towards the end of the last thread when a large amount of drama hit the fan all at once and that the drama of some characters was starting to eclipse the entire existence of others, which I didn't think was fair. So, I'm limiting it to one bout of serious drama per author per in game fortnight. With the amount of players we had this still leaves plenty of opportunity for dramatics kicking around the place, but it can be spread out a little more.

5) Announcing your drama! More a guideline than an actual rule, and kind of connected to the point above, but I thought it should have a place of its own. If there's something you've been planning to happen to your characters but you don't want it to get shoved to the sidelines by other drama going on let us know you've got something on the boil and a rough time frame for when you want it to kick off, with a request than nothing else big happen until it's done so. Since we're all nice people will shall try to accommodate you. Those who refuse will be subject to DM's 'disappointed face'.

6) Character limitations! Only four main characters per author. If you can't handle that many there's no requirement to go that high, but no more than four allowed. You are allowed to populate your characters lives with other people (parents, siblings, generic friends in or out of school) but these are effectively NPCs and so aren't allowed to have much of an impact on the storyline. Also, as NPCs they are subject to other people picking them up and playing with them, although I would ask that people stay within the character already established for such people.

7) No more new students. This of course doesn't mean 'no new players', those are welcome at any time, but their characters must have been already present at the school. While I know new students can technically transfer into schools pretty much whenever during the year, AU High has already had a ridiculous number of new students this academic year and so they've kind of closed their gates to such things now. There is, however, one small exception...

8) Exchange Students! For a limited time only I will be permitting a few exchange students to come to AU High. Please don't set your heart on this idea because I will be restricting places. If you wish for your character to be an exchange student please PM me with the details and I shall let you know yay or nay as soon as possible. Also, if pre existing students wish to act as host families for some of the exchange students also let me know and we'll see how things pan out.

Name: Tornica Littlefeather-Smith (although he's currently using just the Smith part of that)
Age: 16
Grade: 11
Physical Description: 5'10" with straight black hair, dark brown eyes, and brown skin. He's grown out of any adolescent awkwardness and ended up quite good looking. (http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/9948191)

Background and Personality: Tornica was the result of two overly horny, alcohol fuelled teenagers. They briefly tried to make a go of it, but decided life for both them and the unborn baby would be better if they just went their separate ways. His dad, Tirin, joined the army and stayed in Tornica's life through child support and the occasional visit. His mother, Alaina, went stayed at home in the Pine Ridge Reservation and tried her best to get on with life despite being a single mother.
Tornica had a relatively happy childhood and was three when his mother married someone else from the reservation, eventually producing four half siblings for him to deal with. He went through the school system there, never excelling but managing not to fail if he put enough work in. Despite this very basic level of academic talent, his mother was quite determined for him to go to college, but thought that he might stand a better chance at this if he finished his education somewhere that wasn't Pine Ridge. So he got shipped out to live with his father, said father's ex-stripper wife, and yet another half sibling with the aim of starting AU High in the fall.

Other Significant Stuff: He lives in a trailer park just outside the main town, owns a very battered truck that is barely roadworthy, and works in the restaurant of a fancy hotel where his step mother works as a receptionist. Loves dancing and is damn good at it, although he isn't sure he wants that knowledge broadcast around his brand new school.

Name: Archie 'Archer' Fletcher
Age: 16
Grade: 11
Physical Description: A little under six foot, wiry build with dark hair and eyes. An almost permanent cheeky grin on his face and a bit of fuzz that has aspirations of being a moustache hovering around his top lip. (http://www.realbollywood.com/up_images/enrique-iglesias17043.jpg)

Background and Personality: He's lived in the local area his entire life and barely ever gone out of state, much less out of the country. His mother and younger brother and sister live in a small, but comfortable, apartment near the centre of town. His dad ran out on the family when he was seven. Archer's over this well enough not to have any lingering anger over the issue in his day to day life, but he certainly has no desire to see or hear from the man. Last he heard he was in jail for theft somewhere in New York.
Archer definitely makes a point in school of trying to be the class clown. He doesn't like failing and so makes sure to do enough work to pass, but other than that will slack off and goof around, generally not thinking or not caring that he might be making it difficult for the other students to learn as well. He has no particular academic ambition, but definitely plans on getting the hell out of this town at some point in the near future. He currently plans on just joining the army and seeing where that takes him, or just up and moving to a completely different city on the other side of the country and seeing what he can make of himself there.

