Fan Fiction Tropes

I am writing a fan fiction parody and I need some more ideas for tropes within fan fiction. Specifically in relation to romantic boy band fic (I'm old school like that, lol).

I have the basics, "Oh, you're famous? I've never heard of you." "Oh that's so refreshing!" The Mary Sue main character that is CLEARLY the author describing, in this case, herself. I'm also planning on a completely random and nonsense song lyric chapter.

What else am I missing? I've been out of the fan fiction game for a while. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a fanfic writer, but I notice certain similarities in the genre

- Slash pairings. Especially if they're male.
- The bad boy with a heart of gold.
- Everybody is going to be nursing some secret hurt the Mary Sue will will be able to soothe through her Power of Innocence.
- Your Mary Sue'd probably be the Most Amazing Singer or Songwriter of All Time, but is too shy to use her gifts.

How in appropriate do you want to be?

You could go for riffs on Mary Sues, magical healing cocks, slash pairings, woobie villians, characters who sleep with everyone, characters who angst about everything, bad song lyrics, endless WALLS of internal monologue, villains who are only jealous, villains who are pure evil through and through.

A lot, too, depends on the genre. You'll find different stuff in the "Mary Sue who everyone falls in love with due to her sweetness, purity, and innocence" genre than in the "let me angst about how bad my life is!" fic. Which is in turn different than the yaoi slash tropes or the hard core porn tropes.

They're all bad. Just in different ways.

The story idea sounds awesome, though. I want to read it!

Does sound cool; I don't know about thsoe specifically, but I can generalize just from what I've seen of real bands in the last 20 years.

In the Hogan's Heroes fandom you get Mary Sues from different time periods who have no trouble at all posing as guys and getting into camp. So, perhaps your character can impersonate a boy at will and you can make some jokes about that.

They could probably get TV or movie deals witht he most awful scripts. Sadly there are too many real life cases to name but you could mke something up like ("Name of boy band) Savs x," and have their music somehow a key. And they try to act, too, but they are so comically bad at it...and maybe there's a line in the movie that is just really dumb but it becomes a catchphrase that everyone repeats, or it is so bad it rivals the one from "Attack of the 50-Foot Man":
Woman listens to news report of 50-foot man attacking a town.
Woman: "Harry (I think that's his name) is 50 feet tall. I haven't seen Harry in 3 days. i wonderif that's him!"

Also the band must be overly branded. Their pictures appear on everything. Even really goofy stuff.
