a question about 11:59:59 on november 30th

Most of my writing happens post-midnight (don't you just love homework?), but the words I put in count as part of the words from the day before, even though technically it is the day after. Does happen also on the night of November 30/December 1? Or do I have to compensate for that and submit the 50,000 words BEFORE midnight?

Yes, you'll have to write and submit the words before midnight, as that's when NaNo ends :)

You probably have your time zone set to the wrong time zone. That's why when you update your word count after midnight it's still counting as the same day.

I once learned the hard way you need to update your wordcount before midnight... One year I kept writing in bed (I was sick) until almost midnight but I never even considered getting up and turning my computer on to upload the wordcount, figured I would do it the next day... I never bothered validation and I only had 49.5 K or so, not 50, but it still would have been nice to get my actual wordcount under my name as I did write quite a lot that last night!

So yeah, make sure not to forget to upload your wordcount in time and remember that you need to be near a computer with internet on november 30th or it doesn't officially count :(

When I joined, it set my timezone to Pacific as the default. I left it alone even though I live on the east coast. The hours I keep made it convenient for my midnight to actually be 3am.

I finished before the 30th so it doesn't really matter.

I think it's less important to have your time zone be correct than to keep a consistent time zone throughout... no tweaking the time zone function to give yourself extra hours, but like you... I'm a midnight writer. My graphs are always weird.