Other Significant Stuff: Archie was his dad's name and so when he disappeared, Archer switched to using the nickname and point blank refused to answer to any other. It's now stuck and he just forgets people might actually try referring to him by his actual name.

Name: Eyron Watts
Age: 17
Grade: 12
Physical Description: Several inches above six feet and very solidly built. He's got pale grey eyes and dark brown hair, worn long but kept back in a pony tail. Not ugly, but nothing particularly special to look at either. Wears a bright red jacket that looks more at home on a circus ringmaster than a high school student. Background and Personality: Eyron's family moved here from California when he was twelve after his dad's business went under. His mother's family live mostly in Maine and were able to help them through this touch financial time while his father re-found his feet and was able to get back into work. With a bit more careful planning and input into the new business from his mother, Eyron's family now live a pretty comfortable life in the suburbs a few miles outside of town.
Eyron is a calm, quiet young man, who does try to be 'one of the guys' in order to fit in, but doesn't really enjoy it as much as he thinks he's supposed to. He kept his head down as best he could during school and does fairly well academically. He wants to go to college, but doesn't have any particular direction to his life. He combats this problem by avoiding it as much as he can and doing more hanging out with guys who's interest he really isn't sure he shares. He's also spending quite a lot of energy avoiding the part of him that's trying to let him know he really isn't interested in all the pretty girls these friends point out and that said male friends are much more interesting in that regard. Because that part of him clearly doesn't know what it's talking about.

Other Significant Stuff: On the football team, more out of habit than any real desire to play the game at this point. He does enjoy it, but not with the level of passion the captain generally prefers in his players.

Name: Christopher Marlowe
Age: 18 (to be turning 19 during the year)
Grade: Senior
Physical Description: Tall and slender with dark eyes and dark hair that he's trying to grow out. Fair skin that's currently the kind of pale you usually only get from being indoors a large chunk of your time. Clearly gets his clothes from similar stores to Mo (combining thrift stores with a healthy dose of internet purchases when he can afford them) but tends to tone down his eccentric style when at school, leaving the top hat and cane for the weekend. Background and Personality: Christopher is one of two children from a fairly solid middle class family dominated by scientists and engineers. Much to his parents confusion, Christopher didn't seem to inherit any of this family aptitude for science and instead excelled at the arts. He was forever making up his own stories and songs, forcing his sister and the family pets to put on plays for anyone he could get to stay long enough to watch. Wanting to provide him with a creative outlet, his parents had him take violin, piano, and singing lessons from a relatively early age. It wasn't enough for Christopher who campaigned tirelessly to be allowed to go to a school for performing arts rather than a regular high school. He ultimately lost this battle and was enrolled in AU High instead, along with his twin sister, but was mollified by having acting classes added to the musical ones.
Aside from having a fairly hectic schedule, his life was fairly normal and ordinary until he was caught what he thought was a cold just before he entered senior year. He couldn't shake it and ended up missing increasing amounts of school until he pretty much wasn't going, his health deteriorating rapidly. Around Christmas time the diagnosis was changed from 'uncommonly persistent flu' to enterovirus induced myocarditis. Unfortunately by this point his heart was on the brink of failing and his doctors didn't think he'd last long without a heart transplant. He was lucky enough to find a match (after his case of very near death bumped him to near the top of the waiting lists) a few months ago and has just been deemed well enough to return to school to finish his senior year and actually graduate.
Personality wise Christopher can be summed up in two words: Drama Queen. He loves being the centre of attention, he lives for performing, and makes is generally friendly and gregarious with everyone he meets, whether he knows them or not.

Significant Other Stuff: His family moved to America from the Czech Republic when Christopher was a child. Although he picked up English fairly quickly he was determined to keep his Czech accent, which he now has difficulty shaking no matter what language he speaks. Although when speaking English at least he has managed to get himself down to just sounding vaguely Eastern European.
He has a twin sister called Francesca who did graduate on time and has just started a medical degree at Cambridge University, England.
Finally, he prefers the nickname 'Kit' (because he gets a real kick out of being called Kit Marlowe) but will grudgingly accept Chris as a shortening instead to avoid confusion with Kit Deshan.

Name: Addison "Addie" Destiny Lee

Age: 17

Grade: Junior

Physical Description: Curly auburn hair, shoulder length. Almond shaped green eyes, a few freckles across her nose, and a gentle smile. 5'6" and 116 lbs. Normally, she's dressed in some sort of artsy sweater and skinny jeans with a pair of combat boots and an ever-present key necklace.

