(stretching out the new and roomy forum)

Hi all - I am Connie. I'm a new moderator for this forum. I have done NaNo since 2006 and actually won in 2010. I am looking forward to this year and winning again. I like to write mainstream fiction, leaning towards mystery with a bit of romance thrown in. I am unpublished, as being published requires one to actually have something COMPLETED, but I am enjoying the process of learning and growing as a writer. I figure by the time I learn what I need to know, I'll have retired from the State and be able to write full time.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Connie, Hi everybody,

1.I have always written very serious things with humour mixed in here and there (not on purpose, it just happens)

2. However, bravely, last year I wrote a mystery about a serial killer and forced myself to keep OUT any humour (which almost killed me)

3.This time I am going to write a funny story and not let it get , AT ALL, miserable (whch also may almost kill me)

Hello!! Anna here! This is my first NaNoWriMo and I'm extremely excited! I'm as yet unpublished and hoping to change that in 2012.

My NaNoWriMo is dedicated to writing the female protagonist's side of the story in the collaborative effort that a friend and I are writing. My friend-turned-writing partner will be writing the male protagonist's side of the story. Once the month is out, we look forward to combining our two stories into one hilarious novel that talks about dating going horribly, hilariously wrong and how two people find happiness within themselves. We're not really sure what genre our novel should be in, as it's not really romance per se (even if it is about dating), and it's more comedy than mainstream fiction. I guess we'll categorize it as time goes on.

Howdy, all! This is my third year. Last year was my first successful attempt. This year I'm writing the sequel to my first (still unpublished, but just re-edited) novel. The first book was about the Bling of Power and talking squirrels trying to take over the world. This year, my team of paranormal experts must save the world from the return of the Pirate Ninja Wars. Woot!

Howdy, this is my first year, and I get my inspiration in this genre from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and Abbott and Costello. I love good, wholesome entertainment, and I hope to provide smiles and laughs while also telling the story of how things snowball from one typo in a blog, wherein instead of the Vikings sacking Dan Marino, Vikings are said to sack San Marino. There's a romance, a bank robbery investigation, and others who all get drawn into the many misunderstandings which will result.

I have several Print On Demand books out, noted in the self-promotion section (I haven't checked,, you might be able to search for participant posts, too, I don't know.) And, I've sold a few dozen copies. But, this is a major challenge I've given myself with work being really slow right around now.

'Ello, I'm a returning Nano, and my second novel is my first foray into comedy/satire. Last year's novel was pretty heavy stuff, so I've decided to try my hand at writing something that makes me laugh. Prose isn't my main medium - I'm a poet by craft, with a few published pieces - so novelling is always an exercise in the new and unfamiliar to me. I look forward to it, and I'll be using this forum to keep the humor flowing.

Hello! This is my second time doing Nano, and hopefully I'll actually finish by December and not spend the next five or so months bemoaning my fate.
I'm working on the sequal to my first novel, which will be based on the concept of humans and demons competeing in a game show. And the demon mafia might show up. At this point, I have no idea.

Humour, hopefully, will be the name of the game, so I'll be hanging around here as much as I can.

Hi there. I'm a first-time WriMo. I am a writer by trade (in the communications department of a nonprofit) and I've been in an improv troupe for several years, but I have very, very little experience in writing fiction. I'm good with deadlines but bad with plot. Hope to find some help through a group effort.

Hi,

This is my *counts the fingers* eighth year doing Nano... wow, time does fly. I still feel like a newbie. I haven't done a deliberate comedy novel since my first one, though, so this is different from usual. My novel's going to be a parody of super-villains and the classic good versus evil fic (think Flash Gordon) with the main character being a henchman. Yes, I will be using the evil overlord list... a lot. And I'll be a frequent flyer on the Dares thread as well, I have no doubt.

Nice to meet you all, glad to see some Terry Pratchett fans in the house! Personally my favourite characters of his are the Guards and the Witches (original series, not Tiffany Aching, though I do like her too) and, of course, Lord Vetinari, who may have an homage in my novel, just for being so utterly awesome at the evil overlording.

MzHartz

Yo.

This will be my 4th NaNo:

My first was a serious novel in which chocolate is illegal. It's my favorite thing I've written so far, so much that I'm still editing, tweaking, and rewriting.

My second was a horror novel titled Helpless that I ended up self-publishing. It's really more humorous and tongue-in-cheek than scary. (The antagonist is a disembodied voice which a character ends up playing tic tac toe in the sand with.)

Last year's was 70,000 words of crap. And not intentionally funny.

This year will be Brains for the Zombie Soul, a chicken soup book for zombies. I'm pretty sure that puts me firmly in the realm of satire.

Hi, everybody!

This will be my -- ninth? -- NaNoWriMo, and the second Humor one (I've been all over the place in past years).

