This is the first time that I've done NaNoWriMo with an outline so I have a pretty well defined structure. I had every scene planned out. The problem is my story so far just not that funny. I'm usually a great humor writer. In fact most of the time when I try to write anything else it always pulls toward comedy. But I think that because I'm writing my scenes so tightly planned that it doesn't leave much room for randomness or zany-ness.
So I'm wondering for all of you who do both plot and humor, do you find that plot comes first and then you go back and add more jokes later? Is it something that happens naturally for you at the same time? Do you come up with the jokes first and then work a plot around them?
I'll having the same problem. I have some minor funny things, not as much as I thought I would have. Personally, the only way I can convince myself not to dwell on it is by telling myself that I'll add it in later. Not sure if that answers your question exactly, but that's what I did. =)

I almost never outline a story scene-by-scene. I have a vague idea, and a few important scenes that need to be there. Then, whenever I'm thinking about my novel, I often imagine bits of dialogue between my characters. That dialogue usually ends up being the humor I need. I keep a note book by my bed so I can write down what I think of whenever it occurs to me (usually right before I go to sleep).
Does plot come before humor?

Story comes first for me, and the humor is just peppered throughout, especially if things get too serious.