Background: Grew up in a small town in north Georgia, but moved school at the beginning of Sophmore year after her mother got a job transfer. Her father is a successful lawyer and her mother is the VP of a medium sized department store chain. She has younger twin siblings, a boy and girl. The whole family is musically gifted, but especially Addie and her younger brother. Addie takes good care of her family because her parents both work long hours. They both clearly care a lot, their jobs just get in the way of family time sometimes.

Personality: Addie is a really genuine person. She was raised to be very conservative (politically and socially). She is naturally giving and supportive. She is fiercely protective of those she loves, but she would never take it to the point of violence. She is very intelligent and is always ready with a witty comeback. Addie is INCREDIBLY musically gifted. She plays piano, violin, flute, and sings. She also composes and writes lyrics. She is never without a notebook in case inspiration strikes. Her main flaw is that she is INCREDIBLY clumsy. She can't make it through a day without falling at least once.

Other Significant Stuff: In a band called Smashing Mirrors with friend Tony and boyfriend Nick. Addie had the BIGGEST crush on Tony before she started dating Nick. She and Nick aren't "unhappy" per say, but they aren't the happiest couple in the world either.


Name: Anthony "Tony" Jonathan Davis

Age: 17

Grade: Junior

Physical Description: 5'10" with medium-long brown hair, light blue eyes, great teeth. Soccer build.

Background: Has lived in the same house his whole life. His dad died in a house robbery gone wrong, and he doesn't get along with his step dad. He has a close relationship with his mom and with his older brother. His younger sister is closer to her father since she is actually biologically his. His family still has family dinners and tries to stick together as much as possible.

Personality: Relaxed, thoughtful, and very responsible. He loves teasing his friends and family. He is very athletic, playing soccer, basketball, and tennis. He is also very passionate about theatre and music. He plays guitar and sings a little. He is paranoid about home security after what happened to his dad. He is intelligent and confident, but he tends to hide his emotions a lot of the time.

Other Significant Stuff: In the band Smashing Mirrors. Has a major crush on Addie and doesn't get along very well with Nick.


Name: Nick Ellis Sommers

Age: 17

Grade: Senior

Physical Description: Tall and muscular with short, curly blonde hair and bright green eyes. 5'11", football build.

Background: Nick comes from a rich family with workaholic parents. He has an older sister living in California attending college. His parents fight a lot, and Nick feels caught in the middle a lot of the time. Nick has never had to work for anything, so he's used to getting the world on a silver platter.

Personality: Loud, occasionally to the point of obnoxiousness. He's charismatic and naturally funny. He has a reputation as a bit of a player, but he's been dating Addie for about 7 months. He really does care, he isn't good at showing it. He is musically talented, and plays the drums and guitar. He is also very athletic and plays basketball, soccer, football, and baseball. He has a bad habit of drumming on his desk with pencils or whatever he has handy. He is terrified of losing Addie or of his parents divorcing.

Other Significant Stuff: In the band Smashing Mirrors. Dislikes Tony.

I am new to this thread but I've wanted to join for a while and haven't had the chance. May I jump in? I have four characters! (Also, I'm British, so I'm not sure on how the grade system works. If I've made any mistakes then feel free to correct me)

Name: William Tigris
Age: 18
Grade: 12
Physical Description: Fairly tall and slim, his legs provide most of his height. He is therefore rather clumsy. Dark brown hair, a few strands always fall into his eyes. His clothing is expensive but he tends to alter it to better suit his tastes and he is hardly ever seen without a knee-length brown coat.
Background and Personality: Wing is the son of two very important noblemen and has a twin sister, Amber. They did not get as much attention as their older brother and were left to do as they pleased, leading to Wing gaining a bad injury to his left leg that gave him a bad limp. He became shut in and antisocial, preferring the company of books to people. He's got better, but will still only communicate with those he likes. He is very clever and also intensely curious.
Other Significant Stuff: Prefers the nickname "Wing" over William. Hates being called "Will".