This year I'm writing the humor equivalent of magical realism -- humorous realism? A middle aged woman is suffering from the empty nest when all the things she takes up to distract her from her child's being away at college turns weirder and odder. I have a vampire, some extraterrestrial cats, and a book club that's a seething mess of resentments and would-be revolutionaries, not to mention local politics, libraries, stalker roommates and power hungry bosses. And a Halloween party.

I'm so looking forward to it!

And a big yay for the other Pratchett fans! My faves are the Watch characters (though Lord Vetinari is utterly awesome), especially Vimes and Carrot.

Hi all! This is my first year of NaNoWriMo. I'm just your average bored community college student, so here I am.

My novel is fairytale murder mystery told Rashomon style, which is -- if you haven't seen the movie -- where all of the characters tell an irreconcilably different version of the same story. It sounds less humorous when I put it down in short, but I swear I'm actually trying to make it funny.

Why hello there! This is my third year doing nanowrimo. I've only won once, but I'm a sucker for punishment and keep coming back.

I've got no idea what I'll be writing about, but that's fine with me for now. I can panic later, after all.

Oh, yay! More Terry Pratchett fans! Always good to see/read more of you!

Hi. This will be my third year doing NaNo. I've won both years I've done it- the first novel was absolutely horrible, but I'm actually looking into publishing the second. This year I'm writing the sequel to that novel. The plot follows me and two of my friends in a ridiculous adventure involving the CIA, a fish, and, this year, aliens, with a special appearance by the characters of Doctor Who- hence the title Humans, Aliens, and BBC Copyrighted Material: This Novel Has Been Banned by an Act of Parliament. This is my first year writing as a college student, and I'm super excited for the insanity I'm sure I'm getting myself into.

Hello, all. This is my second year here. First year I wrote a post-apocalyptic fantasy book. I was only about to write ~30,000 words over the course of the month, though. (the book itself is currently in its second draft. I keep getting hit with writer's block every time I work on it).

This year, however, I am writing a novel about a very cynical young man who suddenly finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy-- a new conspiracy, hoping to make its mark in the secret conspiracy world (all conspiracies are true, and the various secret societies are constantly fighting each other for total WORLD DOMINATION). It's called The World is a Tesseract.

Hi everyone! This will be my third NaNo this year. I'm so glad I found NaNo and I always get impatient for it come around again, because it seems to be the only time I get something close to being done. Not to mention it's awesomely fun.

I wrote a fantasy and science fiction for my first and second years, but this time I decided to do something a little different. While my story will still have some fantasy and science fiction pieces to it, those are only the medium. Its main focus is humor and wittiness.

Hello all! This will be my third NaNoWriMo, and hopefully my third win. First year I wrote a fantasy/pre end of the world book which was very... poorly done. Second year I wrote a science fiction fantasy about vampires! That one I'm actually proud of, but this year I'm planning on doing something different. My story, Reaper, will be a mix of comedy and religion with some darker moments and a few adult themes. Hopefully it's enough to score me the winning word count.

Hello! Second year. Excited and ready to make some magic.
Also, against heavy opposition, I have dedicated myself to the satire/humor/parody category this year. Get to show my fun side... maybe. I do love sarcasm.
As for my novel this year, I thought I would approach some sort of fictional/fantasy realm with a sarcastic protagonist, lazy best friend, and a critical plot I wont give out yet. :D
Good luck everyone! Hope to see lots of magic this November.

Hello! My name is May, and this is my first year doing NaNo. I got a short story published when I was in the sixth grade but haven't really put too much effort into writing as of late. I hope to get my NaNo novel published! :-)

I will be writing a cautionary tale about the sad path our society's headed down, using satire as my weapon of choice. Basically, celebrities have to go into hiding in top-secret, self-contained cities because fans get so out of control. Fans also live together in fan communities, each dedicated to the celebrity or celebrities that it worships - a kind of cult fad? The novel is tentatively titled 'Celebrity Whorship' (not a typo). I'm still not sure what my plot will involve, but it includes stalking, an abduction, a rape, a rape baby, a wedding that the groom doesn't attend because he isn't actually in a relationship with his supposed bride, and a court case. I really don't know beyond that. The plot doesn't really seem to be going in the direction I wanted it to. Hmph. *heads over to Plot Doctoring*

Hi, my name is Gary, and no matter if my novel specifically sets out to be funny or not, I always end up sneaking in at least a little humour, so expect me to be here, whether I like it or not!

Aaand I finally have a plot! I'm going down the 'see what happens' route, but the starting point is a woman called Roberta Nichols, who has a time machine, and keeps bumping into alternate versions of her self. But if this isn't one of my novels that ends up in humour, I dont know what is!