Name: Lucie Queene
Age: 17
Grade: 11
Physical Description: 5'1", with long, wavy, auburn hair and blue eyes. There are several scars on her left cheek and neck. She always wears a glove on her left hand to cover the bad wound and burn scars there. The rest of her clothing forms some pattern of yellow and red or black and she wears the triple-diamond insignia of her father's company.
Background and Personality: Lucie's father is a very wealthy businessman, meaning Lucie was given everything she ever wanted as a child. This came with a price, however, she's had to work for the darker side of the business since she was very young. Once, an accident with another employee and an open flame caused the injuries to her left arm and the ensuing fight gave her a scarred face. Though her mind is strands away from breaking, she hides all this behind gloves and a flirty, bitchy, bad-girl persona.
Other Significant Stuff: She was abused in her childhood, leaving physical and emotional scars which she is desperate to hide.

Name: Kitty
Age: 17
Grade: 11
Physical Description: Average height and a little stocky. Has a huge amount of curly blonde hair and very wide green eyes. Most commonly seen wearing pink and pastel blue or yellow, usually with puffy sleeves of some kind.
Background and Personality: Though Kitty has always been well off, her parents pushed her into getting a good education though all she wants to do is open up a restaurant and make people happy with her cooking. She has no siblings and entertained herself as a kid by making up her own fantasies, which she still carries on with. Some people think she is a little crazy but she's just having fun.
Other Significant Stuff: Just the most random person you have ever met.

Name: Cassandra "Cassie" Smith
Age: 18
Grade: 12 (?)
Physical Description: Just below average height, short brown hair cut into a bob with straight fringe. She stands very straight, making her look a little taller than she actually is. She is extremely pale, with hazel eyes. Her clothes are formal and in shades of black and blue- an ironed blouse, smart jumper, knee-length pleated skirt. Like a school uniform but she wears clothes like that pretty much all the time.
Background and Personality: Cassie's family is huge. They own a BnB and also live in the building, one room each, a whole extended family on her mother's side. Her life has gone pretty much the opposite of Kitty's, the constant noise and varying degrees of attention means she gets on far better on her own. She can be stoic at times but once you get to know her she's actually quite a nice girl and very brainy. Also, if she gets really excited or angry her reactions can be fairly over the top.

Oh yeah, that's something I should have added up there. I'm British too and so everything I know about how American High Schools work has been pieced together from TV and from making mistakes in previous threads (how credits and graduation is supposed to work still escapes me). So please forgive any continuing errors on my part, because I'm sure I will make them.

And I'm sure they're all fine but I'll have to check them out properly when I'm at home. Although after meeting Dust I will be giving all your characters very suspicious looks :p

Whoa new nano format, hmm. I totally agree with most of your points DM. I'm SO glad they made a leave of absence thread instead of the newer authors clogging up the threads with their "rp's"

Name: Arianne Armstrong
Age: 16
Grade: Junior (equivalent of UK yr12)
Birthday: 24th January

Physical Description: She’s 5’2”, slim build (with the beginnings of some curves). Disconcertingly pale grey-green eyes. Her hair is dark brown in a messy layered bob and chunks of colour dyed in. She's kind of pretty but not beautiful. Always in jeans and trainers which often look battered and vintage band t-shirts/hoody’s that are kept immaculate, usually with some kind of ethnic-y scarf round her neck. Has two sets of earrings in each lobe. Tries to hide it but from time to time has an obvious limp.

Background and Personality: Arianne was born in San Francisco; her father is American and mother Australian who met backpacking in Mexico (she was an accident). They tried to make a go but split when she was six months old, where she moved to Adelaide with her mother and lived together with her grandparents. Her father was unable to emigrate. He moved to Maine, married her step-mother and had her half sister when she was 11. Arianne’s mother moved them back to the US on a whim the Christmas just before she turned 12 and they now live a few streets away from each other. Her accent is strong Australian.
Quiet, reserved and often withdrawn, but break through her shell and you’ll find someone who has quite a dirty sense of humour. She’s a hard worker and determined. Excels at maths and the sciences. Struggles with any subject that is significantly different between Australia and the US (eg history, geography) and isn’t actually musical at all.

Significant Other Stuff: Missed the entirety of Freshman year (14-15) at her previous school, diagnosed with bone cancer (Osteosarcoma). Her left leg had to be amputated below the knee. She transferred to AU High in the spring of sophmore yr after merciless bullying but has kept herself to herself on the whole. She smokes occasionally, both weed and cigarettes. Arianne used to swim, surf and ride.

Age: 17
Grade: Senior (equivalent of UK yr13)
Birthday: 27th March

Physical Description: 6’1”, deep auburn hair in a shortish style. Bright periwinkle blue eyes. Lean-muscular. Has a hint of Ed Norton to him. Usually in comfortable jeans and t-shirt / v-neck jumper. Or one of his many sports shirts when the occasion arises (nearly all England rugby/cricket/football ones).

Background and Personality: Walt is originally from the UK, the Skipton area of Yorkshire. He has a younger sister, Violet who’s 11. They’re orphans; his father was in the Army and killed in Yugoslavia when Walt was six. Their mother moved them all to the USA shortly afterwards but passed away after a brief illness when Walt was nine. Since then they have grown up in care as they have no other family; Walt has a deep protective streak, mostly of his sister but occasionally it manifests itself towards other people. He's never lost his Yorkshire accent.
Walt is fairly friendly, likes the odd joke. He isn’t short tempered but has suffered the odd lapse in control. Prefers to be outdoors, enjoys sport (his heart lies with Leeds United FC and he plays rugby for a junior team once a week) and history. Can sing rather well.

Significant Other Stuff: Walt has just transferred to AU High for Senior year as he wound up in a bad crowd for a while and wanted to get out. His present goal is to graduate school and get custody of his sister. While on the Imagin High camping trip he outed himself as gay but neither the home kids or his sister are aware.

Can I suggest everyone avoids replying to a post (if possible - I know sometimes it's not, but just try to leastways) and just uses the 'new comment' box at the bottom of the thread for the time being?

As I can't change the view to 'flat list' on this new site to have them show up chronologically, so everything is out of order in terms of replies to posts and it's doing my nut. And chances are I'm going to completely miss something as it's half way up the page rather than at the bottom where it should be to make any kind of sense!

I second the recommendation to just post in the 'post a new comment' box at the bottom rather than replying directly to posts. Mostly because I never go through the thread to check for new posts there, unless I already know there's something to find, so when the thread gets long enough I will just completely miss it.

Fingers crossed for the option to 'flat list' turning up as they improve the site, because this threaded style just drives me batty. I absolutely hate it :p

Okay maybe not. Damn. This is going to drive me crazy. I agree with you DM. It makes me so frustrated I don't want to RP because I can't find what I'm supposed to be looking for. I hope they can fix that.

I'm really sorry, I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with this thread. I'll give it a go but I may not be able to answer much so I may withdraw from the thread. You lot all seem to have everything established and its going to be hard to enter that, I think

Awww outlands, it'd be nice to have fresh blood if you do decide to join but I perfectly understand if you can't keep up either, it's a bit overwhelming when there's this many charas and this much plot.

Physical description: Keturah’s mother is Spanish, and the heritage shows. She has dark skin, black hair, and black eyes. She’s naturally very slight, with one of those metabolisms everyone envys, and the money to squeeze into the latest fashions. Pear shaped she’s curvy at the hips and as a young girl (teenagers are never happy :P) she’d like more in the way of boobs and spends ridiculous amounts of money on wonderbras. Generally considered one of the prettier girls in school.

Personality and Background: Keturah is that girl. The one who has all the money and the looks and gets everything they want. Her father is a rich business man whose usually out of town. Her mother is socialite wining and dining to support her father’s interests and either attending all kinds of parties or fussing over her sick sister. Her parents shower her with gifts in lieu of quality time and she’s used to getting what she wants, but having to fight tooth and nail for some actual attention. As such she’s a total drama queen. Being rich , pretty and fashion conscious means that she’s part of the in crowd and pretty popular at school, but she’s involved in all the backstabbing gossip and social scheming you’d expect.
Tesha is sick and has no energy to admonish her sister, who she loves but often doesn’t really LIKE Jarilon loves both his sister’s dearly and was generally the only one who could be bothered to discipline Kit. Despite, or perhaps because of this she misses him dreadfully now he’s gone off to college, and he’s usually the one she’ll phone for advice. (He will probably make cameos)
Keturah is bright, but lazy and her grades tend to fluctuate dramatically depending on what’s going on at home. She likes Art, Spanish and Politics but she much prefers parties to all of the above. It’s a shame that most of her intelligence seems to be devoted to how to make herself queen of the highschool jungle or gain revenge for someone’s latest put down.
Significant other stuff: Her dad calls her princess or “Kitten” her brother calls her “Kit” or “Kitten”. Her sister calls her “Kit” or “Kitten”. She prefers kit. If you call her kitten she will personally see to your social downfall. She speaks a little Spanish

NAME: TESHA DESHAN
Age: 18
Grade: 12th/Senior
Physical Description: Tesha has her sister’s black hair and black eyes, but her skin is paler because she spends less time outdoors, and she’s often unwell. She frequently wears the glassy eyed look of someone whose not 100% healthy. She’s skinnier than her sister, and she often looks a little bedraggled. She dresses classically stylish, not willing to indulge her sister’s fashionista recommendations but still taking advice from her now and again. Her sister has just about weaned her off black, which looks much too harsh for her, but she still prefers dark colours. She’s most often found with her head in some nonfiction book.

Personality and Background: Like Kit Tesha had everything money could buy growing up, but she didn’t really enjoy it. From a young age it was apparent that she had problems with her kidneys. She was fitted with a CAPD to avoid dialysis, but she keeps having symptoms of kidney failure. She has yet to have a transplant partly because the doctors are holding off as long as possible, and partly because they haven’t found an appropriate donor yet
Given her sickly nature Tesha hasn’t got much energy. She tends to prefer to sit quietly and read books because that’s less tiring.
Recently she’s started dating Archer and come out of her shell more as a result, displayin her wicked sense of humour, keen appreciation of schadenfreude and –keeping her scatching wit a little more in check than usual. Her worsening health has ironically made her more of a social animal as she’s started to realise that she should try out on the things she’s put on hold while waiting to feel better...because that might never actually happen.
Notes: Tesha and Kit have a brother named Jarilon, or Jari, who will figure as an ocassional cameo, usually for the duration of taking someone else to lunch. He's 21 and in his third year of college studying Politics and Law

NAME: KERN BROADSHADOW
Age: 17
Grade: 12/ Senior
Physical Description: Kern is 6’1 and extremely muscular, with shaggy blond hair and grey eyes. He’s tanned, and especially at the beginning of the school year has obvious tan lines from working outside all summer. He has a boyish goofy kind off smile that belongs to a much younger person.

Background and Personality: Kern is competitive, over competitive and He’s channelled that into sports over the years. As a captain he can drive his team mates quite hard because of his competitive streak, but tends to be fair, and not at all a glory hound. He was an active outdoorsy kid that grew up into a sporty teenager with the muscles to prove it . This made him popular with the girls when people were old enough to start noticing such things. He still is, but he’s completely smitten with Izzy Quickwaters. She didn’t exactly grow up on the next street, but they’ve lived in the same town since they were kids. One day she came back from summer holiday with puberty well and truly underway and his jaw hit the floor, he’s never quite picked it back up. Despite being overcompetive Kern is otherwise laid back and friendly. He isn’t too bothered about gossip, or status, possible because as a sports prodigy he’s always been at the top of the high school food chain. He very rarely starts fights, but often breaks them up.
In terms of Academics Kern is neitherbright, or particularly stupid. He tends to get mainly Cs, with a smattering of Bs. He’s good at maths and anything hands on or practical. He struggles with really abstract or interpretative classes and would probably fail English literature if Izzy didn’t help him. He’s not very curious, which holds him back intellectual but means gossip passes over his head, patient and solid he’s a dependable person to have on your side if you befriend him and a cool head in a crisis...mostly.
Kern is torn. Part of him wants a football scholarship and a ticket to college teams and hopefully professional football. The other half of him knows what he doesn’t want, he doesn’t want to spend 9-5 in an office kissing ass. So why should he bother with college when he could happily work for his father’s construction company and take it over when the old man retires?
Significant other stuff : Kern lives with his dad, his mother ran off when he was very young and his dad SAYS she went to join a hippy commune but he’s never really established whether that was the case or not. Despite this, Kern has somehow managed to grow up without any abandonment issues whatsoever. His dad has worked hard in construction his whole life and finally owned the company a few years back. Kern’s worked at the company since he was old enough to get paid for odd jobs. He plays the harmonica.

NAME: ISABELLA "IZZY" QUICKWATERS
Age: 17
Grade: 12th/Senior
Physical Description: Isabella is tall for a girl at 5’8, with an hour glass figure that's on the trim side due to a lot of swimming. Despite the classicaly cited "ideal figure" she's not actually drop dead gorgeous, though Kern likes to think so, but pretty in a rather plain kind of way. She has blue eyes, pale skin and long curly black hair, which she is constantly declaring war on with anti frizz products.

Background and Personality: Isabella was quite a tomboy growing up, but is more feminine now. She’s extremely creative, lively and engaging. Not “popular” but genuinely liked by her friends. She stays away from backbiting, infighting and gossip as much as possible. Often seen in the football stands writing songs whilst Kern plays football, she spends a lot of time with her friends in the choir or on the swimming team. She’s friendly, but won’t be drawn in to situation she wants nothing to do with. Izzy has tremendous amounts of energy, and she needs it because her hobbies...well there are a lot of them. She plays violin for the choir, and sings with it some of them solo parts, is on the swimming team, and tries to write her own songs. She also dabbles in guitar, but she’s much much better at the fiddle/violin. She may well get distracted through a conversation and abandon people in favour or something she’s remembered she has to do, and she’s often passionately engaged in what she’s doing at the time so that some times getting her attention focussed on you can be difficult

Isabella cannot get her head around maths or the sciences, but she tries really hard and manages to drag most of her academics up to the B level. She excels at things that involve sound which is definitely her medium, so she’s good at music and languages, though she tends to supplement the requisite textbooks with tapes to get the hang of them.
She adores water, and the second the summers hits will be found beside it. With her pale skin, this can lead to her returning to school in September with a bad case of sunburn, or stinking of suntan cream. She loves music and wants to work in the industry, but has no desire to be famous.

Other random factoids: I think the familly is irish, and her grandfather was the kind of irish american who did crazy things like send money home to the IRA....her grandads a bit disturbing.

He is originally from Oregon, he moved to Boston a year ago to live with his Aunt and Uncle. He is pretty outgoing and likes to tell dirty jokes, he has a dry sense of humor.

Significant Other Stuff:
In my story he's Death. But in this thread, he's just normal, not that he wasn't before. His sister was raped and murdered when he was eleven; this affects him deeply and he gets prone to fits of breakdowns sometime. He wants to fix everyone when there’s a problem.

Physical Description: Cameron is about 5'9, Has dark blond hair, blue- grey eyes, will mostly likely be seen wearing a beanie or a hooded sweatshirt. He always loves wearing converse and bright colored sneaks. He is considering getting a tongue-ring or gauges. He constantly wears a smirk or a teasing grin besides a straight smile. He may or may not have dimples.
Background and Personality: Cameron traveled around a lot when he was younger. He has lived in Kansas, Illinois (specifically Chicago) and for middle school he lived in South Boston. But since freshmen year he has lived in Imagin Maine. Some reasons people may not have seen him around school is he sticks to himself: except for playing his guitar outside, speaking up in creative writing or any philosophy class, and he is in Debate team.
Personality: Cameron is very outgoing. However, he will only approach you if he thinks your worth his while in terms of conversation and becoming friends. Despite this "arrogant" perceived quality, he is very compassionate and if someone tripped or their books fell, he'd help them up and end up talking to them.
His strengths are being fiercely loyal, compassionate, caring, he doesn't hold grudges and is funny.
His weaknesses are being stubborn, pushing beyond someone's boundaries ( in terms of subjects they're careful to talk about)- he only pushes to help get to the root of the problem and help them heal, but if someone's not ready to be pushed it obviously won't go over well.
Significant Other Stuff: Cameron's Dad is bound to a wheelchair because of wounds he received in the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, his Mother was diagnosed with a mild case of schizophrenia, and was a hoarder. She now lives in an institution. His mother being away really hurts his relationship with his Dad and younger sister (15 but goes to another high school) Leela.
Other Stuff: He likes to sing, and despite having no British accent, he'd sing like this.
Also, he is heteroflexible/ bi-curious. So he is mainly straight, but is wondering whether he's bi or not.

Significant other stuff: Has a tattoo of the Star Wars rebel sign on his arm. He’s in a band called The Crooked Bookshelves and he plays the drums and sings. He is really good at drawing, sculpting, etc. He’ll usually be sitting out somewhere drawing.

Something I should post about my exchange student plans, since it's already taken one person by surprise (and I really should have mentioned it at the time, sorry everyone)

I'm accepting applications for potential exchange student characters, but I'm afraid you don't get to find out if they've got into the 'programme' as it were straight away. I was thinking of waiting about a week before making my final decision on the matter, just to give everyone a chance to see the idea and think up a character if they really want one.

If you want to jump in with the character straight away then I'm afraid no exchange programme for you :p You're still allowed to have the character, it just means they'll have to have already been at the school since the previous year.
